Instead, she set about facilitating my sorting and deciding what to do with each piece item in the jumbled pile of (mostly) crap that got haphazardly thrown into boxes during a series of moves. After about 5 hours, we got through about 90% of the items, which were then either thrown away or put into piles designated 1) donate, 2) give away and 3) keep. What remained was placed into compact tidy & well organized piles either in the house or under a tarp secured with bricks. Luckily it didn't rain that night, or any night for another month. :-) But I finally admitted to myself that I wasn't going to get the project finished on my own - too much baggage, literal and figurative. So Karen came back several more times. Everything that had been sorted into the "keep" piles was put away into a designated space. I finally had my house back!!! We didn't finish everything, I haven't been entirely diligent about keeping things organized, so I have a little more work to do. Karen's coming back soon. I am confident the job will be completed under budget. And I'll be restored to sanity and happiness. She's a saint. And she's great at what she does. If I could give her 40 gazillion stars, I would.
