Every wish you had a great little drive through burger place right near your house? Well lucky me, this gem is my neighborhood's little secret. If you come by during lunch hour, sometimes there will be four or five cars lined up waiting to order. Me, I like to walk up to the side window to place my order. Personally, I like to order the oyster sandwich and one of their delicious berry milkshakes, plus maybe the deep friend mushrooms if I'm feeling particularly impervious to delicious fats that day. You can also get treats such as burgers with hot links or fried eggs on them, and this is one of the few places I've seen that still offers Green River soda...and as a milkshake option! Don't come here expecting anything fancy, this is just good solid fast food. 2 1/2 stars. Look- it's a little hood burger joint. This isn't fresh beef, but that's not why you're coming here. I'll say this- the lettuce and tomato were actually really fresh and the folks behind the counter were nice. I wouldn't eat any of their other offerings, but a 3 dollar double cheeseburger is hard to beat, and it's near where I work. It could use an "O" on their sign, and they might want to send out someone to pick up the travel-sized liquor bottles, but that's just getting nit-picky. read more

A very slept on burger place located in the south end. The prices aren't bad for a burger that will hit the spot every time. Even though the appearance of the outside looks a little sketchy (or even closed at times) it is definitely worth the try! Their hotlink burger with an egg is a must. Super liked it. A LOT. Cheaper than Dick's and heck I can just slather some Trader Joe's tartar sauce at home which we did. Fabulous. Lol I'm only 13 and I've been eating here since I was born basically. I love the hot link burger plus eggs, the fries a just everything. I might sound bias bc i know them, but f*ck it's good. Just because it's sketchy, doesn't mean it's bad food. They actually was a small restaurant that my parents used to eat at when they was young but got tired of running it and went to what it is now. OK. As a burger joint this place automatically gets three stars for not being a McDonalds. In fact, I believe that any chain is a blight on our city so I like to encourage independent, local businesses of all kinds. I like the variety of sides and I'm always excited when someone sells crinkle cut fries. Plus they have lotsa shake flavors. So the burgers are good, the bun was fresh and they toasted it in the grill. That was good, but they committed my personal cardinal burger sin. I really hate it when people put a big white chunk of lettuce secretly between the buns and think nobody will notice. No individual leaves, just a big hard white chunk of something that is practically the core. They did that here. So I can't forgive that. Minus one star. But four stars is better than McDonald's, isn't it? This place deserves a try. read more

Having used to live literally less than a minute walk away, this was my family's go to little burger joint. I've been coming here ever since I can remember ! The crinkle cut fries are perfectly seasoned and crisp. I love it because they're always fresh out the fryer. The burgers are pretty good too. I usually get the hotlink burger, so yummy! My mouth is watering right now. It can be a little of a wait, depending on what you order & if its busy or not. I don't come very often anymore since I live about 45 minutes - an hour away , but every time I do come, it brings me back to my childhood memories. read more

If you haven't yet, TRY THIS PLACE!! I've tried the hot link burger and I was already swoon. The burger looked like there was effort into making it. Yes it might seem sketchy because of the area, but it's not. Plus it didn't seem like a lot of people worked there, might be family owned, but one of the workers came out to take our orders because the wait is very long. It probably to 30 minutes including waiting to order, pay, and get our food. Probably won't go back considering its cash only or they'll charge extra for card, but also because the wait is long and they close at 7pm on weekdays. read more

I have lived in South Seattle for over 20 years and have always wondered about Zest. It is drive through only and I rarely see any cars there, so I didn't know how they stayed in business. Thanks to the reviewers above, I decided to make a special trip there for lunch today. My first shock was that there was a line of 4 cars - one car waiting at the pick up window, one at the order window and two behind waiting with me in the rear. If you find yourself in the line up at Zest, get out of your car and place your order at the walk up window. They appear to make everything from scratch so this will greatly shorten your wait. I had the hot link burger with the optional egg on top. I thought i was very good - a little greasy but what do you expect when you have a hot link in it? Total cost of the burger and a medium drink was a little over $6. I thought it was a good value for quantity of food. Now for a little history. Zest started in the original location across the street. For years, the sign said Zestos, with the "os" painted over, but you could still see it a little. Having grown up in Ballard, I have always wondered if this old Zestos was started by the family who ran the Ballard institution across from the high school. read more

