Tan tan kale noodles, spicy ahi roll, giant wasabi tempura
    Elyse W.

Izakaya spot! It is on the pricier side but I enjoyed all the food here. Atmosphere and service was an also a 10/10. It is a great place to celebrate birthdays (ring light photos, sparklers, flower candle, 10% off) where they made the experience so fun! Only downside is that the parking garage is a walk away, but they do validate. Be sure to get the super secret menu giant drinks. They show you pictures of daily specials which is very helpful. It is also easy to make a reservation since they're on Open Table. My favorite dishes were the tan tan kale noodles (bouncy texture!) and giant wasabi shrimp tempura.

Excellent Izakaya with the chef testing menu. We had the fresh sashimi plate, husband, and kids got the cut the Wagyu beef, and beef tenderloin tasting menu. The sashimi was fresh delicious and came with various fish salmon. My favorite was the Hamachi. Ahi and scallops were delicious as well. Kids got the beef tasting menu with the Wagyu tenderloin and strip steak. They enjoyed. Service was outstanding ambience, quiet and lovely. 10 out of 10.

We had reservations for 7pm arrived at 6:36 and they sat us right away. Our server Candice was awesome!!! We ordered the watercress salad, mushroom tempura, ahi cutlet, Zigu roll, A5 wagyu yakiniku and dessert. Everything came out pretty quick and tasted really good. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Loved the outdoor vibe and place gets pretty busy, they can accommodate big parties too, there were 2 parties of about 12 people each.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] When I ordered the dessert I asked Candice if they could write happy anniversary she said they couldn't do that but she could do better and comp it, so nice of them! The haupia anmitsu was really light and refreshing. Thank you Zigu for a wonderful anniversary dinner! Would definitely come back!

We came here for our wedding anniversary dinner and went during happy hour. They make the food so fast! We got the edamame, pickled onion, mochiko chicken with smoked mayo, spicy salmon roll, blue fin tuna trio & A5 Wagyu & uni roll. We didn't read the menu and the spicy salmon roll had Mac nuts and cilantro which I did not care for. Also for the rolls they are on top of the roll not inside. But everything was delicious. And our server David was top tier! He showed us pictures of the specials which my husband is a big picture person so he loved that and David even had a light and offered to take our picture. David went above and beyond and even gave us hot tea at the end of the meal. His service is top notch! My only negative comment is the hostess. When we walked up she was on her phone and didn't even say hi or welcome. And then she asked if we wanted to sit at the bar and I asked if you had to sit at the bar to do happy hour and she said no, so I asked for a table and she tells us oh ok one moment. And then when we left she didn't say bye or have a good night, but a different server did. Then I forgot to get validation and I said sorry I forgot to ask for validation and she goes "I'm sorry?" And so I asked her again if I could get validation. Maybe you shouldn't be a hostess if you're gonna be so rude.

    Welcoming isakaya with casual vibes.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Welcoming and friendly isakaya.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Casual and relaxed atmosphere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food was really good. Had the wagyu which was super delicious. Drinks were good too. This was a hidden gem for us. Would come back again.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]We had our Father's Day dinner here and it was pretty busy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]There is indoor and outdoor seating areas.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It had a chill vibe, casual dining type of setting.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I did book our reservation in advance on OpenTable. We parked across the way at Hyatt Centric Hotel and parking was free so don't forget your validation. Despite how busy they were our waitress was very attentive and kept filling our cups with water. All the food we ate was delicious. We ordered miso salmon, local egg rolled omelet, mochiko chicken, shrimp and local vegetable tempura, seared salmon, A5 wagyu yakiniku....pretty much a lot and we didn't get to finish because we were so full. Would I come here again yes even if I have to drive to Waikiki again lol.

    HH menu 2/2026

Zigu was fantastic! Went for happy hour--the items on the HH menu are generally $2-3 less than regular price, so you save more on the cheaper items. Everything was delicious. - spicy edamame: good balance of spicy and sweet, had a nice kick - cucumber salad: nothing special, but refreshing and tasty. Generous portion - spicy chilled soba was fun--it was not spicy to me, but I liked the taste. It has multiple components to mud together: nicely seasoned ground pork, tempura, fried garlic, seaweed, and topped with raw egg yolk - mochiko fried chicken--big pieces of dark meat (my preference), hot and crispy, dipping sauce was smoky and I liked the pickled radish in it - kampachi nigiri--on the specials board, $10/2 pieces. Delicious with good amount of fish, from the kampachi farm in Kona Service was attentive and informative. The waiter even has a light to help you take better photos, it makes a big difference! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The covered patio was very comfortable and a nice place for a chill, delicious dinner.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Food was delicious and came out super fast! We ordered the soba noodles, fried ahi, eggplant, and toro nigiri. All the meat was super high quality and tender. It is izakaya style so on the more expensive style but portions were great and the food quality and presentation makes it worth it! Our server David was almost amazing (give him a raise :P)

