He use to sit in the back with his computer or reading a book. The food is pretty standard with a slight European twist. It's high up on Peel street, not exactly a high traffic area. Most customers are regulars like I was. He has another place called the Brunch & Dinner Club in CWB. Hope it's still there too. The place is full so I asked if they would let me a cup of coffee outside and of course there was no problem.

Rather it is broadly American, with items from New York cuisine, Tex Mex cuisine, southern American cuisine, and others. I had a cheeseburger and fries and also tried the eggs Benedict. The burger was exceptionally well cooked, juicy and tender, but perhaps a bit underseasoned. The fries were similarly underseasoned but well cooked, just like the burger. The eggs were pretty good but nothing spectacular. Prices are very high and perhaps a little too high considering quality and portion size. I came here for dinner, and with my friend, shared two starters: whitebait and a scotch egg, two mains: barbecue ribs and jalapeño mac and cheese, and two desserts: Banoffee pie and baked Alaska The whitebait was some pretty standard stuff, flavourful, crunchy, slightly fishy. My friend wasn't a huge fan, but I thought it was good. The scotch egg was excellent- it was lightly crusted on the outside, the egg itself still with a nice gooey yolk. The barbecue ribs were nice and tender, they literally came right off the bone, and the addition of nuts as a topic, while interpreted as pretentious by some, added a satisfying crunch to the dish. One point of criticism is that the end pieces were a tad bland- not enough sauce or garnish. The jalapeño mac and cheese stole the show that night. It was very rich and creamy, and the jalapeños added the slight acidity and heat that this dish seems to have had missing this whole time. As it turns out, I don't have to add hot sauce on my mac and cheese, I just need to add a little extra effort and put distribute a moderately spicy pepper into it. The desserts really were something to remember. The banoffee pie was had a crunchy crust, and they seem to have added a bit of peanut butter into the banana/toffee filling, allowing for a thicker consistency. It was sweet, fragrant and rich. The same can be said about the baked Alaska, which had a very rich brownie base, which went really nicely with the meringue and gelato. In the event that I'm celebrating a special occasion, I'd definitely come again. It's a nice restaurant, but it's also quite pricy.
