I shipped a car from Florida to California with ZipAutoShip and dealt with the founder Josh directly. Short Version: He was with me every step of the way, and was very diligent and transparent in explaining the whole process. The car arrived in California without a dent. Long Version: Understand that 99% of shippers who quote you aggressively on shipping your vehicle are brokers. Including Josh, to which he clearly told me 5 minutes into the phone conversation. These auto brokers connect you with the actual shipper, and receive a fee for matching you with a reputable shipper, as well as making sure the whole process is smooth. It is very rare that the person speaking with you on the phone is also the same company that is physically moving your car. With Josh, he: - looked for shipper with a 100% rating (no exceptions) - looked for a shipper with valid cargo insurance (1 million in my case) - charged a flat fee - helps you negotiate a reasonable shipping fee with the shippers - was available at every checkpoint and responded promptly Just to compare, most other brokers: - will not charge you a flat fee (instead, they have best interests to give the shipper guys least money possible, to take more cut) - are more lax with choosing a cheaper shipper that is less than 100% rating/insurance validity - charge you immediately: you will have no recourse if the shipper decides not to show up, and are completely reliant on the broker to reschedule for you A good analogy would be: Would you buy a house where the broker/realtor doesn't breakdown to you what the cost of actual fees vs actual house. versus would you buy a house where broker/realtor charged flat %, so you know the rest of your budget is for the actual product. At the end of the day, Josh was transparent in the beginning about his role in this shipping process, very efficient in keeping you up to date with documentation, very reassuring in the whole process, and connected me to a wonderful shipper. I initially booked my car to be shipped with Montway; however they had failed to find me a trucker to ship my car on the dates they promised. I entered the auto transport industry with no knowledge or awareness of how it works. After putting out a few requests for quotes, I quickly learned that the industry is very competitive and that finding a broker to work with who you can trust is instrumental. This led me to look at reviews and so I chose Josh at Zip Auto Ship based on his reliable track record. Josh delivered immediately, finding a solution to transport our car within a day. This was excellent. I had been told by others that this would not be possible. I believe I got a very fair price for the transport itself (to ensure that it actually got executed - there is a tipping point between getting a good price and getting the shipping actually done!). Josh got paid a broker fee, which is very important, as the broker is essential to getting the job done well, and I feared a bit those who would sacrifice their broker fee entirely to get you a better price. Then they may not have the bandwidth to really advocate on your behalf. So I viewed Josh's strategic decision to not negotiate his broker fee as an actual plus. Josh was excellent at educating, answering questions, and being there whenever needed. He was professional, flexible, and patient with me as I got the payment made to him (I botched up, so it was not as immediate as it should have been). The trucker allowed me to pay online, which was very helpful. The trucker and his manager had some difficulty communicating effectively around the timing of their pick-up (out of Josh's hands), due to some unforeseen circumstances with a flat tire. This caused a few hours delay on the pick-up side, but we were able to meet in a convenient location and get the car picked up, which was the most important. The trucker, Pedro, was a genuinely nice and hard-working person. Our car was delivered across the country (from San Rafael to Boston) in 4 days!! This was incredibly fast. We didn't get much notice on the delivery side that he was close - it came much faster than we expected! Again, it all worked out, and the most important was getting the job done. I know Josh, the owner, told me not to write a review until the I receive the car. However, I can not contain my gratitude. This is the first time I am having a car shipped. I knew nothing about shipping cars, but Josh went out of his way to help me. Not only did he split the cost of the shipment up from the cost of him finding me a car he did it at an exceptional rate.
