Food is great and so is the service. Real good Italian food made by Italians. I especially like the clams casino and chicken Parmesan.

Went here for Mother's Day lunch and it was honestly one of the worst dining experiences we've had in a long time. The service was slow and disorganized, but the food was even more disappointing. $5 for a Coke is absurd to begin with, but the real offense was a $32 "stuffed ricotta pasta in bolognese" that turned out to be what looked like manicotti covered in sauce that tasted straight out of a jar of Ragu. For the prices they charge and the reputation of Ho-Ho-Kus dining, this place was a complete miss. We couldn't wait to leave. read more

More like a 3.7 I read many reviews where people were disappointed with the service but i have no complaints about the service. The food was okay. For apps we had meatballs and fra divolo mussels. Both were decent We split a prosciutto pizza which was just okay. I expected better. Dad has a braised beef pasta. He said it was good. Bro had the chicken parm. He said it was decent. Mom had a Braciole over polenta. She said it was ok It seems like i was the only one who really enjoyed the entree. I went for the Truffle Pappardelle. If i had to rate that dish i would say it was a well deserved 8.3. We were stuffed for dessert but out server praised this cream puff like. I forgot the name of it. It was alright. It's nice inside, it's clean, parking might be a bit challenging, BYOB, service was good but i did go midweek. Will i get the pizza again? Yes maybe takeout and not bianca. Super disappointed in this one. Was told it was authentic Italian, it definitely was not. I had seafood with linguine. The sauce had no seafood taste at all. It tasted like they dumped a can of red sauce on top and called it a day. I originally went for the pizza but was told the oven was broken. Definitely wouldn't recommend or go back. read more

Street parking. Beautiful decor. Reservations needed for weekends because it gets very busy. Its byob. Appetizer we ordered the burrata with prosciutto (tasty) and calamari (okay). I ordered the Truffle Pappardelle, which i loved. Was creamy and delicious. Unfortunately my cousins entrees Pennone Short Rib and Orecchiette were both salty. We ordered two desserts. Service was not good. Had to flag her down every time. But wanted to rush us to leave although we just got our desserts. Which wasn't the waitress fought i could see the manager being pushy. Me and my boyfriend tried 081 cafe last night ( on a Monday) for the first time. Although we were the ONLY people in the entire restaurant, It was still a great experience. We both enjoyed everything that we ordered. It was tasty and cooked well. I personally love that it's a byob too. Their homemade tiramisu was very good and the waitress was very nice and knowledgeable about the menu. Looking forward to going back soon! read more

The restaurant far from packed, only two other parties were there; plenty of empty tables and no real pressure on the floor. The food was good: well-executed, tasty, and generous portions. Kitchen is doing everything right. Service was the letdown. Our male server took the order promptly, then vanished. He checked on us a couple of times the entire meal. Water glasses stayed empty, brought my own bottle of wine, he simply left a couple of glasses and walked away. The overall vibe was oddly dismissive, like we were an inconvenience and should feel grateful just to be served. The food is good enough to maybe bring me back, the indifferent (almost rude) service was hard to excuse. Great cooking, shame about the "you should feel lucky we're serving you" attitude. read more

The restaurant was not busy. Appetizers arrived quickly, but the food took a long time. Once the food came the waiter never came back to check on us. We were never offered dessert and it felt like it was a hassle for them to give us some coffee. The dishes were never bussed of the table. Not a family friendly restaurant. They have a high chair but no kids menu options and seemed annoyed that we were there. The service was poor- never brought another setting of utensils when we sat at a table of 4 but we were 5 and barely came back to the table so I had to steal them off another setting. Seriously, seriously good Margherita pizza. It is Neapolitan-style, so if you go in expecting NY-style pizza you will be disappointed. But if you're a fan of Neapolitan-style, this place does it extremely well. We also really enjoyed the Shrimp Casarola and Vegetable board appetizers. Our view is that the service was very good -- but we didn't go in expecting Four Seasons service at a moderately priced BYOB restaurant. So I think again it is a question of expectations. We tried 081 for the second time tonight. We were customers at his old place in Rochelle Park but he has dropped the ball here. The clams oreganata were ok but when it came to dinner, it went downhill. The Pasta with short rib ragú was a bit too sweet. My husband ordered a pork chop, medium with cherry peppers that came out well done with no cherry peppers. When the waiter, Camilo asked if everything was ok and we explained the issues he didn't even try to resolve the issue. He shifted the blame to the kitchen! We were hopeful that this place would be good but, not sure that we will return. Bergen County needs some good Italian restaurants. Such a shame. read more

