This is an update on my recent review posted on 2/16. The Zoom Drain service manager Ian Butters contacted me and asked if he can do anything to correct the issue. He came over right away and flushed out the remaining root ball in 20 minutes after three attempts with different sized nozzles and free of charge. Ian is perseverant, enthusiastic and friendly with a positive work attitude. He is efficient and gets the task done no matter how challenging it is. He proves to me that Zoom Drain is a responsible company willing to put customers first and provides the best quality service with 100% satisfaction guarantee. As a result I would like to revise my previous review from one to five stars for their professionalism. I highly recommend Ian with no hesitation. Our landscape drain was partially clogged during the recent rain storm. Zoom Drain came over and unclogged the drain in about 20 minutes and charged us for $393. I reviewed the video provided by them the following day and noticed that there were still quite a few roots remaining inside the drain. I didn't expect them to clean the drain completely and only asked if they could come back to flush out two remaining root balls visible in the video but was told that they would charge me for another trip with a 15% discount. It's outrageous that I need to pay extra for the work they didn't even finish in the beginning. They unclog the drain by only loosening the roots with hydro jet instead of flushing them out. The technician was defensive and claimed that his job was to unclog, not clean the drain. He also claimed that their 30-day satisfaction guarantee applies only to the "indoor plumbing". Both claims contradict the messages posted on their own website. I don't mind paying $393 for 20 minutes work so long as they provide good quality work with satisfying results but not for a sloppy job like this. I would not use Zoom Drain again nor recommend them to anyone with a landscape drainage issue. read more

I have a major recurring problem with roots, so I signed up for their annual program. Ian is the regular guy who has been doing the work. He always calls first to give adequate notice, so there'e no "Surprise!, I'm here!" and then you would have a major inconvenience. He does quality work, shows me the roots on the camera, and answers all my questions. Obviously, no one wants a root problem, but this company is excellent if you have one. Zoom Drain is a specialty plumber that deals with sewers and drains. Shortly after moving in to our new home (and having JUST completed our remodel), we had a very tough situation with frequently clogging, corroded 50+ year old cast iron sewer lines. Multiple "generalist" plumbers told us they were too corroded to safely snake for much longer, and they were also too far gone to reline. Their only option was to cut into the foundation of our home and and replace them manually- which would have been a absolutely massive, damaging, and hugely expensive job. Sean and his team came to the rescue- he had the right tools and equipment to reline the sewer lines in-place. We had a few significant challenges thrown our way but Sean and his team patiently worked through them and we now have good-as-new sewer lines! (It seems that someone had attempted a partial reline many years ago which was so poorly done it actually CAUSED part of our blockage. Long story short, we wound up having to dig up this small portion of the line after all- but it still wound up being much less invasive than if we had to do the whole system) So, two things I learned: 1) When you're buying a home, get the sewer lines inspected so you know what you're getting into! 2) For challenging or complicated work like this, it is absolutely worth it to go with a specialist with the right experience and equipment to do the job. read more

I found Zoom Drain from Yelp reviews. Earlier this year, we had roots get into our backyard drains that were causing major backup during the rains. Ian came out and worked so hard to grind out the roots using some amazing equipment and cameras, but he couldn't get all the way through. We talked about the possibility of having to take up the concrete since the drains were so impacted ...but that was a last resort. He suggested to go on a maintenance plan every six months by using root killer and grinding them out. It worked! Today, after working his magic, he saw very little roots and the water was flowing! We will stay on maintenance every year from now on as it will be an ongoing issue. Ian is professional, personable and an expert in his field. So it's Labor Day, early in the morning and my sink has been stopped up for two days. When I looked for a plumber, zoom drain was the only one open 24 hours and we were to be at a barbecue at noon. Yes we're going to be a little bit late however, the guys got here at 10 o'clock, record time and we're finished at 11:45. We had a blockage in the drain and so a quick snake and it's all cleared. Every part of this experience was easy- from appointment set up, to having our problem resolved quickly, and paying for the services. When we turned on our sprinklers, we would get water puddles in different spots in our backyard. Johnny came out, gave us an estimation, and after we approved, he got started right away. I had a root-bound outdoor drain. My landscape guy rented a root-snake and couldn't clear it. He recommended breaking the concrete and replacing about 20 feet of drain pipe. $6000+. My neighbor recommended Zoom Drain. Johnny Rodriguez came out from Zoom and used his high-pressure water equipment to clear out about 2 pounds of roots and a bunch of sand and rocks. Ian is so knowledgeable and saved me a lot of anguish and cost by offering an alternative to tearing up my concrete. I had noticed my yard not draining from these last severe downfalls in So Cal. Normally, would not have noticed that there could be a problem. He did an excellent job diagnosing and offering me a solution. I had another plumber come out and diagnose my yard. He told me that I needed to spend nearly 20k to rip out the concrete and put in new drains. I didn't want to spend that kind of money, plus I didn't want my entire yard ripped out. His solution was to pressure the drains out, remove the roots that had overtaken the yard and to put root killer in the drains. I used Zoom for the first time yesterday to unclog some underground landscape drainage pipes that have been clogged for many years, causing huge puddles every time it rained. Ed was the person who came to do the job. Ed was friendly and communicative, and was very thorough in showing me the different hoses and fittings he would be using to clean out the drains as well as how he would be using them. He was very upfront about costs for different alternatives, and explained what each alternative would entail. We called for a backed up drain in our cafe. We had another company come out and they wanted $1600 to hydroblast our drains. We told him that was way too much and we'd try something else. We ended up calling Zoom Drains and they came right out. They said we could do either, have them snake it or hydroblast. Snake would be $209 & hydroblast was $309!! We were thrilled. I cannot rave enough about the experience we had with Zoom Drain. Paul is so knowledgeable and professional. He explained to us all the options upfront and was very clear about the quote for each option. We suffered problems with sewer backup for years and all the contractors we hired before could not find the root cause. We spent so much time and money to fix random areas and had to live with the issue for so long. In our first meeting with Paul, he was able to mark the exact spot that caused the problem and proposed a solution for us. He came with his equipment 2 days later, dug up the area, found the neighbor's pipe blocking ours, and helped us fix it.
