I went to Zundo ramen tonight, and while the atmosphere was nice and so was our waiter. The fried shrimp curry rice was horrible. It was very mushy and the smell made me sick. I could only take one bite. I let the waitress know, and she went to get the manager and the manager only gave me $3 off because it was their "most popular dish". I literally just paid for it and left it there because you could tell that she was not wanting to have great customer service at that point. read more

Oh my, the gorgeousness of this ramen bar drew me inside! I love adorable places with a lot of character and colors. The walls were a lovely black, with beautiful red and white lanterns hanging from the ceilings. The bar area, as well as the tables and chairs, had a touch of light wood. It was perfect for what I needed: a nice, relaxing lunch. The server came over and showed me some of the favorites on the menu. I decided on the D10, a Katsu Curry Udon, a wheat noodle with pork cutlets in a curry sauce. I love every ounce of this bowl; it was plentiful for sure. But I love how thick the curry sauce and noodles were. It was such a hearty bowl with so much flavor. I took my time, ate as much as I could, and asked for a takeout box. There's no way you can eat the whole bowl in one setting. I gathered my takeout and sat on their patio for a while. It's a nice spot hidden away on the side of the building, away from the sun. It's such a great spot for people watching and taking in the scenery. I enjoyed my lunch and my time here. I most definitely will be back. Fondren Stroll Before Bowl I had some time to kill before bowling, so I decided to stroll through Fondren. Their IG made the drinks look irresistible, so naturally, I had to check them out! As soon as I walked in, I was impressed by the atmosphere--a perfect blend of modern style with vintage touches at every corner. I grabbed a seat at the bar and ordered a couple of cocktails. The lotus martini quickly became my favorite, thanks to the bartender, who was incredibly helpful in guiding me to a drink that matched my spirit preference. I got dinner here while staying in Jackson on a GA-TX road trip. I was surprised to find such a good ramen restaurant in this city, but upon further research this neighborhood (Fondren) seems like a central landmark, and has a hippie vibe. A restaurant nearby (Brent's Drugs) was featured in "The Help". I got the special Tomato Parmesan Ramen, Chashu Bun, and Green Tea Ice Cream. Everything was great! The Chashu bun probably could have used more seasoning and the chashu meat wasn't as tender as I'd have liked. The ramen flavor was unlike anything I've ever tried which was so cool. The decor and layout seems well organized depending on what kind of night you're there for. An alcohol bar for drinks or a date night, a lower seated bar for the eat and run, and some tables in the back for larger groups. I was at the actual bar, and service was easy since the bartender was right there. He'd check in often though. I had ordered a shoyu ramen with black garlic oil and woodear mushrooms added. I also got a seaweed salad to start. The ramen was forgettable and the amount paltry. The broth had no flavor which was almost worse with the black garlic oil since there was nothing savory or umami to balance off of. I'd definitely prefer it much hotter as well. The amount of ingredients and noodles left a lot to be desired. Barely any woodear for a 3 dollar addition, way too much bamboo shoot to take up space, and not enough noodles which didn't have any bite or spring anyway. The roast pork it came with is just pork belly but didn't taste like much either. And the egg? Not worth mentioning. Seems like the place is new though. Perhaps it just needs some time to adjust. Considering the lack of competition though, I'd consider stopping by if in the area just to see if there were improvements over time but only that. read more

I've been wanting to try this spot for a while but I've never had ramen so I wanted to wait until the newness wore off. Luckily I have a friend who likes to eat out-the-box food like me so we met at 5pm. Service was very good. I actually felt things moved quickly in here but I was so busy trying to figure out what to order. Word to the wise......the appetizers are hot! Burned my mouth lol. Started out with shrimp dumplings. They were ok. Not something I have to order again. My friend ordered marinated deep fried chicken which was excellent! Believe it was chicken thighs but they were fried and flavored just right. I would definitely order that next time. We both got the tantanmen ramen. There was plenty of meat, noodles and the veggies! I was surprised by the portion size as I felt two can dine off one bowl! The broth was good but a little spicy. I noticed the menu gave spice levels but we were not asked now we wanted ours. I had a sample and the flavor was delicious, but then came the heat! :) I had the signature ramen (first one listed, with pork belly) and my companion had the katsu curry rice Donburi. We each thoroughly enjoyed every bite. Portions were ample. I also had the shrimp tempura as an add-on, and that is the only item I might hesitate to recommend only because it was so oily. For $4.99, two shrimp coated with crispy panko. If you don't mind the oil, give it a try. Everything was served hot, cooked to order. Go for the ramen. Delicious ramen in a rich broth. Mike had the spicy creamy one with the sliced pork. It was delicious. Now for my dish. The server, who was super sweet, said she loved the curry. I'm a sucker for red, green and yellow Thai curry. This is none of those. It's like a thick gravy, Indian type curry. The pork cutlet was really nice but I'm no fan of Japanese curry. This is the third time I've been to this place and it's so delicious! I went the first time with my friends, and that was the first time I've ever had Ramen before and from my first time I was pleasantly surprised. I didn't think I would like it. 10.5 years is how long I've waited for a real ramen shop to come to Jackson, today is the day, and I could almost cry The place is inviting, hip, and fun! Every detail from the textured walls, the cool wicker seats, the dim, but bright neon lighted bar, it was beautifully done, Little Tokyo in the sip! They had a lot of different Japanese finger bar food that we always look for. Takoyaki which is a savory pancake type ball with Chopped octopus (highly recommend), shrimp shumai which is like a steamed dumpling, tatsuta-age which is chicken marinated and lightly fried, and edamame. We both got ramen of course! We always order tonkotsu everytime we get ramen, which is slow simmered, creamy, rich, pork bone broth...so of course he got the tonkotsu, I got the spicy miso. Ramen, when done right, is amazing. No, it's not instant ramen, no it's not Maruchan. These noodles are made in house, pork was tender, soy sauce marinated 6min egg is PERFECTION! They just opened today, so wait for food was slightly long, but that's normal, give them some time to work out the kinks They did an awesome job, if the food is good now, it'll be even better in time!! love the modern feel this place provides with ample bar seating. cocktails before dinner included a japanese whiskey flight and the singapore sling which both provided a new cocktail twist. i enjoyed the beef brisket ramen and he had the loco loco don. both dishes were excellent and i would recommend both. our new friend, acquired at the bar, enjoyed the chicken katsu ramen which looked great and he boasted as a personal favorite. service was extremely lacking and on more than one occasion not only us but other patrons were observed hailing wait staff for service. this place would achieve a hard given five star if service matched the level of food. read more

