The Brunch Club was/is one of my favorite places when I lived in HK. I'm glad it's still here. Can't tell what it is. Also don't know if the French guy who opened the place is still around. He use to sit in the back with his computer or reading a book. The food is pretty standard with a slight European twist. It's high up on Peel street, not exactly a high traffic area. Most customers are regulars like I was. He has another place called the Brunch & Dinner Club in CWB. Hope it's still there too. 2.5 stars. Friendly, fast service. Great location. Eggs Benedict with ham wasn't bad. But it wasn't great. It was very average to below average. Eggs were overcooked and not runny. English muffins were bland, very cookie-cutter, and small. Ham was very small. No sauce available other than ketchup. No garnish. Overall just very underwhelming and small. The food wasn't the worst part, though. It was the non-stop, sappy, modern love songs playing over the speakers, with a total of four customers in the otherwise very quiet dining room -- all men. With this being the original Brunch Club, you'd expect them to be the best brunch club of all, but sadly, it has been handed my surpassed by its newer location. While sitting in this location, particularly in the winter is more comfortable, that's the only thing that it has going for it when compared with the newer Causeway Bay location. Let's begin with the food: I've tried the Kiwi lamb burger and clubbers hash at this particular location. The lamb burger was nothing special, it tasted a bit too sweet, though and he use it Greek yogurt in their sauce was a nice touch. The clubbers hash on the other hand, could admittedly be a bit better. It was a bit on the moist side from a much more generous serving of white sauce. This is fine, but the clubbers hash is basically a casserole with deep fried hash browns inside, so what this ultimately created was a somewhat soggy mix of potatoes and cheese. In hindsight, the generous serving of white sauce may have been a bad idea. Service is very friendly, but it is at times challenging to find your server. If you're in a hurry, do tell them and do heed their warnings over prep time. Some items can take a really long time. That being said, their bread and coffee is great! So if you're looking for a tea break or a low-key place to chat or hang our, this place will probably be great for you. read more

Not great, but not the absolute worst. The good: + Busy on a Sunday morning. Walked in before 10 AM and there were a lot of people already eating. + Nice ambiance. Think cute breakfast nooks, a nice patio in the back, and magazines and travel books meant for leisurely browsing. + One of the few eateries open early in the Soho area. + Free wifi, good connection. The not so cool: - Tasteless food. I had the berry smoothie and it was just okay. For some reason it wasn't very sweet, nor tart... honestly, I couldn't taste much. I also had the crepe with vanilla ice cream. The crepe could've easily been improved if they just added a sauce (chocolate, caramel, strawberry.... anything!) - Overcooked food. My husband's waffles were a disaster. He could barely cut through them; they were so tough and dry. On the menu, they also say that waffles and crepes take an extra 15-20 minutes. Clearly not worth the wait. - Operational issues. Despite us both ordering items that take a little longer to cook, our food didn't come out at the same time and the gap between dishes was pretty noticeable. I also saw the same thing happen to the table next to us. Bottom line: If you're looking for a sit-down place that's relaxing and open early enough in the Soho area this could work... but perhaps just stick to coffee & tea. read more

As I sit in Brunch Club writing this review, the place is empty. The woman working on a computer in the corner, who I thought was another customer, turns out to be an employee. Perhaps it's empty because of the rain, or because it's a Sunday night, or perhaps because people have noticed what I have noticed: - Employees in the kitchen licking their fingers as they munch food - Super slow service (I ordered bread and a Bloody Mary and it took over five minutes even though the place is empty?) - substandard preparation (my Bloody Mary contained a lemon wedge. It seemed as if it had been purposefully squeezed to inject all of its bitter, bothersome seeds into my drink. Which promptly either got stuck in my mouth or my straw - neither of which is a place in which they belong.) Will finish my snack but likely won't be back. read more

