You can really tell how much attention, care, and work they put into giving their cats a good home. Every cat has to start somewhere, and STMM gives them a great environment to learn to socialize and adapt to not being in the dangerous situations that they were rescued from! I've watched many of their cats go from extremely anti-social to snuggly in their time with this organization. I have adopted two cats from them, and helped a roommate adopt one as well. They are extremely helpful and as long as you communicate, they give you a lot of grace throughout the adoption process! If you're not looking to adopt a cat, you're also just free to hang out and play with the kitties! I end up going just for a third space to do homework and stuff! They have snacks and drinks for sale that you can enjoy during your stay as well. They also have a ton of great goodies in the shop portion of the space, and you can even buy collars or accessories for the lounge cats to wear! Overall, I've never had a bad experience here. This place has been my escape when going through difficult times, and the staff are genuine people that will connect with you. I cannot recommend coming to this place enough!

That message validated the exact concern I raised in my original review, and I am even more upset now than I was before. I cannot understand separating an EXTREMELY bonded brother and sister, only to place one of those cats into another home with the expectation that she form a new bond with a different cat!? OF COURSE THE CATS DIDNT EXIBIT THE BEHAVIORS THEY WERE STILL SCARED it was less than a week are you kidding me?!! It's so clear to me this place just wants to turn the cats over and make a profit. This place pulls in almost half a million dollars per year and they DO take salary's - this is all public record. They're all about MONEY and NOT the cats. So after Bert upset me all over again with this info he then had the audacity to send me ANOTHER message less than 24 hours after I specifically asked him not bring this up again (see texts). And He did this after I asked him to pick up another cat he had left dumped at my home months ago....he then tried to BRIBE ME to take down my review bc ONLY THEN he would be willing to pick up the cat he left dumped at my house!! Evil. ...So Instead of simply handling that responsibility, he chose to bring up something he knew would upset me further and try to bribe me. Based on my personal experience, the person I dealt with privately is very different from the public image he presents as an animal rescuer. If you want me to take down my review, trying to bribe me isn't going to work..but he knew that he just wanted cut the wound deeper. I strongly believe this organization should also take a closer look at the people it partners with and allows to facilitate placements. When someone is also involved in the communication between fosters, adopters, and a rescue, their words, representations and conduct matters too. What happened to this bonded pair is heartbreaking to me and I'll never forget this. I trusted repeated assurances that they would remain together, and learning that Lois was placed elsewhere so she could bond with another cat only made the situation more disturbing. Her poor brother Charlie he was so obsessed with his sister Lois and i know he will always be looking for her. Bert V. also gave me one more assurance the day before pick up that he had also communicated with this rescue and that I had been promised the bonded pair would never be separated. **See pictured text message** Pathetic, cruel and backstabbing.

I went there today. November 4, 2025 to donate to the shelter as I adopted my dog BELLA Bumblebee…read more(as they used to call her there.) I met with Jennifer. There was another female employee there and a male employee who just smiled at me which was comforting. Jennifer was very patient, kind and understanding as I unloaded a big black garbage bag with Liz Claiborne huge bath sheets (unopened) so the dogs would have something to lay on, lots of sealed up food from Dr. Marty. Dr. Marty's Essential Blend and Tilly's Treasures as a food topper. I brought rope toys, stuffed animals and one of Bella's favorite unopened toy; a stuffed gator. I used to sing the song to her, "gator face, you've got the cutest little gator face, no one is ever going to take your place, gator face, You are my whole wide world, you are my cutest girl. Gator face, you are cutest girl around, you are my pretty girl you are my whole wide world you my pretty gator face! He was there for almost 3 years and eventually his match came along, but until then I volunteered to walk dogs every week. My experience of the shelter was it was a very friendly place for all animals. They took great care of their animals and I would highly recommend the shelter to anyone. I adopted my loving Dobie/Rottie mix, Lula, back in 2005 and she lived to be 16! I still have 2 cats adopted from them as well. I can't recommend this shelter more. There have been dogs in their care for YEARS until they finally found their homes and cats that were never adopted, but lived their entire life in the cat lounge. They were loved, warm in the winter, cool in the summer.

The biggest tip: unlike VEG Palm Desert I went to, pushing expensive tests after tests after tests before render any treatment, VCA Yucca Valley never pushed ANY expensive tests whatsoever, recommended but totally let me decide, all the other hospitals are like hard sales reps kept on pushing thousands of dollars of tests before render any treatment to my dog. Both myself and my daughter…read morecalled, (the "are too busy to care for kitties AND answer the phone, so please send a text"), so we texted, created an account online (because they want to know you're "actually serious" about adopting before you can even MEET the cat you're considering adopting.) (I do understand and respect prioritizing the mental health of the cats, but I'm sure the cats, especially the adults, would prefer a compromise, like being required to fill out a one page form on the spot before meeting). Every serious adopter that goes into a pet store and sees one of this organization's animals that they are interested in adopting and is told they have to go through this and this and this step before they can even interact with the cat and know if the personality is a fit. Everyone loses out. In my experience, even if you do go through all the steps, they won't call you back, and a cat that could have had a home I know had that opportunity taken from them because of the seemingly righteous or superior attitude of the rescue people. They surely know how many people go in and out of those cat and kitten rooms at the Animal Friends of the Valley shelter. Having a few people go in one at a time to meet one particular cat, I don't feel, is any more dangerous or unhealthy for the cat than them losing the opportunity to be adopted and eventually being put down. I just don't understand rescues like this. If you're too small to actually help, then let somebody else do it.

Mindy provided a very personable, warm and extremely responsive service, made every effort to respond to my inquiry on Adopt-A-Pet and approving my application as well as just answering my questions and chatting with me about my potential cat baby's personality traits and his background story. She responded to emails as late as 11PM on a weekend and her demeanor was always welcoming and reassuring, like an old, caring friend. Mindy's words and actions convey that she truly truly love all of her rescued cat babies and she only wants what's best for them and she works extremely hard to find them good homes. I was very sad that neither cat babies from her rescue matched the particular personality I was looking for (I was trying to fill this big hole in my heart with the tragic loss of a stray cat named Cookie I cared for) and I really wished that given all the hard work she and her daughter put into, I'd adopt either Teddy or Khabib. Despite these big, affectionate sweet boys were not the best match I was searching for, I don't think any less of them, I sincerely hope they will find their forever home they deserve and I cannot be more grateful for Mindy's time, patience and understanding she's extended me and my family. If I had more capacity for an additional cat baby in the future after finding THE ONE, Mindy and her rescue is the first place I'd check out. If you are also searching for your feline soulmate, please look no further!!
