"When in Rome do as the Romans do!"
When you visit Hong Kong, part of the fun is to experience the local culture and part of that is the food culture, especially the "Street Food" culture!
Back in the days when I was still living in HK, these kind of food/snacks are all mobile vendors pushing there own handmade carts near busy intersections especially around cinemas, schools, shopping areas where there are a high level of pedestrian traffic.
Now, because of changing by-laws and licensing requirements, most of them have moved into shops. The way they try to keep the feel of street vendor, is to have the food placed at the store front with no seating.
Basic items include : Steamed Rice Rolls, Fish Balls, Fried Chilli Peppers with Fish Puree, Fried Tofu, Faux Shark's Fin Soup and many many more!
Prices are reasonable, but if you are going to make a meal out of it, it will add up pretty fast, as each order is small, and is intended to be snack items.
So if you ever come to Hong Kong, do try these type of food stands, it will bring you to a different world of culinary experience!
Oh, if you don't feel comfortable standing around the store to eat your food, you can walk to the nearby park, find a table, relax and enjoy!
p.s. Wan Chai District is a great area to explore with many different types of electronic shops, phone accessories, wet markets, bakeries, noodle shops, cafes and many many more. Conveniently located and accessible by underground, trams, and buses! read more
