Airport Express is the quickest way into town! Boarding at HKG is easy as you merely have to jump on the train! After making a couple of stops, the last top is at Hong Kong Central station! Trains are in tip-top shape. There is plenty of room for luggage on the train as well! Seats face either direction so it's best to make sure your seat faces the direction of travel! Payment for the ride is done at Hong Kong station (for those traveling into town). Check out for local specials such as "group" tickets for those traveling in parties of 2 or more! Taxis are readily available on the same level and the street level is one level up for private vehicle pick up!

This is easily the best way to get to and from the airport. It is both faster and cheaper than a taxi. As you exit the arrivals hall, you will see a desk where they sell the tickets. The line was actually very short when we were there. It is only 24 US dollars per person. After that, just walk and follow the signs and you will see the train. The train is very clean, modern, and gets you from the airport to Central area of Hong Kong Island in only 24 minutes! This was simply the best airport to city public transport I have ever encountered in my travels. Everything was perfect.

Like a lot of airport stations this one also has a surcharge. In fact my friend suggested that the bus is actually cheaper, and also dropped me off near my hotel. However, the cool thing about the airport train is that you can actually check your bags in at the station as opposed to lugging them all the way to the airport. The other thing is that it is pretty fast, and also takes you directly to the island. However, as I mentioned, it is somewhat pricey.

We discovered the Airport Express during our recent trip to HK, and it's one of the best findings ever. haha :) So convenient, fast, and efficient if you want to get to your hotel in either Central or Kowloon. For 1 passenger on the Airport Express, it's HKD $90 from Airport to Kowloon. However, if you buy the 2 person pack, it's HKD $140 for 2 one-way tickets. What a sweet deal we got! :) We took the Airport Express subway/tram from the Airport to Kowloon, and it was only a 20-22 minute ride. It drops us off at the Kownloon MTR Station, at which point you can take one of the complimentary airport-hotel shuttles to your hotel in Kowloon. Prices are reasonable, and service was great. The complimentary shuttle drops you off right in front of your hotel, score!

It's awesome that HK have the airport express. From Kowloon station to airport, it's about 20 minutes and cost about $90. They charge you upon checking in your bags. I took Eva air so i get to check In a Day in advance. Makes things easier. The seats are wide and comfy. Thumbs up to the city checkin service!

Hong Kong review #3 Without question, the absolute BEST way to get from Hong Kong International Airport into Hong Kong (or HK to HKIA) is the MTR's Airport Express! It's climate controlled, very clean, reasonably quiet, comfortable, plus it takes just 24 minutes go from the airport to Hong Kong (or HK to the AP)! Once it departs, there are only 3 stops, Tsing Yi, Kowloon, then Hong Kong and there's a nifty "progress light" so you know at a glance how far along you are. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/%E6%A9%9F%E5%A0%B4%E5%BF%AB%E7%B6%AB-%E9%A6%99%E6%B8%AF?select=b8zZzC2qQ_dQetUJKugFFQ Cost? Pretty reasonable! You can buy one way ticket for HK$100 (US$12.90) or round trip for HK$180 (US$23.20 - 30 days to use). If you're staying in Hong Kong a few days or longer, it might be better to get an Octopus Card. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/%E6%A9%9F%E5%A0%B4%E5%BF%AB%E7%B6%AB-%E9%A6%99%E6%B8%AF?select=xCydBZUO5EKtPati2DJeVA This is an electronic stored value smart card. You just "wave" it over the reader and the fare is automatically deducted for the MTR, Airport Express, Light Rail, Buses and Ferries, plus some vending machines and more, it's very easy! http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/%E6%A9%9F%E5%A0%B4%E5%BF%AB%E7%B6%AB-%E9%A6%99%E6%B8%AF?select=T_zKMSjFhaBirvV4Bcco0Q OVERALL: The Airport Express is the fastest and easiest way to go to and from HKIA! I just wish Los Angeles had something like this at LAX!

Pauline W.

