Be careful who you get. I've been here many times in the past few years but today was the WORSE massage because it was like an oiled rub down. She did not use any pressure and when I spoke up, she went and yelled that this is just a swedish massage not a deep tissue. But I've had many swedish massages at this place, at this exact location and they still used some pressure. I should have known it was going to be a non-massage, when I can hear her pump the massage oil 10 times before even starting and only for it to drip down to my chin. When I went to my appointment I went to the wrong place, which is their sister nail salon a block over. I was redirected and found my way to the right space. It was wonderful. Front desk was great, then there is a relaxing tranquility waiting room. I was given a mimosa and Ferrer Rocher. The massage itself was one of the best I've had. My masseuse was named Abby. I asked for, and got, perfect medium pressure. I wasn't there for deep bodywork but rather for relaxation, and she delivered on my request. I took my daughter (inlaw)-to-be for her birthday. This place is adorable and our massages and facials were very good. They had a little throne room where you could take photos, the waiting area feels like a little tropical island, and they served champagne and chocolate cake and even had a little gift (as well as a sash and a tiara) for her birthday. It is a fun place and the treatment rooms are clean and relaxing and you are in good hands here. I think they have so many excellent reviews for good reason. I will be back. read more

Beautiful new spa location in Midtown. As soon as you enter this destination, you'll immediately feel relaxed. They offer all guests bottled water and champagne while waiting for services. They offer manicures, pedicures, Swedish massages and facials! The Swedish massage was amazing and better than most I have previously had. The masseuse really worked with me to eliminate any knots that I had in lower back and shoulders! It can be a bit painful but the results are worth it. Went for a massage and they kept on walking in while I changing, I personally was just thrown after that. Also, they worked from head to toe, but did not wash their hands after my toes and went back up, not really the most hygienic practice. Another time I went for a facial, but also like what others said, not much explaining of anything just jumping right into the service. I also really wish they used gloves just overall for everything. Sanitation thing for me I guess. I guess you get what you pay for. I feel like it's like faux fancy. Also, they only take cash tips and give you an envelope with whoever's name, feel like it would be easier if there was a credit option. Everyone was very nice though! I want to say this was an amazing experience. I came in with my mom and sister, I had scheduled an appointment for a Swedish massage. So, the staff was all so nice and sweet, they had us wait in a beautiful and calming dimly lit area with beautiful plants all around, they offered champagne and mimosas. I have had a membership with ZZ Day Spa for a number of years and have not had any concerns. I recently had to cancel my appointment due to an unforeseen issue. Upon calling to reschedule my appointment, I was told I needed to pay a cancel fee. Ok sure, but when speaking to people that I talk to monthly, I expected a little more empathy. Instead, I was met with a condescending tone and I felt slightly taken aback. My appointment was cancelled, and I sent a follow up email inquiring about my membership. Upon coming back from vacation, I called to reschedule my appointment, and was told that my membership was cancelled and that I was not able to reschedule my 2 prepaid services. Spa owner Gary and his business practices are not to be trusted. I paid in full for a package for a group of 14 people in March that included three services (massage, facial, and mani/pedi). By the time we visited in September, the spa eliminated one of the services from the package, but did not update this information in all places on its website. Since the modified package was introduced after the time of purchase, I asked for a partial refund for the service not rendered during our visit. Instead of acknowledging that the package changed, Gary doubled down that the discrepancy was somehow my fault. He and his spa manager chalked the records I provided to misprints and typos on the spa's end that, according to them, I should not have taken at face value (screenshots of my automated confirmation from March and the website that both list three services attached). Gary also shamed me repeatedly for not being grateful for the services we received. He called me "morally bankrupt" for even requesting the refund, questioned who raised me, and told me I was "taking food off [his] staff's table." He also accused me of "threatening" him when I said I should write a review about this experience. While Gary initially declared he was withholding the refund, he backtracked via text. He apologized for his behavior, but not without reiterating that the error was not theirs. Contrary to what Gary tried to tell me, this refund was not a favor on his part. It was money I was owed due to a breach of contract. The fact that I had to be bullied, berated, and belittled to ONLY get back the bare minimum, along with an empty apology, speaks volumes about this operation. I should have known from the outset that this place was trouble when I caught an overcharge of almost $75 in my original payment (screenshot of refund attached). Go to this establishment at your own risk. I also want to make clear that this issue is with the management only. The staff were all lovely and I appreciated their services tremendously. read more

My BIRTHDAY was LIT!!! I appreciate the TLC today on my bday from ZZ Day Spa. I usually celebrate at a diff spa but closed down so I stumbled upon this jewel in this jungle of a city. What an escape and an oasis. The birthday package was LIT and the massage from LEAH at the 7 W.36th street location was such a treat. LEAH was AMAZING AMAZING. I was sort of disturbed by the fact the the lady who did my facial did not tell me before she applied a product or process exactly what she was doing and why. She did not seem to understand English that well so perhaps she was unable to tell me what she was doing. At Most facials I have been to elsewhere, the person would discuss my skin, what was needed and what she would do. She must have applied like 7 different things (creams?) to my skin but for all I know they could have been the same. I wonder if there was a rhyme or reason to what she did? Extraction was done with some roller type thing which I am not convinced is as effective as the old way of extraction with ones fingers and a tissue. Certainly didn't feel like anything was extracted. Anyway if I were to go again I'd ask for someone else but right now I hesitate to go back. read more

