When we visited, it was pretty quiet--only one other customer was there. We ordered an asada torta and a shrimp burrito, and the food came out quickly (about 8 minutes), which was a plus. I'll be honest--the torta threw me off a bit. It had ham in it, which I wasn't expecting, and the flavor just felt a little unusual to me. I love fish tacos, and while I used to go to a popular spot in El Monte, Dom always raves about Baja Mar and told me to come here instead. I finally made it, and I'm so glad I did! I ordered five tacos - yes, I know, but I can't resist good tacos! Being there on a Monday, I took advantage of the $1.69 shrimp tacos special. I ordered two shrimp tacos, two fish tacos ($3.30 each), and one Papa Taco ($2.40). Overall, all the tacos were good. The shrimp tacos were a bit heavy on the batter for my taste, but they were still pretty good, especially at that price. I wouldn't order them again unless they're on special. The Papa Taco was unique, featuring a crunchy shell with a mashed potato, cheese, lettuce, and tomato filling - it was pretty good. The fish tacos were the best of the bunch, with a nice batter and flaky fish. I would order them again.I appreciate that each taco order comes with a pepper on the side; it has a nice, subtle spice that kicks in at the end. I also like the salsa bar with fresh red and green salsas, pickled onions, and limes. However, the small cups for the salsa slow down the process. While I understand the desire to reduce waste, filling so many little containers to get enough salsa for your tacos creates a line at the salsa bar.Also, there are no napkins on the tables. I spilled salsa on my fingers while using the tiny containers, and I couldn't find any after searching the restaurant. It seems they only provide napkins with the food. I observed other customers asking for extra napkins, and it's quite inconvenient to not have them readily available. The tacos were excellent, so I ordered a to-go order of four - two shrimp and two fish. I appreciate that they package the tacos well with foil, and they were neatly arranged in the bag. However, I was disappointed to find no peppers included, especially since I had 3 peppers with a previous order of 5 tacos. I would have expected at least two peppers with my order of four.Because of a mix-up with the peppers and the lack of napkins, I'd rate it a 4 out of 5. I felt they were a bit stingy with the napkins and salsa. I was a little disappointed with that. Updating to let everyone know that their salsa cups are the TINIEST sizes ever. I brought in a bigger container to fill for a large group order (almost 20 tacos) and I was reprimanded and asked to use the tiny containers. I had to fill each sauce cup (about 20 total) and held up the entire self serve bar during prime lunch rush hour. This was really inconvenient and left me scolded for trying to fulfill my order. I understand salsa being limited, however, for large group orders, there should be a much bigger container to accommodate the group. Baja mar is not good for groups. read more

I haven't been here for a while but good remans the same. I got a burrito de Cameron enchilado and it was delicious, every bite had a shrimp or 2, it did fall apart since it was so big, but that was ok because I ended eating it with the fork! My hubby got cocktail de Cameron and the flavor is so GOOD and had ALOT of shrimp as well. We also ordered the tacos de Camerones empanados and they were ok, that's why a 4. Trying this spot my daughter has been telling us about. They have a friendly service and good prices. It's a chill spot kinda hidden in a small shopping center like by papa John's. Everything was really good. They flavor was on point good portions to get full on.