So far so many years, I find this is the most reliable public transportation commuting between Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the airport. The passenger's cabins are always clean and well maintained, quiet and comfortable. The train runs every several minutes. The fare is reasonable. If you want to pay even cheaper, buy your tickets ahead of time online at the airport express official website, from travel agents or apps, like Klook.

Charge your mobile devices whilst riding the Airport Express!

I now have the routine down pat, and I have to say: getting to HKG airport isn't at all bad! It starts with a quick taxi ride from my flat in Happy Valley to the Hong Kong MTR station ($38-$50 HKD depending on traffic). Because you're dropped off right in front, it's a quick walk to the airline check-in counters where you can drop your luggage and obtain your boarding pass before catching an Airport Express train to the airport. How cool is that - no more dealing with cumbersome suitcases starting at the Airport Express origin point! And the boarding pass means you go straight to security once you arrive at the terminal. The ride itself (a smooth 24 minutes) is thoroughly enjoyable as there's some nice scenery and there are also outlets for charging your mobile device. I usually purchase a roundtrip ticket online for $180 HKD, though I wish they'd allow you to print a ticket with barcode at home. My only criticism of the Airport Express is standing in the line to collect your ticket once you arrive at the Hong Kong MTR station. It usually moves pretty quickly, but really wish they'd eliminate that step. You can purchase your ticket directly from a kiosk (there's rarely a line there), but you can't use your credit card at those machines. Overall, I feel very lucky to have such an efficient and cost-effective way to access the airport. I truly believe that the travel experience begins with your transport to the airport, and I like mine to be as stress-free as possible. Trust!

Truth!

The Airport Express is my jam! Getting to and from Hong Kong island has never been easier. At the airport, you have various opportunities to buy tickets: right before you leave baggage claim, after you leave baggage claim, and at ticket machines near the trains. At the time of this review, it costs about $180 HK roundtrip from the airport to Hong Kong Central. Hop on the train, and 24 minutes and 3 stops later you're in town!* There is supposedly free wifi on the platform and I believe on the train as well, but I've never been able to access it. I'm not sure if you have to have a HK sim card/service provider, or if I'm just an idiot who doesn't know how to find free wifi. During transit, I think the train goes underwater at some point, because my sensitive ears can feel the pressure and they occasionally pop. Usually this happens when we're approaching Tsing Yi station, and in between Tsing Yi and Kowloon. I thought there were some decent views to be had when you leave Tsing Yi station going to Kowloon, so have your camera out if you're interested! If you're going towards HK Island and facing forward, I think the views are better on the left side of the train. Going back to the airport is seamless as well; and with the ability to check in your luggage in town, it makes the return trip a ton easier.** Have a pleasant journey and enjoy Hong Kong! -- *That is, if you hop on at HKIA. The first stop on this line is actually Asia-World Expo. **I wish they had that service in NYC!

It shows you the remaining minutes before the train arrives. So don't rush, basically.
Kevin L.

Maybe I'm utterly biased but the public transportation here in Hong Kong is so good you would never need a car. Used to be a fan of the bus routes from downtown to the airport. It usually took an hour. A pretty decent ride, given the scenery (the Tsing Ma Bridge, for instance), and usually with emptied seats and quite, sleeping passengers. But Airport Express is a different beast. 24 minutes, you go from the airport to Hong Kong station, which is essentially the heart of Central. Twenty-four minutes. Combined with one of the most efficient airports in the world, it was a true demonstration of the "Hong Kong efficiency". The downtown check-in is genius too, and since you can check-in within 24 hours before departure, there were occasions where I checked during lunch time (when I worked at IFC), or had my colleague checking in the night before, pulling a all-nighter at LKF, and taking the Airport Express in the morning directly to the airport. The trains arrive to the station every 10mins, but since they stay at the platform for 3 - 4mins, so you don't really feel like waiting for a long time on the platform, if you ever miss the last train. One thing that definitely deducted a star was the depreciation of the seats. While the airport is just as new, you can easily see the seats on Airport Express worn out a lot. Time for some polishing.

