3.5 stars. Apparently, Zhengxin Chicken Steak is a huge Chinese fast food chain with over 20,000 locations worldwide. This already their third location in Flushing, with a few more in Manhattan and Brooklyn. This is my first time trying out their food, having never been to any of the other locations.
This location, formerly occupied by Anda's, is tiny and is mainly a take out spot. I ordered:
Chicken skewers ($6.99 for 5 pieces): fried pieces of pieces of chicken marinated in various spices (chili, cumin). Has a slight kick which I didn't mind but the spices definitely coats your mouth. I could really feel the heat after about 3-4 skewers.
Roasted Wings ($3.99 for 2 pieces): technically, it's one piece of wing cut into a wingette and drumette. It tasted fine but a bit steep at four bucks when you realize it's essentially just one piece of chicken.
Taro Bubble Tea ($1): If you spend over $20 you can get a drink for $1. This was a solid drink with good taro flavor and was very refreshing. It also really helped tone the heat down after eating the spicy chicken skewers.
Overall, this was a decent first introduction to Zhengxin Chicken Steak. While I wouldn't go out of my way to come here, I thought the food was decent and would try again. read more
