This one occupies an end-unit retail space located across from the ridiculously busy Chick-fil-A/Panera/TGI Friday's/IHOP/Potbelly shopping center on Tech Road in a much-less-busier strip of businesses. The parking is a bit tight and small. They have a main entrance and a side entrance around the corner. I dropped off a coat for dry-cleaning on Wednesday 1/29, which cost only $3.50 with tax. The drop-off was easy (arrived around 7 PM so no customers in line) all I had to do with give my phone number and tender payment. I was told the garment would be ready the next day by 5 PM. Pickup was just as easy on Thursday 1/30. The coat was ready, was nice cleaned, and delivered in a plastic sleeve with a giant ZIPS logo on it. The employee was friendly, and the experience overall was great. I'd definitely return. read more

UPDATE: Zips on Tech Road responded to my review with a story that doesn't match reality, so here are the facts. The attached photo shows the same broken zipper they claim they "tested," "adjusted," and found "functioning properly." One look at it shows the truth -- the zipper was never replaced or repaired. Nothing was done. My receipt clearly lists ALTERATION - ZIPPER - $25, plus their usual "TRY TO RECLEAN" note they use when they don't want to issue refunds. They also claim the tag "did not match." Interesting, because Nasir S. argued with his own seamstress in front of me and said the ticket DID match and the zipper had NOT been done -- until I returned and the tag had magically changed. Their story only changed after the tag changed. They say they "reviewed all solutions." In reality, a female employee handed me her personal pink cell phone because Nasir refused to come out. On that call, he said they were not fixing it and not refunding it. Yet that never made it into their public reply. Other Yelp reviews show the same pattern: clothes returned uncleaned, work undone, excuses instead of service. When they publicly lie, they forget I have photos, receipts, and a memory -- and I have all three. Zips is extremely affordable. Dry cleaning for women's clothes can be expensive, so it always surprises me how cheap it is as I take my and my wife's clothes there. Cheap doesn't always mean better, but I can say it is no different than the boutique cleaners that I have used in the past. They also have a stitch person as well, who I have used to hem pants and sew buttons. She isn't there all the time, so I would call ahead to know when she will be there in case you need something hemmed. She may come once or twice a week. Highly recommended! read more

Zips lost two of my coats, and the night-shift employee never informed the manager, despite saying she would. When I called the next morning, the manager had no idea. Thankfully, he was thorough, professional, and found my coats within five minutes--they were under the wrong number. I truly appreciate his great service. When I picked up my items that evening, I saw the night-shift employee in the back and asked for her name. She refused and said, "You left your review, you spoke to the manager, I don't have to give you my name." I found this extremely rude and unprofessional. Instead of apologizing for the inconvenience, she was more focused on the review than the customer. It was also very telling that she knew exactly who I was. They tore a string and toggle off of my jacket. They could have tucked it in. But didn't even try. I was told the manager was gonna call me but no one called me and then they don't answer the phone when you call. Then I drove back there and they told me they don't answer the phone. I delivered and paid to have three of my favorite black shirts laundered with light starch. After picking them up and placing them in my closet in the Zip's plastic, I decided to wear one a few days later and noticed several light stains on each of them. I returned them to be re-laundered. After retrieving them a week later, all three black shirts had the same or other similar stains. The shirts also did not seemed to be sufficiently pressed. This also was not the first time I have experiened problems with this cleaner's services. read more

I'm curious to know how they actually dry clean the clothes, because this has never happened before when I have taken them to the dry cleaners. I dropped my clothes at Zip cleaners on Tech Road in Silver Spring, and when I went to pick up my clothes, they had lost the belt, and the employee there looked in the computer and noted that I did bring the belt in along with the dress, but asked me to call the manager the next day. I called back the next day and Nasir, the manager picked up and gave me another story that he didn't see in the system that I brought my dress with the belt. When I said to him that the previous employee had validated my belt received by the cleaners, his response was "he is just a cashier and doesn't know" wow, so unprofessional of him to say that about his employee. Anyways, he went on arguing with me because I questioned him as to why he addressed his employee as "just a cashier." My issue wasn't resolved because he threatened to hang up on m, eventually hung up on me. read more

I was very skeptical of trying ZIPS out based on the low-star reviews. However, I took a risk and decided to try them out for seven pieces: two dresses and five blazers. Any garment is $2.79, comforters are around $20. My blazers and dresses turned out good and I will be trying them again. read more

