If you are like me, you REALLY love going to get an oil change. Nothing brings me more joy than…read moretaking time off of work to go and sit in a waiting room watching the news and having a bunch of strangers cough and hack. You probably don't think I am qualified to make statements like "they were running behind" or "how long does it take for an oil change." Well not to name drop, but, jokes on you because my Uncle Ed is in the oil changing business and he knows what's up. Anyway, that is not the rant I am here for. DeNooyer was on time (I would hope so, I had an appointment), the waiting room was clean, depending on which room you were in wifi was dependable (and free), no free snacks (I mean, what do you think this is the Cadillac dealership), but free coffee. My guess is they provide coffee so you can sit and enjoy the company you are forced to share time with. For example, what if I was sleepy when I went in there and dozed off while my oil was being changed. I would have totally missed Shelly... and more specifically, her playing music from her phone for everyone else to hear. Damn it Shelly, have some manners. You know better than listening to your music like that. I love MJ, but I don't like listening to Smooth Criminal in the waiting room of a place where I feel like I am already overpaying (this is not a knock on DeNooyer, everyone feels they are overpaying every visit to every mechanic ever in the history of car problems). Seriously people/Shelly, can we just have a little respect for my audible personal space. Shelly, unless you are going to get up and start dancing your ass through that waiting room, nobody needed to hear YOUR music. To recap: DeNooyer get some snacks. Shelly, turn your f*cking music off. Shelly's kids, buy your mom some headphones.

When we woke up last Saturday and the VW neglected to start we were more than bummed. Mr. and Mrs. B suggested we call Spring Valley Motors. We did, they were closed until Monday. Monday morning I called and Kirk was (as my brother says) right on time. I explained the problem and he agreed to call me back with a tow time. There was a little confusion that followed about the towing, which was completely my fault - for those of you who have never had your car towed for repairs, you need to leave the keys in the car and the tow company will pick the car up with the keys inside - but within a couple hours Kirk had our VW in his shop and had generously picked our key up on his way to get his lunch. By 1:00 pm Monday afternoon Team VP had a diagnosis: a new battery! The battery was $179, the tow was $65 and we paid $75 for a general look over. I looked up batteries for VW TDIs and the prices ranged from $100 to $200, so this coupled with the fact that Mr. MVP and I have no idea how to change a battery we think Spring Valley Motors gave us a very fair price. Kirk had our VW ready to be picked up by 2:45 pm on Monday afternoon. Mr. MVP took an Uber over and we are once again a one car family. For those of you wondering I asked and Kirk said his shop does all the regular maintenance that VWs require as well as repairs. They charge about $100 for TDI oil changes which is the going rate in Kalamazoo.
