I will never step back in to Fish and Fangs again. They over charge people, and they dont change prices on there fish. He was going to charge me $82.00 for a diamond gobby, 4 turbo snails and 30 crickets. I like wow on you fish tank $19.99 for the diamond gobby, $4.99 each for turbo sales and crickets are $2.00 for a dozen. Should be 46 bucks plus taxs and they have 10% off all the fish. He said we just got the fish in and we didnt have time to change prices. I like so you just making prices up and over charge customers? I see why you guys are losing business. He said he is done here and took everything back and kinda kick us out. Ever since Jordan left this please has gone down hill. I been going there since they first open I brought iguanas, ball python and shit loads of fish. This how they treat the thre customers??? I hope this post stop people going there and just get rob on there prices. read more

Find and Fangs helped me get everything I need for my little patio pond. Employees were so helpful with picking plants to getting a pump. It's been 3 weeks now since I set up my indoor (patio pond) and it is thriving! The plants have all grown tremendously and are producing new leaves. The water hyacinth is so happy and my red melon sword just keeps making new leaves & flowers. I highly recommend going here they are super knowledgeable! read more

I didn't buy anything from the shop but they helped me with a turtle emergency! I found a turtle that had somehow gotten itself lost and ended up in my garden! I have zero turtle experience and was worried I would kill it, they told me what to do. the shop was kind enough to take the turtle for me when i couldn't find where is came from. The inside of the store was filthy, like there were plenty of spider webs. In addition, the fish and live stock doesnt seem to be taken care of. I saw a crab and it was swim in filthy water that had mold in it. The owners need tk do a better job of up keeping the place read more

I would highly recommend coming to Fins and Fangs for all your reptile and fish needs. We had a great experience here. They were able to answer all of my questions thoroughly. Everyone was very helpful in directing us what lizard would best fit our family. I'm very thankful we came here, because I almost got a lizard that would require a lot of work and maintenance. Love this spot. I grew up with fish tanks in my home since a kid and finally have my own space and time to start my own. I went to Petco and bought a tank and was asking genuine questions to get my tank going. Petco workers were extremely rude and not helpful at all. Worker seriously said, "I won't sell you a fish until you bring me water in that tests out good". Annoyed we left and googled fish stores near by. Found this lil spot. Walked in and was greeted so nicely... so many options and cool things to look at. All the workers are very kind and helpful and knowledgeable. We live in 29 but make the drive all the way here every time we need something big or small. Best bang for your buck and friendly faces! read more

Everyone in there was super nice and walked me through the care of my first snake. They helped me pick out everything I needed and answered all my questions very thoroughly. They also personally knew what my snake ate and had told me she was a good eater and that was the truth! Visited this tropical fish and reptile store this morning. Very good experience with knowledgeable staff. I am looking for a small aquarium for my home and they showed me a special had in two varities: fresh water and salt water. The fresh water tank was $149.00 all set up with gravel, pump, lights, fish and plants. It is a good deal. The shop is clean and the fish are well cared for. The reptile section was also very good. A vast selection to choose from. I will buy my aquarium and supplies from this store. They took the time to educate and provide me with the information to get started again. read more

I was lied to twice. First time shame on them, second time shame on me for believing them. That's the last time I'll be stopping in. Trust me when I say they don't carry nor order you "pinhead" crickets, the term "pinhead" is used for newborn crickets. This does not mean baby crickets. So please don't lie to your customers who were depending on you come across what you said you wold order them for me. I also ordered 1,000 of the to cover shipping too small of a order, but still they lied to me and gave me baby-f'n crickets. This was my experience with this establishment. I took my beardie Damien in today while I checked out the store for the first time. I had no idea this place existed for the 6 months I've lived in 29 Palms and I really regret it. I usually go to Pets Plus which is so subpar for my reptile needs, and to find a store that specializes in just fish and reptiles? Great! The owner was very nice, and even let my beardie try a couple dubia roaches to see if she liked them as opposed to trying to sell me a feeder I've never used to make a couple quick bucks (hint: every other pet store I've been to). The reptile enclosures look great and they all have the proper UV lighting which is something most pet stores lack and I can't understand why. Most reptiles NEED UV light but if you look at chain stores like Petsmart or Petco, you won't find any UV light in a bearded dragon's cage. Enough ranting about how bad other pet stores are...Fins and Fangs carries a large assortment of reptile accessories like lights, hoods, tanks, medicine, display rocks/branches, feeders, the list goes on. This is my new go-to store for sure. read more

