This place is great - very reasonable high quality work. Murph is the man. You've got our cars, Car Zone.

Love Car Zone in Somerville. Hit a nasty pot hole in Boston and heard a squeal afterwards. Brought it by and they looked to make sure it is safe and it's all good. No fixes needed but he showed me what he looked at, etc. I like that. No mansplaining . Highly recommend this spot! The Nanaru is pleased. read more

Took our Toyota Rav 4 in to this place. Midas in Brookline quoted more than $2000 to fix leaking power steering fluid and address an Engine Check light. The guys at Car Zone took a quick look and it was a pipe that needed tightening and a fuel cap that was not put back on correctly. Within 5 minutes all was resolved. No leak nor light since. These guys were honest, friendly and quick and have a new customer for life. How much for 5 minutes work - they did not charge. read more

My car broke down, and after reading the reviews for Car Zone, I was hoping for the same experience! I had the tow bring it down and I talked with Murph! The guy is better then I could have imagined. Personable, honest, and acted with integrity. I found my new mechanic! Highly recommended and efficient honest quotes. Thank you Murph! read more

I used to be patronize ABJ in Somerville (see my review) which also has great reviews. However, lately, I've been feeling like they are too busy for work on my car, so I popped onto Yelp and found Car Zone. Being just a mile down the street from me, I have to admit that I've driven by a couple of times and never gave it a second look. However, when I called, they told me I could come by the same day. It was not a big job, just a couple of small things like a flat tire that we thought should be checked out. Murph checked out the tire and the rattling and didn't see anything that he thought should be fixed. The astounding thing is that he let me drive out without wanting a dime for his time! Folks, Car Zone is my new go-to place. I'm due for a big 90K maintenance visit on our other car and you better believe I'm going to have Murph and his guys do the job! read more

First time here (courtesy of Yelp reviews) and was impressed by the responsive and attentive service. I had a great experience here - and I also witnessed about 5 other customers leave similarly pleased while I was there. Murph took my car in about 7 minutes after asking some great questions. He was knowledgeable, articulate, respectful, and quick. I had been failed in a previous state vehicle test by another garage and had a suspicion that the failure was a scam to get me to fund work on my car. Murph was extremely professional, put the car up on the lift and walked me through both what he was looking for and what he was seeing. Murph confirmed my suspicion that the previous mechanic "invented" my vehicle test failure and even offered to go with me to the testing center (saving me another $29 for re-testing elsewhere) to ensure that the previous mechanic did the re-inspection properly. (I opted to do this on my own after the visit) He then had me sit in the passenger seat while he drove around the neighborhood trying to recreate a noise I heard the car make the day before. A few quick adjustments with a screwdriver and I was on my way. Murph didn't charge me for the adjustment or for the fact that he spent about 20 minutes looking at my car. I'm glad to have found such a trustworthy and efficient place to fix my car in the future. read more

I thought all these good reviews were too good to be true, but I stopped in with a hole in my tire today and one of the guys dropped what he was doing to take care of the tire for me at no charge. When the serious repairs are needed, I'll be coming back. read more

Nothing major done, had a check engine light come on and was concerned it was related to a previous shops repair. Ended up being that they didn't top off the engine coolant, which these guys did no charge and sent me on my way. Hopefully won't need it too soon, but will certainly keep them in mind for the next time I need something serviced. read more

3 words: Murph is awesome! Friendly, honest, efficient. He gave me advice on the best way to handle the problems with my car without breaking the bank. Will definitely be recommending this place to everyone I know in the Boston area with a car. read more

I have been taking my Infiniti M35 to Car Zone for 6 years. I hardly ever have any issues. 3 years ago brakes. They allowed me to order parts at Rock Auto and install them. Best brake job ever. Had to take my car in twice in the last month. They put it up on the jacks, took a look and sent me off somewhere else to get things fixed. Actually the first time just helped me realize there was no problem. No charge. No BS. Tried to give him some money and he wouldn't take it. Probably saved me $600 between the 2 visits. You don't find people as good as this guy in any business these days. An honest place that does great work. read more

Went to get my car checked out after the heat shield started rattling. I was nervous about getting a bad deal since I don't know anything about cars, but Murph was really nice and helpful and didn't try to upsell me at all! I'll definitely be going back again for future car issues, and referring my friends. read more

