LA Times lead me to Taquearte California as a chilaquiles lover. After reading the article about this restaurant, I knew I had to visit. Thankfully one of my good friends lives in the area and vouched for it; so we gave it a try on a Sunday morning. The line was long but not too bad, I waited about 30 minutes. It's one of those places where you order at the counter first then grab a table. I tried their rojos chilaquiles and it was very good with a kick (despite it saying not spicy). The chips still had a nice crunch and I felt the portions were generous. I also ordered their bistec taco and that really good. I was surprised at the portion because one taco could easily feed two people. It also has some nice potatoes with it which filled me up. I would definitely visit this restaurant again if I'm in the area. It was a good find from the LA Times!
Authentic Mexican food and SO good! Their specialty is chilaquiles, and they definitely did not disappoint! I ordered the spicy Picositos Verdes and the chicharrón de queso--both were delicious! The staff was super friendly, the restaurant was spotless, and the AC was flowing (a must!). I also loved the cute little tables and the unique location inside the old Duran Bakery, with the original sign still up. Such a cool touch! Definitely worth checking out if you're craving authentic Mexican food!
My wife was craving for delicious mouth-watering chilaquiles any kind of style from traditional or fusion even vegetarian or vegan no matter what I will find a restaurant that serve chilaquiles. I remember a video a restaurant serving chilaquiles but in Pico Rivera,I using Yelp to find the restaurant bingo found it the restaurant called Taquearte California/Duran Mexican Bakery in one building. The restaurant cross between Rosemead Blvd and Beverly Blvd in shopping center on the left there's plenty parking on the street. Found parking just walking distance from the restaurant right ways we notice the restaurant is packed but there's a sign to have a seat and wait. We got a staff member hand a menu and order to the cashier. We look at the menu then we notice people were coming in and getting in line behind us. My wife order the Verdes classics not spicy with a egg on top. I order the same item but with egg and steak m,the eggs and steak are $4.50 each then we order our drinks she got Jamaica and I got a Mexican Coke both are refreshing with a meal are having. We're surprise our meals just arrived at the table so quick my wife couldn't wait to tasted the chilaquiles she love the chilaquiles she this were the best chilaquiles I ever tasted she please. First the chili Verde sauce amazing good so much flavor with right citrus acid in sauce that make the sauce good,but chips were crunchy and hold up to the sauce and cheese add more intense flavors to the dish with egg make everything creamy with Yolk it so good. If like chilaquiles you need to come to Taquearte California in Pico Rivera. The staff at the Taquearte California were amazing great with patience and friendly we also give thanks to the cooks and the staff in kitchen thank you.
Found this spot while looking for local traditional Mexican breakfast places. It's tucked into a small strip mall, a little hidden, but the place itself was definitely busy. It's a combo dine-in restaurant and pan dulce bakery, and it seems like the chilaquiles are the popular item or least it's main item and tacos. We ordered one red and one green chilaquiles plate, both with steak. The food came out pretty fast, and the ordering process was smooth. I really liked the flavor of the verde chilaquiles, but the steak was unfortunately very dry and tough. The highlight for me was definitely the pan dulce fresh and really good. I'd come back for the bakery items alone.
Best chilaquiles ever. Went for some lunch - been craving for some chilaquiles so ordered it, added eggs, carne asada, and green sauce. It was pretty pricey (over $20) but was freaking delicious. Everything was cooked to perfection, nothing was oily, the green sauce was tangy and flavorful, and there was the right ratio of chips, sauce, cheese, eggs, and meat. Would def be back.
The B rating was scary but the food turned out to be very tasty. We had the chilaquiles were crispy, half red half green sauce with eggs and streak. Cafe de olla and an horchata. My boyfriend said to mention the chairs are hard haha I'd come back again regardless of the hard chairs.
Definitely worth it! The chilaquiles are one of the best we have had! We ordered both the green and the red ones with over medium eggs. The green ones were spicier and very flavorful!!! You could really taste the tomatillo flavor. The red ones were also tasty. I ordered the medium ones just in case they were too spicy but not spice at all. I will definitely ordered the hot ones next time! We also ordered the mollete with chorizo and cheese!! Another great dish!!! All the right flavors!!! Service is good. They greet you and ask if dining in or for take out. We ate there so she assigned us a table and said to order first then we sit down. Very efficient and quick ordering system. Lots of tables available to sit at. There are three sections available.
First off if you're a fan of chilaquiles then I have a found place for you.. This place was amazing! I ordered the chilaquiles verdes picositos with an egg over easy and chorizo... Wow! Amazing, the sauce chip ratio was perfect.. The sauce was so flavorful coupled with the chorizo that wasn't too greasy was the perfect compliment! The small batches of hot sauce were ... Service was awesome, courteous and friendly staff which were friendly and attentive! The ambiance of the place is quaint, one side is the restaurant and the other side a bakery panaderia. Sooo after you finish your meal you can slide over to pick up some conchas (sweet bread) and cafe de la olla.. Perfect compliment!
