Two words: no communication. Firstly, our chain snapped about 5 miles in, we called 5 times , no answer, left 3 separate messages , we had to leave the bike and our friend on his own while we rode back to the shop to finally get "help", in which we waited 45 minutes for someone to come help. While trying to speak to the manager she was extremely rude and said we should stop being "so worried about our trip", and come back at 6:00 to "yell at her then " . We were as polite as we could in the situation and the staff just made it worse. Do yourself a favor and go to another place to rent bikes . Several others in the park overheard our situation and said this has been a recent problem in the last few months. Do better read more

In Zion for a friends birthday. We had an amazing day up at Gooseberry Mesa with our guide Sarah. She worked with us to show us some pointers on the bikes and then we were off to ride slickrock and several very challenging trails. She dropped us off on the Jem trail to finish. The bikes, guide and whole experience were fantastic. Scott is the shop owner and was easy to work with. Great little shop! Was in n out rather quickly. Gentlemen that worked on Memorial Day was friendly and accommodating. We rented bikes for half the day to ride through Zion instead of shuttle. great experience renting bikes for our Zion trip. Shuttles were not running and you do not want to walk....really. Bikes are the best way to access the park. If you are riding in from Springdale, recommend the electric bike, but if you are staying in the park, the touring bike works great. Will rent again next time we are in Zion! Staff was super friendly/helpful & bike was reliable but rental was a little overpriced. There are only two options - 4 hours or full day at 10 hours. Suggest shopping around for better deals. All in all, nothing to complain about re: the bike except the fees. They also charge extra for "bike insurance" and a flat tire kit..for the amount I paid I would expect the flat tire kit to be included. read more

I don't want to say Zion Cycles saved our trip to Zion National Park, but it came close. The ebikes they have in stock made it possible to travel up into canyon while limitations are in place with no shuttles running. The bikes were great and we were able to bike the whole uphill climb assisted by the electric motors, and get back comfortably. If you can't get a reservation it's still possible to get a bike through the early morning lottery. Don't show up later than 7:30, that's what we did and we were second in line. Let's start this off by saying I don't mountain bike ever... I'm not what you would call an outdoorsy kinda gal. I prefer room service, a massage & some champagne on a weekend getaway. But with that said this trip was all about someone else, my mom :) My mom loves being outdoors, mountains & her favorite activity ever, biking. When she begged me to mountain bike in Zion I really was hoping there wouldn't be any rental bikes available but this place was. I knew I was in trouble... The two men working here were so nice. They explained everything, went above & beyond to make sure the both of us were good to go. I got on my bike and paddled away being in pain from the first minute. If you're out of shape prepare to be in serious discomfort. Seeing my mom happier then ever before I just kept paddling and told myself to suck it up & deal with my sore ass later. My mom loved every second of this experience and even though it was physically exhausting for me I loved seeing her smile. I also need to add that if I was in better shape I would have appreciated my bike so much more. It's time to get into the gym... If you're a bike person this place will have you covered & is very affordable. We paid $60 for the both of us for 7 hours. My mom could have biked all day... read more

We visited Springdale for a mountain bike trip where we hit most of the major stops in the area; Gooseberry Mesa, Jem, Church Rock, etc. Zion Cycles was just down the road from our hotel, so we stopped by for input on the trails, and were really blown away by the shop. The shop itself is pretty small, but that area is packed with more quality parts than you might find in a much larger shop. One of my riding buddies had his SRAM X.0 shifter give up on him on the first day of riding, and Freddy got him taken care and back on the trails of in about a half hour! Freddy and Regina are great, and the other guy who works in the shop (Bill?) had an IMMENSE amount of knowledge of the local trails and conditions. After our experience with Zion Cycles, we were sad to leave such a wonderful shop behind. Update 9/2013 - just got back from our fourth trip to Springdale for mountain biking, and love this shop as much as ever. It still amazes me how a shop with a main area the size of a small one-car garage can stock absolutely everything you might need to keep your bike running in tip-top shape for an entire vacation, when shops 10x the size can't be bothered to stock half as many things. Their rental fleet remains utterly top-notch, and their service and knowledge is still simply unparalleled. I just wish this place wasn't two time zones away from me. read more

It's been about 10 years since my husband and I biked. We came into the shop really nervous but wanted to rent bikes to take an easy day from hiking. We asked to rent two bikes and a carrier (one year old with us). I believe the person who helped us was named Steve. He picked out two bikes for us and sent us on our way.It was the highlight of our trip. We had so much fun biking through the park. We paid an extra fee to do late drop offs. I rented from them a turner sultan back in 2009, and really got professional service. Loved the bike I rented. They were fast, very helpful with giving tips on where to ride. Recently, (2012) I was in St George and broke my rear deralileur and hanger. I called up their shop, they had a large selection of rear derailleurs hangers, and were able to tell me over the phone whether they had what I needed. My bike was a brand they did not carry in the store. Then, they reinstalled while I waited. All the whole time listening to me asking questions about how to set up the chain/ derailleur etc while he was doing it. Very friendly professional and did a great job. Anytime I come to St George, I try to do business with them if I need something bike related. read more

