Zen tea is so quaint! But it is missing comfy. Where there should be low light lamps next too cozy chairs and couches there are high and short tables and chairs. I wanted to be comfy with my tea. Now the menu is intense, but the hostess behind the counter was ready to lead me down the yellow brick road to a great tea!! I picked the Kashmiri Chai because when I was allowed to savor its scent prior to tasting it smelled delicious!!! Is chai without ginger and the remaining flavors of cinnamon and cardamom was awesome! I was very happy with my little 16oz pot My friend got a Earl Grey Tea Latte and other than a little too much foam, she was happy with her choice. You can buy teas to go with you as well. When I first walked into ZenTea, I felt like I was walking into a Portlandia sketch; you know the one with Candace and Toni, the two feminists who run "Women and Women First" bookstore. The cafe was full of women; some alone, reading or working on laptops; others gathered in small groups absorbed in quiet conversation. The owner(s) and all the employees were women. I kinda felt like I was intruding on a coven or Wiccan enclave. I circled the cramped little café trying to get my bearings, fingering the wall shelves brimming over with shiny pouches of tea and tea related paraphernalia. I had read on Yelp that there were tea tastings - but not at this time. Missing were soft, comfy chairs or couches in the main seating area. There were just hard top tables and chairs and high bar stools by the front windows. So I bellied up to the countertop bar where I struck up a conversation with a TEA-ista. These folks know their tea!!! If there were a book that encapsulates ZenTea, it would be called "Everything You Always Wanted To Know About Tea But Were Afraid To Ask." Did you know that some tea is best brewed at 175 degrees? Others at 193 degrees? I didn't, but I do now! The tea menu was 3 pages long. Attempting to look at it, my ADHD started kicking in so I asked for a recommendation. After quizzing me to narrow my choices we landed on a robust and highly caffeinated Earl Grey. Did you know Earl Grey is best when steeped in 193 degree water for exactly 3 minutes? I didn't, but I do now! This place is perfect for tea aficionados. It would take years to talk about and taste the vast inventory ZenTea has in stock. It is quite impressive. The next time I come here I will definitely be with Ellen for an orchestrated tea tasting - something I have never experienced. If you love tea, stop by Zen Tea. I would've never noticed this place except for my friend who lives near here - she told me she liked it better than "Get Coffee" which is just a few stores down. We actually tried to go to Get Coffee last night but they had a live band playing and the place was packed. Not the perfect elements for conversation. So we walked a little further down to Zen Tea. What a complete contrast. Quiet, peaceful, Enya-like music in the background, a flat-screen with audio/visual of waterfalls, warm colors, and very comfortable armchairs next to the window - perfect place to enjoy a good book and cup of tea, or conversation and a cup of tea which is what we did. They have free WIFI, too. The lady working there offered free samples - we decided on the Rooibos Mocha tea and she then brewed a fresh pot for us. I like the extra condiments, too, like the sugar water, the agave nectar, and different spices. For me it wasn't a dream though, that was exactly what I experienced in Zen Tea just yesterday. I went for the tea tasting because of Groupon but I will definitely be back again for their tea. It was so calming, and so relaxing to be in the store. The host (who I assumed also the owner) was really friendly. She was very good at brewing the tea, and very informative with the tea selection. For the tea tasting you'll get 1 small pot of tea of your choice (I chose hojicha and my bf chose matcha. Both were amazing!), a plate of dessert that is to die for and also the small cups of whatever tea they serve for the tasting. The website said 5-6 cups, but we had 8 cups of different tea yesterday. Having lived in Asia for several years and recently moved to the Middle East, i relish each time i visit the ATL area and can stop in at Zen Tea. ZT is a great model for what a contemporary and cozy tea shop should be. Their selection of teas is outstanding, and the calm and welcoming atmosphere that they've crafted is bar none. Each time i now stop into tea shops in various cities, i find myself longing for the Zen Tea experience. I absolutely love this little tea shop! I came across it on Groupon and purchased a voucher for tea and cream for 2 (including two personal tea pots, 3 scones per person, lemon curd, strawberry preserves, and clotted cream). I took my best friend here when she came to visit me from SC and we absolutely loved the atmosphere. The inside is quaint and calming, especially on a rainy day. There is an overwhelming selection of teas to choose from, and the woman working was very informative and helpful in our selections of tea. While in London, I had tried this wonderful chai masala at a well-known Indian restaurant that I quickly became very fond of. Upon my return stateside, I discovered that a recipe for this very satisfying drink existed online. The recipe called for Assam tea. Looking to find this tea at various places around town to no avail, I finally happened upon ZenTea. Success! They had the tea I was looking for. Assam tea in a sealed pouch. But how much tea did the pouch contain? I asked one of the employees, to which I got the response to the effect of, "2 ozs. Next time, if you want to know prices and quantities look at this" as she gestured at a blue booklet inconspicuously located on a shelf. Ok, duly noted. As I paid for 4 ozs, I made the error of conveying why I was buying the tea. I said, "When I was in London, I had this really great chai tea at an Indian restaurant that used this Assam tea as a base". Now, what could have easily been pleasant chit-chat or at the very least nominal customer service, say "Oh, that's nice. We enjoy this tea. Here's how we've prepared it" instead was "chai means tea, so what you're saying is redundant" followed by the pair of employees snickering. Gee, thanks. Also, duly noted. Sometimes, it's not what you say, but how you say it. Belittling your customers with a smug and condescending tone doesn't reflect the warm and inviting nature of a hot cup of tea. It was tea spritzer day when we went for our tea tasting. Their tea spritzers consisted of tea, juice and club soda. I've never had a tea spritzer before but the different concoctions that we tried were super delicious and extremely refreshing! Especially on the hot summer day that we went. The ladies that hosted the tasting were extremely knowledgeable and very friendly. The tea tasting included a slice of lemon pound cake with lemon sorbet. What a great compliment to the teas! I am actually sitting in ZenTea as I write this review and the very looooong over due visit of finally making it to this place, has completely been worth the wait. I have snagged a high top by the window, the sun is making its presence well known, I am listening to beautiful classical Indian flute music, sipping Lovers Cup Rose Condou tea (delicious!) and indulging in probably THE best chocolate chip cookie I have ever had. This moment = a little slice of heaven. The space is small, serene, and as the name suggests, very calming. The collection of teas they serve AND sell is extremely impressive. I was looking for a tea shop for a gift for a new tea drinker and found this place on Yelp. It's in kind of an odd location, but it's a little gem. They have a fantastic tea selection and all the accouterments you would need all wrapped up in a cute little shop with tons of easy parking. I didn't try any food, it it was super tempting. I'm here right now as I type this. I needed a place to get away and clear my head. I had been researching tea houses because I'm obsessed with tea. I found out that this tea house is 17 minutes from where I live so here I am! I could have parked out front but decided to use their additional parking on the side of the building. It smells really good in here, as soon as you walk through the door. I ordered the Om Calming herbal tea which is sweet and I like it. There are honey sticks for sale and sugar on the tables which is what I need. Their veggie quiche was downed in a matter of seconds; I don't even like bell peppers which made up most of the dish and I loved it. Now I'm working on this really good chocolate cake. They give you a lot of tea for a 16oz pot. It's quiet in here right now as I got here right at 11 and it's almost noon. I'm so glad it's quiet and actually zen! I plan on frequenting this place and giving them all my money. It is important to note that you place the order yourself before you sit down. They do not come and take your order! Came to this cute tea shop on a Saturday afternoon for high tea. It was a friends birthday and we were a group of 8. I'd seen the place before when I was in Chamblee but never came in. They're nextdoor to Bluetop and they have a few designated parking spots to the left of the building. There's ample parking near other businesses too. When you walk inside there are 100s of