The whole tour, about 5-8 big tour groups, gathered here for dinner. We were the first group to arrive and had to wait until everyone made it and took their seats before we were served. Tea was included in our meal but all other drinks cost. Each table held about 8 people. We had so much food and at one point didn't have room to add anymore to the table but they layered it up like a tier. I don't have a favorite dish because I liked them all. It was different from the food back home in the states, more authentic, at least to me. This was a great way to try a little of everything. We had pork, seafood soup, fried beef with spring onions, deep fried fish with sweet corn, sweet and sour pork, fried chicken with chili sauce, stir fried vegetables with garlic, fried rice and fried noodles. I learned that you get 2 sets of chopsticks, one to pick up food from or you use a serving spoon so you don't spread your germs and another set which is your personal one to use to eat.

All in all, I will definitely return if I ever find myself on this side of Victoria Harbor. Service was pretty fast! The ambiance is nice and cozy. So one might ask - what's the difference? -- Quality instead of quantity. Refinedness over size. That means that the tiny bite-size siu mai's are of supreme quality - perfect texture and very rich in flavor. -- Creativity. I'm quite sure that most dim sum lovers would have had a version of stuffed peppers somewhere. But how about a dish (or pan) of freshly pan-fried stuffed peppers and eggplants served - you guessed it - in the pan! Absolute yumminess can somehow indeed be found. (See picture) -- More Creativity. How about some fried bean curb rolls with baked lobster broth? (See picture). Bean curb rolls are a very common dim sum dish. But wait! Deep fry these super yummy rolls and serve them with a bowl of baked lobster broth with a flaky crust? Just in case you don't know how you're supposed to eat these (LOL) - Take a piece of the roll and dip it into the lobster broth, let it soak for a few second, then put it in your mouth and at the same time contemplate how far you are away from dim sum heaven. -- A rare gem perfectly made. Trying to find a quail's egg in the US in not that hard. But trying to find a quail's egg siu mai in the US is close to impossible Especially a really good one. Hong Kong, Wan Chai. November 2023…read more You might wonder why I'm giving 5 stars for glutinous rice w lap cheong and cheung fun w dried shrimp. It is because the cheung fun was pretty darn good - way better than anything I can get back home. And the glutinous rice bowl? The best taste and texture in a glutinous rice I've ever had. This is a three generation business that just churns out good food. Currently run by second generation, Ng Siu-Fung, and with sons and other family members involved in the business, Keung Kee has been in the community for 70 + years and plans to be century old institution that puts out representative Hong Kong snack food. Yes, this is a snack shop, not a bing sutt, not a cha chaan teng, and certainly not a restaurant. They started as a street food cart selling only snacks. Their non-soup or congee dishes are still modestly sized for one person. Now, one of their signature dishes is glutinous rice in a bowl with lap cheong and lap mei, some mushrooms, and a sweet sauce. Thai Golden Phoenix glutinous rice, soaked and double boiled, and prepared slightly differently than straight stir frying. The rice texture comes from a combination of new and old cooked glutinous rice - very moist yet satisfyingly chewy. And the stir fried nuggets of cheung fun with dried shrimp are addicting. Adding soft scrambled egg makes it even harder to share. The Keung Kee name is not unique. There is a dai pai dong and roasted meat shop with the same name. Make sure you go to Lockhart, not elsewhere, and go into the one the new golden lettered sign!

It's probably because they can -- they've been awarded a Michelin recommendation. To be fair, they have quite a few items that are very good. Their cheung fun has got the right consistency, easy to slurp with the sauces that they came with, yet can still be picked up with a wooden stick. The lo mai fan (fried glutinous rice) is fragrant, fried to perfection, with the seasoning distributed evenly all over. I quite like their sweet dessert soups as well! It's not as common to find the sweet yuba dessert soup anymore, and it's a must get for me. If you like anything with beans, the zha zha is nicely done too. I regularly get a large order to go just to share with my family across the harbour; it's that good. The service is... Hong Kong style. As long as you try hard to not get in the way you'll be fine.

Signature Barbecue Combination- Honey-glazed Barbecued Pork and Roasted Pork Belly: The classic dish of Hong Kong. Not quite as good as places like Mott 32 but very good. 4. Deep-fried Shrimp Toast with Salted Egg Yolk: it's a classic dish and done well. A single big shrimp is used instead of minced parts 5. Deep-fried Glutinous Dumplings with Pork, Shrimp and Carrot Juice: The insides were delicious but the dumpling was only warm and not as crisp as it should be. 6. Shanghai-style Pork Soup Dumplings: good but not special. 7. Simmered Seasonal Vegetables and Mushrooms in Fish Broth: also good but not special. To be honest, I'm not sure what makes it stand out so much to get a Michelin star, but I still think it's a great place for a large group meal if you're looking for something with a less casual vibe. This was definitely the most elevated ambiance out of all the dim sum I've had just based on the interior design and how spaced out the tables were. I don't think service was as attentive as a lot of other Michelin-starred restaurants, but I think that's just how dim sum is, and I'm honestly not a huge fan of the overly attentive service at a lot of nice restaurants anyways. This place, while good to eat, definitely isn't as family-friendly as we hoped. Space issues notwithstanding, we will keep this place on our shortlist for the next time we are in HK, though the next visit will have to be with grownups as it's not an ideal choice for families with small children.

Service was excellent and all of the dim sum that we ordered was delicious but the prices are way too expensive. We ended up spending ~$35 USD per person, which is absolutely unheard of for dim sum! It's basically an extra premium for the upscale environment and the views. We arrived shortly after 9am on a Sunday and there was no wait for a table. The entrance is kind of hard to find since it's not on the main street. You have to meander through a small yard first before arriving at the entrance to City Hall.