Went for dinner with a group of 7 on a Friday night. We had a 6.30pm reservation, so not super early but not exactly peak dinner time either. The food is good - pizza is a good size for one adult or two kids to share. Pasta is tasty. Grilled octopus appetizer was excellent. The layout is a nightmare. I don't remember it being so tight the last time we went, but it was like, "We will jam in a table wherever we can, and leave limited room for people to actually move around the chairs." The service was bad. Not rude bad - when the staff appeared, they were perfectly pleasant. But we went for long waits without seeing our server, and the food came out in a piecemeal fashion, and it's not a tapas restaurant where plates are shared and brought table side as prepared. One pasta dish came out 10 minutes before everything else! And at the end of the meal, it was almost impossible to find our waiter and get the check. It's like they need a massive retraining in how to run a restaurant. read more

I am not sure what happened here. My husband and I have been a few times but last night's experience was totally different. First of all, we noticed they took all of the pizzas off of the Menu. They still let us order one - but that was strange. And only because we knew they had them on the menus before. In fact we specifically went for pizza! We arrived around 7:45 and immediately asked us to order. We added for more time and then ran into some friends. At 8:05 they told us we had to order now because the kitchen was closing. Ho-ho-kus has a nice variety of restaurants so I have been trying everything they have to offer. 081 Cafe is easily located, with street parking that was easy to find. We didn't have a reservation but they seated us quickly. It's got a lot of seating, but it is very loud in there. I am not sure how they could change it, but I found it really hard to have a conversation because it was so distracting. Service was a slow, but they didn't seem to have many servers and everyone just seemed to do a little of everything. We tried the artichoke special, it lacked flavor and the breadcrumbs weren't that toasted. For entrees my friend did the truffle pappardelle and I had the tagliatelle bolognese. They were good, the truffle had a lot of regular mushrooms and then the truffle was chopped finely on the top. I perhaps would've considered coming back for the food, but honestly it's just too loud in there to be able to really enjoy yourself. read more

Friends have been raving about this restaurant for awhile, so we thought it was time to check it out! Our reservation for two was honored at 6 and we sat at a great table in the beautiful main dining room. Tried the octopus appy at the advice of our host, Francesco. AMAZING and huge portion! It melted in our mouths! Then I ordered the Truffle Pappardelle. It was heavenly. Perfect flavor, and not cheap on the delicious fresh truffle embedded within the ribbon pasta and generously shaved upon the top. Looking forward to going back to try the delicious brick oven pizza! Came here with a large party. The place was cozy and well decorated. It took a while to get attention from the servers. When we ordered it felt rushed. The server was rude which really took away from the experience and added a level of stress we didn't need. He had the nerve to correct my friend over the way she pronounced "bruschetta" in which she laughed it off and said "I'm Irish" but the server remained stone faced. We asked him for a bottle opener and for some water in which case he gave an attitude and made us feel stupid for even asking. We then sat another 10 minutes without water or a bottle opened and had to grab the attention of another server to get the water and opener. The food was pretty good. Everyone was pleased with their meal. I would not come back or recommend this place based on the service alone. I don't ask for much when I go out, but when a server has a negative demeanor, seems bothered during interactions, and doesn't perform his basic duties, that really takes away from the experience. Had dinner with my mother, daughter, wife, and niece last night and Saturday round table in the main dining room. There were probably four other tables and the noise level was low. First time back since Sicilian sun closed, and we were pleased with the choices on the menu, and even more with the food when it arrived large quantity on our plates. We had eggplant and sausage pizza as an appetizer, which is delightful, but for us, the crust was little wet, but some people like that and all the flavors were terrific. Orrecheti with garlic and brocolli was great as was Sunday Grandmas sauce with 3 meats, eggplant parm was fine for mom. Accomodated changes. Focaccia bread with oil and spices was very good at start. Biggest problem--The dining room is way too packed with tables.