I dropped off over 20 pieces of items and half of them has a sticker saying wet cleaning recommended " and they're still dirty. The once without the tag also still dirty and they just put on back in the hanger. I'm really disappointed with the service I received and I don't think they will help me fix my issues so will never go back. read more

DON'T TAKE YOUR CLOTHES HERE!! For the second time (I foolishly forgot about the last incident and returned to the scene of the crime), I took something of mine here only to pick up an item of a totally different color!! Damaged clothing is not worth the price. Told me to bring the item back in so they can send to an independent organization to see if it was the fabric that was the cause. (they have cleaned this same top before without issue) I doubt anything will be done but I will go ahead and do it because you just can't damage someone's clothing and not have any responsibility! I dropped off a pair of white beautiful pants that I recently did a photo shoot in. The bottoms had some dirt stains from walking up and down the area I was at and I figured dry cleaning would be my best option since they are delicate. Today I went to pick up my pants, before leaving I only checked the bottoms because that was where the dirt stains were at. I figured everything else would be fine, that is till I got home and took it out of the plastic bag completely. To my surprise, the entire hem of my pants are ruined. Looks like somebody just ran it through a dryer or something. I understand that things happen and maybe the material couldn't handle dry cleaning but to sneak it in the bag with no note or apology is what pisses me off. Honesty is all I ask for and sneaky behaviors rub me the wrong way so I will most likely be doing my dry cleaning elsewhere moving forward. And while I'm here. Months again, i walked into this same location and saw that they had an "Alterations' lady. I had an antique skirt that I had recently purchased a few sizes too big. I told her that I wanted her to bring in the skirt to fit me tighter and more like a pencil skirt. While there I slid the skirt over me thinking she would take measurements so she knew what size to take it down to. She didn't...she measure with her eyes and rushed me out the door telling me she understood what I wanted and would make it happen. Well call me a clown for falling for that... When I went to pick up my skirt, she wasn't there that day and left it with the dry cleaning staff. Long story short, the skirt is still way to big and most definitely does not fit me like a pencil skirt. I will NOT be getting alterations from her ever again. She charged a hefty price for my so called " alterations" too. Lesson truly learned this time. read more

Can I give negative five stars for this location of ZIPS? I usually take my clothing to the ZIPS IN Temple Hills but I got tired of the gratuitous use of foul language while being served there. While I received curse-free service at the Tech Rd. location, my clothing also came back to me in a stain-filled mess. A purple silk Banana Republic (BR)dress came back with stains that it did not come in with, a raincoat looked as if they not only didn't clean it but they also decided to ball it up and play catch with it...same with a yellow BR blazer. A black BR dress was actually wet because someone decided that putting it in the wash was a great idea. I was asked to give them a chance to correct there mistakes and so I left my clothing for them to fix. While the purple dress came back ok, the yellow blazer now had bluish-purple fingerprints at the shoulder and neck. The black dress was not only safety pinned at its pleated shoulders to a hanger with GINORMOUS safety pins, which left the shoulders with large holes and awkwardly shaped, there was now some sort of white residue all over the dress and under the armpits. I was asked to leave my clothing again to give them another chance. Unfortunately my trust for ZIPS with my irreplaceable and relatively expensive clothing is nonexistent. The refund of $10 and some change does nothing when the items they've damaged total over $300. I'm sorry, but this is unforgivable! I will never use this chain of dry cleaners again. Okay, I read so many bad reviews but I said to myself give them a try whats the worst that can happen!?! I took about three suits and four shirts to this zips. I should have taken the hint when I arrived and saw a couple arguing about them losing a few items of clothes. But I still had hope for this little chain of cleaners. I picked up my suits and wore my black suit last Sunday. It was all good until I went to put on the jacket and it still had a stain on the front of the jacket. I was so embarrassed and I went into the bathroom to scrub it off. Needless to say, I won't entrust them with my suits again. I've used this establishment for a number of years. Dry cleaning was fair, but not excellent. Now, I took in a comforter for seasonal cleaning, as I've done for the past 6 years. This time it was brought to me with scattered rust colored specks on a number of the surfaces. The first manager told me that the stain emanated from inside the comforter, which could not be true as it was not brought to them with stains. They kept the item for a second cleaning and the spots did not come out. This time the manager didn't come out to speak with me and I was told that the owner rarely came to the store. They would not try cleaning again for fear that the comforter would be damaged. I told them to keep it and I will speak with the Montgomery County Office of Consumer Affairs. I'm concerned about the origin of these spots and am afraid to bring the item into my house. read more