Getting to/from an airport should be quick, convenient, and inexpensive. The Airport Express fits the bill. Taking just 24 minutes with stops in Tsing Yi, Kowloon, and finally Hong Kong, the train costs just $100 HKD (compared to £21.50 GBP to ride the Heathrow Express). The Hong Kong station connects to the Central station so you have access to all the subway stops on the island. It really is that easy. On the way back to the airport, you can check in and drop off your bags at the Hong Kong station before getting onto the airport express. Again, super easy. The ride itself is pretty uneventful, the upholstery in the train cars is a little worn, and the TVs in the cars don't seem to work, but it's still a first class system.

Interior!

When this first opened, I thought nobody would take it. It's $100 HKD, which is about $13 USD - not expensive, but the buses are cheaper (about $39 HKD). Last Sunday, not only did many people take the Airport Express, but it was standing room only! The In-Town Check-In system allows anyone to check in from Central (and other locations) as long as they use their Octopus Card to take the Airport Express afterwards. This convenience has enticed even this penny-pincher to take the Airport Express. Getting to the Airport from Central in 24 minutes is certainly a plus. Saving time is worth a lot of money in Hong Kong. I am glad that I was able to put all four of my check in luggage items within 24 hours of my flight, hang out in Central with a bunch of buddies before heading to the airport for my evening flight. New York City has much to learn from Hong Kong. *Sigh*, at this rate, we'll probably never catch up.

Very clean inside the train and has spectacular views of Hong Kong

While the bus is cheaper and good for people who are afraid of heights, it takes much longer, about 50 to 60 minutes. The mountain roads are also very winding, which can make some people feel dizzy. My husband and I rode the Crystal Cabin to see the Big Buddha on our last trip. Since it was our daughters' first time in Hong Kong, we really wanted them to try it, too. They do have regular cabins without clear floors, but none of us are scared of heights, so we happily chose the glass-bottom one. We bought our tickets early on Klook. It was much cheaper than buying them at the gate. We also chose to visit on a weekday, which was a great choice because it was not crowded at all. I still remember our last visit ten years ago was super packed, and people had to wait in huge lines just to get on. The cable car ride takes about 25 minutes each way. We only bought a one-way ticket this time because we wanted to visit Tai O Fishing Village afterward. It was a fun, smooth, and beautiful 25-minute ride. We loved looking down at the green hills, seeing waterfalls, and watching the Big Buddha and Po Lin Monastery come into view. Surprisingly, it was not hot at all, and it felt pretty cool up there on the mountain. It was truly amazing!

The line for the crystal glass cabin is significantly shorter than the standard one too so avoiding the wait alone is worth it. Everyone working at the terminals is friendly and helpful. The food courts and restaurants is a foodie paradise. It feels like you are dining at some of the best places with service to match. I hate layovers but this is one stop where I actually look forward to. I don't understand why the U.S. airports have not excelled in this area yet. Here are a few food places I recommend inside the airport: - located at Terminal 5, Level 1, we dined at Ryu Shabu Shabu upon landing. Luggages must be left outside the restaurant. Only in Asia can you feel comfortable doing this. We were famished since we didn't eat any of the airplane food. The meal set here was so satisfying. They slice large pieces of Wagyu in front of you. Dipping in that special raw egg with the bright red yolk was heaven. The broth is similar to a Sukiyaki. - Next door to Ryu, I got a hot Longan & Red Dates Nut Mylk. My son who is not into hot drinks took a sip and his eyes show how shockingly good it was. He couldn't stop raving about it. - Duddell's for its Michelin Starred dim sum. Their restaurant is located in Central but they have a spot here at departures hall. - I also highly recommend Yung Kee Restaurant at Terminal 1 (Gates 40-80) for some Roast Goose and Soy Chicken. Service was stellar. Tons of shops for those last minute duty-free gifts. I got a couple of cool magnets for my travel fridge collection. I swear, HK Airport has the nicest smelling restrooms.