types of loose tea and tea-drinking accessories on display to purchase. There are a couple high top tables with stools and small tablets near the window. There's also a little tasting bar set up and a group was doing a tasting during my arrival. Just past that is a single restroom. In the back is a larger room with several small tables which could be arranged for groups of four or more. This back room was not as quaint as the front one was. There were pictures on the walls but it wasn't a very warm or inviting area. It felt a little bland and dull back here. Our table was set here for high tea with a box of chocolates at each place setting. The high tea includes two mini pots of tea per person and food including scones, sandwiches, quiche and dessert. They don't cheat you on the food here during high tea. I compared the food offerings to another small tea room I went to last year where we had a small selection of snacks for high tea and left hungry. That wasn't the case here. The 1st course of scones came out with several sauces but the standout was the lemon curd. OMG I could've eaten a scoop of this stuff. There were enough scones for everyone to have two. Next came out chicken salad croissant and pimiento cheese sandwiches. Also enough for everyone to have one of each. Next was a tiny sliver of spinach quiche which was so good I wanted a little more. Last came out a full dessert spread for each person including a pastry, two cakes, ice cream and candy. The 1st pot of tea came before the scones and the 2nd pot came out right before dessert. I am a tea drinker at heart and don't do coffee at all. I have at least a cup a day. The teas I tried here were great. Each small pot was about 2.5 cups worth so my group chose different flavors and we shared. My favorite was a peach tea and jasmine green tea. I had the fruit tea but it was a little heavy on the berry flavors. Our group included someone from England and she gave the Earl Grey with a splash of cream the thumbs up. If in the area I would love to come here and sit near the front window and enjoy a cup of tea. They'd be a great place to pick up a gift for a tea lover as well. read more

Lovely selection of high quality and unusual teas offered with a selection of sweets and savories: quiche, mini cupcakes, cookies, etc. My two favorites are the Lover's cup which is black tea flavored with rose petals and the matcha tea latte served either hot of cold...so good! GLASS EVERYWHERE! Bull in china shop comes to mind; I was terrified about breaking something the whole time. So why come here? Uh, for the tea... duh!! The menu provides four pages of teas including white, black, green, mate, roobios and oolong. They also throw in some organic teas. I tried the Tea Spritzer which was tea, some juice and mineral water. VERY good! I think Ive found my replacement for my cream soda addiction. I then moved on to the Tea Flight courtesy of the kindly gent sitting behind me. I picked three teas that ended up ranging from very good (Chai Mate), okay (something minty with a "S"), to one I didnt care for (Jasmine Rose). After a few hours I tried one last tea, it was a really good black tea but I forget the name. The staff was very nice! The bar...err, tea-keeper allowed me to be my indecisive self and let me smell all the teas I was curious about, which was darn near all of them... all with a smile. I purchased four 2-ounce bags of tea for the road. Chai Mate, White colada, Black hazel nut, and Black caramel roasted almond. The quality of the teas are excellent! The price is remarkable compared to other stores. I was able to get some work done and enjoyed my time here. The room is filled with all things tea from bags to kettles, matched with special cups and spoons. If you want tea to be a new hobby this would be your meet up. Although it was not what I was expecting, I was very impressed by what you get by way of product, service, and atmosphere. I think I'll round a group for a tea tasting one of these days soon. Why didn't I come to Zen Tea when I was suffering from morning sickness a few months ago? Oh yeah, because I spent most of the time I wasn't at work zonked out on the couch. But I'm definitely going to have a shopping trip here soon. You never know when you'll need tea. Zen Tea is one of those cute places that has sprung up in the "downtown Chamblee" area near the Chamblee MARTA station. I have been meaning to check it out for a while, and last night, my husband and I finally did. It's a pretty small place, but a lot of thought was clearly put into the decor and comfort. When we visited last night, there was a live musician and his wife and adorable