Love love love this spa. I have been going consistently monthly. Excellent service. They always confirm beforehand and you are basically greeted by name once you enter the door. They also do group events like Bachelorette and birthday parties. Today the owner happened to be there and greeted everyone in the waiting room. He even sang happy birthday to one of the clients. The waiting room is a tropical oasis with plants and tvs showing scenes of paradise. There is also relaxing music. The massage rooms also feel like you are under a canopy bed, with black out curtains and tvs with the ocean and the sounds of the waves or water fall. I debated whether or not to write this review since the spa has apologized for the experience but the reality is that NYC is loaded with wonderful spas and if you're going to spend your money at one of them, you should know that you have MANY better options. First of all, before the part that really destroyed my time at this spa, the whole massage experience was bizarre. The therapist never introduced herself and to describe her as cold and robotic would be generous. She literally ran down the hallway in front of me to lead me to the room. The massage table had a sheet on it that doesn't actually fully cover the black vinyl covering. How awful to have that sheet move and your arms and legs on that sticky plastic vinyl. The therapist wears gloves which is just such an odd feeling - you hear them, you feel them. I have had MANY massages and have never been anywhere in the world where the therapists wear gloves for a massage. She was so rough when it came to repositioning my arms and legs to however she wanted them at that point in the treatment. And when it came to turn over, she put a towel over effectively the entirety of my face. Over my nose, over my mouth. If you want to cover my eyes from the light use cucumber slices or something. Don't suffocate me. Just utterly bizarre. I had never been to this spa before and only went, truthfully, because my husband purchased a gift card for me. I gave the gift card information - my name, complete number on the back, etc. - over the phone when I made the appointment. They certainly had ample time to crosscheck their records for the card details as the appointment was a made a week in advance. Yet when I went to checkout they had no record of the gift card. Keep in mind this was THEIR pink gift card that was given to me in a plastic bag with their little soaps, etc. And I stood there while they looked it up, made phone calls, etc. Then they asked me who gave me this gift, has he/she been there before, how much was the card, etc. Let's go through this - IT WAS A GIFT. I don't make it a habit of asking people who give me gifts when they purchased it, with what mode of payment, how much was the value, etc. And if they are totally incapable of keeping track of this information then they should change their gift card format so that the actual card reflects exactly what was purchased. I actually had to call my husband who was at the Rangers game with friends to ask him what he spent and where he bought it (56th street location). Fortunately it was my husband so I could make that call. Could you imagine if it was someone with whom I wasn't as close who wanted to give me a lovely gift? Totally humiliating and so tacky. The best part is that they actually tried to keep the card. They had no idea what was actually on it but just decided to arbitrarily say it was for "one service." What does that even mean? They have MANY services each costing a different amount. My service was $125 or something and they just tried to keep the card because of their incompetence. They did ultimately give me the difference back in cash for which I am very grateful because I would never have wanted to go back there and even use the money that was left on the card. That's how bad the experience was. Again, they apologized for the experience at the time and even called afterwards again to apologize. I appreciate that effort. But that doesn't mean this is a place where you should be spending your money. I have never been to a spa before with an overly lit hallway displaying cheap and cheesy instagram and tiktok props for people to post pictures that I suppose boost their social media profile. This is not a luxury experience. There's no changing room. There's nowhere to hang your clothing in the treatment room. No hanger for a soaking wet jacket after coming in from the rain. I was just told to just drop my stuff on a bench. Maybe I was just unlucky as I see lots of excellent reviews. Maybe this spa is just geared towards tourists in midtown who don't know about all of the better options. Maybe the owner just wants to have articles written about him on the internet about his $3mm/year revenue business which I read after the fact. I am glad they survived COVID. I want to support all small, local NYC business as a lifelong resident. Trust me when I say that at least based on my experience, I could list 20 places for you in under 2 minutes that would be better. This is the first time in my life that I have ever left a massage far LESS RELAXED than when I arrived. It was awful and I would never ever return. read more

Rarely do a post negative reviews but this felt exceptional. I went here for a bachelorette and management fumbled the ball a few times. We pre-booked more than 6 months in advance paying in full and since then they changed their service menu so our previously paid for mani-pedis were no longer included. I would not begrudge them that except when asking what happened (because no change was communicated to us) we were told it never included nail services... except in the email confirmation from 6 months earlier the nail services were clearly listed and they still left the nail services on part of their website for the package we purchased (since removed because we pointed it out). When broached about the nails after the fact (once we all got home and checked the booking) the management team yelled at the bride (who had booked the services) and paraphrasing here but called her corrupt for asking for the difference back for the nails. The owner also said a few other choice things. I feel bad for the staff because the technicians were wonderful and kind but if management feels that brazen to yell at someone who spent $5k at their business, imagine how they communicate to their staff. He did ultimately refund the missing nail services but that shouldn't have required being yelled at over the phone to receive. Would not go here again. read more

I went to ZZ Day Spa to celebrate my birthday and it was well worth it. Nancy gave me an amazing massage and then I was given a spa mani and pedi that lasted over a week. After my services I was showered with goodies and cake and all the while my mimosas never stopped flowing. I recommend ZZ Day Spa to any woman in need of a rejuvenating spa day where the employees make you feel like royalty. I will definitely be back again.