All I got to say is Meahh, I actually liked the Wet(drenched in sauce,green or red) you can get the sauce on the side, Steak Quesidilla(I suck at spelling). It was tasty but lacking something. I am very picky with my Mexican food, something was just off. I had green sauce I poured over my quesidilla and the sauce was really good. They also had HOT PICANTE salsa if you like that stuff. It freaking burns my mouth lol, but was fresh. The steak was quality meat, but lacking in quantity. It's a better meat than Carne asada meat people usually use to BBQ, ** fun fact. you can use different meats when BBQ or eating "CARNE ASADA", Carne asada just means grilled meat, the meat could be flank steak skirt steak and others. My mom had the chiliques, it's like cut up enchiladas with an egg kn top. She did not care for it, but she is super picky. Well the service was good and the food was fresh and authentic. It was $16 for my steak quesidila which was ok. ***THEY CLOSE AT 3PM so bewarned. They also have a limited menu, I took a pic in my review. I would go again, but not often, it's worth trying if you want chiliques, that is their speciality. Well happy eating
A hidden gem in Rivera to say the least . While they do have a limited menu the food is not limited in flavor and taste ! At first glance we noticed a line outside there's no reservations you basically just stand in line first come first served . The line moved quickly which was a good thing . As we can in we noticed a unique and inventive concept a restaurant in one side of the front and the other side with its individual doors a bakery . The restaurant was spacious and inviting several customers with families enjoying good traditional food. Ok so before we came here we heard about how good the food was so now I had to try it out for myself . I ordered chilaquiles divorciados (means two different sauces a green side and red ) spicy of course and a red chilaquiles traditional (non spicy) . Queso quemado (a burnt cheese chicharon that is a must to try and a taco with nopales , pork chops , chorizo and onions . The chilaquiles were crispy and not drowned in sauce with over easy eggs and steak (you can get different types of proteins sick as chorizo , chicken , steak and pork chops) cream cheese and of course a delicious sauce . These were a hit and loved it ! The taco was just ok and not really my favorite but still okay . The coffee was amazing they had self serve cafe de olla and regular coffee . The bakery is an added plus since I was able to get a fresh baked sweet bread to enjoy my coffee. Over all a good experience and a tasty one . I've been here twice in the last two weeks so I guess I liked it and so will you!
When arriving, a server instructed us to wait outside and she would call us in to order as tables cleared up. This is not your typical restaurant where you sit down and wait for your order to be taken. Once you order, you look for an open table and sit down. It took about 10 mins or so for our food to get to us since it was made fresh, it was worth every minute of waiting! When the food came out, the first thing was the Quesadilla. Steaming hot off the grill. Wish I had a pic of the cheese pull. I got the classic chilaquiles divorciados, which are not spicy what so ever. The cashier will ask if you want them spicy or not. Since it was our first time there, I wanted to enjoy the food. We also got a side of scrambled eggs and chorizo which was not spicy at all. The food overall was super delicious and had the perfect amount of salt. Most places I've been to have either little to no salt or too much. The staff is super friendly and polite. The restroom is forever everyone from what I noticed and is very clean. They play music that isn't too loud where you have to yell to hear your party speak. I would definitely come back.
Chilaquiles here are decent (pasan) not the best I've ever had but good enough to keep coming back if you don't feel like making them yourself at home. It's very difficult to find a good Chilaquiles spot. Many try but fall short on something and it's usually the sauce and meat quality. Taquearte since day one has been consistent with their plate presentation & flavors. Staff is friendly and does their best to get orders out as quickly as possible. Like I said in the beginning not my number 1 spot for Chilaquiles but my number 1 spot closed down. Taquearte for now slid into number 1 by default. In the beginning the wait time was pretty long depending on the day. Honestly their serving system was a little unorganized and chaotic. You couldn't put in phone orders or do takeout without waiting in the line of the patrons waiting to dine in. The restaurant is small and ownership finally recognized the need for more seating and since have added extra seating and changed their takeout ordering system. Very much appreciate the extra seating and takeout ordering system. Don't get me wrong about this place. Food is delicious and I won't take that away from them or down play the yummy-ness of the Chilaquiles. Come try it out yourself.
Not too bad but it can be a little pricey. My husband said the chilaquiles verde picoso was ok. We paid $32 for 1 coffee and 1 chilaquile verde with chorizo, 2 eggs and a small piece of meat. A little pricey for my taste. Service is just ordering at the cashier and you find your own seat. The menu is very small but my in-laws love this place.