Best customer service EVER. Called 45 minutes before closing about a broken brake light. Even though they were busy, they fixed it in less than 5 minutes, and did it for free! They also gave me great advice to fix some car body issues. They have a returning customer for sure. read more

With or without an appointment, they usually get me in & out in under 20 minutes. Came in for an oil change and they also filled my tires, checked/topped off all the fluids in my car, and also got some advice on my next set of tires. I've also been here previously for pre-purchase inspections (just showed up with the car's owner with no appointment) and they did a thorough inspection of the vehicle(s) and have saved me more than once from buying a ticking time bomb. Murph & crew are the best. Good, fast, and cheap (who said you can't get all three?). At a minimum, they don't try to rip you off like the average shop in Boston. read more

Went in for a simple oil change and filter based off reviews I read here and also (tbh) to test the waters and see how things went. Murph is legit! Made an appointment and I was in and out. Murph gave me solid advice and feedback on my 15 year old beauty and he quickly gained my trust for all future repairs. Thanks for the solid advice folks, my car and I are breathing a sigh of relief. read more

My car was making an occasional weird squeaky noise so I brought it in to Murph. He determined that the noise came from metal rubbing on metal and while it sounded annoying it was perfectly safe. He said to fix the noise would require new struts at $600, which he advised against. Murph showed me the broken struts on another customer's car and explained where my noise was coming from and why it wasn't an issue. He didn't charge me anything for the diagnostics and encouraged me to come back in anytime my car was doing something I wasn't sure about. read more

They're quick, thorough, and happily explained everything to a novice owner. I was in and out in 10 minutes for a tire leaking air.

Yep, 5 stars, hands down. This is my mechanic moving forward. I originally went my dealer to address a parking brake issue, and got a quote basically replacing every component from the brake lever, to cable, to pads--near $1500--not an enormous sum, but still large enough to have a good weekend with. The explanation was fuzzy too, about stretched lines and how the cables 'attached' to the brake lever (can you smell freshness of that one?), so I decided to get a couple other opinions before I shelling out needlessly. First, Car Zone's punctual, they saw my right at the appointment time, didn't make we wait around twiddling my thumbs. Second, everyone I worked with (Murph and some of his employees) were very professional, which sadly isn't the case with my experience with many auto repair shops, even dealers. Third, their shop was neat and organized--I run away from any technical service shop that isn't organized. The sum total of all this is that I just felt complete at ease and in full trust of these guys were trying to fix my issue and land me as a repeat customer instead of trying to milk the situation. While I went to a nearby diner for a quick breakfast, they looked at the vehicle. I got a call back in just over 30 minutes asking me to return when finished to go over what they found. After getting back to the shop, Murph brought me back to my vehicle, pointed out me and clearly explained the issue, turned out to just need pads (and a rotor which most won't turn anymore). They then had someone drive me to work in Kendall SQ while they worked on it/waited of parts. At the end of the day, they sent someone to pick me up from work and bring me back to the shop. In all, the total cost was only 1/3 the bloated original quote received. I didn't think I'd ever say this about a auto shop where I wasn't related to the owner, but they're the best. To boot, I now have a much better understanding of the issues and wear on 4 wheel disc brakes (vs. older drum and disk setups). read more

Gosh - Murph and his team cannot do any wrong. They never let me down. Called yesterday if they could do an oil change - his team said to come by whenever and they would take me right in. Always true to their word - came back midday during the week, Murph and his team greeted me with big smiles, handed my keys to his team, and they took my car right in. Waited at the Dunkin Donuts across the street - perfect for getting some work done with their free Wifi - and came back a half hour later to a finished car. Murph is always pleasant - asking me about my plans for Thanksgiving - saying if he doesn't see before then to have a great holiday - what a guy. Oil change and filter cost be a flat $30 - not sure if that is the standard price. Checked my tire pressure and fluid levels. As long as I'm in the Boston area, I will continue to come to the Car Zone! Customer 4lyfe read more

Oil change, brakes, and recharged air conditioner same day without an appointment. Then they went the extra mile and took my car to where it had failed inspection and brought it back with a passed sticker. I didn't even ask for it. They just took care of it. Based on the great service and great reviews I was expecting him to ask me to post a review. He didn't mention it at all. But after a week of no problems I decided it was time to relay my great experience. read more