I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt so I tried it again. I brought in 8 Calvin Klein dresses I pointed out that the white one had a stain "would you be able to take the stain out?" The young lady that rung me up said "yes." I asked because I know a cleaners by my house would be capable of doing it because I've always used them in the past but since the ZIPS is on my way to work it was more convenient for me to drop off and pick up. However not only I paid for the service but the stain is still there! They put a note on there that they are not able to remove the stain which is ridiculous because I asked prior. Also, one of my navy blue dress he bottom seamed is completely out and now it needs to be hemmed. I wear my dress to work so clearly I know I was not walking around with a dress not hemmed on the bottom. Besides Calvin Klein brand speaks for itself. I am very disappointed, I would not go back nor do I recommend anyone using them for high quality apparel! Lame! Don't bring your good clothes here! Bring them to French's in DC! My son's silk uniform, ordered from China and used only for martial arts tournaments, acquired food/oil stains, likely due to well-deserved special event treats and fooling around! Anyway, I took it to Zips, taking time to point out the spots so they could give them extra attention. They tried twice and only succeeded in adding what looked like water marks around the original stains! One would think that a company that does so much volume would have figured out how to take care of any kind of stain by now! Lame! I then consulted with YELP and found French's. I came in after their first attempt and they explained they tried one method that didn't work, wanted to try another method, but needed my permission first. Since the uniform was already ruined by Zips, I went ahead and let them have another go. The uniform now looks like new!!! read more

