They've got some real cool dudes working here. I showed up a little late to test drive a Chevy Bolt, not a problem for them. They handed me the keys and told me to take it for a spin, just like that, no drivers-ed treatment where some yutz lectures you about the useless features, no waiting around. This gave me the confidence to really relax and imagine owning the car as I drove. I came back to the dealership with a big dopey grin on my face since the test drive went perfectly. Here's a tip: turn right as you head out the parking lot, there's a little neighborhood on the right with a cul de sac where you can (carefully) test your car's turning radius and maneuverability at suburban speeds. If you keep going straight away from the dealership, there's an industrial park where you can go a teeny bit faster. The straightaways around 1A are just fine for a quick sporty zip. After the test drive, the owners and I had a few minutes to chat about the Bolt, my driving needs and home charging situation, and the general state of the EV market. Suffice it to say, they know their stuff. This is not some casual hobby to them where they just read the brochures of the cars, there is a real enthusiasm and passion there. Theres enough to make me write this before I'm fully committed to buying a car from this establishment. There's enough to make me type this review out in my own car before I leave the place. They are just AMAZING! If all used car dealers were like them, there would be no negative connotations. While shopping for our latest car, we went to several dealers, just to understand the car options. At one dealer, we had to sign multiple forms to test drive a car. The form included that if we weren't back in 20 minutes, they could call the State Police! (Nice way to start a customer relationship). Having worked with Dan at 1-A Auto Sales company and based on our previous experience, we came back to them. VERY low-key, friendly, and happy to discuss anything about the car, including taking the car to our mechanic in Boston (and no signing away one's first born.) We saw the car on a Thurs, came back on a Friday, found an independent station to inspect and based on the results, wanted to buy it. We thought that with the paperwork needed from our insurance company, etc, we'd have to wait a week before driving it home. But NO- Chris (Dan's brother) went through all the paperwork with our insurance agent and we drove home with the car that day! Can't say enough about what a wonderful experience this was. read more

I had a great experience here. After checking out larger dealerships that push you into purchasing, this was an easy, no-hassle experience. They seem to select their cars well - most seem to have a solid maintenance history and are well-priced. I bought a 2006 Prius with well over 200,000 miles on it, from them last year and that car has been perfect! No issues whatsoever! They paid for the inspection and a small windshield repair! I almost never write internet reviews about the experiences I've had at almost any establishment, but I am writing about my experience at this dealership because it was genuinely excellent. I came in looking for a vehicle on a fairly low budget. Chris worked with me to help me find the right options for me, and sat with me to make sure all my questions were answered. He was personable and professional in his demeanor, and calm and clear in answering everything. He was transparent and honest in the information he provided. No employee at the dealership tried to sell me on anything, sway me toward any particular option, or work to bring the cost of the vehicle up in any way. I had never purchased a car before (although I went searching through many dealerships before I thankfully landed on this one), and was finding it difficult to find a dealership that was straightforward and upfront. They worked with me until I found exactly what I was looking for, and I walked out feeling very confident with my purchase. They were an absolute joy to work with. If you are looking for a car, don't bother looking anywhere else. Go straight to them. I knew I wanted to buy another Prius, and this place had good reviews so figured I'd try it out. It was a bit out of my way, but definitely worth it! I worked with Chris, who was fantastic - happy to provide plenty of info and answer all of my questions, but wasn't pushy and really wanted to make sure I was purchasing something I would be happy with. He suggested I have a mechanic check it out (which I know is always a good idea, but isn't usually suggested by someone selling a car) and volunteered to pick me up at the local commuter rail station when I actually bought the car, which I really appreciated. After going in a few times to test drive a few cars, bring one to a mechanic, and then through the process of actually purchasing it (and waiting for the insurance paperwork) I had gotten to talk with Chris a bunch and meet a number of other staff. Everyone is friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, and really respectful of making customers feel good and not feel like they are getting sold. Now that I've had my car a month, no problems have come up. I called the owner ( Dan) to inquire about a hybrid Camry he had for sale and told him I would be commuting after work to check it out. I was prepared to pay cash for the car if it checked out. Drove an hour to get to 1a Auto sales and when I asked for Dan I was told he was "Running errands" I was met with a very nice woman who said she was his sister and she was very pleasant and explained some people were out test driving a car and they only had one dealer plate so she got the key for the Camry and we headed out to the lot. The Car was parked in the rear and was covered in pine needles and looked like it had been in that spot for some time. The tires looked really low on air and when she opened the car it had a very musty odor. I tried to open the trunk but the outside latch was broken. His sister had to run into the office and told me to check out the car. I sat in the car and noticed the low tire pressure light was on and then I felt something crawling on me head. I brushed my head and a large black carpenter ant fell into me lap and when I looked down there was a swarm of black ants crawling up my legs. Jumped out to brush them off and noticed at least 25 more on the driver's floor. At that point I went back in the office to let Dan's sister know what happened but she was in a conversation with another group of buyers who were listing things they found wrong with their car on their test drive. I had wasted enough of my time and at that point I just walked out and called Dan to tell him about my experience. When I finally got him on the phone to let him know that: 1. The car was obviously not even opened for months smelled inside of musty mold and not prep had been done prior to my seeing the car 2. Tires were low and I was expected to test drive a car with soft tires and low tire pressure light on? 3. Car was infested with ants. His response was. " I have 35 cars to sell and cannot prep every car everyone comes to see" So there you have it folks, obviously Dan does not believe in: * Presenting his cars in clean condition even though he charges top dollar for his used cars * When you book an appointment to see a car you are on your own as he most likely will not even be there and car will not be prepped for showing for sale. ( Does not care about your time) * First thing I tried " trunk latch" was broken shows it s a where's Waldo scenario and up to the consumer to find broken items and cars are not gone through and fixed before sale. Bottom Line: Not impressed...Not impressed at all Not shocked by the owners response. Yes I give bad reviews when I feel others should be warned and you deserved the review you got. I am not hard to please but do not waste my time with nonsense. That car had not moved in months that's why you dropped the price. Couldn't find the ants? Yeah ok! Check in the trunk too! You also blocked me from leaving a review on CARFAX so folks that site is a sham. All 5 star reviews Hmmm Yes I did give 5 star auto a great review as he did an outstanding job in having the car detailed when I arrived-In addition- all items were disclosed and fixed before I arrived and I bought the car on the spot. Dan- Life is not all 5 star reviews you have to earn it or take it on the chin when you fall short and you fell short on this one. read more