Wow! I am very impressed - I stopped by this morning after having had a recall on my Toyota Prius get fixed over the weekend at a nearby dealership only to have my check engine light turn on the day after. This was too much of a coincidence and I was pretty sure that the engine light was something from the recall fix, but the dealership said they would charge me a $125 fee just to get diagnostics done. I saw the amazing reviews of Car Zone and decided to check it out. I stopped by on a weekday around 8am and had literally no wait before the team got their diagnostic device to read the code of the check engine light. They showed me what the output code was and that it was related to exhaust and probably only my gas cap, that the dealership must've just left it a bit loose after checking it out this weekend. I tighten the cap and the check engine went away with their reset. It took less than five minutes and was totally free! (when I had expected to have to drop off my car for the day and potentially pay a diagnostic fee) I was able to drive away with no check engine light and will definitely be back with any other issues in the future. read more

First time here asking to get my car checked as there seemed to be a minor skimming noise. An hour or so later, Murph came back to me saying that my car is fine. And no cost for the check up. Amazing! read more

After bringing my car here for the last year or so, I still have nothing but the utmost praise for Murph and the team at Car Zone. No matter what has happened to my car, Murph always helps me out, including offering to let me borrow his car to drive to work or offering to pick me up in NH if I got stranded. Tell your friends, bring your car here, you'll never go anywhere else. read more

Murph always comes through in the clutch. Whether it be bailing my wife out when I was out of town and she broke down on Storrow, helping make sure our car was correctly inspected when a state inspection site suggested we needed thousands of $$ in unnecessary repairs, or taking my son across the street from the old location to buy him a snack, Murph and his team stand alone as it relates to service. I am very thankful we found Murph, and would recommend anyone go there, no matter how far away you may live. Murph has kept our car running, safe and saved us thousands of dollars. read more

THANK YOU CAR ZONE for taking a look at my car as soon as I walked in, patching up the nail in my tire within a few minutes, and sending me on my way without payment. (I called before I drove there just in case to see if they were busy) I was most worried about not having enough time or money to get a new tire, but time and money were not an issue. I am beyond grateful. read more

Murph is like a Car God to me. My 2001 Ford Escape has 136,000 miles, no air conditioning, and made some crazy noises, so I brought it to Car Zone thinking it might be time to cut my losses and sell it. First of all, I didn't have to wait at all for an appt; two hours after I'd dropped it off, Murph called with an estimate for the A/C and had checked the whole car, telling me it was in good shape after all. He finished the repair almost a day early and when I went to pick it up, it was $100 less then he'd estimated! I used to go to Meineke in Brighton but now I will always go to Murph instead. He is really a gem. read more

I had my regular maintenance in Car Zone. The service is very efficient and pretty amazing. Murph is very careful with all the check-ups, found a hole in our muffler, and fixed this problem even though we did not ask him to do so. We were impressed with his thoughtfulness and honesty. The price is reasonable. If you like to find a friend like Murph who is knowledgeable and skillful about mechanics, please don't miss Car Zone. I will definitely go back to here for the service of my car. read more

I brought an used car to do a pre-purchase inspection. Oh my god! It was a flood-damaged car! (I was about to buy that car in an hour.) He saved my money and my life! He didn't allow the seller to talk with us putting him in a separate place, and told me quietly what the problem the car has. Now, I don't need to do pre-purchase inspection anymore because I purchased a new car, thanks to him. But I will visit him again and again whenever I have an issue with my car. I wish to have a mechanic as good as him after I move to another city. Great Experience! and want to recommend him to everyone. read more

I brought my car to the Jeep Dealership in Medford and they said I had two things that needed replacement. Before doing them, I brought them to Car Zone for a second opinion. The manager Murph put the car on the lift and showed me that both of the things looked totally fine, saving me over $1,000. I've never had a mechanic offer to do that, and it showed his honesty because he only got an oil change out of the deal, but he did gain a customer for life. read more

Murph is totally cool and really honest. They are not cheap, but the prices are fair considering they do what needs to be done and not a bunch of stuff for an upsell. They also know japanese cars VERY well. read more

