I have been going to Zazen for 5 years since I have moved to DelCo. A mutual friend of the owner Tien and I had advertised on his page for her on Facebook. I have been getting lashes done by Tracy for five years, and I have gotten microblading and powder brows by Tien three years ago. I like the new reservation system. As soon as your appointment is made, you get an email and it automatically pops up in your Google Calendar. I like the paperless receipt that is emailed to you after you pay. Your credit card is saved on file. Tracy has been doing my lashes for five years and she consistently does a great job even when I ask for changes. Photo is fresh black and blue classic 60 minute refill done by Tracy yesterday. Brows done by Tien three years ago. The only thing is parking is street parking, but if you park a few blocks before you reach the salon on Gay Street, there is plenty. The ambience of the salon is trendy, clean and relaxing. I get my lashes done in the back private room. There is always music playing and shamefully enough, Tracy has listened to my snoring too many times. I love the products they sell in the front next to reception desk. I have bought some nice gifts like gift boxes of sheet masks. Got my gel nails Friday 4/20, and they're already cracked on 4/25, on more than one nail. I have actively avoided work that involves tough nails. This was Zazen's second chance to resolve their gel manicure problem, and I cannot reason paying for a $40 gel manicure when this type of thing happens less than a week later. The last time I complained and got a complimentary manicure, they did a phenomenal job; I wish they were consistent. I've come here for years and years. Mostly because it's convenient and you can make online appointments, not because of customer service, that's for sure. You barely if ever get a smile. On a few rare occasions, my gel nails peeled off within a week, do you think they would fix it for me, as a courtesy being that I've been a loyal customers for 6+ years and that gel is expensive and should definitely not peel off in sheets with no adhesion in one week, nope. They don't seem to care at all about good customer service and loyalty as no mater how much $$ I've spent there, they'll charge you no.matter.what. And waxing?! $34 for my lip, eyebrows and chin. It took 5 minutes and no plucking. Come ON! Really really super disappointed in this place. They'll keep losing good clients if they don't start focusing on the customer. read more

