Recently went on a trip to Malaysia and had a connecting flight on Cathay Pacific from Hong Kong to KL. My United flight was late to leave LAX, as a result, the connecting time had shortened to the point where I needed to run to catch my flight. As my Cathay flight was on the same itinerary, the airline was aware of my delayed arrival. A Cathay rep had a sign with my name on it at the arrival gate and directed me to head quickly to the gate. The journey to the gate was pretty hectic. The KL gate was very far way and I had to go through the transfer security process. It was an arduous trip and the gate was very hard to find. Fortunately, I was able to catch my flight. Though I did notice that the airline had sent me a boarding pass for the next flight to KL in case I missed it. The flight to KL was on a new Airbus 321neo plane and I was able to secure an exit-row seat when checking in, which provided extra legroom. I really enjoyed my flight as the IFE system had a lot of entertainment options, particularly Chinese movies. As a result, I watched a couple of old Cantonese films with subtitles. The in-flight meal was a chow mein with chicken rendang, which was tasty and fitting for my flight to Malaysia. While the flight was great, I think what stood out was the level of customer care that the airline had about ensuring my flight journey was good and that I would be taken care of in any case after the delayed arrival ordeal. read more

It was time, after exactly one year, to take my favorite return flight on Cathay Pacific. A roughly 13-hour direct opus from Hong Kong to my home, in the City Of Angels. Cathay boasts that they have Signature meals, that can be ordered 10 days before the flight. These are only available departing from HKG. Last year, on this same flight, I had ordered the crab entree. It was a disaster and I expressed so, when I was repeatedly asked by the Head Hostess in the business class cabin. She was upset too and said she would and did report it. So this time, when I looked for signature selections, I found the same identical limited small menu. Really? No changes? Of course I chose something different. The Shrimp Pork Wonton noodle soup, seemed the only better choice. When it came to my seat, lukewarm, I was stunned by the texture of the noodles. Clearly something for infants. So soft they would dissolve. Sorry, but there are better instant Wontons in the instant soup aisle at Costco. Furthermore, the exact item was on the regular menu and on the all flight dining menu. Really? So why order in advance? Breakfast before landing was really good. Like it has always been, even a year ago. Let me not forget the service in the cabin. It was high class. But in this department of food, Cathay has a long way to go. "Book the Cook", on a competitive airline, has numerous more choices, higher quality in food, texture, taste and flavor. On that competitive airline, I had lobster, in business, coming home. A worthy point to note. All the top 5 airlines in the world have excellent seating in the upper class cabins. Service is now also high class. Equal, you can say. So what is it that separates the airlines? It is the FOOD and Beverages. Upper class customers, who pay big money on ultra long haul flights come on board, to also fine dine. Very simple. So in summary, Cathay needs to do some serious work in this department. They should take these constructive comments seriously. That is, only if they desire to fully satisfy their customers and move up the SkyTrax rungs, to become hopefully, the best international airline in the world. read more

Best airline in the world in my opinion. Always great experiences. When I fly with Cathay Pacific it's always an easy comfortable experience beginning with buying tickets directly from them... until reaching my destination. Recently their customer service saved me from an enormous amount of headaches. I had an emergency situation and had to postpone my flight last minute. I could not believe how sincere, caring, and understanding Cathay Pacific's Customer Service Team were. I was actually emotionally grateful & astounded how easy they made it for me to change flight dates... and what they did for me beyond changing dates was not at all expected. Cathay Pacific was relatively unknown to me until recently when I had to book travel from the East Coast of the US to Taiwan and Japan. I searched for OneWorld airlines and this was one of my picks. The prices of economy were great and the little bit I paid more for premium economy was great, especially considering premium economy on Cathay is pretty much the exact same leg room and seating as first class on AA domestically. Service was great! Flights were ontime and arrived early! My premium service level (due to Emerald OneWorld status) was excellent. I'll fly them again! read more

I was quite disappointed and frustrated with CX from my recent travel to Taiwan from HK, thanks to CX, they have miraculously turned my 1hr 45min flight to a 5 hrs flight, delayed again and again. After 2 hrs wait, finally we have reached the runway... The pilot floored the accelerator, we were about to take off, and suddently, the pilot hard brake the plane and took us back to the parking bay. Pilot's excuses were that we need to check engine for fuilds levels... And then I saw the gasoline truck came forward, it's obvious that they must have forgotten to fill up the tank. CX don't give a shit for our safety, we almost went airborn without enough fuels in the tank. The outcome could have been catastrophic. This is a piece of shit airline. After they have filled up the tanks, it took them another hour or so before we were finally on our way to Taiwan. read more

