Best dive bar along Leetsdale. Sam's has been a staple in the community for as long as I can remember. Sam's offers good, strong drinks at very reasonable prices. They have lots of bar games as well as a big TV to show the current "big" game of the day. Maybe a good place to drink if you're not black. Drinks are pretty inexpensive but the experience we had was rather unpleasant. The bartender proceeded to mean mug us all night, slam down our bill, didn't check on us at all to see if we wanted another drink- we had to ask numerous times while people next to us were actively being serviced. Plus the bathroom stunk really badly and there was no soap. read more

We went in on a Thursday to watch the Broncos get ripped, dragged and pulled apart. There were maybe 3 other folks in the place. Service was nice. Total dive bar. I almost feel a little bad about not giving it 5 stars, because it doesn't deserve a downward bump. Still, it hasn't got that intangible that moves it to 5 star status, so for now, sorry Sam's... Four it is... Pool tables, limited seating, a juke box, all placed strategically around a big square bar that takes up most of the room. It is the type of place that when you first walk in, you think, "Now here's a bar that MUST have a dollar draft special all the time". Nope. Awesome place! Very laid back. It's kinda like going to Cheers, but everyone doesn't know your name. The wait staff was super friendly and kind and the other customers treated us like fam. The first time I stepped into Sam's was just a few days after my father's suicide in May of 2001... my ex & I really needed an escape from the stress & sadness. It was karaoke night, the bar was filled with friendly faces. We quickly felt welcomed, and enjoyed a night of "cheap therapy" with booze and singing. I love Sam's, from the iconic neon sign, the somewhat ancient decor, the friendly bartenders, particularly Char & Elsie, "Chief" the Chef who is just as much of a fixture there as the juke box, pool tables & Golden Tee game, and Art & Sid, the somewhat intimidating owners who watch over their regulars like fierce Papa Bears... get to know them and you'll find a couple of loveable Teddy bears. That's a photo of their beloved Dad above the bar watching over all. You'll find some decent bar food here, burgers, fries, wings, nachos and a great Italian beef sammie... but if you ask nice, you might get Art to make you his Greek Chicken Wings... which I have dubbed FGGW's for (e)ffin' Good Greek Wings... this is the food of Greek Gods, crispy, lemony, flavor bombs served with a side of cool, creamy tzatziki sauce. Opah! This is my "Cheers," a place where "everyone knows my name," where hugs, jokes, shots, laughter are freely shared and enjoyed. The Friday karaoke night that J.R. use to run, has been passed on to Steve, and he does a great job without hogging the mike as many KJs are compelled to do... so you can expect to sing at least 2 songs and sometimes many more depending on the crowd. Holy awesome green Chile. Just the right amount of spice. Like, really, the stuff is crazy tasty. My New Mexican bestie even agrees, and he's crazy elitist! Otherwise, a typical dive bar (garage!) with a weird Freddie Krueger statue outside (see pic). Would go back for the chile, and the creepy mustachioed man watching me eat and flirt*. Racist!!! My husband and I went there for a drink after a long day at work and were denied to even purchase a drink we ar both well over 22 and have valid ID. There was a older white lady at the bar and she excepted my ID but told him his wasn't valid. And it is!! COMPLETELY valid. Your better off at the bowling alley next door and even there staff is trash!! read more

Went on a Wednesday night and it was pretty quiet, which was cool. They have karaoke on Wednesdays and Fridays, apparently. They also have pool tables and pool leagues --- the latter play on Tuesdays and Thursdays, I think they said. The interior was standard for a dive bar. If you're offended by that kind of thing, don't go. I'm not. I feel way more comfortable at a place like Sam's than say, Elways, which I think is just this side of ridiculous. Anyway, the bartender, Charlene, was friendly and efficient. My cosmopolitan (yes, I order those at dive bars) was just right, and that's what counts, no? There were probably about seven or eight people there, total. I think I popped in around 9pm? So fairly early. I have to mention that nearly each and every person in the place approached me with a genuine welcome. The karaoke guy, the owner, the bartender, the patrons. Nothing pushy; nobody hit on me --- just friendly conversation. A very cool vibe; inclusive, neighborly. I'll definitely be back because of its convenient location and wonderful customers/staff. read more

