I went as a walk in and was taken right away. It was around 5:30 pm on a Monday evening and 22 degrees outside. Waiting area very clean and comfortable, spa like music playing in the background. I came here before about 8 years or so, things looked a little different but for the better. Yuni was my masseuse. Very petite and polite woman but man is she strong! She lead me to our room in the basement (I read another review that said it was cold and dark, not sure if that was 49th St.). Room was very comfortable and music softly playing in the background (review said that music was pumped/loud). She stated with a dry massage, with the blanket, and went into the official oil massage. Yuni definitely knows what she is doing because I didn't need to tell her about my problem spots she hit them right away! I was surprised at her strength and she literally almost had me so relaxed, I could have drooled while on the table. She did full back, legs, hips and arms. She didn't have me flip over but I got exactly what I needed so I felt no way about that. When she was done, she thanked me and I proceeded to get dressed and be on my way. Paid cash and left tip with the cashier and left feeling so relaxed. Convinced that this will be a monthly occurrence for me as it is so close to work and cost effective. I just came from Snowflakes Spa on 49th between 8th and 9th and Alan gave me the best massage I've had in years. An athlete, I've used my body hard in my life, and there are a lot of painful issues. He is a miracle worker. I will be going back and I will be recommending him to everyone. The spa itself is very nice, clean, welcoming, good ambiance, and friendly staff. And at this price I can go every week, as opposed to some massge therapists who have charged twice this amount and given substandard massages. HIGHLY recommended. read more

When Flo S. and I were in town, she saw that Snowflakes Spa was just around the corner - we were both in great need of a massage, and when we arrived, we were able to be seen right away as a walk-in - YAY! Snowflakes offers various types of services: aromatherapy, deep tissue massage, hot stone massage, reflexology, Swedish, and even a couples massage. We saw a sign outside, and we each opted for the 1-hour Body Work. I had Ms. Lee-Lee, and, she was absolutely the best! She worked out all the aches, pains, and the tightness that I was feeling in my neck, shoulder, back, and the calf area - my goodness, she was just amazing! Honestly, I was a little nervous and apprehensive, as I have never gotten a massage in NY, even when I used to live here - but, all your worries kind of melt away with various thoughts (literally and figuratively, as the place is well-lit, clean, quiet, and has a fresh aroma. I was surprised at how 'spacious' this place was, as we were led to our own 'rooms' (separated by curtains) downstairs - you basically take everything off except your underwear, and keep all your belongings in a tub that goes under the massage table. They have this throw type of blanket to cover yourself with - I just wished that they used a thin bed sheet of some kind, because the throw was a bit too thick. Once you're done, you dress and make your way upstairs to pay. Cash is preferable, and don't forget to give gratuity to show your thankfulness, because I sure did! Did a 90 minute sesh while staying nearby and it was worth every penny. :) -1 star due to very slight annoyance where I said I'd tip 20%, and the obligatory-haggly-Asian-counter-lady said $20 out loud. Didn't want to haggle over $4 with her (and the masseur was great), but it was just annoying enough for me to deduct a star here. This is the seediest massage spa. They take you downstairs in the basement, it's damp and smells old. I asked for a reflexology foot massage and the therapist had no idea what she was doing. Always had a good experience at Snowflakes. Clean massage rooms. Nothing fancy. The women massaging are very strong. I come here after work on my way home and it helps take out the tension in my shoulders. You can request to have them work on certain areas. I don't like getting massages with oil. So every time I go they just put a towel over me and the dry massage is just as relaxing and it doesn't leave me sticky if they were to use oil or lotion. They close at 10:30pm. Well the massage is $55 for an hour. I called and they were able to take me at the last minute. The guy gave a good massage on my back, and try to upsell me to the hour and a half. But he spent the whole hour just on my back he never flipped me over. Signs of a preferred cash, so it came in time I dug into my wallet and paid $55 in cash and gave him a $5 tip and he looks at the money and looks at me and says only $5, and the cashier says they usually tip $10 and I said well this is all I have. read more