After hearing such positive reviews I decided I had to check out this gem. I'm a bit of a nail fanatic and am picky about my mani-pedi. I trekked out to West Chester and all my stress melted away when I stepped into Zazen. The inside looked like a spa, not like any other nail salon I'd ever been to. I opted for a Zen pedicure and gel mani. Pedi was first and it was top notch! Tiffany, my tech, was fabulous-gentle and very thorough. No pain when pushing or trimming cuticles, no aggressive filing, and a foot scrubbing worth talking about. My feet and legs were massaged with coconut oil then buffed and massaged with a sugar scrub. It was pure bliss. My gel mani was basic but spot on. Polish was applied evenly and looks smooth. Despite being a nail snob I have to say I'm super impressed with Zazen! All the girls working here were friendly and fun. They all spoke English well so there wasn't any miscommunication. Plus extra impressive brownie points for using Zoya nail polish, Farmhouse Fresh hand lotions, and Swedish Clover foot files. I love that she's very meticulous in putting my lashes and takes her time to make them look so perfect! I know that normally you need to come back 3 weeks for refill, but I say with her quality of work mine stays 4-5 weeks before I see her again. Zazen space is very clean, trendy and spacious! I have gone to Zazen for the past 6 years and love everything about this salon. The friendly staff, who get to know you by name and actually ask questions about your life, greet you at the door with a smile on their face. I've deviated from here once and instantly regretted that choice. My gels have always lasted me well past two weeks and their pedicures are incredibly relaxing. The nail techs are beyond talented and the few times I've gotten nail art I've been complimented everywhere I go on it. It always smells like lavender in the salon and never the nasty fumes you're used to in a regular nail salon. Brand new to West Chester and was looking for a place to get my brows down one afternoon. Amy did a good job on my brows, and I would give her 5 stars, but I was really discouraged with the service of the receptionist. Being new to the area, I wasn't familiar with the parking situation and when I asked on the phone where was best to park, she said, "it's just street parking." I was hoping for a "I would recommend parking on ____ street or ____ street, but it's metered, so anywhere around this area." Or something a little more helpful. As well, the service was mediocre when I arrived and left. I wasn't expecting a big hoopla, but something a little more than "what's your name?" And "your service was $13". I didn't feel like she did a good job selling the salon or wanting me to return. So, I like Amy, don't love the service as a whole. I just moved to the area and I was looking for a nail place to call my own. I stumbled across Zazen, based on Yelp reviews, and was immediately hooked. It exuded everything that I love about nail salons back home in Atlanta. It looked sophisticated, clean, and people raved about the customer service. I was excited when I made my appointment. I'm setting this all up because I need y'all to know that I really really wanted to like Zazen and I simply did not. As I stated before I'm brand new to this area; this one way street with limited parking enviroment is not something I am accustomed to. I called and let them know that I was figuring out where to park. I asked where the best place to park would be and the young girl on the phone said, " We have street parking. Hurry up." And so began my experience with Zazen. I walked in determined not to let the curt tone of the receptionist deter me from a relaxing nail experience. She showed me to my seat and gave me the nail colors. When she brought my tea I asked her if there was a nude color with pink undertones that she could recommend. She responded curtly (again, she's so great at that) that my nail tech would be here soon and tell me. Okay, so it was clear this girl wasn't going to be my buddy and I should drop the southern hospitality. My nail tech, Rosa, was so great. She was super nice and gentle with my nails. She entertained my indecisiveness with the nail colors and made sure I liked the color when she appied it to the first finger. I appreciated that. It really is the little things that cement good customer service for me. She gave me a hand massage which was just divine and I felt as though she took good care of my nails and hands. When I went up to pay with my card I added that I wanted to put a tip on the receipt and sharply told that tips were only accepted in cash. I reiterated that I would like to tip my wonderful nail tech and the curt receptionist obliged. Just a note: if someone is new to the salon there's a good chance that they have no idea Zazen only accepts cash tips. So an attiude at the invisible inconvenice of having to tip off of a card is completely uneccessary. Unfortunately, my issues with Zazen go beyond the young rude receptionist. The gel job I got done quickly deteriorated. I have a busy lifestyle which is why I always get gels done. These, however, were just not up to par. My nails chipped in two days. That doesn't even happen to me with shellac or a regular polish! Also, the color was cheap. It adopted a green hue and when I asked another manicurist about this (I immediately went somewhere else to get those wretched things off) she informed me that this happens with polish of poor quality that is put under UV light. I'm not fond of shelling out money for poor quality things. Other people came here and lucked out with the polish or weren't subjected to rude employees and seemed to have a wonderful experience. That's great! However, I came here and experienced medicore quality in service and polish. Is Zazen worth trying again? Is a second time the charm? No, not at all. read more

So, I really, really wanted to like Zazen. We booked our party far in advance - it was a pre-wedding group for my wedding in May. I gave two stars because the atmosphere is really nice for a bridal party - very clean and modern. However, I was completely unsatisfied with my manicure. I have gotten the color gel nail polish for about 3 years now - I know the process by heart, sadly. I picked my color and sat down, and while the woman who did my nails was nice, she was a bit brash and made me feel uncomfortable to say something when I knew the manicure was not turning out well. She cut my nails very short and my gel color was incredibly thick and clumpy. My pedicure was fine, within what is normal. But I wanted to cry because my wedding was in less than 48 hours and now my nails were very short and looked pretty bad! The next day I went to another nail salon in the area and had the gel removed and had to get tips done in order to make my nails look long and nice! The tech removing the gel nails that Zazen had done had to use one of the grinding machines to remove it because of how thick it was placed!!! It was a nightmare! Honestly, I think the experience at Zazen is nice for 1 or 2 people but if you are the bride, please tell them you want the best technician so you do not relive my nightmare!! read more

I made a reservation for five people and they took us on time, allowed for our group to sit with one another and the end results were fantastic. We had a blast.