My first and might be last flying with Cathay. Small leg room! I am only 5'4 but it very difficult to move. The plane from HK to LAX have a very small and limited overhead cabin and its a fight with other passenger to squeeze in the luggage, 1 flight attendant even shout "you cannot put your luggage like that!", oh well why not help instead of shouting? Or try to filter the luggages of your passenger and ask to check in the bigger luggages where you know it's a full flight?! You put your passengers in an ugly situation. Just get out of a 12-hr flight, and got a backache throughout the flight, not comfortable seat. read more

I never seen a lounge like a cheap all you can eat buffet. No one tell you where to get drinks or foods. It feels like a high school cafeteria. My business class ticket is costed almost half of a new car and this is absolutely not acceptable. I asked for a glass of Pinot and the bartender spilled the wine all over the glass. I just want to share one of my first flight experience with Cathay Pacific. I have also write to them directly with my experience and didn't get a respond. This was from 2018. I was flying to Singapore from New York connecting at Hong Kong. The flight from HK to Singapore was on a brand new airbus a350. I was excited to fly on a brand new plane. I've selected bulk head seat, the row right after the premium economy. I was traveling with my dad and my girlfriend. There are some minor delay, and that wasn't the issue. After I step into the place and notice it's very warm. The captain made an announcement stating the plane is literally brand new and have some issue connecting to the power on the ground. He mention after the boarding it's completed and the door is close, he can turn on the engine and have the air running. The heat wasn't the issue. The issue arise when I get to my seat, a lot of pax around me we're already seated in my section. Most of the overhead space is already occupied, and I was struggling to find room to store our book bags and small carry on luggages. I usually put my book bag under the seat because it's bulk head seat, so I don't have that option. I notice a lot of people put their shopping bag from duty free and their purse on the overhead compartment. I mean seriously, just freaking put it under your seat first, after boarding it's done if there still room then put it back up. These people have no considerations at all. As I try to make room to put our luggage for my dad and girlfriend. One of the FA is speaking loudly to us telling us to stop blocking the aisle for pax to pass. I kindly ask if he can assist us finding some space for our luggage, he totally ignore us. As we continue to struggle, I notice premium economy is very light, and ask the same FA if we can use their overhead compartment to store our luggages. He just responded quickly "No". Is this Cathay Pacific customer service standard? I'm not sure what their airline policies are. Most airline that I had travel with before, their FA often offer pax to store their luggage at the business class because there always extra room there. At this point it's getting hot in the plane and I'm getting annoy, so I just step aside first let's all the pax go. Then finally I find some space toward the back to put away our luggages. My first experience flying on a350 wasn't great at all. My flight from JFK to HKG was excellent. This review was mainly for the HKG - SIN. Also, this has nothing to do with the Cathay Pacific. After takeoff, When I try to recline my seat. The imbecile sitting behind me push my chair to prevent me from reclining. To that individual, if you don't like people in front of you recline their seat, go buy yourself a business or first class. I'm paying for my seat and all the features that comes with it. I was very disappointed with Cathay Pacific. I've alway heard great things about them, but not in my experience. I will continue to fly with Cathay Pacific in the future. I'm satisfied overall, just that one flight. read more

Very impressed with this airline. We flew 15 hours straight from San Jose to Hong Kong. The service and food were outstanding. They make sure you're well fed. We got lunch and dinner, one snack of peanuts and plenty of drinks to keep us hydrated. Even alcoholic beverages which I stayed away from. The entertainment was great. Many movies to choose from and a lot are still in the theaters. It was a good flight except for the high pitch screaming babies who kept you awake 90 percent of the time. That part was awful but nothing you can do. read more

This is by far the best airline food I have ever experienced although it is business class. It rivals many fine restaurants and don't know how they manage this! My choice of entrée at dinner (one of three) was Cod with a black pepper sauce, kailan (broccolini), carrots and egg fried rice. Wow. read more

