Limehouse is probably the "oldest" new restaurant on Ship Street. With the boom of the whole dining…read moreand drinking scene on Ship Street in the last few years, I'm not surprised that Limehouse is still standing even when it's hidden in the back end of the street. Decorated like a little cottage, the restaurant has two floors with a wooden staircase. Imagine if it had a little fireplace with wood burning in the winter, it would be as if we were having a cosy meal at home. I came here for the first time in 2011 and recently had the opportunity to revisit this lovely little restaurant. I vaguely remember I ordered bangers and mash last time I came here and I liked it. Sadly, this time I went again, this item was no longer on the menu. We had a big group of 10 people and ordered many dishes for sharing. A few of the dishes that are worth mentioning are the tuna and avocado tartare, fish and chips, duck liver and egg and porkchop with stilton and apples. As for dessert, we all really enjoyed the sticky toffee pudding and the apple crumble. The only thing that I did not really like was the shepherd's pie as I thought it was a bit too watery inside. I cannot think of another British restaurant in Hong Kong that I could recommend for classic British dishes at the top of my head. Limehouse certainly has its room for improvement on some of its dishes, but I would still recommend if you feel like having some authentic British fare.

I am not British so I'm not very knowledgeable of all the British dishes out there. But unfortunately, when we got there, fish and chips was not on the menu that day. We ended up with a very yummy lunch nevertheless. for appetiser, I had the pumpkin soup and for entree, I ordered the chickenburger. Omg the chicken burger was out of this world delicious!! The patty was tasty, tender, and juicy. The patty wasn't a whole piece of chicken but rather more like minced chicken. Just so so so good that you have to try it!! I just wish the size of the burger was bigger so I could had more of it!

It's situated in Lok Fu although I think it's probably closer to the Kowloon Tong MTR station. Billy Boozer's gets its charm from the fact that it is very close to what was a British Army barracks (Pre handover). It's easy to imagine hoards of British army personnel getting drunk on their night off, I think a few of them might have stuffed their dirty socks down the back of some of the seats giving this place a unique aroma! That being said this place has got real character and it is mainly visited now by students from a local college. There is dart boards and board games should that interest you. They do offer food although I did not order any, however from what I saw it looked decent. It's a English pub in a very strange location in the depths of Kowloon so if you are in the area and looking for an old style slice of nostalgia, Billy Boozers will deliver and probably leave you with a very big hangover!

And you would be right. The Billy Boozer's main clientele at one point in time had been British army servicemen stationed nearby at Kowloon Tong barracks (just across the road) and you can tell from the distinct design of the bar that this place would have been well suited to receive such guests. Times have changed and the soldiers have left- the replacement clients now are mainly university students from the nearby universities ( BU and CUHK) which means this place is now even more packed than it used to be. You will find that they haven't really done much to spruce up the place and it does give you a bit of a dingy feeling. However, given the fair prices for beer towers (can't really remember how much) and the proximity to universities nearby you will always have students flooding in. As "European" as the bar is you will find dice games are played all round- local and exchange students alike and there is a section devoted to two darts machines out the back which tells you this place is more for fun and games than a quiet chat. I guess if you were looking for a quiet chat you wouldn't be coming here anyways. I hear that food is served here but have never tried it and neither would I recommend any one to. As a dark, dingy and small place to get completely plastered with your mates- you can't beat it!

It has a friendly pub atmosphere, the food is alright, and the WiFi is fast and free. No matter what day it is, you'll always see a crowd on your way home from work. If you're a beer person, you're in luck as they have some nice local ones available. I'm in a wine mood these days so the fact that they had rosé by the glass made me a happy camper already. I think of this place as the "Cheers" of Hong Kong... come here enough and everyone will know your name. And they're always glad you came.

Phoenix offers a wide range of beers on tap in addition to liquor. Personally, I'm a huge fan of their Gweilo IPA, which is a very fruity craft beer that is brewed in Hong Kong. Grab a pint of that during happy hour for extra value. Phoenix also offers some pretty decent food options as you have a drink, like their fried chicken wings (served with garlic). I have yet to try their brunch (weekends only), and I've also heard great things about their burgers. I'll probably check that out soon.

Let's be honest- steak is friggin expensive in Hong Kong, but you get a perfectly cooked, good sized piece of meat for a very reasonable price ($288 for a 14 oz ribeye). A carnivores delight! The atmosphere is classy and the service top-notch. The host even remembered me when I came in. Sides (especially the fries) are a great compliment to the steak. There's even a special on Wednesday nights that includes several different cuts, salad and sides. If you're hankering for some bovine flesh, head to Elgin Street and indulge!

Minus side, the waiters are super disorganized, at least 2-3 waiters came to our table and repeated the same questions. "- would you like to have wine?". "- do you want some dessert" and so on. I can't complain that they are not service minded. But it's really annoying when another waiter come and repeat the same question when its already answered. Its a bit pricey but if you get the asiaexpat supermonday.com card and you can dine 50% off on Mondays.
