Located inside of the Aberdeen Marina Club (#1), the Horizon (海天閣) is the club's de facto high end Cantonese option. Situated with gorgeous, panoramic views of the marina, the vibe is premium with a heavy dose of gaudy decor, and while the pretension is high, the food most definitely steals the show.
Reservations are almost always required, but club members are usually getting priority and the layout is conducive for large groups and private dining. Service is good for the most part and the bustling staff is working hard to keep folks in good spirits.
The menu features a number of classic Cantonese items ranging Cantonese BBQ to an extensive selection of seafood. There are standard items, such as rice and noodles, various proteins, and even a premium sections dedicated to things such as bird's nest and soups. The prices are understandably on the higher side, ranging from 138-768HKD per item.
Some standout items include their braised garoupa with bean curd (枝竹火腩豆腐炆星斑頭腩), roasted pork belly (脆皮燒腩肉), bbq pork (蜜汁叉燒皇), baked stuffed sea whelk (葡汁焗釀響螺), marinated duck tongue (美極鴨舌) and beef brisket clear soup (清湯牛筋腩). I admire the fact they attempted to do a shrimp with egg (滑蛋蝦仁) which was silky with good texture and color.
Overall, I was impressed with the execution and would welcome a return visit. The family friendly vibe, along with the beautiful presentation of each dish, makes this a worthy destination for anyone who happens to be at the club.
