Hooray for my first Yelp review, but boo to one headache of an experience. Yelpers beware: you're in for a long review. Kudos to you if ya get through this entire post!
After a dry cleaning hiatus of about a year or so, I finally returned to Cleaners Max. To my surprise, this establishment was under new management. Sure, the prices went up a little bit, and the walls are now painted neon green, but not too much else has changed, right? WRONG.
When dropping off my dry cleaning (16 pieces in all), I had specific instructions for several of the garments: please fold and place inside bags. Imagine my disappointment when I picked up my dry cleaning to see that the clothes were not folded, but instead hanging in the garment bags (despite my clear instructions and the note on the ticket). The owner offered to have them folded, but I'd have to pick the garments up the following day. Meh, no thanks. In addition, the clerk who rang me up charged me for two extra items that I did not bring in. Mistakes happen, not a big deal. The owner stated he would give me store credit in the amount of $3.98 (this vital piece of information will come into play later on).
The next morning, I took out a pair of black pants I got back from the cleaners. However, something was missing... the crease! Y'know, the one that runs down the center of pant legs? Oh well, not the end of the world. A few days later, I pulled out a dark blue skirt that had been cleaned. The skirt looked different. It took a moment for me to realize what it was-- the hem came undone. I then proceeded to take out the rest of my garments. To my dismay, the clasps on the skirt and jacket of my suit were bent out of shape. This was the last straw.
I went back to Cleaners Max in hopes of ameliorating the situation. Dear fellow Yelpers, I wish I could tell you that the employee and owner I spoke with were so helpful and understanding of the issues I had, but unfortunately, that was NOT the case. I'll spare you the conversation I had with the female clerk and skip to the interaction I had with the owner. As the owner reviewed my job order on the computer screen, he told me I owed him $3.98. No, Sir. You actually owe me this dollar amount. The owner was very adamant about me owing him the $3.98. Thankfully, the clerk who overcharged me was in the store and could vouch on my behalf.
I proceeded to explain my dry cleaning dilemma to the owner, and he immediately got SUPER defensive telling me that his store would not pull the hem out of my skirt. I calmly replied, "I know you would not deliberately pull the hem out, but it did come undone at your establishment." Again, he got defensive and proceeded to pull a shirt off the rack to show me a hole that had been steamed through it. Apparently, that was considered a "deliberate" mistake. Regardless of whether or not it was deliberate, I feel that an establishment should do whatever it can to make amends. I was informed that the seamstress would be in on Thursday, and I would need to pay $8 to have my hem fixed. You're kidding, right? The hem of my skirt came out while you/ your employees worked on it, and you want ME to pay to have it fixed? That's absurd! Furthermore, I asked for the overcharge of $3.98 to be refunded to my credit card (there was no way I was ever going back to Cleaners Max again), and the owner REFUSED.
Take heed, fellow Yelpers, and save yourselves time, energy, and money by taking your patronage elsewhere. If only I had read the reviews beforehand.... read more