It's not often these days that you get a great restaurant experience with all the elements working in place. Zigu succeeds with amazing food, great service, and a cool vibe in its semi outdoor atmosphere with foliage under a tent. The place is extensive with a bar, indoor and lots of outdoor tables that can seat big and small groups . It was hopping on a Sunday night. Like its menu, the decor and feel of Zigu is rooted in traditional Japanese Izakaya but with a contemporary flair. Food and drinks are creative without overdoing it to create amazing flavors and textures. My favorites of the evening are marked with a *. *Aka Collins : shochu, shiso, strawberry, yuzu, bubbles -great balanced flavors with gentle notes of sweet and sour, beautifully presented with a giant leaf and an extra long ice "cube". We started with 3 different salads: *Local Farm Sweet potato salad-just as good if not better than I remembered. It's really a regular potato salad but sprinkled with thin crispy bits of purple sweet potato. The savory smoked mayo flavor that reminded me of bacon but not was ahmazing! *Sumida Farm Watercress Mini Salad with crispy soba noodles and tossed in a delicious light soy based dressing was refreshing and delish. *Local fresh cucumber salad- better than I expected, seasoned and cut just the right width for a nice crunch, also refreshing *Seared Salmon Belly Sushi ~served with 2 kinds of wasabi, pricey but delish ! *Cold Spicy Tantan Kale Noodle incredible taste and texture, the noodles cooked to perfection covered with a silky sesame sauce dressing that my cousin ate alone after the noodles were gone. Unlike the vegan version, this one came with braised beef on top. Local Vegetable Tempura - good, fresh ingredients but not unique or creative like the other dishes Mapo Eggplant - eggplant was soft and covered with a dark sauce, mixed with a few chunks of pork that came with a bit too much fat for my liking. For my birthday they gave a scoop of vanilla ice cream served with a flaming sparkler, a shot of sake, and a song. So fun and different !! Can't wait to come back and revisit my faves as well as try the soba noodle dish we eyed on the next table.

    Happy hr menu

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Zigu is a beautiful spot with a really strong setting, especially if you're into dining somewhere that feels a little special.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The patio is gorgeous, and the historic building gives the whole place a lot of character and charm.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It has that kind of ambiance that makes the meal feel more elevated right away.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food was also solid. The mochiko chicken was a standout, the ahi sushi roll was fresh and well put together, and the miso was really good. We also had the Russell Reserve Select, which was delicious and paired nicely with the meal. This is definitely on the pricier side, but between the setting, the patio, and the quality of the food and drinks, it feels worth it for a nice night out. I'd come back again for the vibe alone, and the food makes it even easier to return.

Zigu is a great spot for an early dinner. They open at 4pm and you can get a table right away if you're doing a walk in. Their food is mainly Japanese but they use local (Hawaii) ingredients when can. The portions are a reasonable size but it's meant for sharing with the table. My favorites are the ginger pork and the ahi poke. The watercress salad is a popular item and I've had it a few times but I'm not a fan of raw watercress and I prefer it in soup. The prices are high but the quality and the taste of their food is very good. The service from the staff is excellent and Candice, our waitress, checked on us often to make sure we were okay throughout the night. If you take pics of your food, the waiters all have a light so they'll shine it and you'll get amazing food pics. They are located in Waikiki, on Kuhio Ave and Seaside Ave. If you park at the Hyatt Centric (hotel), it's a short walk across the street. If you have a large group of 4 or more, I recommend making a reservation in advance on the opentable app; same day if fine. The restaurant gets busy between 6pm - 8pm. I had the patio seating which was spacious and there was a breeze.

I had a craving for Soba Noodles and searched for a spot suitable for a single diner... up popped Zigu! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Walking into the restaurant, it had a certain sense of coziness to it.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I elected to sit at the bar where I was attended to by Candace (sp?). She was very friendly and personable. She started me off with a glass of water and a nice glass of Sake (which I ordered). I selected the Chilled Soba with Tempura. As I checked emails waiting for my dish, I felt this sense of calm due to the setting. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It really is a beautiful, homey kind of space.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The noodles arrived and the dish was fantastic! Perfectly cooked and presented, I dug into the dish. I'd probably rate it in my personal Top 3 soba's outside of Japan. If you're in the Waikiki area and want a traditional/non-traditional Japanese spot. Zigu is the place!

