My girlfriend wanted chilaquiles and someone recommended this place. Girl on the counter was rude, no social skills because she seemed bothered for having to deal with pesky customers. Although it is very common for restaurants to put the person with the least amount of customer service skills on the front, this restaurant takes the cake. Then we get our chilaquiles (I got red, girlfriend green), I realized they used cheese similar to Monterey or mozzarella (white grated cheese) on our food. Now, I my family is from Guadalajara and DF, we don't use that cheese on chilaquiles soni was very disappointed because I immediately hated the food. We ate because we had already paid but I didn't like it and my girlfriend told me we should've gone to El Guajillo or La Casa de la Abuela in Huntington Park even though we live in Whittier. Steaming hot off the grill. Wish I had a pic of the cheese pull. I got the classic chilaquiles divorciados, which are not spicy what so ever. The cashier will ask if you want them spicy or not. A hidden gem in Rivera to say the least . While they do have a limited menu the food is not limited in flavor and taste ! At first glance we noticed a line outside there's no reservations you basically just stand in line first come first served . The line moved quickly which was a good thing . As we can in we noticed a unique and inventive concept a restaurant in one side of the front and the other side with its individual doors a bakery . The restaurant was spacious and inviting several customers with families enjoying good traditional food. Ok so before we came here we heard about how good the food was so now I had to try it out for myself . I ordered chilaquiles divorciados (means two different sauces a green side and red ) spicy of course and a red chilaquiles traditional (non spicy) . Queso quemado (a burnt cheese chicharon that is a must to try and a taco with nopales , pork chops , chorizo and onions . The chilaquiles were crispy and not drowned in sauce with over easy eggs and steak (you can get different types of proteins sick as chorizo , chicken , steak and pork chops) cream cheese and of course a delicious sauce . These were a hit and loved it ! The taco was just ok and not really my favorite but still okay . The coffee was amazing they had self serve cafe de olla and regular coffee . The bakery is an added plus since I was able to get a fresh baked sweet bread to enjoy my coffee. Over all a good experience and a tasty one . If you're a chilaquiles lover, this spot is a MUST. I finally checked out Taquearte in Pico Rivera and wow... I get why people hype this place up. The chilaquiles are the star of the show. The tortillas are fried so they stay crispy even after being covered in salsa, and the flavors are bold and super authentic. I tried the chilaquiles with meat and eggs and every bite was packed with flavor. The salsa has a really nice kick without overpowering everything else. The tacos are also solid, especially the campechano style with different meats combined. Everything tastes fresh and made with care, and the portions are generous. It's a smaller spot and it can get busy, but the food is definitely worth the wait. If you're in the Pico Rivera / Whittier area and craving legit Mexico City style tacos and some of the best chilaquiles around, this place is worth the stop. My wife and I came for the first time yesterday. We both really enjoyed the Chilaquiles. She ordered the mild and I ordered the hot. We both had them with eggs and chorizo. My wife felt hers were too mild and not as flavorful, but the server recommended that when we order next time that she ask that her order be more spicy, but not the traditional hot serving. This suggestion was great to know for our next trip. By far one of the best I've had out in a restaurant. The customer service was fantastic. They were extremely friendly and took fantastic care of us. There's plenty of seating, but I can't see that it does get crowded for a reason. The line out of the door isn't too long of a wait if you're not in a hurry or super hungry. I got there around 11:30-ish on a Saturday morning and it was pretty busy! I wanna say I maybe waited around 30-ish minutes in line. The menu is simple and to the point, which is nice because no one likes a super overwhelming menu. I will say, they should consider an iced coffee option. I ordered the chilaquiles verdes Classicos, which are non spicy and with an over easy egg. The egg was a little on the tougher side texture wise, I'm super picky with my eggs though. The cafe de olla could be better, does not have the spice punch taste I normally get with cafe de olla. This is a personal preference but I was looking at the health grade (after I sat down), and they had a letter B. Now I'm super big usually on checking this, but didn't this time and that also might have slighted my judgement. The chilaquiles aren't anything special in my opinion! Overall I'd give it 7/10. The food here can be good, but overall the experience is very hit or miss. I've been here a few times now, and the quality of the food varies quite a bit. One visit the food is really good, and the next time the chicken is under-seasoned and the overall quality just isn't the same. The consistency definitely fluctuates. Another issue is that it's basically impossible to place a take-out order over the phone. They answer the phone, immediately put you on hold, and then forget about you. Every single time I've called, I end up waiting around 10 minutes before realizing no one is coming back to the phone and I have to hang up. Because of that, I now have to drive there in person just to place my order. Then when you finally place the order and get your food, you get home and realize they got the order wrong. Normally mistakes happen and it wouldn't be such a big deal, but when you're paying around $50 for two plates, accuracy and consistency shouldn't be this much of a problem. I went in because of the hype, but this plate was honestly disappointing. This was supposed to be red chilaquiles with NY steak and chorizo, but the execution fell very short. The chilaquiles were overly watered down, lacking the richness and depth you expect from a proper red sauce. Instead of being saucy and bold, they were soggy and diluted, almost like the sauce had been stretched too thin. The "NY steak" was the biggest letdown. What was served looked no different than a generic beef steak cut thin, uneven, and lacking the texture or quality you'd expect from an actual New York strip. If you're advertising NY steak, the cut and presentation should reflect that. This did not. The chorizo was acceptable, but it couldn't save the dish. Overall, the plate looked sloppy and rushed, especially for a place that gets so much praise. That said, I'm willing to give them one more try, because everyone can have an off day. But based on this experience alone, I would not recommend it outright.
