Dr. Berookim is a thoughtful, patient doctor with an amazing bedside manner. As someone that is afraid of illness and hesitant to see a doctor at all, he made me feel completely at ease and trusting of his recommendations in his office today. Can't recommend him enough. Same to his office staff who were cracking jokes -- I truly felt like everyone was on my team. One thing to note about him being out-of-network: many of the facilities he uses for procedures do take insurance which helps lessen associated costs significantly. Returning patients also pay much less than his initial fee. Your health is worth the cost of seeing the best and Dr. Berookim is certainly up there. read more

Given all these glowing reviews , this may be an outlier. This doctor is considered to be "The Best GI Doctor In LA" however my personal experiences with him don't reflect that mantra. I'm not sure if it was because I'm younger and thus less likely to return for more appointments , but Dr.Berookim seemed to rush with me and skipped over some tests he said he was going to take. Now , when you pay $400 for a consultation fee , one expects to find out what may be wrong with them , especially when visiting the "The Best GI Doctor In LA" right? Wrong. This doctor gave me a fecal test and antibiotics and sent me on my way. Didn't receive a follow up phone call after antibiotics were finished with advice to take probiotics and stay away from certain foods. Maybe he is the best GI doctor but likely only to his loyal and returning patients that he knows he will be profiting off of much greater. read more

I have had mysterious stomach problems, including extreme bloating, for years. The first GI I saw back in 2017 said he could tell something was sting but didn't know what it was. He sent me off with Zantac, never to contact me again. I gave up until a few weeks ago. Dr. Berookim suspected SIBO the first time he saw me. He sent me home with some tests, and turned out to be absolutely right. I'm currently on medication to treat the condition, which he's confident he can cure. His confidence is very assuring. I'm very impressed with Dr. Berookim and his colleagues. I've had a history of digestive issues; the usual MD would shrug and diagnose GERD/Acid Reflux and prescribe PPIs that did nothing. Went to see Dr. Berookim for my dad whose been suffering with GI issues for 20+ years. Super caring bed side manner, extensive knowledge, and on the cutting edge with lab testing for getting to the root of the underlying mechanism behind chronic digestive disorders. I am not sure how integrative his approach is, but I can tell you "he gets it" in the sense of balancing between lifestyle and the use of allopathic medicine. The doctor does not seem like a bad guy, but I had a really bad experience here, with the nurses in particular. I came here to take a breath test for SIBO and was given an inaccurate diagnosis. I had to figure this out myself by going over the protocol and numbers that were jotted on the result sheet and noticing she had done the math wrong. She had diagnosed me with the wrong type of SIBO. This error would've suggested I needed a completely different treatment which could've been harmful and totally unhelpful for me if I had not taken it apon myself to double check everything. I had to go back in to the office for another appointment and pay extra to see dr brookerim directly, just so he could fix their error and correct my diagnosis. Despite the incompetence from his staff, I did not even hear an apology, I was just quietly handed back my corrected results. I also decided to test for H. pylori to rule it out while I was there this time and was charged exponentially more than this test costs anywhere else. The whole thing left a poor taste in my mouth about this business and has kept me from going back. I since switched back to a naturopathic doctor who has been very helpful. Moral of the story: always double check and advocate for yourself, even when you might think you are going to a medical professional that you can completely trust! read more

Dr. Berookim is amazing and so kind, I went 10+ years without a diagnosis. Other GI doctors and specialists basically told me there was no issue despite being in the ER twice yearly. Dr Berookim figured it out immediately, recommended the appropriate tests and assured me that it was not normal to be vomiting that often. Just finished with a follow up visit with Dr. Berookim. His staff was pleasant as always and he took his time with me and answered all of my questions. I never feel Like I'm being rushed out of his office. Dr. Berookim is genuinely concerned about his patients well being. I had a phone conference to review the results of an endoscopy, colonoscopy, and biopsies and he literally took me on a journey throughout my system with excellent and easy to comprehend explanations. He even complimented me on my "thorough cleansing" :) He reviewed my current meds and suggested replacing one with his recommended choice. Appointment at 1130am and actually taken in to meet the doctor, shortly thereafter. Imagine that? Can't tell you how much I appreciate a physician who actually takes the time to get to know his patient and try to obtain a full understanding of the problem, like he managed to do in spending 20-30 mins with me. Let's start with the staff. Professional and courteous. I arrived very early and the sweet receptionist said she would do what she could to shorten to my wait. And sure enough, as soon as Dr Berookim was available, they brought me in to be seen. This was my first time in the office and I was thrilled that Dr Berookim was so attentive and caring. Dr. Berookim is an extremely thorough, no bs dr. I was due for an endo/colo and both he and his staff could not have been more accommodating. From the procedure to the post procedure appointment, everything went very well. The prep(which is always the worst part) was ordered by his staff and there was no charge for it and I picked it up at my local pharmacy. Best gastroenterologist in California!! We are so grateful that we found Dr. Berookim. My hubby was suffering from really bad stomachaches and we went on two separate occasions to the doctor and after running test they would tell us he was fine and nothing was wrong because everything was coming back normal. Since he didn't improve for a long period of time and we weren't convinced that nothing was wrong with him, we started to look for a new doctor. We finally found Dr. Berookim online and we decided to make an appointment. On the first appointment on that very same day, Dr. Berookim examined his tummy and ran tests. The very next day he called us to let us know what was happening and told us he needed strong antibiotic ASAP. To our surprise, before he called us he had already sent the prescription to our pharmacy on file and within an hour it was ready to be picked up. Now that's showing interest in your patients!! My husband's stomaches went away and he has improved tremendously. Something that we really appreciate is that if your appointment is at certain time he's there exactly at that time; he doesn't make you wait. He sits down and he actually listens to you carefully while he's looking right at your eyes (unlike other doctors who don't even look at you or just say "sure" "hmmm" "uh huh"), he doesn't rush in order to get to the next patient. Our first appointment lasted about 45 minutes and the follow up about 30 minutes. Also, he takes his time to explain to you with pictures what's going on and what the medication is for. At the front desk there is a girl named Bianca, she was very nice and accommodating. The first time I called I wasn't sure if they would take our insurance or not so she took my information and she took it upon herself to call our insurance and check it they were on our network, that is what I call service! For these and many other reasons we are so thankful that we found Dr. Berookim and we don't mind driving 3 HOURS and 45 MINUTES to get excellent medical services, to us is soooooo worth it :) read more

I really wasn't happy with my GI Doctor and made the appointment to see Dr. Berookim. Best choice I've ever made. Nice office easy to find. His staff works like a well oiled machine, they are extremely professional when your scheduling an appointment or need to talk to them. (I've been to 5 other GI doctors) Dr. B is actually human and really cares about his patients. He did all the proper testing, then prescribed medications. He did personal follow ups which was great. I completely understand why Dr. B has 5 stars, and while yelping a medical doctor seems weird- I feel it necessary to do so. Let's start with how cool he is. He's approachable, funny and kind. But all that does not take away from his professionalism. While he is kind, he also knows his **it (pun intended). He has a wealth of knowledge, asked questions up the wazoo (another pun- your welcome) and takes his time with his patients, providing them with information and knowledge. He was concerned about my symptoms and recommended a procedure which ended up preventing what could have been catastrophic had I waited too long.
