I recommend Dr.B. and his staff is great. The reason I am giving a 4 star is the wait for an appt. It's two to three months to see the Doctor. Once your in the office the appt. goes fast. The Doctor's knowledgeable and does not rush you. when it comes to problems with the digestive system he is a great Doctor. I recommend Dr B. The biggest problem for this office is that the doctor has an office in San Gabriel valley and one in La Canada. It has nothing to do with the front desk. I just made a "Phone" Appt. with Dr. Sarkisyan and its next week. The front desk answer on the second ring and were very helpful. Very disappointing office. 10 days ago, I had terrible cramping and discomfort of intestines and diarrhea and I was in a terrible shape. I asked for an appointment, they said the doctor can see you in May. With my situation I couldn't wait for so long. They gave me an appointment with the NP, Liya Sarkisyan. She was knowledgeable and nice. She sent me for some tests and said she will call me back in 2 to 3 days with the results. Never heard back from her, I called the office 3 times, left a message, I talked to the front office and left a message for the medical assistant, never got a call back. Today I called again, supposedly they left a message for Liya. Patient's life is not a game and the office needs to take it seriously. read more

Provided me with a step by step explanation on the procedures I was going receive and put all my concerns to easy. She is very knowledgeable and took my concerns about medications into consideration when providing the best treatment options for my condition. Both Dr. Babakhanian and Nurse Liya were patience, kind, and pleasant to me which made the entire process stress free. Dr. Zaree Babkhanian is a very good gastroenterologist. He is polite, attentive and knowledgeable. I am only giving 4 stars as the front office staff isn't that wonderful. There is one woman in particular who makes me feel uncomfortable. I won't put her name here at this time; hopefully I won't have to deal with her again, but if I do and she behaves poorly as she has been, then I will put her name so that people can be aware. I've spoken with her once in person and I shuddered at her tone. Then she called me to confirm an appointment some weeks later and was rough and quite abrupt; I just called her about some results and once again, she had the same attitude/tone. I like the doctor, but we have to deal with the front office staff which should always be friendly and welcoming; not so much in this office. read more

The entire experience, from the first phone call to my visit, was handled by staff that were courteous, professional, and extremely competent. The highlight was without a doubt Liya Sarkisyan, NP. I had a routine colonoscopy (I'm a 45yo woman - the new recommended screening age is 45) with Dr. Babakhanian a few days ago and the whole procedure and experience went well. His office ladies were very nice, his nurse was very nice and helpful in the pre-appointment, and Pasadena Colonoscopy center (where he performed the procedure) was great. Dr. Babakhanian was on time for the procedure, very nice and I had no complications at all (no issues). I do not need another screening for 10 years so that's great news. read more