I went to check out Zundo's grand opening Friday and even for its first couple days, it's almost hitting the 4x5. Overall (5/5): When you walk in you immediately know you're about to get hit with some pretty amazing Asian flavors, because the style alone wraps you up in a warm, modern Japanese vibe you can't get anywhere else in our city right now. It's probably the wall of maneki-neko (lucky cats) right when you walk in. Is it me, or does everyone one else want to just tap all their hands so they move? It's like they are beckoning you to come inside, and according to legend, that's a sign that should be followed. (I did and it was with it). Atmosphere (5/5): As I mentioned before, it's a sleek, modern and warm Asian design. There's a bit of Tokyo style thrown in with lighting at the bar. But overall it's a great place to spend time no matter the occasion. Family night out, friends having food and drinks, business dinner, etc. The music is a bit loud in the evening. Keep that in mind if you bring the little ones around that time. I'd recommend bringing them earlier. You also get extra VIP Toast points if you come early. Lighting is quite nice. As you can tell, they were perfect for my pictures. Service (5/5): For it being a their grand opening and a Friday, I believe they did a phenomenal taking care of guests. Kathy, our server, was very nice, patient, and always working as hard as she could to take care of everything. Food (4/5): All of my food tasted great! None of it went to waste. I've been waiting on a ramen place forever. Any kinks in service time or small things will be worked out and they're already in a great place now I wouldn't hesitate recommending them to anyone. Shoyu Ramen: soy based with chicken broth, roasted pork, bamboo shoots, green onion, seaweed, and I added wood ear mushrooms. - The broth had just the right amount of saltiness from the soy and the pork had a rich flavor. With the clean bites from the veggies this was a delicious ramen. Tako Yaki: fried wheat flour and octopus balls with special sauce and fish flakes - A bite of heaven in my mouth. I thought I wanted to share, but I'm glad I didn't have too. I recommend everyone try this at least once. Don't let the octopus scare you. Kurobuta Sausage: broiled Japanese prime sausage I liked it, but Japan has to go against Country Pleasin' and it's not a fair fight because I'm a Southern Mississippi girl. To make it in the Jackson, MS world, this sausage probably needs more friends on the plate for pizazz [not pictured]. (I'm biased, don't blame the Kurobuta Sausage - it was tasty still). But if you order this, don't forget to try it with the mustard, that's where the magic happens. read more

Loved it. My wife and I visited Zundo last Saturday and found a new favorite spot. The ambience is perfect. Great vibe. Love that you can watch the pros making noodles. We were greeted warmly and seated quickly. Food was excellent. We split some gyoza to start. I was a little worried because it was so good I didn't think our ramen would hold up. I was wrong. Love that gyoza, but... The ramen was perfect. I got the Tonkotsu with black garlic oil, wood ear mushrooms, corn and an extra half egg. She got the shoyu with the same, minus mushrooms. We were both very, very happy. Highly recommended. We'll be back sooner than later. read more

Best ramen you can find in MS!! I've tried all of their ramen options and there isn't one that stands out as the champion, just up to your own personal preference. Tonkotsu is my go to just because it really warms you up on a cold or sleepy day. Another great option is their Chashu Buns but if you're not sharing they can really fill you up. The staff are incredibly kind and accommodating and always polite to me. read more

We were just casually hanging out eating appetizers and then went to order an entree when our server, Ruby, said the kitchen is closed at 2:30. It was 2:31 and she didn't let us know that the kitchen was closing which a proper server should do. Gina the manager came and rectified the situation in a very respectful manner. Went last night for their grand opening with my wife. They were busy but the staff was doing a good job keeping up. We ordered 4 dishes takoyaki as a starter, a bowl of ramen each, and a plate of curry rice. I would give the food a 10 for Jackson and Mississippi. I could say I have had better in Japan but that's like saying pineapple is better in Hawaii. The broth was spot on, the noodles had a great mouth feel, and the other toppings really brought the right flavor to the whole party. So we will be back. read more