Taco rice (5/5): Imagine salsa, ground beef, cheese, rice in hot stone bowl; amazing combo and apparently a well known Okinawan dish. Shark fin cartilage w/ ume sauce (5/5): Unique, crunchy, refreshing cucumber/cartilage dish. Chicken kaarage (4/5): Awesome fried chicken just wished it was larger portions as I feel like its gotten smaller over the years. Inside, it's really small and there isn't that much seating so I would only recommend going here with a small group or just a pair of people. They immediately asked if we had a reservation (we did not) but there were able to seat us in less than 10 minutes. Looks like it would be good to make reservations in advance just in case! As we were seated, we looked over the three menus on the table. It felt slightly overwhelming to look at, especially with not knowing what some items exactly were (but, thank goodness for Google results and pictures on Yelp!). Our server took our orders relatively quick and we were also handed our drinks in a matter of minutes. It was cool to see them make our drinks in front of us! I will say, as someone who usually goes for drinks that don't taste like alcohol at all, the drinks we both got were a little less sweet than I'm used to but that was ok! They were very easy to drink and it didn't burn the throat. Very smooth! The food was absolutely to die for though!! Their food was legitimately the best food I've had at an izakaya on island. We ordered the beef tongue, chicken karaage, and gyoza - each packing a punch of flavor with each bite. I was most surprised about the beef tongue because of how easy it was to eat since I'm used to beef tongue being on the chewier end and lacking some flavor, yet their beef tongue was very tender and had just enough of that umami goodness. The karaage was crispy and not oily at all! The tartar sauce on top only complimented the crispy texture. The gyoza was pretty decent and is pretty similar to gyoza I've tried at other places. It's still good but didn't have that "wow!" factor that I experienced with the other two dishes. 11/10 would *definitely* come back here again for the food.

Once inside, you are warmly greeted. It's a little dim inside during the day. No paper menus; you need to scan a QR code to see what you want to order. Our group ordered the teishoku set which came with the main entree, rice, oxtail broth, and 2 appetizers (we opted for tofu and eggplant). We opted for the Aburi flank steak which was very very tasty and the Aburi chicken. The chicken was a touch on the salty side, but it came with a spicy dipping sauce which was phenomenal! All the meats had the delicious smoky flavor from the grill. The oxtail broth was kinda bland. We also ordered the oxtail ramen which was also a hit. Finished off dinner with ice cream + mochi. The mochi is also grilled but know that it's not sweet mochi.

Since it was late, we noticed the back of house staff help the front. Everyone was so friendly and food comes out fast. The only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is because the food was a bit too flavorful - we all agreed that everything was slightly salty. I could also say portion of some items may not match price, but I understand inflation is increasing at an alarming rate. So I'll leave money out of this. Crushed cucumbers were interesting. We couldn't decide if eating it with chopsticks or spoon was better. With chopsticks, you might not get enough sauce. But you could taste the layers of flavor. With a spoon, you get too much saltiness. The spice hits at the end. The tako karaage were a little too chewy for us. Beef tongue was so tender. A definite must order. I dont think it needs rice though. We also ordered the late night nikumiso but it didn't come with an egg, which the menu said it should. We tried handful more items but we'll be back to try the oxtail items, as it sounds like that's their specialties, but takes extra time to prepare.

Everyone I've brought here has loved both the food and the atmosphere. The food is incredibly fresh and delicious, and the staff are always so friendly, attentive, and considerate. It's a little on the pricey side, but honestly, it's worth every penny for the quality and overall experience. One tip: definitely make a reservation in advance. For weekdays, I recommend booking 2-3 days ahead, and for weekends, at least a week ahead. It's popular for a reason! Highly recommended if you're looking for great Japanese food with a wonderful vibe in Honolulu.

