I stopped in to Zen Aquatics because I am curious about installing a koi pond in the backyard but have zero experience with fish. I was impressed by the water world inside this store with a truly magnificent tank by the register that had the coolest stingray swimming around. I was told that the owner, JP, has extensive knowledge about everything koi ponds and is a wonderful resource for advising on the installation and required equipment. I wasn't sure that koi would live in this hot desert environment but apparently they do just fine! Zen had a great selection of koi fish in multiple sizes and all the accoutrements to go with them. I have been in the reefing hobby for 13 years. I met JP and his staff whenI first started out. I will continue to go to Zen until JP retires which I hope isnt too soon :) They have the most Friendly and helpful, and knowledgeable staff with the best selection of livestock and dry stock of any saltwater store I've been to over the years. They are also always adding new equipment and staying up to date with all the new goodies. I recommend Zen to anyone who is just getting into the hobby or has been in it for years. Very disappointing .... Manager/Staff. Visibly annoyed in answering any questions, thanks for making my 13 year olds experience so pleasant....we are locals hoping to gain long term business......guess we didn't meet your standards for customers if so selective you wish to be you could at least show it, cleaning, perhaps a bit merchandising can go a long way ...... Been here a couple times now and this is my new go-to store for fish, even though I am coming from the Inland Empire. They have a pretty big selection of fish and you can tell all the fish tanks are clean and the fish are healthy. The staff are always happy to feed fish for me which is super important when picking out new fish. Prices are labeled here, which is nice. I like to buy my fish in batches so I can quarantine them at home and it's nice to walk the store and have an idea how much the total price is going to be, rather than having to ask the price of every single fish as I go. Besides fish they keep a decent selection of corals and dry goods and the display tanks are also very nice. Overall, my experiences here have always been positive with the staff being friendly and helpful. I'm definitely coming back and I highly recommend this place! read more

One guy in the reviews said they do not have a big selection. They have the largest selection in the desert. Some aquarium shops have empty tanks thru out the store. I understand that when they go to purchase fish for the store they cannot go look at them like they used to because of the quarantine so it's a little bit harder to stock all the kinds of fish. JP as I call him the Fish Doctor will give you the best advice and the assistant Dr. Brandon will also give you great advice and they care about their customers. read more

This has been my go to store for reef supplies, fish and coral. JP and Brandon are super friendly and very helpful. They have been more than willing to give advice and even let me borrow equipment to see if I like it before I buy it. You can put in orders if there are specific things you want that they don't have in stock and they will usually have it for you in a couple of days. Brandon and JP give great consideration to your tank and its inhabitants as if they were your own. This is by far my favorite aquarium store. I knew absolutely nothing about salt water until I came here. JP and Brandon are extremely helpful and knowledgable when it comes to salt water. They helped me pick out my 10Gal Innovative Marine nano tank and answered all the questions I had. Just from their advice and knowledge alone I was able to create my saltwater tank and have no issues with it. I've had my tank for about a year now and it's only getting better which is enticing me to get another tank because of all the options they offer. When I encountered something I didn't know, I just simply asked them and they knew how to help. They also have a good selection of coral and fish to choose from. I can't believe what an awesome tank I have. Seriously! I've loved fish ever since I was a kid and would always stop by Zen Aquatics to just look at the great selection of fish for fun. (Zen Aquatics is like visiting an aquarium!) I walked in, just looking around trying to get my feet wet with the idea, and wound up with a custom made 100 gallon freshwater aquarium! I didn't even know they did freshwater tanks because their selection of saltwater is so incredible. I just assumed that's what they specialize in, but don't let that fool you... the freshwater tanks they make are just as beautiful as salt and I couldn't be happier with what I have! JP answered all my concerns and questions about owning a tank. What to do and what I shouldn't. He even took me to the back of the shop to look at custom made aquarium stands that would seamlessly integrate with my own home esthetics.... and I've got to say the stand matches perfectly with my future. (I honestly think it was made by the same company I bought my furniture from...it looks better than I expected) I even have lights that I can control via iPhone...even when I'm not at home! Why didn't I do this sooner? Not only that but JP and his team came to my house, set the tank up, and specifically customized the aquascape to my desires! You can't beat service like this. I'm a novice and JP (and all of Zen Aquatics) make me feel so comfortable and confident with my aquarium decision. From tank to stand to filters, they know it all. JP, the owner of Zen Aquatics, has been the most incredible help for almost 5 years! He has given wise advice regarding maintenance of my turtles and their habitat for both desert and mountain habitats. He is knowledgeable and shares his knowledge generously. He has gone out of his way in many ways over the years. Without his help my turtles would not still be here today! They have been sheltered at Zen Aquatics quite a few times during the hottest months. Sometimes for as long as 3 months! The environment he provided for them was pristine. We have shopped tropical salt water fish stores from LA to PS and most cities in between. Finding a store where you don't see sick fish or scratching off the rocks is almost impossible. This is a small but knowledgeable store. PJ is a great guy and the fish quality are great. Before finding this gem I was traveling all the way out to Redlands and San Bernardino. A pretty amazing fish store in its own right let alone in the desert. I frequent this place a lot just to check out the changing selection. Most of the staff is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Willing to talk to you about the aquarium and tank mates needs to make sure there's a solid understanding. The range of corals here is pretty good, and they are usually generous on corals that are taking over their tanks. They also have a lot of tanks and tank equipment which takes up almost half their store. The fish and tank mates they have on selection is focused for bigger tanks they have rays and sharks in their selection almost at all times so not the best place for nano tanks although they do have a small section of nano tanks in the back right some will definitely outgrow but it's worth looking at if you have a 20-10 gallon. The macro algae's here are alright and I've never used their salt water personally. read more

I just moved up to a 29 Gallon Nano (believe it or not I actually had a smaller tank) I went to this fish store I have dealt with the owner and two other employees at Zen Aquatics store. They are all wonderful. They are very knowledgeable and attentive. They have salt water already to go there and were kind enough to let me barrow 6 jugs to fill my tank. They have allot of accounts they service which shows they know their fish. They have a good selection of tanks and the owner said he would have tried to come close to the price I paid for my tank. This place used to be ripe with bad reviews. They have imporved quite a bit. The best time to be there is when the owner is present. He seems to have more passion and knowledge about aquariums than his employees. It's is the desert so you will have to pay a bit of a premium for stuff, but they keep prices reasonable. They initially do a decent job, then after a while the monthly fish tank cleaning and maintenance is almost non-existent and you end up with a bunch of dead fish because the filters aren't working or the bottom of the tank wasn't properly cleaned.
