First time trying arepas and I really enjoyed it! We ordered two, and the Caribbean iced coffee. I personally liked the Pelua one more. The Santa Monica was good but felt like a classic breakfast sandwich. Next time I'd skip on the Caribbean iced coffee

Got an ice chai, it was very yummy! Staff was very nice and answered all my questions about the menu. Very esthetic menu with chalk art all over. Some rrally fun flavor options. Will definitely be back again!

We wanted to try something new in the area and haven't had arepas in a long time so we figured WHY NOT! 11 degrees north is the perfect place to go for a variety of arepas. The menu was huge! I was overwhelmed but settled on the Pabellon. It was perfect. Exactly what I was craving and if you're a cheesehead, the amount they put on here is crazy! Both our arepas were made fresh to order and came out nice and hot. The beef was flavorful, not too overcooked and perfectly juicy (careful for the drip out the bottom). We also ordered the Caribbean coffee and the tropical smoothie. Both were good! The coconut milk gave it a wonderful flavor. Definitely different and if you're not a fan of coconut flavors, you will not like this. One caveat for me is I do wish they would serve the arepa on a small plate. I love how they stuff the arepas, but it can get messy and it's hard to catch everything that falls out in the small holder that it comes in. Not to mention I was getting cheese everywhere hahaha Overall, very delicious arepas and I would recommend for those looking to try something new!

11 Degree North great Venezuelan arepas, fabulous coffee and other things to eat and drink.

A delicious Arepas breakfast. Fresh, handmade and Ms. L, the most excellent latte maker.

Came back for round 2 with my fiance and boy was he delighted. He ordered a breakfast arepa. After telling me how much he loves the food between bites he also made sure to tell me how much he looooves me and how good my recommendations are. I had to go for round 2 on the cheesie sandwich. After extensive breakfast sandwich research in the north side of Chicago, I can confidently say this is my favorite one. From my first bite to my last all I can think is "oh my god this is the best thing I've ever eaten". Demolished in 10 bites. And so satisfied. Horchata latte was not my taste, but that doesn't mean it's not yours, so definitely still try it and make your own opinion! 10/10 on my second visit

Pelua Beef, plantains, Gouda cheese and garlic cilantro sauce.

Niccole D.

This is an amazing sandwich shop. We all LOVED each of our sandwiches. Highly recommend Pelua Beef, plantains, Gouda cheese and garlic cilantro sauce. My sons loved Pabellon Beef, plantains, black beans, Caribbean cheese and garlic cilantro sauce. My husband wanted something simple and thought the Porkie breakfast sandwich was great!

All I can say is what a gem this place is! We'd been eating breakfast at a bagel place close to our hotel... every morning. The place is close and the food is good, but when I saw 11 Degrees North just a short walk the other way I knew we had to go. The space is small, but comfortable. Menus cover the walls and are readily available in yelp pictures. They also have a website with all breakfast and drink options listed with all details. We were the first ones in the door after they opened. After being greeted with a smile, we ordered coffee while we reviewed the menu. So many options! We opted for the Havana and Santa Monica arepas. As we were enjoying our coffee, our food was brought from the kitchen and they let us know to come pick it up. These sandwiches were huge and hot and so delicious. The way my Santa Monica was filled provided different tastes from the top to the bottom. Cheese, egg and bacon were the immediate stars. The sausage was large enough to make it nearly to the bottom of the arepa. The chive cream cheese was more towards the bottom, so that flavor kicked in a little later. The last couple of bites were mostly arepa, which was great. The corn flavor was very fresh. With so many options, 11 Degrees North will be our breakfast go to for the next couple of mornings before we head home.

What's in this photo? All that's left from the Cheesie Biscuit my daughter ordered

Mike S.

What's in this photo? All that's left from the Cheesie Biscuit my daughter ordered. It was devoured before I knew what was happening. I'm visiting with her from NC, and 11 Degrees is her favorite breakfast joint. My Eggie Biscuit was equally tasty, the egg had a flavorful saltiness to it. Overall, 6 out of 6 stars for the food, and the young lady at the counter was great too!

Aimee S.

Amazing local find!! The smoothies were delicious as well as the arepas. The space and menu felt so unique. The service was good and while I found the prices a little high, I think it's worth it!

