It's nestled in a bustling neighborhood and it's the perfect place to grab an after dinner drink, an afternoon happy hour cocktail, or just to go and hang out on a nice day. The Englewood Grand, though offering many different kinds of liquor, is essentially a whiskey bar. The bartenders are super knowledgeable about varieties, brands, and drinks and even have their own house made assortments and mixers. As a Rye drinker, I appreciate that there is an option for happy hour. It's dimly lit and has a prohibition vibe without being stuffy. My 2 most favorite things about this place however, are the selection of music and video that are playing when I come in. There is usually modern punk or alternative playing on the speakers as old black and white films or b-horror movies accompany your visit. Something to try if you haven't yet!

They also have a big back patio that's awesome in warm weather -- I've seen BBQs, live music, food trucks, and even stand-up out there. But, let's take a step back. First of all, the service was PERFECT throughout my visit. Cheryl was my bartender, and gave me efficient, personable, flawless service that elevated my visit. She catered to me, the new customer, and took care of the regulars well, as she obviously knew them all. They had a Voodoo Ranger IPA on tap for me, which made me happy. I was able to get a seat at the bar luckily, and I think you have to be lucky, as the regulars populate them well. Back to the burger. As I said, very simplistic yet tasty. You get chips with it, and a side of onions and pickles. It was worth the trip, and worth being on that list, without a doubt. It is ironic that my darkest lighting in my pics IS the burger-guess I needed a candle lit next to it for a better pic. See what I did there? The bar area is on one side as you come in the door, and the place circles back around to it through the game room. You could technically do bar laps if you wanted to, although that would be a little weird at a dive bar. Pool tables, darts, foosball, and they had some blues rock in the background. God, I love this place…read more It had been a hot minute. I was in the area the other night and already made plans to come here after my work event. Candlelight is one of Denver's best dives and it's not even close. You're greeted by iconic signage, similar to what you see on Colfax. Remember this is Wash Park, so it sticks out more than usual. And I say that as a unwavering compliment. Happy hour deals every day of the week, some of them even lasting through close. Mondays are burger nights and Wednesdays are wing nights. Currently $7 on either of those nights! I haven't had this burger in a long long time. Upon first bite, steaming hot burger juice splattered onto my hand. I still see the burn nearly two days later. Was it worth it? Of course it was. Fluffy bun, melty cheese, and meaty burgerness. A little overcooked for my liking, but you're not making a fuss at a place like this. Prices are shockingly good. Inflation proof! Pool, darts, tv's, all the dive bar staples are here. A $20 bill goes a long way here. Food runs until 11:30pm every night!

The bartenders are friendly and quick, the owners (or one of them) are usually around to shoot the **** with, and the drinks are cheap. Their "specialty" is a pickle shot (in the giant glass jug behind the bar) and if you throw in a few beers, your tab will be $10, and that includes a nice tip. Is the bar fancy? No. But that's part of the appeal. Go in on a weeknight evening and you're bound to walk in during darts league. Don't count on getting a seat or a table if darts is happening. And these guys are good! The crowd is friendly and you can sit at the bar alone without feeling creepy. Winners all around.

The bartender that night was absolutely great. The karaoke DJ (Sexy Jesus Karaoke) was friendly and fair, keeping repeat singers in the queue while adding in new singers as they arrived. Our group had a fantastic time and got to sing several times. The crowd was eclectic, supportive, and full of good singers. The one thing none of our group appreciated was that the front windows were wide open and people smoked outside the entire night. They literally had ashtrays on the windowsill. We all reeked of smoke by the end of the night. Kind of a bummer, and something to consider if you're thinking of going here when it's warm enough to have the windows open.

I think it is a huge plus that a restaurant must be comfortable..I drink coffee after each meal and with this weather some places make my routine impossible. They offered a decent lunch deal of a burger and beer. I eill be back when not on my lunch hour. I had the tinga tacos, PERFECT! The staff has typically recognized us and welcomed us in. But tonight was a mess. We ordered food, and no one had the courtesy to say to us, we have a large party outside, it might be an hour before you get your food. That would have put the ball in our court and legitimately made it our decision. The manager, owner/operator, a gentleman with a shaved head told me it was our fault for not being aware of the situation around us. This all while he busied himself doing shots behind the bar. With all due respect, he did comp our tab, (which was not our goal) and we asked a bartender to ring up $1 so we could tip the staff, which we did. I fear, based on our experience, and after 9 years of loyal patronage, this is likely not our neighborhood pub any longer. Bummer.