Murph is as good as it can possibly get in the world of mechanics. Not only is he friendly as heck, but he's also very honest (which is a top quality in a mechanic) - I'll give you an example: I had something wrong with my muffler (the car sounded like a Mustang 5.0 from 1989, but it's a Maxima), and I took it to Murph. When he called me back, he told me what was wrong, but then urged me to go take a look at it with him. When I got there, he put my car on the lift and showed me what was wrong. The last time I had work done on my muffler, some other garage had used very cheap parts and really screwed things up. So what Murph told me was: I can change the whole exhaust system, which will cost you about $1000, and I like to make money, but there is a guy at another place (which is not affiliated with Murph), who can fix it in a different way for around $80. That's obviously a huge difference. This guy would actually rather see me go somewhere else, as long as I get a good deal. I don't know what else you could possibly ask for. Best place to get your car fixed in Cambridge, hands down. read more

These guys did a great job with an oil change for my wife's car. I arranged to call them 10 minutes before I showed up, and they had a slot open for me and I pulled right in. I filled out some info, came back an hour later and the car was ready to go. $30 for an oil and filter change. No fuss, no hassles. It was just really easy. I'd use them again. read more

I couldn't have been happier with my experience here. I dropped off my car here one morning because my brakes were squeaking. I wasn't sure of what to expect, because I had always heard general cautionary tales of unnecessary charges by overzealous mechanics. I received a call about an hour later, and Murph explained that the brakes were fine, but they just happened to make that noise because of their brand. He gave me a few options, and after I chose not to change them, he didn't charge me for the checkup, even though I would have been happy to compensate him for his time. Amazing! read more

Murph and his team are the best! I found Car Zone last spring through yelp when I drove to Boston to pick up my daughter from college and my air conditioning stopped working. They fixed the problem so we could drive home in comfort. This fall when I dropped her off, my car wouldn't start. He again fit me in on short notice and fixed the problem. He also gave my car a once over to make sure that it was safe to drive home and identified another problem. I know trust him because he was putting off work until later in the week and didn't need this additional job. I really appreciate him fitting me in and doing such excellent work. read more

I took my 2006 Honda in for its 30K maintenance. It was done on time and runs a lot smoother. Murph was great to talk to and even better- charged me $266 as opposed to $434 that the dealership wanted- Also told me that my car was in great shape and to not let anyone sell me new brakes or tires! read more

As a loyal customer of Murph and Honda Zone I felt obliged to write a review for him on Yelp. It looks like a lot of folks share some of the same sentiments that I have for this man and his integrity. Simply put, Murph may be one of the most honest people I know. I have placed the complete trust of my vehicle in his care. If he tells me I need something there is no questions asked (or course this comes from years of knowing his prices are cheaper than others). His word is as good as Gold. read more

Meh. It's hard to judge a car shop, because how do I tell if they know what they're talking about, or being honest? But my overall impression of these guys is that they don't exactly exude competence. For example, when I came to pick up the car, one of the guys was standing around drinking a Heineken, and ran to put my spark plug cover back on because the boss hadn't told him I was coming to pick it up that night. Overall I didn't feel like I was in super-competent hands. read more

I would give 6 stars if I could. After 4 separate visits from 4 different AAA technicians today (this is not an exaggeration), my car ends up at Car Zone. Murph diagnosed a bad battery in about 15 minutes, which included swapping the battery with a known-good, and then driving the car around the block. Turns out the battery that was in my car was a AAA battery, replaced 2.5 years ago, with a 3 year warranty. Interestingly, AAA warranties their batteries for 3 years, but only keeps records of such for 18 months. Idiots. Bottom line, it was Murph who spent time troubleshooting, despite the fact that I pay AAA an annual fee, and have a warranty on their battery. AAA finally shows up to the Car Zone garage and changes the battery. Problem solved. My car sat in the Car Zone garage for 4 hours today, and Murph did not charge me one penny. AAA=1 star, Car Zone=6 stars. read more

I have been coming to Carzone for repair more a few times now, ever since 2010. I just haven't got a chance to write about it until now. It's an unbelievable service here. No wait and no fuss. He doesn't make unnecessary repairs and any repairs are reasonably priced.

Murph knows his stuff and has friendly accommodating staff. He will tell you exactly what needs fixed, what can wait and what might be something to keep an eye on in the future. They do a good job showing where/why things need to be repaired and are conscientious of your finances and your safety. Honest, thorough and fair. What more could you want? read more