Izakaya Uosan is located along Kapiolani Blvd. near Piikoi and Pensacola St. in the same building as Gyukaku, Mikiya, etc. Validated parking is available in its QR code parking structure with entrances on Kapiolani and Hopaka St. Just ask the server for the promo code to input when you clock out of your parking. Inside is smallish with the usual izakaya bar style set up and decor with the dark wood and dark tones, but maybe more toned down than a true izakaya. Comfortable, plain, and simple. Menu is pretty confusing and not the clearest, but it's mainly their fresh fish and seafood that are the main attractions. You just gotta figure out what they are cause it's only listed in Japanese and Romanized Japanese. They do have some interesting choices though after a thorough search. Started with Spicy Tuna Roll was very good. Nicely seasoned and prepared sushi rice, neatly rolled with fresh chunks of tuna. $11.50. Spicy Konnyaku was decent. A little light on the seasoning, but not too bad. $4.50. The Chicken Cartilage Karaage was a surprise! Crispy, crunchy, and nicely seasoned. So good. We ordered it twice! $8.50. OH! Toro (Premium Fatty Tuna), 4 pieces sashimi, $42.00. Fresh, melt in your mouth, and nicely presented. Aburi OH! Toro nigiri had a nice char/smoky flavor - equally as good as the sashimi. $13.50. The A5 Mizayaki Beef Sushi with Foie Gras nigiri was amazing! Fresh, melt in your mouth A5 with rich, unctuous Foie gras that was nicely charred and seasoned. $14.00. Grilled Beef Tongue was excellent. Thick cut, tender, nicely seasoned and prepared. Onions garnish went very well adding a nice punch. $14.50. The Uni Shiso Cucumber wrapped with Hirame was a unique combination. Fresh, firm hirame; rich, oceanic uni; bright, herbaceous Shiso; crunchy cucumber. $35.00 - 4 pieces. The Uni Truffle Butter Egg Yolk Rice was okay. It wasn't as rich or as decadent as I'd imagined, especially with uni, egg yolk, and butter noted. A bit too much rice compared to the amount of uni to be able to fully enjoy the richness. Perhaps less rice? Which might lead to a lower price than the $29.00? Corn Karaage was okay. Flavor was one note. It was just corn with miso paste and coated with starch and deep fried to temp. Some seasoning would go a long way. $6.50 for 5 short pieces. Hamachi Carpaccio was good. Fresh fish, flavorful soy-vinegar sauce with complementing toppings (olive oil, sea grapes, grape tomato, onion slices, and Tobikko). $21.00. New Zealand King Salmon Nigiri was very good! Melt in your mouth with a smooth and buttery texture. The Deep Fried Octopus was okay. Slightly toothsome, nicely battered and fried, but very light on the seasoning. Needed the salt to balance the tart ponzu. Overall, a solid meal with fresh, quality ingredients, and everything was nicely prepared and beautifully presented. Decent sake selection, but only two beer choices. The menu had many fish selections, but if you don't know what they are in romanized Japanese, you'll need to search it, which took a bit of time for the decision-maker. Staff was very friendly and attentive in the beginning, but it got busy and it became less. It's a bit pricey, which was expected and known. Uosan feels more of a sashimi restaurant than an izakaya, but that won't stop me from coming back to try more sashimi!

My fiance won a gift card actually 2 of them (from his coworker whom could not get a reservation secured), we knew we had to make the trip over before they officially close. We had multiple dishes, but staff made Kauai prawns and tomato miso black cod dishes on the house since they ran out the Hokkaido scallops. We ordered the short ribs, lobster appetizer, hamachi crudo and lastly sashimi moriawase to finish food palate. Lukki lemon dessert was great way to end to night. Ordered the Milk tea bouquet cocktail while my better half had water ( either way the food coma knock him out cold the rest of the night lol). To be honest, it was difficult to determine which dish was the best because the staff kept quality there despite it being busy every night since they announce the closure. Sashimi moriawase, fish was so fresh, reminded me of my time spent in Hokkaido and Sapporo. Short ribs was soft and rich in flavor. Both me and my fiance liked the lukki lemon dessert, like lemon meringue pie but broken down version. If you have a chance to dine here before closing and got a reservation, definitely will have a lovely dining experience and your stomach will be full by end of the night.