I recently was gifted an established salt water aquarium (super exciting!) and last night was the first time I needed more RO water so I stopped in here on my way to dinner - the guys were super nice! They filled my jug and let me know when they'd be getting their next shipment of saltwater fish. I left a review on google about 5 to 6 months ago. It was negative , but honest. I.E. Smelly, uneducated employees, dead/sick product, and AC cranked up. Also told the locals in a Facebook group about my review and informed them of a different location. Jump 5-6 months later I decide to give them another shot. My thinking was "it's been a while. Let's find out". Not 30 seconds after I walk in the door. An employee (in front of customers) asks me, "you're that guy talking shit". Which I replied "uhhhh yeah, I guess." The employee then says "you're talking all that shit and you're in here right now" and before I could say anything he tells me "I ain't selling you shit". Which I replied "fair enough dude? Have a good one". So instead of taking my negative review with a grain of salt and trying to improve their business. I get cussed at and refused service. I'd also like to add that 5-6 months later the only thing that's changed is there was a loose pit bull freely walking around the store. Yet there's a "no dogs allowed" sign on the door. Anyway, I'll end with this. Just go to DHS. AO is much cleaner, knowledgeable, nicer employees, better product, and the list goes on. I've been in the fish keeping hobby for a long while now and I'm aware you're supposed to support your LFS. But unfortunately this LFS is not one that should be supported. . read more

Just found out this store sells "Painted Glass Tetras", which are fish that are tortured to add color to them. These are NOT Glo Fish, which are not tortured to be colored. These are little fish that people want to make an extra couple of dollars on so they inject them with coloring. This either tortures or kills the fish. Truly horrible and this store is supporting these horrible people by selling them! read more

I have been a customer for about 2 years. I went in about 2 weeks ago to get heating and lighting for a lizard terrarium. The young man seemed to be knowledgeable. When I asked for a hot rock, he said that they didn't recommend them, and didn't carry them. He then suggested a heating and lighting system made by Zoo Med. He said it was $89.95, but that he'd give it to me for $80. I took it. My mistake! I looked it up on the Zoo Med website, and they sell for less than $41 plus shipping. I love this store! I do mobile reptile shows, and whenever I am looking for new and exciting reptiles to add to my program, I can always find them here. In addition to the nice inventory of reptiles, they always have a full supply of crickets, worms and rats in stock.....( I can't say that about the big corporate chains.) I purchase crickets here for my toads. You get a better deal than PetCo and all of the crickets are actually alive. They sell rats for feeders but you may also purchase rats for pets. My mother purchased a beautiful blue haired rat with black eyes, as well as a snuggly hairless rat. I got a curly haired dumbo eared rat. I know some people are complaining about the lizard on the branch. Just to let you know, that lizard loves to swim so he/she has more room than you might assume. The employees have always been friendly towards me and are always happy to have my business, even if it is just a couple dollars worth of crickets. read more

The younger male owner is full of himself, dismissive and doesn't know what he's talking about when it comes to fish. He confidently said that fish I wanted to purchase from him would be safe with the fish I had in my aquarium at home--they weren't...and were soon killed. I later found information all over the internet that was contrary to his "advice". They have a back room (across from the aquaria) where they breed feeder rats and mice. Whether they are for food or not, they are inhumane conditions--never see light let alone sunlight. They are in black trays, with no enrichment or anything, with feed nuggets dumped on the screen above (the trays are probably no deeper than 6 inches) that they have to reach for or starve. Mothers are bred over and over...dumped with other mothers and babies...only to have their newborns/ "pinkies" torn away from them to then suffer the same fate litter after litter. I rescued two lizards off the local pet section--indigenous lizards taken from the wild (illegal). The people had told Fin and Fangs that they had captured the lizards from the wild--instead of telling the folks it's illegal and to release them...they gave the people wrong advice on how to take care of the lizards (ie wrong heating advice, wrong lighting advice, wrong terrarium advice, wrong media advice, etc). Clearly the personnel have no interest other than financial gain in living things and being experts in their "fields". I agree with other comments--the poor huge lizard that is relegated to a branch, day in and day out, hanging over water is a perfect synopsis of how poorly this store treats its beings. This store begs for business as "your local store"...but as a local resident I am not going to support any company that has such utter disregard for living things. read more

I love this place! Jordan (the co-owner) and his assistant Nikki are so helpful and informative and know exactly how to help with any worries or questions my husband and I have. They run a very clean operation and you can tell that they honestly care about each and every fish and creature in there! Employees out in the back smoking marijuana while at work with children present. Extremely unprofessional. Most staff are friendly and helpful but I would find another place or go online. I wish I could give negative stars! I recently purchased $5 of feeder fish from this store. The owner even talked me into buying $5 so I could receive a punch on their discount card. Well the next morning all the feeders were dead and my tank is now contaminated with ick. This caused my tire track eel that I have had for 10 years to die, a slow painful death. We returned to this store, only to be told that they had to dispose of all their goldfish due to the ick. The were not compassionate, they did not apologize, did not offer advice, nor did they offer to discount the solution we had to purchase to do a water change that their contaminated fish caused in the first place. I will never purchase from this store again and will be paying extra over at Petco for our feeder fish from now on. The have definitely lost my business and I plan to let everyone I know with pets that they really don't care about the quality of their business or about there customers. I am extremely disappointed with my experience with this store and there is nothing that can be done to bring my pet back to life. Never again Fins and Fangs. read more