Have you ever seen that movie "Dumb and Dumber" by Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniel? Do you remember that scene where Jim Carrey was the driver of a limo, but he hopped in the backseat then asked someone for direction claiming that his driver was lost? That's how I kind of felt tonight. The girlfriend and I were headed for a late dinner when we noticed that the windows to "Zest Fast Food" was not boarded up, usually it is I mean I've been driving by here for over 15 years now and have never seen it open, until today! We pulled up to the drive through window then a man pops his head out and asked what would we like. I requested some time because I was having a hard time trying to read their handwritten menu! Finally we ordered the Fish sandwich and a hot-link burger then the guy told us to pull up to the next window. WTF?! When we pulled up to the next window, there he was to take our money! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA That was hillarious! He then takes our money leaves and comes back maybe little less then 5 minutes with our order. The hot-link burger was tasty with a fried egg inside it(at my request) but was a little greasy and the fish burger I did not try but the girlfriend did say it was cheap. Never in a million years would I ever think that I'd hit up Zest's until I heard about it from my old best friend. First of all, I barely ever have a reason to hit up the Rainier area especially with it located in one of the most ghetto areas of Seattle. Without the word by mouth, I don't think I'd ever realize such a burger place existed. And plus, I don't ever hear about Zest's from anyone... everyone's always talking about Dick's Burgers, Five Guys, whatnot... but hey, hey, hey... people gotta add Zest's to their list, too! Their HOT LINK BURGER + EGG and crinkle fries are not to be missed. I was starving after a hectic day at school one day and first thing that came to mind was this particular burger. I could've grabbed any other burger up north by UW, but my tummy was only calling for some Zest's, so I decided to drive all the way down south just to get some. It was my first time trying it and mann... I gotta say it's one of the bombest burgers I've had in my life. Every bite tasted so heavenly especially with some special sauce they use. It might be a little too greasy and fattening for some health freaks out there, but hey... I was very satisfied and it definitely hit the spot for me! Crinkle fries brought back the good ol' memories back in the days. I've also had their other hamburger or cheeseburger and it was good, too. Although the size of the place is small and their menus are a bit difficult to read... don't let that stop you from trying out and supporting this family-owned business. If you're a foodie don't come here. If you wanna good cheap burger come here. The lettuce is fresh, tomato slices thick and the fries are crunchy. There is a star at this restaurant although... For around $4 you can get a fried oyster sandwich. A few fried oysters with lettuce and tomato on a sesame seed bun doesn't sound like much but if you like simple pleasures then this is the sandwich to get. I feel I'm being generous with 3 stars at Zest. I think people giving the higher ratings must be frequenting the medical mary-jane shops around there. The place looks like what an old burger joint should look like which was enticing. I ordered the double cheese with bacon and a large fry. The burger was just o.k. and the fries were pretty good. They advertise 20 oz bottled Pepsi which I ordered and didn't get. The guy at the window "forgot" to tell me. Something tells me he was frequenting those shops too. While the experience wasn't horrible it definitely didn't have the flavor I was expecting after reading so many reviews. I won't be a return customer. read more

I have a friend who says there are Zesto's in Atlanta) and not McDonalds. But my cheeseburger bun and beef patty were dry, and the slice of American cheese wasn't melted. I come here often enough because my eating pal loves it here. I never knew the name of this little fast food shop just knew it was orange and yellow. Now I've become a regular. The service is great. The food is even better. Their burgers are well proportioned and I like the way they stack their lettuce. It's very easy to devour without creating a mess.