"Jenny I've got your number...I need to make you mine...eight, six, seven, five, three oh nine..."…read morealthough this song and lyrics have nothing to do with 855 Aloha, that was the only thing upon my entry into this mysterious yet somehow still welcoming restaurant that kept playing over and over in my head. 855 Aloha is hip and trendy restaurant in the Waikīkī area of Honolulu that serves both the local community and tourists alike thanks to their buzzworthy mashup of Japanese, Chinese, Korean, and European influenced cuisine that represents the Hawaiian islands rich cultural melting pot. Located on the ground floor of the Romer House hotel, which itself had been recently gutted and remodeled in recent years, along Nāhua Street, 855 Aloha proudly establishes itself as a restaurant that has its roots engrained with a sense of nostalgia from a time when things moved a little slower, even in Hawai'i where things have always moved a little slower, so diners can gather, stay a little longer, which upon my visit I happily did so. Named for Hawaii's once-ubiquitous payphone number, 855 Aloha is a celebration of local history and a bit of an homage to the humble payphone, where a handful of change could connect people back to the mainland. What brought me here was the fact that on a previous journey to the Hawaiian islands, I stayed at the Romer House and thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the hotel, but never got around to visiting their main restaurant on the ground floor lobby. Upon a recent visit to Waikīkī, with the rain coming down in droves, I made it my mission to finally make it one of Waikīkī's most intriguing restaurants. Not having reservations for 855 Aloha was not a problem, as I made sure to call in advance and they said they were taking walk-ins this evening. Being sat in one of their large booths made me appreciate solo dining, and take in the ambiance of a dimly lit dining room. Beyond the cocktail and beverage section of the menu, the dinner menu at 855 Aloha is separated into categories including Sushi Rolls, otherwise known as Roll Call; Salads, otherwise known as Fresh Talk; Shareable Pupus and Appetizers, otherwise known as Party Line; Large Plates, otherwise known as Main Line; Sides, otherwise known as What's Your Extension; and Desserts, otherwise known as Sweet Talk. To start my meal I ordered their Hello Goodbye cocktail which featured Tequila Blanco, Mezcal, Housemade Ginger Syrup, Honey and Lemon. A sultry cocktail that was deep in texture and flavor, this was a nice start to my meal. To eat with my cocktail, I ordered their Cali Roll which was filled with Snow Crab, Avocado, Cucumber and Sesame. This was your traditional sushi roll elevated in an only-in-Hawaii sense of mind. Since I was famished for food, I knew I wanted something hearty, and their Chinatown Chili Crisp Chicken which was served with Gai Lan vegetables, as well as Charred Lemon, and topped with Cilantro. To pair with my entrée, I ordered their Furikake Rice. As I sipped on my cocktail I enjoyed my Cali Roll piece by piece and knew that the food at 855 Aloha was truly elevated and I knew for the rest of my evening I was in for a real treat. My chicken entrée and bowl of steamed rice topped with furikake seaweed and sesame seeds would come out next and I would not be disappointed as it was juicy and flavorful with every bite. The chicken entrée was not the largest dish so sharing this one entrée seems doubtful the side of steamed rice definitely fills up any diner. I didn't think I had any room for dessert but changed my mind when I reviewed their menu, and their Chocolate Haupia Pie topped with Toasted Coconut and Whipped Cream was simply too good to ignore. My total bill for this visit to 855 Aloha was $90.06 that included tax and was before grtuity was added in, which was higher than most, but well worth the price tag. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to 855 Aloha, as it represented the true diverse cultures of Hawaii, thanks to the energy and kindness of the Japanese hospitality that this restaurant represents. Seeing my fellow diners, both large parties and couples enjoy themselves, in such a place where people were clearly bonding over their meal and drinks in such a laid back yet still dynamic social environment was a real treat. As it was my first night in Hawaii and we didn't have dinner yet, sure why not try it? While waiting to be seated, I had asked the staff at 855 Aloha if the 15% discount would apply for guests at the hotel, and quite oddly, she said she didn't know. Upon being seated, I asked our server and strangely, she also didn't know and said she would ask someone. Sort of made me confused and gaslighted that I'm being told two different things. As it's our first time dining at 855 Ahola, we tried a few entrees and I would say that it's flavorful and delicious; much better than I would have expected. $12 for sparkling water, a little pricier but the food was good. I did enjoy my late meal / dinner. My only complaint would be that when the bill arrived, no discount was applied. I had told three servers that I was a guest at the hotel, had my key card and ID as well. The server came back and she applied 10% off. At that point, I just paid for the bill and left a 20% tip for gratuity. Being in Hawaii, especially after a long flight and it being our first meal which happens to be very late and it's dinner, would have liked for the hotel to have just honored the 15% discount without having to ask about it so many times. 15% discount won't break my wallet but it's more about the principle and fairness -- it is actually listed on the website as well. It made me feel like 855 Aloha wasn't very honest. The food itself was good but I would probably just skip this one next time.

We ordered a bit too much food and spent a little under $200 for two people after tax and tip. Some dishes we ordered: 1. Spicy tuna and salmon with garlic roll ($26.50) - massive roll and quite heavy...this was the last dish to come out and we were STUFFED by then. It's good, but I would have preferred to start the meal with this roll, not end with it. 2. Atsuage natto ($9.50) - ordered to hit my protein macros. It's literally fried tofu topped with a generous serving of natto. 3. Eggplant in dashi sauce ($6.50) - light appetizer, and seemed fairly healthy. 4. Miso chilean sea bass ($30) - very flaky and fresh. I was already getting full by this point after our apps and nigiri came out. 5. The nigiri and rolls were all fresh and ranged in pricing. We each got 3 pieces of nigiri and split a couple small rolls in addition to the aforementioned spicy tuna and salmon. Service was decent. We sat at the counter and the chefs were all very nice.