grandkids were there for moral support. We sat on the comfy chairs in the corner and just enjoyed the nice, chill energy for a while before perusing the menu. The menu is impressive indeed. If you can imagine it, you can order it (and you can buy the leaves, too). Tea lattes are offered for $3.50 a pop with any flavor and you can opt for whipped cream, chocolate or caramel drizzle, or a variety of other similar toppings. I had a tea latte with Caramel Rooibos tea, and it was heavenly. In addition to selling both brewed tea and leaves, the shop has a corner devoted to gifts. They have some of prettiest cast-iron tea pots I've seen in a while and some lovely tea cup sets. If I weren't trying to keep myself on a budget, I'd love to purchase one of those tea pots. I found my new sanctuary for tea! If it wasn't for Groupon, I would've never known about this place. My friend and I purchased a voucher to do a tea tasting. I've always wanted to do one to expand my tea palette and I'm glad we experienced this. The staff is extremely nice. Stephanie served us and she is very knowledgeable about each tea. Every weekend they have a different theme and she gave us the option to follow the theme or choose 4-5 teas from the menu. This menu has over 70 flavors which was overwhelming for me so I told her to follow the theme for the day. We tried Very Berry, Raspberry, English Breakfast, Thai Ginger and another one that I can't remember. My favorite from them all was the Thai Ginger which is a Roobios tea from S. Africa. I bought a bag for work. They handle all teas with extreme care, steeping it for however long it allows for which on average is about 3 minutes. The Groupon also included complimentary desserts. It's been a bit since I've been back, and 18 months since my last review so I wanted to update. They've really expanded the tea selection. It used to be just the wall toward the back of the bar, but now it's spread out far more, and there were some teas that were definitely new. I was glad to see prices haven't really changed, especially on the teas. Two ounce packages are still $6 each if you buy less than four. I picked up Strawberry Papaya green tea and a mango flavored green rooibos since they'll both be great iced. I also had a matcha lemonade. I was not expecting it to be blended up, so that was interesting! It wasn't like a slushie, the blender more or less gets all the matcha blended and crushes the ice. It was so good that I may have tried to replicate it at work today. Also if you want iced tea, they keep a black tea, a green tea, and an herbal tea on the ready for iced tea. On our visit it was apricot black, gojiberry green, and a peach berry fruit tea, which I also had and it was really good. The cups of tea are $2.50, but for $3, you can pick out anything you'd like and they'll make it iced. I first picked up the menu with the intention to do that but the description of the peach berry tea had me without even wanting to look at more. If you're looking to do something different for iced tea this summer, definitely stop here and get something unique from the usual black tea. They also have everything you need to steep tea so if you don't have that, one of the gravity steepers would be perfect for making iced tea. (You steep the tea for however long then place the steeper over a cup/pitcher, which causes it to open and drop the liquid through the bottom.) Plus if you're trying to make a decision between coming here or going to Maison Robert, this is the right choice since you can have tea AND something from their store! Win-win. read more

This is a one-of-a-kind place in Atlanta. Homesick and feeling under the weather, I had my first visit here. Connie, the owner, recommended a soothing ginger-mint tea. I've often returned for the serene zen vibe, and I like that they have a meditation room. I always meet nice people here with distinct personalities - a writer could have fun here - and I've stayed for hours, chatting, reading, listening to nice music. I love the crowd and the lovely friends I've met here. The quiche from neighboring Maison Robert is perfect with the teas, as are the cupcakes and ginger snaps. Please try their cold macha latte! I feel relaxed just thinking about Zen Tea. Actually, I am also thinking of the tree people or the Elves of Middle Earth from Lord of the Rings. That is what this place reminds me. Zen Tea is a calm, earthy place in the Chamblee area that sits along the train tracks. The shop is not large at all, it is very quaint. The shop person that was there reminded of the people I used to know in Austin. She was very knowledgeable of the loose leaf tea offerings. She even went out of her way to let me see six or seven of them. I was only interested in the Oolong, Green, White and Herbals and I got a run down on the top ones. Your best bet is the 4 for $5 a loose leaf bag. They also offer the bagged tea, the loose leaf, coffee, and iced tea to go. There are only two tea places that I have trusted for tea, Teavanna and Zen Tea. I will update my review for which one is better, I think they offer similar teas but I haven't had enough of each to tell you which one is better. read more

