My girlfriend likes to pretend to be worldly so naturally, when she saw Yoshinoya, she had to make a point that she had been there before. Unfortunately for her, knowing about Yoshinoya is about as worldly as knowing about which TV dinner options are available at your local Walgreens.
Yoshinoya is about as mediocre you can get for Japanese food. The food is ordered at a counter, fast food style. You pick up your tray after a couple minutes and seat yourself. Think Burger King but instead of burgers, you can get beef rice bowls.
The idea is good but the food itself is unsatisfying. I ordered a beef bowl for around 5 USD. The food came out looking like a microwave dinner with about a small strips of beef and a few cabbages and carrots. It looked and tasted like airplane food. I ate it within two minutes and ended up running next door to Sushi Express, where I got a sashimi platter for about the same price.
If this restaurant were in the US, I would eat it more often but in Asia, there's so many other options. Look elsewhere. read more