These guys treated us SO well. Dan's no-pressure sales approach was a welcome change from the typical used car buying experience. He was available to answer questions but gave us space, and was more than accommodating, even staying open two hours later than usual for our convenience. We took the truck to our own mechanic to be checked out, and he kept commenting on what a great deal we had gotten. However, he did notice that the rear brake line was rusted, and thought it would be a good idea to get that taken care of. We brought that up to Dan, and he arranged for an immediate brake line replacement. His mechanic threw in new pads and rotors, too, because he noticed they looked a bit worn. I cannot say enough what a satisfying and helpful customer service experience we had with Dan at 1A auto sales. A true gem! read more

These guys are THIEVES. They are the most corrupt car salesmen (is that redundant?) that I've ever come across. I bought a car from here and ON THE DRIVE BACK HOME, the check engine light came on! I contacted Dan, who had sold me the car, and he hemmed and hawed and eventually agreed to service it. He kept hyping up this auto shop that he was sending it to, until the head of that auto shop let it slip that HE'S DAN'S FATHER!! I asked for a receipt for the repairs, and I got some handwritten shit for a "tire replacement." Somehow I don't think it was the tire that was causing the check engine light to go off. Keeping the thievery all in the family, huh guys? AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. Also, if you do decide to get a car here, do NOT go to the inspection place they recommend-- it's owned by some family friend. Get an independent inspection done! read more

I have scheduled an appointment with Chris to bring the car to a mechanic. He mislead me. In the morning when I called to verify the appointment he told me that he is in Boston so we should meet later. Once I showed up at Walpole as agreed after a 45 minutes drive he told me the car had just been sold. Do not buy a car form this company! Do not waste your time! read more