I was given a gift certificate Edie my birthday and had to go through the ringer to get receipts from a fiend long distance to honor it. I made it out to Zen Tea for the first time a few nights ago after driving by this place who knows how many times. I was seriously impressed with their selection of teas I must have spent at least 10 minutes smelling all of the different teas until I settled upon their organic green tea with citrus and jasmine. And they had one of my favorite teas as well, a chocolate-mint rooibos tea. It's very decadent and caffeine and calorie free! Their weekly tea tastings are definitely intriguing. I see myself coming to one sometime in the near future. The only thing that left me somewhat disappointed is that the don't have bubble tea, another favorite of mind. Was looking for a place to do work on a Friday work and randomly came across ZenTea bc I took a wrong turn. Thank god for that wrong turn. As soon as I entered this place I was welcomed with a great team aroma and a warm smile. Over 160 types of teas! Which was a bit overwhelming being primarily a coffee drinker, but I was helped through my entire decision process and ended up with a fantastic tea. The golden monkey. Would highly recommend it for anyone into non-flavored black teas. Also they have a back room where you can enjoy your tea. Isolated room away from the nearby business with soft music. On a whim a friend and I stopped by on a rainy Sunday and it really hit the spot. It's a very bright and relaxing environment. As soon as we got the counter we were treated to samples and they gave us explanations of the tea types. A customer next to was telling us how wonderful the tea she was having and next thing we knew there were samples for us as well - and it was yummy. When I was considering which tea to get they gave me various samples to smell before I chose. The jasmine tea was wonderful and I had a sip of my friends and I'm looking forward to going back. I came in here expecting amazing teas and all sort of stuff because the review was just so good. I wasn't mildly disappointed. The teas weren't all that special. I got the 16oz iced matcha soy latte and my friend got the tropical teas (hot). We also ordered the no flour chocolate cake and a chicken salad sandwich. The matcha soy latte has the same flavor as my soy milk. There wasn't enough taste of matcha in my opinion. I didn't care much for it. My friend's tea was bland that I believe he pour in half a bottle of honey. But he did say the chicken sandwich is really good. This is like pure heaven for a tea addict like myself! They have about a three page menu of different teas to choose from. I browsed over the menu and they have everything from green, black, roobis, herbals, and everything in between-and all loose leaf too boot. The food menu is kind of limited to quiches, soup, and a few baked goods. The shop is very quaint and cozy and the free wi-fi is a nice touch. They have live bands on some nights as well as meditation groups. I can definitely see myself returning in the very near future! read more

ZenTea is probably one of the few tea bars I know of outside of the perimeter. I came here for a Sunday tea tasting of their holiday teas. I definitely recommend checking out their site for tasting schedules and reservations are definitely required. I really enjoyed how they'd have a tea specialist answer any questions. One thing I noticed right off is that many teas aren't that hot. Apparently, I've been doing it wrong all along? There are specific temperatures that should be used with different varieties of teas. I would've prefered something a little hotter. One of the best things about the tea tasting is that you can pick a tea of choice to enjoy before all the holiday tastings. I had the Rooibos Rose Earl Grey which was delicious - you kinda have to have a taste for rooibos tea to enjoy this. I also like how before you make your final choice, the tea barista lets you smell the dried tea blend first before it's steeped. There were at least 6 tea tastings, all various types and flavors. Some of the flavors I enjoyed was the Black Hazelnut