A true dive. The people giving this place 4-5 stars are messing things up. It's an OK place but not the least bit worthy of a journey. In fact it's completely dead most nights and is still pretty dead on the night's you'd expect people. Smaller venue, smaller space, but so worth it!!! Very personable area and good ambiance. I had a blast bringing my girlfriends here late at night and enjoying a nice cocktail here and there. Nothing much to say, but just to enjoy how small and tiny the place is. The bartenders are also cute, thinking of me and making the most of my drinks. Just moved here three weeks ago and I was looking for a place to do something i love to do, play pool. Not only did I find a great place with Sam's but it's home to some of the most welcoming owners & staff. Beer is low priced, there's a TouchTunes speaker and they always have live sports on. What a dump! Beer was cold (Colorado Native) but not cheap ($4.50). No micro brews here. The regulars were toothless and had ankle bracelets. Wasn't mugged and didn't get into a fight, so life is good. read more

Great little dive bar..reminds me of the hole in the wall places I used to go to in the north woods of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Friday night was Karaoke night. The guy running it looked about 100 years old but he could sing great. The place has a huge Karaoke crowd. The service is great and its a friendly atmosphere. This truly is a dive bar in every sense. Sketchy women's toilet, sketchy patio with weird wooden statue, and sketchy regulars. Went on a Friday night and it was pretty dead. They also offered karaoke. The song selection wasn't bad and the sound was okay. There just weren't a lot of singers. I did try the hot wings and they took forever to come out. The wing sauce needs some work. It tasted like Frank's Red Hot mixed with ketchup. Prices were reasonable. They also have parking. Bartender was really nice. read more

Had a birthday party here for about 50-75 people. We wanted something fun, laid back, and easy. The drinks were flowing, the food selection was all provided by them and awesome (lil' smokies, the best house made green chili, various deli meat wraps cut like sushi roll bites, big cheese platter, meatballs in marinara, garlic crostinis, smoked sausages, etc) and had awesome karaoke all night! It was a fantastic party put together by the owners. Two Denver brothers who are the nicest guys I've ever met. If you're swinging by on a Friday night, they have karaoke. It was my first time in Sam's Diner. This place is well designed, great atmosphere, interesting interior and great place to hang out with your friends or family. I ordered a greek burger with fries and the price was reasonable. I won't say that the burger was the best, but it was pretty good. I would recommend this place to visit at least once. read more

Worst dive bar. Not worth the fee. $9 for a beer and shot of whiskey. My guess is the building is paid up, bartender was so proud of how long they've been around (1954). I expect cheaper fares for a place that had two TVs, Westword, and a day old Denver Post. I'd also be lying if I said the beer was cold. It was not worth my $. read more

I went there for the 1st time this past weekend. If you're a fan of hole in the wall bars, then this is the place for you! I loved it. Super nice staff with reasonably priced drinks. Sam's is far and away the most comfortable place! We skipped out on the in-laws 2 hours early for our flight, and instead of getting to DIA (too early) we stopped at Sam'. Damned near missed our flight! We had such a good time. There were only about 10 peope in there, and you would swear we have known them our entire lives... they were telly family stories, and jokes about each other... just a great place. BEST Gyros you will ever eat unless you actually travel abroad to Greece! The Chief burger is also amazing and the perfect thing to absorb the alcohol at any given point in the night. The owners (they're brothers) Sid and Art are always looking out for their patrons and do well to maintain a presence throughout the night. In the many times I have been there with friends, I have not seen a fight or argument break out, which only goes to say that the staff is on point. This place is a quaint lil bar with good people and great food. The drinks are just as great...and inexpensive! Elsie is my favorite bartender! Chief is a fantastic cook and love his various creations, let alone the fact that if you're super hungry, he'll reopen the kitchen to make you what you want. This place isn't like other bars in the area...everyone is family here and everyone is welcomed. As a woman, I can comfortably go in here alone, knowing there are many who will look out for me. The crowd on any given Friday night (karaoke night) is very diverse in age...20 somethings to 80! This establishment highly respects our military veterans and even the younger patrons have always been supportive. Overall, it's a fun little hangout and happened to stumble upon this "Cheers" type bar in a desperate attempt to find a place where there was good karaoke without an insanely long wait list/ rotation. Rhonda knows how to run a good show and the song selection is expansive with some rare, hard to find songs! My advice to all, is to go in with an open mind, a good attitude, get to know each other, and tip your waitstaff! read more