I usually make an appointment day of and have no problem getting a reservation. I have really enjoyed every time I've gone, which is about 4 times now. I like that they do the hot stones at the end. So if you like laying below a beach towel with your face on top of 2 bounty paper towels with loud bass music and thumping around for one hour as your massage - this is the place for you. I'm usually loyal to my masseuse at Temple spa, but I thought maybe I'd save some money and try something new, but I would really question what you think is going to be worth $80-90 as opposed to maybe, $100-120 at a spa with more modern facilities, quieter environment, and/or better masseuses. My masseuse seemed to just be rubbing her hands on my body, lots of elbows and forearms (which is just a personal preference). I got a discount through classpass so it was just about $50 with tip, but with hindsight I would have stuck with my old masseuse and spent the classpass credits elsewhere. What I also felt was bad form was saying there's a $10 for tip. While I always tipped 20-25% to my usual masseuse, I don't think it's the best form for a shop owner to say that tip is required. read more

Do not come here, my friend was sexually harassed at the end of his massage by the man running the front desk multiple times. Came in with three people and massages were mediocre and literally knees down only for a foot massage. This is not standard in other massage parlors we've been to. The massage therapists were talking and pulled curtains back without asking and joining our rooms. We were led deep into a basement and felt confused as to how we should prepare, instructions were unclear and we were not given a hot water soak like normal and we all got different kinds of massages. No one should ever be inappropriately touched during a paid massage. Also, you shouldn't nudge for additional tip at the end. read more

I LOVE this place and have only good things to say about Snowflakes. I have been living in this area for about three years but only stumbled upon Snowflakes Spa about a year ago. I have been here for about ten times now and it never disappoints. The masseuses here are all very consistent, skilled and strong, which I love. I have to say my absolute favourite masseuse is Ada. She's seriously the best. She always manages to find all my knots and fix it! (some I don't even know it existed) - I constantly get the worst backpain. I don't want to sound dramatic but she's a Godsent and she saved my life. Highly highly recommend if you need someone to fix your knots. read more

You could have the ladies walk on you, as others have mentioned, but also you could get traditional back rubs etc. 10$ for 10 mins to start but its $50 for an hour, and you can customize based on the areas you want them to focus on. the place is pretty no frills as others have mentioned, but they did help with hot towels to remove the oil after and my skin was left pretty soft. I will say that its not a massage to help with more focused problems, but it definitely helps to work out the larger muscle groups. read more

I used to live about a 1 minute walk from this place, and it's such a life saver! Honestly the perfect way to relax and ease away the stresses of the city. I especially love including a foot massage, because you know my feet are in rough shape after walking/dancing in heels the night before. Woke up on a Sunday with knots and tightness. Called and was able to get my daughter and I both appointments within the hour. It was her first massage and they were very kind and accommodating. This is a no-frills space with lots of curtained rooms. It was clean and the tables were comfortable. The temperature was perfect (even though it was cold out) and it was quiet with relaxing music. Knowing it is bodywork spa, the initial 15 minutes is spent stretching and pressing. Ivy used some Thai techniques and found some spots in my upper back in need of adjustment. She was very thorough and found all of the knots and areas of tension. I recommend 90 minutes to allow enough time for a foot foot reflexology at the end. Great massage, very reasonable prices and off the beaten path so not noisy. I highly recommend!! read more

What an odd, odd experience. Bored on a Sunday afternoon, I wondered into this place to get a cheap massage. Knowing that it was a no-frills place, I didn't have high expectations except for receiving a great massage at a cheap price. Well, what I did receive was much much more than just a cheap massage. No, I'm not talking about that kind of massage. But my massage was interrupted about 5 times with random workers coming in and out of the massage area. At one point, the masseuse stopped my massage and left the room for 5 minutes. When she came back she told me a male masseuse was going to be taking over. That's b/c someone had walked in and asked for a female masseuse and the only one available was a male. I know this, because you can hear everything in this joint. I told the female masseuse that I was sorry, but I didn't want a new masseuse halfway through my session. The business is poorly run and they switch people around to keep customers from leaving. My massage was cut short and there were periods that no one was in the room performing work. Yeah, I get that it's a cheap place, but it's really weird that there were people in an out of my room while I was laying half-naked, exposed on a massage table. I could also hear people pissing in the toilet since my "area" was located adjacent to the washroom. On the flip-side, when I was actually getting massaged, the lady was great. read more

When I walked in I was a little nervous as I walked down the dark hallway with all of the sheets hanging but remembered the reviews I had read. I asked for a 45 minutes massage and ended up extending the additional 15 minutes because I didn't want it to stop. My masseuse did the most amazing job and worked out the tightest parts of my shoulders and back without me having to tell her a thing.