Curiosity draws me to 11 Degrees North. It looks intimate. 11 Degrees North reminds me of a cafe that I would find in a small town or it would make a perfect backdrop for a film. Joseph uses Ritual, a food app to order for me lunch. Seeing that I follow a vegetarian diet, he orders the vegetarian bowl. This comes with sliced avocados, sliced mushrooms, tomatoes, and lettuce on top of a bed or rice. It tastes heavenly. When I go to pick up my order, the wait staff gives it to me quickly. No hassles and done with ease, I like that. Come to 11 Degrees North for lunch or supper. Bring friends, family or even a date.

June K.

Ordered a caribbean coffee. The creme of coconut and caramel is a mixed syrup, so you can't get less of one, and I prefer the real thing. But this place has the best pricing out of a lot of other cafes which is a win for a go to coffee place. Feel like i cant write an adequate review without trying their food, but hey my experience was great and the worker was super patient and helpful.

Anthony D.

After passing this place for years we decided to check it out. Tucked between N Halsted and N Clark is an amazing little Venezuelan Arepa shop with great coffee. We stopped by around 10:30am just as the morning crowd was easing up and ordered the Havana, Island Pork, and La Pelua arepa. Honestly they are all so flavorful and filling you probably just need one per person, but each has a unique flavor. The staff was friendly and didn't rush us as we were browsing the menu. The pork is tender and flavorful while the arepa itself is gluten free but compliments the filling well. We also ordered the Caribbean Iced Coffee and the Dulce de Leche Latte. The Caribbean has coconut and coconut flavoring that you would think would be overpowering but actually isn't and adds a fun twist. The place itself only had about 6 tables and the food comes out in these little metal holders. The only issue we ran into was the table was a little sticky from a prior patron so we covered it with napkins while we ate.

Great service!! Iced chai and breakfast sandwich were sooo tasty!! Great quality for price

Stumbling on to this place was definitely a happy accident. The ingredients for the Bird of Paradise immediately caught my attention. Wow! That's all I can say about it. It was more than I expected... by a longshot. I also ordered one of their apple fritters. Better than any I've had at some of the high-scale donut shops. There are more than a few intriguing items on their menu that I can't wait to try. I'll be back. read more

As a Philadelphian living in Chicago the one thing that I crave more than anything else is a good bagel. 11 degrees north has finally answered my call! I had a dope bagel sandwich this morning. Everything bagel with egg cheese and pork sausage. The sausage was super flavorful and the bagel was super good not soggy or tasteless. The only weird thing about my experience was the coffee I ordered tasted good but I received it lukewarm. Definitely will be going back and hopefully by then the coffee will be a little hotter. read more

The best little secret in Lakeview! Awesome place to enjoy bowls and arepas (sandwiches) created with love and fresh ingredients like avocado, goat cheese, plantains, mushrooms. Wonderful beverages too! Always great for any meal, especially breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack- you can order on line and pick up. Small eat-in deli-like place but perfect place to meet someone for a chat or a delicious "from the islands" meal. Hardworking crew and really great people. It may take a little wait to get your food but it will be worth it. I am almost afraid to spread this secret lest they get too busy. read more

This place was a great find! Saw some reviews on Yelp when I was in town and a few friends needed a quick breakfast so we walked a few blocks to this place. The employees were very helpful and friendly and we all got varying biscuit sandwiches. All were a hit! Loaded with eggs/veggies/meats/cheese - whatever you please! The sandwiches were so big that we definitely needed to use a knife and fork to eat - no complaining here on that part. Coffee drinks were also delicious. Stopped by here to get a bite when I noticed it was open. They had quite a few interesting sandwiches, Buddha bowls, and smoothies on the menu. I ended up ordering the pretzel bun garden Grove sandwich. I love portabella mushrooms and goat cheese, but they made sure to load it with a lot of other veggies with enough tart to cut the rich mushroom and cheese flavors. I had my order to go, and the sandwich came pretty quickly. The space inside is pretty cozy with tall ceilings and the music was at a nice volume - potentially a good place to spend some time. Overall it was a pretty good sandwich and I wouldn't mind coming back to try some of their other stuff. read more