People love brunches on the weekends... and that's why Brunch Club attracts a crowd on the weekend to line up on the quiet Peel Street just above Soho. I've heard many good comments on Brunch Club for years but I only had the chance to try it for the first time on my birthday this year. My partner and I took a day off on my birthday. We slept in till late and the moment we woke up, both of us coincidentally said, "let's go to Brunch Club!" Here we go, trying it for the first time on a quiet Wednesday morning without the need to wait in line! We've been back a couple of times since then. My go-to brunch is the eggs benedict. Their poached eggs are made perfectly every time with the hollandaise sause... I must say this is one of the best eggs benedict I've tried in Hong Kong. You can also choose your meat, ham, bacon or salmon, etc... Besides having brunch, this place is also great for relaxing, sipping a cup of coffee and just reading a magazine. They have plenty of free magazines on the wall available for you to pick up. I recommend this place for you to come during weekdays -- just for an escape to somewhere relaxing. Came here on a Friday around lunch time. It was not crowded when we came in but it did get busier as our brunch proceeded. The minute you walk in the place, you don't feel like you're in Hong Kong anymore. The walls are decked with lots of novels (which I'm unsure you can take or if it's for a book swap cause they all look so new) as well as many fancy periodicals like Monocle. You immediately kind of can make the impression this is a fancy hipster place that the restaurant is trying to give the impression of. I have to say I was quite impressed with service. I am usually a heavy drinker of water during meals and the wait staff was able to keep up with the rate of refilling to my drinking! - which is sometimes quite rare and a frustrating experience. I had ordered the fritata which take around 20 minutes, the staff did take the care of asking if we wanted both me and my friends entrees arriving together. Not all places HK do this, so it was a nice touch. Also despite the long(ish) wait for food, and since it was catch up brunch, I did not especially feel rushed at all or pressured to order more than what I did. (I stuck with water afterall) - which is really nice in HK where most places are a bit snobby about that kind of thing. Now to the food. I was not impressed with my all eggwhite Fritata. It was a bit tasteless... lacking in *something* despite it having mushrooms in it.... The homemade special tomato sauce it came with was cold and meh. And the toast (wel, not that I'm a big fan of toasts) was meh as well. I had a bite of my friend's egg benedict with smoked salmon, and it was clearly the winner at the table. Tip: order this and also knock off 20 minutes off your wait time for food! I would definitely come back... and maybe with my laptop and book. What a cute restaurant! It's located on a very steep hill, and had no door when i arrived. The restaurant opens right up to the street, so it was like you were part of the people walking outside instead of observing them through glass. Everything in the restaurant is English and the servers also speak English. Even all the customers were foreign. It was like i was not even in Hong Kong! It's like a cute Parisian coffee shop (i'd imagine, i've never been to Paris) tucked where you'd least expect it. Now, the food was very mediocre- hence the 3 star rating. You have regular brunch food but the taste was very average, nothing amazing. I'd come here to catch up with a friend for the ambiance, not in particular for the food. read more

I arrived for lunch at around 12:15 on a weekday and walked in to this cute little restaurant. The decor was great and it was had a very laid back atmosphere. I was meeting up with a group of friends, and was informed by the waitress that we had to sit outside because we hadn't made a reservation. The patio wasn't too horrible on this hot day because they had a very large fan blowing towards us. I was in a bit of a hurry so I decided to order from their set lunch menu. The smoked duck salad was amazing. It was tender, juicy, and an explosion of flavor. I have been here in Hong Kong for a while, but this was my first experience with smoked duck and I will be looking for it again in the future. I was really looking forward to getting my New Zealand steak after having such a great experience with the salad. It came out and looked lovely, but it was undercooked! I took the first bite, and it was pretty rare. Then it dawned on me that I was never asked how I wanted my steak cooked. Never order a steak if your not asked how you want it cooked! Needless to say, it was almost purple on the inside and tasted like it had been thawed. Management was understanding and offered to make me another steak. Since I was in a rush, they just compensated my meal and apologized. The potatoes were a pleasant surprise. They were two large slices scalloped and smothered in a tasty cheese sauce. This place is so cute and cozy! My husband and I were on vacation in HK and wanted to get brunch after climbing up to Victoria's Peak. It was a bit hard to find but it was worth it. A nice brunch chain that is busy on weekends but offers a cozy atmosphere and satisfying fare. This location in SOHO is located on a nice quiet stretch of Peel street. If you do not like walking uphill I recommend taking the escalator to Caine road then walking West (turn right off escalator) to Peel street and then downhill. I stopped in for breakfast on a Tuesday morning before work at 8:30am and only 2 other customers where present, giving it a nice relaxing atmosphere. I ordered the omelette with bacon and a coffee. The coffee was smooth and served at the perfect temperature. The egg of my omelette was fluffy and was filled perfectly. The dish came with a light salad and a large slice of wheat toast that rounded out the meal. I highly recommend giving this place a try during the week if you're looking for a quiet breakfast that is less of a greasy-spoon than they other breakfast joint on Old Bailey... read more

I've come here on two separate occasions at the suggestions of friends who raved about the eggs benedicts here. I've tried both the salmon benedict and the sausage benedict. In my opinion, the latter is much more flavorful and satisfying than the former. But overall, I find the eggs benedicts here to be just okay, nothing mind-blowing. When it comes to western brunches, I think I still prefer eating the larger portions in America. Also, make sure you come early on the weekends. I've had to sit outside in the back alley under the burning heat both times because I came during prime time. My wife and I decided to try a new brunch place, and we had walked by the Brunch Club one day, so we thought, why not? The restaurant looked inviting, and it was pretty packed (expected for a Sunday morning). Because it was so crowded, we were seated n a back corner of the patio that felt more like a converted storage area. We ordered the Eggs Benedict that the Brunch Club is known for. My wife said "I'm not wowed". I got the Croque Monsieur. It was very heavy and bready. The hot chocolate and coffee were good. The service was fair. We came here for a western style brunch during our visit since it was highly recommended. This little cafe had a beautiful courtyard and we were seated almost immediately. We ordered coffee (I had a cappuccino) and these were good, but nothing special. I ordered the Monte Cristo with a fried egg on top. This was delicious, but took more than 20 minutes to arrive. Also, I think I would have preferred this on brioche bread instead of the raisin one, which made it a little too sweet. I found this place on an article that recommended restaurants in SOHO. I've had way better Egg Benedicts from California and was quite disappointed by the blandness of the dish and the side-dishes on the same plate with my order. I probably won't recommend this place to anyone who loves good brunch. Find another place. read more