I discovered this fantastic bike shop in 2004. A friend and I met in Springdale to hike the Zion Canyon Narrows. We had some time to kill before we could get a permit, so we decided to do some biking. I had a bike, but my friend needed to rent one. When you rent a bike from Fred at Zion Cycles, you feel like your bike adventure is the most important thing to him in that moment. He patiently explains the brakes and shifters, offers route advice, makes sure your helmet fits. He picks the right sized bike and adjusts the seat height perfectly, on the first try. My friend was so impressed with the fit of the rental bike that he bought one in the end-of-season rental sale. (The way Fred boxed and shipped it was factory perfect, too.) Also on that trip, that I discovered what an amazing bike mechanic Fred is. Like the best I've ever seen. My bike had a tendency to throw its chain when shifting into low gear. Three other bike shops I'd taken it to said it was a design flaw. Fred fixed it. Now, eight years later, I often make the trip from LA to Springdale to get my bike tuned up (well, and to be in Zion, of course!). I bought a Gary Fisher Mtn. bike from Zion Cycles which Fred has helped me turn into the ideal city/commuter bike by shipping me slick tires--which I ordered via email. Everyone who works at Zion Cycles is friendly, knowledgeable and loves bikes. They just want you to have fun. If you haven't been on a bike since high school but want to ride the Pa'rus trail, or you want to try a 29er and hit Gooseberry Mesa, they treat you the same. Every business that wants to be successful should be run like this. I had my own bike and didn't rent from them, yet they still treated me as if I was a valuable customer. I met the owner and his wife when I came into town from Denver. I was on vacation with my wife (not a biker) and wanted to find some trails that I could ride in the morning while my wife was still getting up and going in the morning. They were SO incredibly helpful and friendly! She took the time to pull out a map and go over trails and options and explain how to get there. It was really great. I am not a terribly skilled mt. biker, so my one statement was, "I want to go on a ride where I DO NOT GET HURT". She was able to make me feel comfortable that this trail was a perfect fit for my skill level and didn't make me feel inadequate regarding my skill level. The trail she recommended was JEM and it was PERFECT! One of the most enjoyable experiences I have ever had on a bike. After my first day or riding, my tires seemed a bit low on air, but as I had just had tubeless tires the week before, I didn't know exactly what pressure they should be at. I went in a second time, and they were really friendly again and discussed my tire pressure and even put air in them for me without charging me a dime. My only regret is that I only bought a magazine from them, and didn't support their business more. Just flat out good human beings. read more

These guys saved my trip to Zion. I rolled into ZNP around noon, pulled my bike off my rack, got everything ready, then started my ride up to Temple of Sinawava. I didn't even make it thirty feet when my entire crank assembly fell off. I was floored...never had that happen. The crank bolt was nowhere to be found so must have come off somewhere along the 1,100 mile drive. Zion Cycles was the only local bike shop we could find with full services. I rolled the bike over to their place--they were crazy busy with rentals, but after some trial and error managed to find me a crank bolt that fit my bike. read more

Zion Cycles is a model for how anyone should run a business. Honest, friendly, informative and just good people. While staying a few days in Zion, I wanted to get some good riding in with my sons. Our first trip into the shop was to get some advice on where to go for mountain biking. The owner, Fred shared maps, information and great advice for options that would work for us. Our two subsequent trips were to see about repairs on three of our bikes. Fred's knowledge and advice were excellent. He repaired all three bikes, including a faulty hydraulic break, misaligned wheels and a seat post that wouldn't hold. The cost for the repairs was silly - I couldn't believe how reasonable they were. It's rare that I'm immediately compelled to Yelp a business, but when I found Zion cycles on here, it wasn't a surprise to see all 5 star ratings. I don't know what happened to "David T." (the one bad rating), but it had to be an anomaly. I wish I had Zion Cycles located in my neck of the woods. read more

We have recently started the tradition of biking during many of our family vacations, especially those to the national parks. Even though this is a pretty common activity, some of the bike shops are not as professional as others. This was where Zion Cycles got it right. They were a knowledgeable staff who clearly were bikers themselves. At the same time, they did not come off as arrogant or elitist. They were able to select the appropriate gear for every rider in our party of four. It is worth saying that I have never, in my life, had a bike helmet fit me so nicely! These guys are great! We rented hybrid bikes to ride up and down the canyon (i.e. to the Narrows and back). This is a GREAT family activity, as you can take the bikes on the Zion shuttle buses on the way up if you don't want to ride the whole way. Then, the way down is mostly downhill and not a lot of traffic on the road. The bikes were great, the customer service was top notch, and the prices reasonable. On vacation in Zion, we stopped by a "visitor's center" to ask about bike rentals and were told to go to Zion outfitters, with instructions to take a bus down about 1.5 miles. We wanted the exercise so we started walking and found this Zion Cycles shop and stopped to see if they rented. Turns out that what we thought was the visitor's center is a for-profit business paid by shops like Zion Outfitters to divert unsuspecting patrons to them. We rented two quality road bikes, helmets and a lock from Colby and couldn't be more pleased! Fair price and helpful employees... 10/10 would recommend!!! read more

Be sure to read your waiver. If you get a malfunction or have a flat tire and are stuck with no service and no way to ride the bike, they provide no help. Even when you find a way to get back to the bike store, they could careless. I had a flat tire and wasn't able to ride back therefore my boyfriend wasn't even able to and it turned a fun day into a terrible time. I don't recommend renting from this place. read more