I was warmly welcomed by Cathay Pacific stewards and stewardesses in business class. They were exemplary in service and yet they made it seem effortless(such a different atmosphere from ANA Airlines-see my review). I already reviewed Cathay Pacific flying from JFK to HK and to Malaysia. Now I'm reviewing my experience going the other direction. It's a great airlines but food wise Singapore airlines hit it! I requested special meals just to see how they were and saw the regular menu that they handed out to us too but we saw the meals and we were so glad that we requested the meals. However, it's more than just the food when you fly so let's talk about other things they have to offer. When you fly in to NY JFK you have to go thru Vancouver, unlike flying from JFK that goes straight to HK without stopping at VanNot many people know that they need to have a transit pass in Vancouver because they need to wait at the airport there for 2-3 hours. This is not a fun part because you would have to break from your sleep and disembark the plane. After the security checkpoint process, all passenger were headed back to the plane. This only happens when you fly in to NY. One thing that I would suggest they do is to call the row number. They take care of the First class and club members and then let the rest get in as they please. Quite strange because the system breaks half way. Anyway, the flight crew kept the flight clean the entire flight. The landing was smooth. We booked the extra leg room so our personal entertainment was perfect right by our chair. Great choice of entertainment! This is one of the best airlines to take when you fly international. read more

Excellent food. Excellent service especially by flight attendant, Albert Lo. He always maintained a very professional and friendly demeanor, had a smile on his face and was very patient to help everyone. While he was pushing the drink and food cart, he would always accommodate a large group of middle school kids by moving the food cart back and forth each time they had to go to the restroom without a frown or an angry attitude. What a show of patience! By hiring people like Mr. Lo, Cathay Airlines will be an airline I choose to fly in the future since their customer service is top notch. read more

This airline is poorly managed and organized. First, they rope off a large section of seats at the gate for first and business class (more seats roped off than available on the actual plane) and leave all economy guests to a small portion of first come, first served seats. We arrived early so I didn't have to stand but we ended up giving our seats to an elderly couple who desperately needed to sit down after being pushed from the mostly empty seats reserved for business and first class. On the plane, one of our tvs wouldn't play anything but trailers so we decided to give up and turn it off only to have it turn back on repeatedly on its own. Lastly, my arm rest fell off mid-flight and the food was terrible. The second star is only bc ONE of their attendants was friendly. Never again! read more

Having flown AA, UA, and DL to HKG as well, I have to say that CX offers the best service, hands down. The food is one or two notches above the rest, and the service level is just so much higher. Not to throw out a blanket insult to every staff member of all the other airlines, since I HAVE come across great ones, it seems that CX asks EVERYONE before they hire them whether they have misanthropic inclinations. I don't know for a fact (since it depends on which row you have), but it seems that on average, they offer more legroom too! Entertainment options are good, but personalized screens and choice of movies is pretty much standard these days even in coach. Like everyone else though, points are docked for the state of the bathrooms after even half-way through a 16-hour flight - SURELY policies and procedures can ensure a cleaner, dryer place to 'rest', with no paper bulging from the trash receptacle! As good as the food was, one COULD go hungry on such a long flight. The first meal is served right after take-off, and the second, half way through the flight. That leaves a gap of 7-8 hours with nothing other than snacks that are in the galley. Most of the time, these are gone in very little time. While they do have available insta-noodles when you ask, it's not really adequate. Unless you are sleeping (and who can really sleep in coach?), you'd be feeling a mite peckish well before you land. Perhaps they need to rethink the timing of the meals, or add another one? read more

Maybe I have low standards bc American airlines are so bad, but Cathay always leaves me happy. Perhaps it's sexist to note that Cathay staff are attractive, but they are. Even flying economy, food is excellent. The crew dim the lights and leave food and beverages out overnight on transpacific flights. But mostly I love the service. A woman once personally escorted me all the way across the airport in Hong King to ensure I didn't miss my connecting (Cathay) flight bc my earlier (not Cathay) flight had been delayed. And another time, @ TPE, I had an immigration issue, delaying me significantly, and Cathay staff gave me a care bag with food. read more

This will be the last time I used this airline. When I originally booked my flight it showed that I only had and 8hr layover in Hong Kong. When I checked in Manila to come back to the U.S. the person that helped me was confused that I had a 19hr layover and I ask why that was she had no answer for me. When I arrived in Hong Kong a different Cathay employee informed that the reason my layover is so long is because the sooner flight to SFO was full there for I had to wait an extra 11 hrs to go home. With this being said no accommodations was offered not even an I'm sorry for the inconvenience. Ive been stuck in Hong Kong airport for 13hrs and now I just got an email saying that now my flight is being delayed for another 2 hrs, and I went and ask for the reason but Cathay employee had to no idea or any information on the matter. So all in all I'm gonna be stuck in Hong Kong airport for a total of 21 hrs and not a single accommodation was offered to me or the person flying with me. Sad to say I will no longer fly with Cathay pacific ever. From now on I will choose a different airline. I don't recommended this airline to anyone. There are plenty airlines to choose from leave this one alone. read more