I bought a used Prius from Dan and Chris at 1A Auto Sales, and had a great experience. Living in and around Boston my whole adult life, I managed to go without a car and just use the T and Zipcar for 10 years - but it was time to get one of my own now that I need to travel more for work. I live an hour away from their lot, but the fair price on the listing and great reviews led me to 1A. Finding an honest and fair dealer was critical for me to hand over so much dough. I was not disappointed - Dan and Chris were very easy to deal with, there was no annoying sales-bro pressure, no hidden surprises, and they were very helpful and flexible at every step. They were fine with my getting a pre-purchase inspection with a mechanic of my choosing - a requirement for me. The car did have a few minor things wrong with it, but they were willing to have them fixed at their expense before I purchased without argument. It was missing a few things (such as floor mats and a second key fob - not insignificant $), wasn't fueled up, hadn't been washed in a while. However, the very fair price, ease and pleasant nature of the transaction, and lack of tacked-on fees more than made up for these things, and I remain very satisfied with my purchase. If you're wondering if you should go and see a car at 1A Auto Sales, I highly recommend you do so. The next time I need a car, I will check their inventory first, and will gladly send my family and friends their way. This is a multigenerational family business of hardworking, courteous, customer-service oriented people who are interested in making a living doing things the right way. I had an excellent experience buying a used low-mileage Prius for a below-market price. I will definitely come here when we have to replace our next car, and I recommend the business without reservation. It's a little tricky to find. The first 1A Auto coming from the west is actually their uncle's garage--we pulled in there and one of his mechanics kindly pointed out exactly where we were supposed to be. It's tucked in a little off the street next to a car wash and behind a pizza place, under a huge billboard a few hundred yards past the one you can actually find. Once we found it, the service orientation was obvious from the beginning. Joy, in the office, printed off the car's service records and Carfax before I even asked for them, explained Massachusetts car-buyers protections and the program Prius has to warranty batteries for ten years in this state, and took care of every aspect of the paperwork efficiently and accurately. She also showed me how to drive a Prius, which I had never done! Then, when I was concerned about a noise I heard during the test drive, Dan immediately took care of it--he asked questions, listened carefully to the answers, and fixed the problem--which he clearly would have done even if I hadn't still been interested in the car. He also took care of seeing that my old car, which was not safe for me to sell privately, could be donated to charity so that it could do a last little bit of good in the world. When I suggested donating it, he said that was actually what he had been planning to do, and that made me feel better both about leaving my car and even better about the values of the business. I also appreciated that they are scrupulous about money--they held the Prius for me without accepting a deposit, and they do not offer loans themselves but recommend some local banks and credit unions that offer good rates. The only thing that surprised me a little in the whole process was that the car had kind of significant cosmetic issues--badly treated scratches on the hood and on other parts of the car, probably consequences of children and snow shovels from this winter--which weren't visible or mentioned in the ad. That was a startling first impression of the car! There were also stains and other cosmetic issues inside the car. However, it was clear to me that those were the reasons the car was priced under market value--and those were the only reasons--so I didn't mind. I was just kind of dismayed because I wasn't expecting it. But Joy got me paint and clearcoat from the dealer, and I will be learning a new hobby this summer...how to fix scratches in car paint. Meanwhile I just tell people it was werewolves. This is not a business that offers all the amenities--the car wasn't super clean, there apparently hadn't been a fresh oil change (the sticker from the previous dealer was still on it), and I was amused to see that I didn't have a full tank of gas! But what you will get at this business is fair, respectful, honest and ethical treatment, a good, safe car at a fair price, flexible and responsive communication, and a commitment to ongoing customer service should there be any problems in the first few months of ownership. When I'm looking for a place to buy a car, that's what I care about. I can get my own oil change. read more

These are men of their word, I was able to trust them and it more than paid off. When it comes to the Prius, these guys are the Kings or experts of that car in Massachusetts. If you take your car in somewhere to get an oil change, tires rotated, fluids filled, anything etc... if the mechanic come backs to you and says you need additional work on your car done, just say no thank you. Call 1A auto, and put them on the phone with the mechanic. Good chance that when you get the phone back, 1A will reassure you that the car is fine. They'll explain to you what to expect over the course of time with your car. These guys ONLY sell cars in a legitimately good condition, and if their is ANYTHING wrong you see, or any conflict with what was said/promised, just bring it up with them. Like I said, these are men of their word, which seems too rare these days. They'll make everything fair or right, and then some. No offense to the mechanics, they know many cars like a jack of all trades, whereas 1A auto is the master of the Prius. Which, by the way, is the most reliable and economical car of the century so far. Whenever I want to work on my Prius, I'll just go to these guys. I came here because of all the great reviews which is why I have to tell you what happened to me. I went here last friday to look at a 2013 prius that had 69,000 miles on it. They were asking 12,995 for it. I had called a few days before to make an appointment for 11am. When I got there the lights were off an no one was there. I called the owner and he said he would send someone right over and it would take 10 minutes for them to get there. 45 minutes later the girl showed up. She showed us the car and when asked about the crack on the front bumper that looked like someone used spackle to put it together, she stated it was an accident with a small animal. I also had seen that the car was not cleaned out at all (they had this car for a month). The back drivers seat felt rough as well. I decided that I would take it to my mechanic to see if it was worth it. The mechanic said the brakes were old, the rutters were rusted, and the radiator was dented. he said that for some reason all the stuff under the hood on the passenger side was farther back than the divers side. He stated that there was so much sand inside the car and in the under carriage and under the hood that he thought the car was most likely submerged under water at some point. He told me to stay far away from this car and he would be surprised if it made it another year or two. when i went back to the dealership and told them what happened they acted surprised stating they didn't know anything about this. They then tried to get me to look at other cars which I declined. The owner claimed that he would auction it off to other dealers for parts because "he doesn't sell this crap to customers". This was, without a doubt, the best used and general car buying experience I have ever had. I had bought 3 cars prior to my most recent transaction with A1 Auto Sales. The two brothers that run this dealership were very intelligent, knowledgable, polite, fair, honest, and efficient. With other dealers I ran into nonsense fees, overpricing of inventory, general manipulation ect. I didn't find any of this here. The price they list is the price you get. They give you INCREDIBLY competitive pricing, as well as try their best to maximize your trade in value (which I did in this transaction). It took two days to complete the transaction (only because I was coming from far away, and I needed to get the money together. It would have been done in one day if I had the money). They were happy to hold my car for a few days if I needed extra time. They also go above and beyond after the sale by helping with registration, as well as offering a very generous and free 30 day warranty (which they are flexible with), and a very flexible return policy. None of this really applies though, because they sold me a great car that has been operating perfectly since I bought it. Thanks for giving me hope in used car sales again! :) read more
