Excellent Excellent Excellent !…read more This tiny little hard to find 4 table burger joint is just what I needed after a week in mainland China. I don't eat Chinese food or even any derivative of Chinese food. I ordered a plain hamburger with some French fries... And Circus Beer. It's difficult to get a "perfect" rating on a plain hamburger. I considered that it might have been because I hadn't eaten a real meal in a week, so I went back. The "perfection" rating held up after two visits. The beer was excellent, I like American race car beer, and Circus was served in an almost frozen glass and paired perfectly with the burger and fries. I'm 8000 miles away and I'm still thinking about it. It's not easy to find this place, so stay focused. They are very convenient to the moving elevated sidewalks (escalators) so once you find them, just keep heading up the hill until you find Hollywood.

Unfortunately I came during lunch rush hour so I was given a seat at the counter, right next to the restrooms. The countertop wasn't too comfortable as it was pretty cramped and slanted so I had to be careful to not spill my drinks. I ordered the American cheeseburger while hubby ordered the burger of the month. We also ordered a chili fries to share. My cheeseburger was very juicy and filling. I didn't know it came with 2 patties so I couldn't finish. The fries were also really good. I think they're known for their milkshakes here but unfortunately I didn't order one as I was too full already. Maybe next time!

Okay, okay. I've changed my mind. I tried Peppa's Shroom burger (beef patty, pepper jack cheese,…read moresauteed mushrooms, sausage gravy, truffle mayo, red onion, and lettuce) and though it was extremely messy there are no regrets putting all of it in my mouth. The cook this time was on point, serving me a juicy patty that mixed with all the above flavours. Also, their milkshakes are very good. I loved the strawberry, and they even have one that's just banana, which makes my husband quite happy.

As for burgers, I had the "trailer trash burger" and that was really good. I appreciate the very light brioche bun that they used, though coating it in flour for a burger seems like a pretty bold move. The slaw was nice and crunchy, which added to the mushy texture of their chilli, and the beef patty, while small according to some yelper's standards seem reasonably sized considering the price and where you are geographically (Beef is really expensive here). The fries were crunchy and well seasoned. I did also grab a few fries from my friend's order of chilli fries, and while the chilli tastes nice, you can really taste the lack of Cajun spices. I also feel slightly betrayed that they used velvita instead of cheddar despite calling it cheddar chilli fries. Otherwise, this place is great, and I'd definitely come again, though I might just have a regular Soda the next time around.

The ambience was like a retro diner, with unique CD art on the walls, diner-like stools, and photos of guests enjoying their meal at Burger Joy. I wasn't feeling a burger, so I ordered some truffle fries and wings. I was so impressed at the amount of truffle they sprinkle on the fries and the flavor of the wings. SO hot and fresh which made the meal so delicious. I went with Cajun seasoning and the exterior was lightly crispy and coated with the powder. Fantastic flavor! As a Westerner, I could rely on Burger Joy for that classic American style dining. They have late hours and close at 2:30AM! Glad my friend and I discovered this spot as we have been out so late and nothing but convenient stores were open in Wan Chai.

It was and still is such a hard thing to find in HK, which seems strange given the popularity of burgers and the huge expat population. Now that several big time fast food chains (#1) have opened up, Burger Joys and their pricey burgers may seem somewhat pedestrian. Burger Joys is still fairly unconventional from most of the other burger spots, which includes serving full on booze (even cocktails!) and remaining open for 24 hours a day. The latter is mainly for location's sake, Wanchai and it's red light district vibe tends to spurn a lot of expat visits; many of whom are less likely to look for a HK Cafe over the idea of a burger and fries. The burgers themselves evoke memories of In N Out by presentation alone, sans taste and price. That said, the burgers are good. I'm not sure if the signature double cheeseburger warrants the $139HKD price tag, but it's still tasty. Throw in a shake and some fries (better with truffle!), the meal gets closer to 200HKD+ with the service charge. Thank goodness they accept credit cards. The service has been a mix of great and subpar. Some days when the gentleman from Vancouver is working, the service is professional, fun, and efficient. Some other days / hours, it's a crapshoot of casual and lackluster staff. The mileage definitely varies. I suppose the adage applies: come for the food and nothing else. Wasn't really hungry when I came, but I just HADDDDD to try at least something there cus I trekked all the way to the HK side. Alas, I settled for the Skinny Jeans ($80), which came with a smaller cheeseburger and side salad. The salad was fresh and the dressing was dece. The burger tho... STAR of the show. The bun was delightfully soft, but structured enough to hold up to the juicy patty. The patty itself... HOLY YESSSSS. Their patties are made of dry-aged beef and cooked to medium perfection. Wish I was hungrier so I could have tried one of their more unique creations. That will have to wait until next time I guess!