Oh Lawd... I think I just finished eating my newest favorite breakfast sandwich! Food - 5/5 Stars Got the Santa Monica Arepa. It was finger-licking divine. Service - 5/5 Stars Awesome... I called before placing my order with Ritual and asked if I could replace the sausage with avocado. The man on the phone simply replied, "of course," and the rest was history. The avocado portion was a nice size of several thin slices of avocado and was the perfect ripeness too. Not too hard. Not too soft. Just right! Value - 5/4.5 Stars I would say it is not a great deal, but it was definitely a fair deal, no doubt. The price is fair given the quality of the sandwich, supply and demand of this kind of sandwich and the time it takes to make this kind of sandwich. I'd definitely get this sandwich at this price again but I would probably be hesitant to do so if it was much more expensive or was any smaller of a sandwich. But to be clear, hell yeah I will be returning for this deliciousness! No doubt! Thanks for a great breakfast sandwich to start my day 11 Degrees North! See you again soon! :) read more

I ordered the chicken arepa and a tea. The arepa itself was nice and fresh but the cheese on top was not. It was all dried out like it was a bit stale. These arepas are AMAZING!!…read more I got the Queen Arepa and my friend got the Divina Arepa. First off, the arepas are huge! Packed with all the stuff. My queen arepa was soo good. The only thing to note was that it was so thick, I mainly ate most of the chicken avocado salad first, leaving the rest of my arepa with just gouda. I couldn't finish the whole thing because it was all gouda and too much cheese for my preference, but I would absolutely get it again. Also, do not miss out on the fries. It is very well seasoned and the garlic sauce it comes with is so delicious. There is a plenty of seating area, inside and outside. We first tried to sit outside, but due to the rain that came a few days beforehand, there were many mosquitos and bugs, so we went inside. The staff were so nice and conversational! My husband, who typically isn't a fan of tostones, absolutely loved the tostones appetizer! Our party also ordered the empanadas. The shell had this delicious, slightly sweet corn flavor that was just outstanding. Everyone loved their food. I ordered the Pabellón dish and it came out looking like a work of art! The perfectly arranged shredded chicken had a hint of cinnamon (at least to my taste), alongside flavorful black beans, gently sweet plantains, and white rice to balance everything out. It was topped with a chunk of squeaky, fried cheese! Everything came together beautifully. I also thoroughly enjoyed the cocada, a Venezuelan coconut drink. It was sweet, delicious, and kind of delicate tasting. It had tons of coconut, which you had to chew. If you love coconut, you have to try it! Overall, a fantastic experience. Great atmosphere and incredible food. I cannot wait to come back!

I'm happy to report that when I went recently, we still really enjoyed it. It was my boyfriend's first time and he is now a fan and we both recommended it to our friend who lives in the area. You can also make reservations if you'd like although the times I've been, walking in is also fine. Last time we got the Bienmesabe Sampler, which is enough appetizers to share with four people lol. Our ranking of the items in the sampler were the tostones (soooo good), tequeño (my boyfriend loved), mandioca, and then the empanadas. The empanadas are my least favorite - I'd prob see if I could sub it out for something else in the future. I do like that they provide an assortment of empanadas. Then we got a cachapa with chicken - the cachapa itself was so good although next time we would try a different protein. Lots of delicious cheeses to be found - lactose-intolerant people should prepare accordingly.

I tried numerous little items from this place, including the mandocas or corn fritters, pastelitos de queso or cheese pastelitos, and the shredded beef empanada. Everything was really quite good flavor wise, very cheap, and overall just gave a nice street food kind of vibe. The corn fritters were really good. Fried crispy on the outside and a bit oily, but not in a bad way. They were surprisingly quite sweet and fluffy in the inside. Cheap and delicious. The beef empanada came in a large portion, and I really enjoyed it. The beef was well seasoned, flavorful, and had a fantastic texture. It wasn't too bready. I loved the green and slightly creamy sauce they served with the empanada. Great. The cheese pastelitos were probably my least favorite of the few items I tried, I thought they weren't all that flavorful, but definitely weren't bad by any means. All in all, a very nice place to get street food type of items and more substantial items too, like cachapas and arepas. I'd definitely recommend this spot.

There are no bread options so you're stuck with the rye bread for the ruben and although that's traditional- you need stronger ingredients to balance that out. And unfortunately it was a little too dry and there wasn't enough sauce, cheese or fresh sauerkraut to balance it out, especially with the layers of meat. Same with the panini which was somehow worse, i've made better ones in middle school lol. Really for both i can give a 2.5/5 at best.