Ok, they get it right most of the time, but when they get it wrong, they overlook or hide their errors, don't tell the truth about it, change their story, and take weeks to resolve it. It's bad enough that any garment with the "Sorry" tag on it will always be wedged in between the others so you need to check before you leave the store. But when they lose or ruin a garment, they never tell me. I have to count the items and check them to see if they are all there and not ruined. The latest episode was a BRAND NEW poly/spandex sheath dress I wore standing at a podium for 6 hours - not exactly dirty, or hard to clean, but I wanted it fresh for Mother's Day. I picked it up Friday and took it home without checking till Saturday. It was ruined - snags all over the front and lighter ones in back. Whatever garment they added to the load probably ruined everything it touched. I returned it, and they promised to investigate it and told me to come back the next business day. I returned Monday, the DUE date on the receipt. Even though it have a large ticket on it that said MANAGER, they had run it through the harsh chemicals again for no reason and bagged it up for me to take. I had to hold my place in line and INSIST on talking to the manager for 5 minutes or more until they agreed to call him. By the way, the manager disappears every day after 4:30, when people are getting off work to get their dry cleaning and find the damage. Finally they call and he says it will take up to TWO WEEKS for the "investigator" to look at the dress. How can anyone look at the dress if they've cleaned it again and given it to me to take home? The last time this ZIPS ruined a favorite shirt, I agreed to take the cost of the garment, minus wear-and-tear, in ZIPS credit. But this dress had no wear and tear, and it cost me $170 to replace it; which I could not do in time for Mother's Day. Get ready for an update where they offer me a lousy week of free dry cleaning instead. To be fair, I haven't had a real problem until today. I'm not giving 1 star for the cleaning job, the rip in the pants which now I have to replace on my own dime, or the suit that now I have to leave at home instead of taking out of town with me. I'm giving 1 star for the implication the cashier made that I was (a) a liar and (b) a thief in front of other customers and employees. I just spent the last two days back and forth with RIPS Dry Cleaners. I had a suit and a couple of shirts cleaned there. I've never had an issue with the quality of the clean, the price has been good and their turnaround time was good so thats why I've always used them. However, on this particular occasion, I arrived to pick up my suit and shirts to discover that I had a rip in the suit pants. I've only warn this particular suit on 2 maybe 3 occasions since I got it. I lifted the plastic covering on pickup day and found that my pants had been ripped. I immediately alerted the cashier. She offered to hold them and have a manager look at them and repair them. The cashier logged my information and I guess had them cleaned again? I was leaving the country the next day so I told them I needed them before then. At the time i was so surprised by the rip I thought maybe they could be patched or sewed, but a rip like that in the spot that it was was not going to ever look right. So i guess the pants from my $300 suit are ruined. I went back today to discuss this further and see what they would do about it. Apparently nothing except try and patch it. They offered to send it to some "Lab" where they analyze rips and can some how tell if it was done by me or the company... not sure how that works out. I declined because it was going to take a week. After explaining to me this was an "unusual" rip and they were not going to take any responsibility for it because it's not in a spot they "usually" rip, which was concerning in and of itself to hear, the cashier then did something I was not prepared for at all.... He said "So... when you checked you just 'happened' to check the suit pants and 'happened' to find a rip, right?" -- woah, ok so you don't know me and you just implied that I brought these ripped pants in to have the company replace them. I replied that "I always check my garments when I pick them up from here." He said, ok, one moment. He returned after 5-10 minutes and then said, so you checked your shirts and suit before you left? I said "yes" -- I guess that wasn't the right answer because then he told me, "well, no you didn't, because on the video surveillance you went straight for the pants." (I mean there are two sets of items on the rack, you have to start with one, and the one I started with was my expensive suit, it was then I discovered the rip) At that point I was so totally flabbergasted I had just been rewound on the security tapes as if I was some sort of thief catching me in the act on some minute technical detail like the order which I had checked my clothes. I pretty much just didn't have anything left to say at that point, and I stormed out. I knew I was being interrogated and that this was the end of any progress in the conversation, in this managers mind I was a liar and a thief. This began the end of a long standing relationship with RIPS. I just have never been so insulted in my life and I couldn't let it go undocumented. I just have never been humiliated by a company or it's staff before. The rip was bad but the feeling of being viewed as a liar and a thief is not one I will soon forget. So, I've been coming to this location every weekend for about a year or so now and have never really had any issues! Today however, was a very different situation!! One that needs to be expeditiously felt with!!! I walk in about 11:45am and see a lone customer (Black Make) being served at the counter!! 1 customer 1 counter right? I see many people in the back ground working and this young Latin girl looks up, makes eye contact with me and then looks down and continues to work! As a retail manager my first thought was, "OK, so her task must out weigh serving Zips Cleaners" and just shook my head! Two minutes later the black gentleman's business is completed and O approach the counter!! At that very same moment a white woman walks in and the little Latin (Spanish) girl literally "SPRINTED TO THE COUNTER" and asks her, "Can I help you" as my attendant was asking likewise!! I completed my transaction and waited to have a brief teachable moment with the young girl! Once the white woman's transaction was complete, I very gently said to her, "You may not even be aware of the obvious bias that you just showed to that white woman but, please know that your actions actually promulgate racism in the eyes of people of color!" You looked right in my eyes and turned your face!! BUT, SPRINTED to help her!! AS SHE TURNED BER BACK TO ME SHE SAID, " I'm Not A Racist, I'M JUST DOING WHAT I WAS TOLD TO DO!! Ok , ZIPS: As A Regular Customer I Need You To Explain This Chicanery!!! Is That How You Are Training Your Employees?? Is That Your SOP?? They need to "ZIP" this place closed because they mess up your garments for 1.99 Took my sons wool jacket to get cleaned and I got it back with a missing button. The button is hard to get because the jackets from London Oh and get this when you call to make a complaint, the telephone number is a automated message. Wish I could give zero star. Took an item for alteration, it is placed in the same bag as dirty clothes to be cleaned, not hygienic especially during COVID. Alteration was a total mess, one leg was longer than the other. Called the store and the resolution they had was to hang up the phone. read more

I just moved to silver spring and was looking for a good dry cleaners, after reviewing previous reviews, I thought i'd give it a try. The price was extremely cheap and I was a little skeptical about the quality. It turns out that weird sensation in my gut was not from the lunch, but my natural instinct saying don't do it. All the items I had dry cleaned were not iron pressed properly, all the shirts had wrinkles, one of the shirt looked like someone left the iron on it for a wee-bit too long. I have been there twice. The first time to get a suit cleaned. The light grey pants had a tiny line from an ink pen mark that I could have gotten out with a little water and soap, so I figured dry cleaning would get it no problem. NOPE. And not only that, they had double creased the pants! Ugh! The second time, I took a suit jacket that wasn't dirty, it just had slightly stinky armpits and I specifically told them the armpits needed deodorized, the guy wrote down (unknown to me) "clean arms." The jacket came back, still had stinky armpits. It's like they don't actually clean the garments! What is the point of paying them money if my clothes don't actually get cleaned!?!?
