A local Pilar that keeps going strong. It's been a while since we visited so we made the trip out. The chipotle bean dip is fabulous and a paired match with the chips. The red posole lean tender meat with a flavorful broth. Best description is demure. It's tasty but not over spiced. The chorizo eggs and beans made wifey smile. Try the chile verde. The food and service is great. Since trying this spot about a month ago, we have been back twice. I have tried Albondigas, Chorizo breakfast plate and breakfast burrito. All were delicious. The chips are so addicting because of the seasoning on top. I am a bit picky with my chorizo and now has now become my favorite spot for chorizo. It was decorated very cute inside with pumpkins everywhere (I was there Nov 1). There were plenty of tables available & didn't feel crammed at all & the place felt clean. Ordered a quesadilla for my daughter, but she didn't end up eating it (she was tired) so idk how it was but it looked fine. My m.i.l got a torta with asada she said it was okay, not bad but not her fave. The chips & salsa are sooo tasty. The seasoning on the chips alone is great but with the salsa, it's just so satisfying. I got a carnitas plate & it was sizzling when they brought it out! Yum! So so so good, I'd absolutely come back for that same plate. I got it with no onion, but ordered one to go for my hubs & got that one with onions and it was even better. My only complaint was that my server didn't come back to check on us after I got my food... I had asked for flour tortillas & got corn but she never came back for me to tell her & I had to go to the front to ask for a container & place another order to go & to find someone so I could pay... but I'd still come back cause the food was great. read more

Went in on Easter Sunday, despite the place being full the service to sit us down was quite the turn around, but being there and seeing how full it was, it made me feel that I was at a great place already. Everyone seemed to be happy working there and the customers enjoying the food . I got the Menudo and my husband got that chile verde plate it was delicious everything. Very disappointed with the service. Our waitress completely disregarded a concern we had, walked away and completely ignored the concern. When we asked her to remove the plate from the table she just picked up but just walked away without saying anything to us. She didn't try to make it right or even apologize for the plastic being in our food. She seemed more bothered that we pointed it out. My husband ordered pozole with pata (you have to request the pata) he says that the pozole was insipid and the ground chili available on the table did not help. He says it was not chile de árbol, so it was not spicy at all. He recommends they check what chile they are using. I ordered Chicharrones divorciados and we asked for more chips because they were really good. The salsa for the chips is good and kid friendly. Too bad their aguas frescas are not made there, they are from a mix. Service was attentive and friendly. read more

Zapien's sits right in the corner of a busy little strip mall where you can also find a meat market, a little juice bar, and a pharmacy. It caught my eye while looking for Mexican food by my bnb because it has some decent reviews here on Yelp. Let me tell you, it really does live up to the reviews. The carne asada inside my taco was perfection. It's like they got the perfect sear on it and then cut it up into smaller pieces so it's easier to chew for a more pleasant eating experience. The rice and beans both tasted fresh and homemade. The chips and salsa were absolutely delicious. You could tell they were both homemade and fresh. The chips were very fresh, warm, and seasoned nicely. The salsa has a roasted pepper taste to it that is to die for. The service was a little slow for their not being many people dining inside, but overall, the employees were very nice and the food made up for any little inconvenience. Service was Amazing. As soon as you sit they bring you chips and salsa and take your drink order. I got the enchiladas suizas(they come with chopped chicken breast so make sure to ask for shredded chicken) my man got the carne con chile verde. I would rate here 5 stars on the chips and salsa alone. The Chile Verde plate and carne asada tacos were both cooked perfectly with perfect flavor. The rice and beans are some of the best I have had in the longest time. Breakfast is served all day, which is exciting. So to start off the food here was amazing my 1 star to this place is strictly going to a certain worker there that i personally had a bad experience with i believe her name was Bertha she was really rude and mean i would never want her to serve us again on top of that i even seen her being mean to one of her fellow co worker from what i saw he was helping the customers fine she went over there and asked the customers if he was buggin them and that she was sorry he doesn't know what he's doing very unprofessional. If you want authentic Mexican food, this place has it all. The food was delicious. The service was responsive and the aesthetics was not overwhelming. It's large, to huge areas so you don't feel cramped. Ample parking, it's in a strip mall. I received my food quickly. I ordered three beef tacos that came with rice and beans. There was nothing left on my plate. Everything tasted fresh and my taste buds were delighted. And of course they provided a generous amount of chips and salsa. The chips were flavorful and fresh! Zapien's has been a staple in this community for many years and we've been here on several occasions. We came here for Sunday Brunch and I love that they service breakfast till closing. We shared a bowl of menudo, which was good and it come with handmade tortillas. They also bring free warm seasoned chips and salsa, both delicious. I ordered the bolillo French toast with over medium eggs and bacon. The bolillo French toast was soaked in cinnamon and vanilla cream, sprinkled with sugar powder, and came with maple syrup. My dish was pretty amazing, full of flavors, and pretty very innovative. We love this spot, come here often, and will be back. I do enjoy their food. However the last time we were in, I was so upset over the customer service I received over sour cream, I don't ever want to go back. For starters they didn't put much sour cream on the taquitos(I should have got photo). So I asked the buzzer (young boy) I don't want that much just literally add a bit more. I'm not asking for extra to dip my chips in. He CHARGED me $3 TO bring me a dollop extra lol. So just beware they're cutting back on amounts they are giving which makes no sense being they raised menu prices. I believe for good customer service he could have found a tiny bit more sour cream and a fraction of the cost I get you gota charge but first off you need to put the appropriate amount on from the start...75 cents ok but 3 Bucks I can go by a whole container vs a the dollop he did bring back for me. I went there for the first time on a Sunday. It was packed! My friends took me there after we got back home from a short road trip. Pretty sure we were all hungover. We decided to get shrimp cocktails since we've enjoyed them in the past. This time, we were disappointed. We ordered 3 shrimp cocktails and ALL of them had shrimp that were obviously cut in half to make it appear to be a lot instead of serving the full size shrimp like in the past.
