The food was good but the portions were very very small. All the meats we had were all a little dry. The bachan kinda sucked and only had kimchi and bean sprouts. My favorite was the steamed egg! The service needs improvement. For what I'm paying I don't think rude service is acceptable. Our bill came out to $680 with 3 meats, 2 bottles of soju, and hite.

If you enjoy Korean food, you must must must visit Sister Korea Cafe!!…read more You know this restaurant is the real deal when the only non-Korean speaking employee here is the manager. Sister Korea Cafe is tucked inside an older, low-key residential area and sticks out like a sore thumb, but in the best way possible. The spot is spacious and trendy, with absolutely delicious food. Rather than serving the typical k-bbq dishes, Sister Korea Cafe offers an extensive list of what I would call "upscale family style Korean dishes and street food". The menu, to be honest, is pretty useless because it's filled with cute, but uninformative doodles of their dishes. I would suggest looking around at what other people have ordered if you're absolutely stumped. Fortunately, I don't think anything is a miss here so you can be a little adventurous when it comes to ordering. My recommendations are definitely the spare-ribs wrapped in cheese (my mouth is watering as I type), the spicy noodle hot pot (rabokki), and the abalone appetizer. Service is top-notch, serving sizes are generous, and prices are reasonable. What is there not to love?! Someone fly me back to Hong Kong, please.

Located just steps away from the A2 entrance to the Yau Ma Tei MTR stop, Tung Tat Food Shop (通達食店)…read morehas been serving street side Hong Kong style food snacks for years. The daytime is usually filled with lines of folks looking to score any of their various street foods, which sometimes includes yours truly. Somehow the exterior has gotten worse over time. While it's as recognizable as any place, there were days where the restaurant looked much nicer. If one looks past beyond the lines, there is indoor seating available. It is every bit as tight as other HK eateries, with folks often sharing tables and not particularly a good fit for large groups. The place is clean and interestingly has a lot of portraits of pets. Most folks are gunning for their curry fishballs and cheung fun rice rolls, which can be directly accessed from their street side window. The fish balls have good texture and that spongy exterior is good with the pseudo spicy curry sauce. I love the rice rolls with a little peanut butter sauce and sesame, which is semi-addicting. There is also their siu mai, which seems on par with many of the food stalls, but is better with a bit of sweet soy and chili oil. Washing it all down with their cold and sweet soya milk (凍豆漿) is highly recommended. Since they're constantly crowded, the service works very quickly. I don't recall them accepting credit cards, but I have always paid in cash or with an octopus card. Compared to their Mong Kok location near the Flower Market, I would still choose this one in YMT.

Every time I walk by, I see people buying from the little take out window. They also have tables inside for normal dining. I've only gotten food to go. I enjoy the food here and I'd recommend giving it a try if you're in the area. SERVICE: At the take out window, you just tell them what you want and they prepare it in front of you and you just pay them right there. I usually pay in cash but I think they also take octopus card. I forgot to ask if they have English menus but at first glance, all visible signs are only in Chinese.

Quite legitimately one of my favourite places to pick up lunch in Hong Kong. Its creative, it's…read morewell priced & most importantly, it's damn tasty! The Korito, for which it's famous, was first created in 2011 & packed as a school lunch for the owners 6 year old daughter. Originally inspired by the Korean dish Bibimbap, these rolls are best described as half sushi/half burrito with a traditional Korean twist. Sounds wild, I know. K-Roll now offer a great range of rolls including chicken, beef, shrimp & tofu, each featuring a selection of sauces to tailor each roll to your taste. I can't rave about this place enough & now with multiple locations throughout Hong Kong, K-Roll makes for a super convenient option for lunch on the run. I'm hungry just thinking about it!

You are dealing with not just Office ladies in high heels but handsome guys in suits. Like for real. Thus, it has been getting pretty common to have take away shops around Central just to cater the needs for those who just want to fill their stomach real quick instead of waiting in lines in scorching heat. K-Roll is one of the examples. It has one in Sheung Wan but I was pretty glad to hear that now they have one more branch in Central at the Central station. Honestly I am such a noob when it comes to Korean food, I always thought that Korean food is either kimchi or Korean Barbeque. That's it. Turns out there's much more. Over here you can order bite-sized kimbap rolls (basically a sushi roll without the raw fish), Korean burritos. They look a lot like Japanese rolls at first glance but the ingredients are mainly cooked like rice, tempura shrimp, fried dumpling skin, veggies, etc. They certainly bring out the Korean flavor with the special Korean sauce as well. To me, this place not only offers delicious food but all the food are very colourful and pleasing to the eyes. I understand that it is also very packed during lunch hour but guess what? At least you are waiting for your orders at a place with air conditioning.

Claypot is only available from 6pm onwards so I suggest getting there early otherwise you will be queuing for a table or sitting out in the hallway like we did in the wet market. Service is quick and friendly and our food was reasonably priced and had some good wok hei. Our claypots were sizzling and you can smell that the food was going to be good. The prices are fairly reasonable. I got the simple ribs and chicken on rice which was delicious. I think it could be cooked a bit longer if you are the type of people who love that charred "faan chiu". So if you're in the area, give it ago. Also save some room for the tasty snack stalls by the MTR station since you're already in the area. And this is definitely not a "suckyone" (my play on words).

Indeed, why would they not? Whether it is the street food found in street markets or proper meals such as beef noodles or taiwanese bento, Taiwan has it all. Having said that I have a secret rule of thumb when it comes to food, that is, I will never eat Taiwanese food in Hong Kong and the same applies to the Hong Kong food in Taiwan. It might be a preconception on mine that the authenticity would very much be lost when the cuisine is introduced to a foreign piece of land; adding to that would be the fact that I have been let down for too many times and have gradually lose faith in it. It wasn't until I have come to this shop coincidentally that I gradually restore hope in Taiwanese cuisines in Hong Kong. I think the best way to tell whether a restaurant is good or not is to try out the basics; beef noodle soup is a staple of Taiwan and it would very well be a good indicator in how well a restaurant prepare their foods. The broth is quintessential in a bowl of noodles and 程班長 does it like no others. Traditional taiwanese beef noodle broth is rich and seasoned with soy sauce, behind the mellow fullness a punch of heat will catch you by surprise, and this is exactly how the broth is like in 程班長; going against the slightly broad and substantial noddles, the two matches perfectly. Whereas for the priced jewel, the meats, which could either be brisket, tendon or tripe or all 3 of them, are all very well braised and are melt in your mouth tender. Last but not least, the pickles that add to the noodle soup play an important role in spicing up the flavors as well as freshen up the mouthful. Thank to this restaurant, may be it is not a bad idea to give a little try on taiwanese restaurants in Hong Kong; a leap of faith is indeed called for nonetheless.