This Review is not for Dr. Babakhanian, but for Liya Sarkisyan the nurse practitioner who works with him. I went in mid September after having felt sick and having severe acute gastritis and nasal congestion for weeks. I'm a nurse myself so I knew something was wrong. I went in and told her symptoms. Based upon my symptoms I asked to be tested for H. Pylori a stomach bacteria that can lead to ulcers and potentially cancer. She sent me for a breath test that came back negative. I then proceeded ask if the breath was as accurate as the fecal test. She brushed it off and said yes. Then advises me to take omeprazole twice a day. I've been taking it once a day for years, so not a new medication for me. She did not suggest any other tests other than endoscopy and colonoscopy which cost hundreds of dollars. That they couldn't even schedule me for weeks. I ended up getting a GI map done which cost $400 because I felt so terrible and need an answer/solutions as to why I was so acutely ill. The test results came in a week after sending my stool sample for the GI map test. H. Pylori was remarkably high. I contacted her and she sent a prescription for antibiotics. No apology for not properly diagnosing me and having in unnecessary pain. She apparently did not believe me enough to advocate and escalate the situation. I basically diagnosed myself. That is a complete shame. Listen to your patients' when they tell something is wrong (especially ones with a background in healthcare). I took the antibiotic for two weeks and felt like myself again. I finally decided to make an appointment with a GI doctor for upper abdominal pain that I've had for a while. I met the NP Liya for my consultation and she was very thorough and kind. She went over all my symptoms and history and made the whole process very easy. She explained everything in detail and I didn't feel rushed. She ordered the tests I needed and a couple of days later I met Dr. Babakhanian for my procedure. He had wonderful bedside manner and made me feel at ease. The procedure went smoothly with zero pain. This review is a little overdue but I wanted to say how impressed I've been with this office. I initially had my consultation with the nurse practitioner Liya. She was so kind and thorough, took her time and really listened to all the concerns I had. She made me feel really calm despite all the worries I had with my symptoms. She ordered all the testing I needed and followed up with results. I eventually saw Dr. Babakhanian for my procedure and he was awesome as well. He had excellent bedside manners and made me felt comfortable. Liya followed up with me a few weeks later and broke down all the biopsy results. I had a lot of questions about the findings but she took her time answering each one in detail and put my mind at ease. Overall I'm feeling so much better since being treated here. I truly cannot say enough great things about this doctor. To start off, he recently moved to a new office and his staff is really sweet and helpful with any questions you have. Scheduling an appointment was easy and simple, and I didn't have to wait to speak to someone. I've had some gastrointestinal issues for years and have lost track of the amount of doctors I went through, all of whom either misdiagnosed me or dismissed my symptoms. Dr. Babakhanian has been a life savior! He was able to get to the bottom of what was bothering me and I've been feeling better ever since! You can tell he's a really dedicated and compassionate doctor, and takes the time to explain what's going on, while patiently answering/listening to all your questions/concerns. It's really refreshing to see a genuine doctor that cares, is focused on helping you, and isn't rushing through to see the next patient. Dr. Babakhanian is my knight in shining armor! My PCP recommended him to me after months of severe diarrhea, cause unknown. Despite his busy practice, Dr. Babakhanian was compassionate and saw me right away after I told him I had been living with my condition for a long time. During the initial intake, Dr. Babakhanian was laser focused on discussing my symptoms and medical history. Time stopped as he intently listened. He was thorough, focused and rigorous in finding out the cause of my condition. During the endoscopy and colonoscopy, Dr. Babakhanian put me at ease. Unlike at other offices, the staff encouraged me to talk to him directly and not three people below him that would relay my concerns third hand. Since I met him, I have had total faith in Dr. Babakhanian. Through his actions, you can tell that he is a dedicated and caring doctor, a true professional. In fact, for each appointment I had, he made a special point to come to the office just so he could see me more quickly. I would highly recommend him to anyone struggling with a GI problem. Great doctor but staff sucks. Was ordered two specialty blood work panels with specific vials to take to the lab... everything was expired by 3 months!!! I just had my first appointment with Dr Babakhanian a few days ago, and I was so happy and grateful to have found a gastroenterologist in LA who is skilled and clearly up to date on his field of expertise PLUS a truly genuine, caring person. When I arrived, the office staff and nurses were super nice and helpful, and I was taken back for my appointment after only a five minute wait. The office is bright and clean, and the staff were super sweet with my 2 1/2 month old baby that I had in tow. They even offered me an empty exam room to use after my visit to feed and change my daughter if needed - so above and beyond kind and caring! Dr B came in just a few minutes after the nurse took my vitals and put me in an exam room. He greeted me warmly and spent the next half hour getting a thorough medical history and talking through my current symptoms. I have multiple gastrointestinal disorders and recurrent flare-ups, so there are a ton of details and factors to consider for treatment, and I've had plenty of doctors in the past get things wrongs, dismiss symptoms, etc. Dr B was on top of everything. He gave me great recommendations and agreed with me on the medicine I need for my current flare up. Additionally, he consulted with his colleagues and wanted to confirm with my pediatrician to ensure that the medicine would be okay while I'm breastfeeding. So important to me and appreciated! I recently was in need to switch and look for another GI doctor. The earliest available appointment was with the Nurse Practitioner Liya. I've been treated for my condition for a long time with my previous gastroenterologist who I was no longer able to see due to insurance changes. I was very nervous seeing somebody else, especially a Nurse Practitioner. I must say that my experience was absolutely excellent! The nurse practitioner was a true professional, and her expertise in the field was evident from the moment we began discussing my concerns. She was warm and welcoming, putting me at ease and making me feel comfortable enough to discuss some rather sensitive topics. She went over my treatment options with me, making sure I was fully informed and comfortable with the plan we agreed on. Throughout the visit, Liya was professional, knowledgeable, and compassionate, and I couldn't have asked for better care. Bottom line...Dr. Babakhanian is amazing! I've never been to a Dr. who spends as much time with you, asks questions and really cares about getting you better. I've been seeing him for a few months now as we are trying to get to the bottom of what's wrong with me. If you have a question you can e-mail him and he will ACTUALLY call or e-mail you back!! I have a complicated case and where most Drs. would have given up, Dr. Babakhanian is patient and understanding. I had to go through 4 doctors before I found Dr B and I'm so glad I did! My experience with Gastroenterology Associates has been supbar. I had a colonoscopy performed in mid-August. Biopsies had to be done as part of the follow-up from that procedure. It's now the very end of October, and I have yet to receive my test results. That is two and half months later - inexcusable. When I do call their office, no one ever answers and I end up on hold for so long that I have to hang up the call because I work during the day and can't sit around for a half hour waiting for someone to actually answer the phone. And while I can't seem to get anyone on the phone in order to receive my test results, their office has no problem calling me multiple times a week to remind me of the $100 I still owe them for the procedure. If you want a doctor's office that will follow up with you and where you can actually get a hold of someone - aka a doctors office that actually values patient care - look elsewhere. read more

I really liked Dr. Babakhanian, one of the most pleasant doctor experiences I've had. He is very personable and articulate, listens and explains well, and makes you feel really comfortable. He returns calls and takes whatever time is necessary to answer your questions. And as far as I can tell, he's done a great job with my procedures as well. No complaints, highly recommended. The only slight downside of the experience is the interface in the reception office. I hate calling because I usually have to spend several minutes on hold. I am so frustrated. My primary doctor referred me to Dr. Babakhanian. I was thrilled to see such great reviews for him and his office. I called yesterday and the office had already closed at 4:30pm. I am currently on hold - 25min so far and I am still on hold!!!!! This is ridiculous. If this office is this busy, then they need to hire a few more people to answer the phone or have a message line where you can leave a message and they call you back. But instead they play this awful music that is full of static. I am not feeling so positive about those reviews anymore. read more