It had been so long since I had had a good burger and of one that reminded me of In-N-Out in California. Their burgers are really one of the best in Hong Kong and while is on the pricier side, is most definitely worth it. The ingredients making up the burger are especially fresh, from the beef patty, to the lettuce and onions. The cheese sauce on the fries was well seasoned (it wasn't just melted cheese) and the Apple pie iced tea was surprisingly refreshing and definitely suitable for the autumn season. The price of a standard burger on average will set you at least HK$100 alone, add some fries to share and a drink, and you're looking at a HK$200 meal easily. Not quite what some people might have in mind for "fast food". But a treat once in a while is well deserved. I can't wait to try the chili fries next time!

The best way to get here is to walk up the stairs from Queens road. The menu here is simple: burgers, fries, beer, and soft drinks. My rating of five stars is based on the following: 1) Food: 5 stars 2) Environment/vibe: 4.5 stars (would like some more comfortable seating) 3) Value: 4 stars (5 stars with entertainer app) Recommended dishes: Apple pie ice tea, Honbo burger They have a few offerings that aren't beef patty based such as the soft shell crab burger and scallop burger. If you haven't been before I would start with the hamburgers. I have had the short shell crab burger, which is also very good. It's deep fried to a nice crisp and paired with a chicken liver mouse. Really fatty and delicious. The Honbo burger is analogous to a double double you would get at in and out. The normal party is cut in half and you get two patties. There is more contact with the grill which leads to more browning and deliciousness. The Apple pie ice tea here is really great. They add an Apple slice that is browned w/ cinnamon. It really does give the tea an apple pie tint and is also not too sweet. If you are looking for a good burger I would come here. Not a lot of seating so not meant for a big party, but the times I've been seating hasn't been an issue.

You've heard me say often that Hong Kong is expensive. It's very! Welcome to The Butcher's Club in…read moreCentral. I don't know whether they really price it for Eatigo! No. It's probably the HK rents. Either way, it's ridonkulous. For a burger this size - and all of this, no fries or anything, it shouldn't anyway be more than half of what it's priced at. HKD 120. No fries, nothing. That's ~USD 15. At that price, I'd expect some jazz, along with the burger. Kidding. I'd expect some fries at least. But no, it was a plain burger. Less ridonkulous when I got it at 50% off, but thinking of what I got in New York vs this ~USD 8 in Hong Kong - New York is winning. By leaps and bounds. How'd it taste? Great. Exactly how a vegetarian burger should taste? Crispy exteriors, moist (I see you cringe, I cringe on that term somehow) and soft interiors. Well seasoned. Probably one of the better burgers I've eaten in the Kong. But! To call it a chickpea burger is not right. When it's primarily potatoes. No complaints whatsoever on the taste, but do NOT call it a chickpea burger. If I read that, I picture a falafel-esque Middle Eastern burger, especially when it's dressed with greek yoghurt, halloumi and the likes. But no, it's a potato patty and if I didn't see that one piece of chickpea towards the end of my patty, I would've thought they straight out lied or just used a wee bit of chickpea flour to get that perfect crisp exterior. What I thought it was, was potatoes with plenty of garam masala, executed to perfection for a burger patty. I wouldn't dream of putting greek yoghurt and chickpea together with ketchup, but you guys, this was potatoes, and the ketchup tasted just fine with it. It's like when those people claim it's a sugar-free cake but add silly refined sugar substitutes or say it's no butter and then go on to add processed oils that's probably worse than butter or they add a teaspoon of wheat flour to the white flour mix and call it whole wheat! E Y E. R O L L. Thumbs up for the taste and execution! And that burger bun - one of the lighter, airer, fresher tasting ones I've eaten in the Kong! Photos on the blog - thevegetarianvoyager

I've been by this place a few times and it's always packed around lunch and dinner times. So on this random Sunday late afternoon, after eating Thai food already.... I came with a hungry boyfriend wanting a burger. At 5:30pm, it was empty. I loved the décor instantly. I mean what's not to love with a faux bull skull and a Kenny Rogers album titled "what about me?" on the wall? The tables were clean and organised. Paper towel and condiments at an arms lengths reach. Despite messing up my boyfriend's order, and him being so hungry and not realising it until 2/3 into his meal, they were nice enough to make the correct one of him to take home. I thought that was really nice of them considering the lack of customer service here in Hong Kong. And luckily enough my boyfriend was hungry enough to eat two burgers! Originally, I wanted to give them 3 stars because I felt the burgers themselves were a bit subpar to another chain I love. But because they were so awesome with their service, it's now a 4!