which definitely has a heavy hazelnut aroma, the Green Tea Apple Pie, and there was a Cranberry herbal blend which is very tart. I preferred all these teas without sweetener, but they do have honey and sugar available. The space is cozy and there are plenty of tables. I don't think music gets played at all, so there were moments of silence among the other patrons that they could eavesdrop on our conversation. This tea shop is definitely on the quieter side, but it's not exactly intimate or a place for more private conversation. Overall, this is a unique place to hangout if you're looking for something out of the ordinary. This location is a bit out of the way for me, but given the chance, I'd probably come back. read more

This is a cute little tea shop in an interesting shopping area. They have a wide variety of tea options from all over the world and the expertise to brew them correctly. Given the Chamblee address I was expecting more of a sweet hut bubble tea vibe, but in reality this is more of a less commercial Teavana style cafe. This would be an interesting place to come if you are new to loose leaf tea, ZenTea has tea tasting sessions and the servers are seems more then willing to make suggestions. If you are a tea lover, or you are looking for a nice quite place to work or study, this is a great place to try. read more

My friend has her birthday tea party here. It qas High Tea and it was super super cute. They have a large room for large parties. The set up was really cute. They have such a wide variety of teas. So it was a rainy, free day and I'd just finished a gut bomb burger at Milano's. Well I remembered Zen had a Scoutmob and I thought, why not? Walked into a cutesy tea shop and adored the live music. Seriously, I don't know who was singing or what language it was in, but it's the bomb. It can get crowded, but there's a bar for you to wait until then. Seems like a popular place for lunch ladies and spouses. I don't think this is a place conducive for studying, even during off hours- the tables were uncomfortably sticky and rather small (I could maybe fit my macbook and that's really about it), lots of crazy whirring noises and Buckhead Bettys talking about nails or dogs or something. Since it was also crowded, I felt a little pressure to leave as soon as possible as well. TEA AND SCONES: I had the iced matcha latte ($3.95) and 3 scones set ($5.65) with lemon curd and strawberry jam. The matcha was good and the scones were surprisingly super small (1 inch circumference or 2 inches at the hypotenuse). Zen sources them from Maison Robert down the street and while they were good, I was extremely disappointed that they were baby sized and $6. My total after Scoutmob was $5.xx, which isn't too bad. I did absolutely adore the lemon curd. I'd take a jar of that back home with me. I can't say much for the actual tea, but my friend got the ginger oolong and said she liked it. The only thing I felt iffy about was that I had asked if the matcha was food-grade or ceremonial, and the girl told me it was very high-quality and after a slight hesitation said "ceremonial". I asked to see the powder and it did not have the characteristic vivid bright green hue. While it wasn't yellow-ish tinged or god forbid brownish, it was a fairly dark hue characteristic of food-grade. Now I'm just being nitpicky, but the foam associated with matcha is extremely light and airy, creating an extremely smooth froth (think coffee crema). The foam here consists of huge bubbles that made drinking impossible without a straw. While I did like ZenTea's spin, I think I'd prefer to dish out some $$ on Amazon and make my own latte because it was also just a tad under the mild side. I'm not sure if this is all the product of the Scoutmob Syndrome, but I'll come back after the whole shebang is over. Hopefully they'll lower their prices, because for 12 tea bags it's $8.50, 24 for $15, and 36 for $22. That's even worse than Teavana, believe it or not, if you do weight per ounce, and Teavana is already pretty close to robbery. TL;DR: still source your teas from more specialized online retailers. ZenTea is an expensive place right now due to the Scoutmob. Live music here is the best. Don't come here expecting to get your study on. read more

The tea tastings are an inexpensive way to try several teas, and you get a lot of information about them too. We did a tasting on Saturday, and the focus was on lattes, hot and cold macha lattes, a masala chai, and a mocha rooibos. All were delicious. I recommend the smokey joe, pu-erh earl grey, and the scottish butterscotch, though everything I've tried there has been good. read more
