I think I have just come to the weirdest bar in the world. Right next to the Yung Shue Wan ferry…read moreterminal on Lamma Island, and opposite the refuse collection point, is 7th Avenue. As I sit here writing this review, the only barman has just left the building, and I don't think he's coming back... So, coming to this completely empty bar for a mid afternoon tipple, the barman dragged his way sleepily out to attempt to serve us, and tried to sell me Seven Mills bourbon as whiskey. Having finally got through to him that I will take a Jameson WHISKEY on the rocks, he has now left to get the rocks from the shop down the road without taking Mrs L's order. Bear in mind that on Lamma Island, the ice shop may be a 15 minute walk away. I'm not sure if, as the Clash so famously put it, "should I stay or should I go"? So let me tell you about the venue while we wait for ice... It is a Greek themed bar, serving a good selection of drinks and some food. The drinks are reasonably priced, and with a location right next to the ferry terminal, it is an ideal place to stop for a post hike or post lunch refresher before heading home HK side. Unfortunately the Greek decor is frankly older the Mount Olympus, and there are some very dodgy looking stains on the seats. Despite all of this, 7th Avenue does getting pumping on the weekend evenings, and to be fair the staff are really nice, and (when not running across the island to get ice) are attentive and fairly efficient. Ahhh, now we have ice, let me tell you about the drinks. They are fine, can't really go wrong opening a bottle and pouring some of the contents into a glass with ice. Really, it's a fine place to stop for one on the way home, and if I lived on Lamma, I may make this a local. Fortunately I live in Soho so I am spoilt for choice. Word of warning, if you do come, bring a lot of mozzie repellant - Lamma is the countryside after all!

I was here on a bar night with some students, and overall the place is alright. I tried the golden…read moremushroom pilsner (brewed in house), but unfortunately, the beer seemed a bit flat. It otherwise had a very pleasant flavour profile. They also made a decent gin and tonic. I tried the Calamari, a Hawaiian and Supreme pizza, jalapeno cheddar fries and potato skins. The Calamari was good, crispy on the outside, and only slightly chewy on the inside, though the tzatziki that came with it was a bit too plain. It could've been more acidic, and had more cucumber, but otherwise it was a nice effort, considering how Greek yogurt is hard to come by in Hong Kong. I the Hawaiian and Supreme pizza are okay. The Supreme pizza had a strange bitterness to the crust, but the Hawaiian pizza was quite good, soft crust, flavourful toppings and stringy cheese. The jalapeno cheddar fries were crunchy, but the use of those individually vacuum packaged "cheddar" that they sell on at grocery stores and try to pass off as "cheese" really let the dish down. I mean sure, it's not a particularly expensive item, but people like their cheddar fries a bit gooey, not slimy. The potato skins were good, with just enough toppings to match the potatoes. They also used proper cheese cheddar cheese (strangely enough), so I was pleasantly surprised by it. I like how this location is much more spacious than their other Wan Chai locations, while still maintaining the same mid-range prices on drinks. Having brewed in-house craft beers is a huge plus for this place, but it seems that the brews just need to be polished a bit more before they can be truly great.