Absolutely delicious and authentic chilaquiles! The perfect little hole-in-the-wall spot with super friendly workers and food that came out fast, fresh, and HOT. It's not your typical restaurant, but it was very clean, cute, and welcoming. I enjoyed my food so much and would definitely come back! Highly recommend if you're looking for delicious, authentic Mexican food. Came from a recommendation from my husband's brother and did not disappoint. read more

This place is amazing!!! Had the best chilaquiles that I've had in years. And the actually made my eggs the way I wanted them. My friend got the chilaquiles with meat, she got the spicy and I got the classic. The red ones were my favorite, the green ones were good too but I prefer the red one. I highly recommend that when you go try chilaquiles dovorciados so you can try both types. Next time I go for sure I'll be getting the red ones. read more

This location in Pico Rivera is definetly popular for a good reason. I tried their quesadillas and it was okay, handmade tortilla but a little too much onion for my liking. The chilaquiles are my favorite. I like how you can customize the sauce from red or green to spicy or not. You also have the option of different proteins. It is a small location but they are quick to bring food out. If going on a weekend you are looking to wait a while but it is worth it. read more

I tried the non-spicy red chilaquiles with steak, and they were so good! The steak was flavorful, and the chilaquiles had just the right amount of sauce without being spicy. The service was fast, which made the experience even better. I also love that they have a bakery right next door--it's the perfect place to grab something sweet before you leave. Tried green (spicy) chilaquiles, over easy eggs on top, also tried red (non spicy) chilaquiles. Over easy eggs on top, both were delicious, prepared well, tried cafe de olla, tasty, I recommend visit them during the week, waiting time for table is 5 minutes, weekends that can easily be over an hour, serving staff is very helpful and friendly, lady taking orders is very matter of fact, not the friendliest person in the world read more

If you're a chilaquiles lover, this spot is a MUST. I finally checked out Taquearte in Pico Rivera and wow... I get why people hype this place up. The chilaquiles are the star of the show. The tortillas are fried so they stay crispy even after being covered in salsa, and the flavors are bold and super authentic. I tried the chilaquiles with meat and eggs and every bite was packed with flavor. The salsa has a really nice kick without overpowering everything else. The tacos are also solid, especially the campechano style with different meats combined. Everything tastes fresh and made with care, and the portions are generous. It's a smaller spot and it can get busy, but the food is definitely worth the wait. If you're in the Pico Rivera / Whittier area and craving legit Mexico City style tacos and some of the best chilaquiles around, this place is worth the stop. Definitely coming back to try more from the menu. read more

I recently stopped by for some Mexican food and overall had a pretty good experience. The serving sizes were great and definitely worth it. The prices were fair for the amount of food you receive. The chilaquiles were honestly very delicious and full of flavor -- definitely my favorite item we tried. Unfortunately, I would not recommend the quesadilla. My son did not enjoy it very much. As for the service, it was not the most welcoming experience. The staff mostly stared at us, which made me feel a bit uncomfortable during our visit. this change the atmosphere. The songs were very catchy. The music is amazing, but the steering problem was uncomfortable. Nevertheless, the food itself was enjoyable enough that I do look forward to coming back again and trying more items from the menu. read more

This place is smack your momma good! The chilaquiles here are sooo deliciously spicy. I left with a huge smile and a full belly. We ordered one of each of the red and green ones with eggs and steak. The steak was perfectly cooked. The eggs were a little under but cooked with the hot salsa. The flavor of both salsa were on point! My favorite was the red. It's a small place and you order first then sit. It gets packed during breakfast and lunch! Service was great too. Its place is definitely meeting the hype and worth the wait! read more

The chilaquiles were absolutely terrific, including the extra spicy ones! The green and red sauces were tasty and the tortillas stayed crispy maintaining the perfect texture and flavor balance, especially with the queso fresco crumbles. The added over-easy eggs and carne asada rounded out a truly amazing meal!! This one stays in the rotation!! read more

Absolutely 10/10. No lie. Delicious , home made , flavorful just good . First time this Sunday morning with my daughter n law and we both loved our food. The spicy red flavor and the chorizo hits with the chiliquiles!!!! The flavors of all salsa were perfection , service was good as they were busy by 9 am we were seated on the side Patio which was nice for the breeze , not a fancy place just come for delicious food. Bakery inside with fresh breads and pan Dulce were very good bought some to take home. The reviews were spot on go see for yourself. Gets busy go early. read more

The chilaquiles here are by far my favorite! The Classic Green Chilaquiles are not too spicy but still have some spice to it for a delicious flavor and small kick. The chicken is so good with it, but I can't wait to try the steak one day because someone next to me had it and it looked so yummy. The service was pretty quick today, I have came before on a busy day where the line is out the door. Taquearte having a line out the door is no surprise because this is one of my favorites. The mini bolios were so soft and dipped in the green salsa is amazing. The jamaica was so refreshing and not too sweet. The inside has plenty of seating to enjoy your meal inside and it is not too loud and you can still have a conversation and eat comfortably. The crew also cleans up very quick after someone leaves. read more
Been here about 4 times now and everytime I am blown away. The chilaquiles are phenomenal and most likely my favorite in LA. Personally like the chorizo. Food was delicious! When you walk in if there's a line someone greets you with their menu so you're ready to order when you get to the cashier. The house music makes it that much better for the vibe. We sat at a table with a mirror so it was fun to take a few selfies. read more

I went in because of the hype, but this plate was honestly disappointing. This was supposed to be red chilaquiles with NY steak and chorizo, but the execution fell very short. The chilaquiles were overly watered down, lacking the richness and depth you expect from a proper red sauce. Instead of being saucy and bold, they were soggy and diluted, almost like the sauce had been stretched too thin. The "NY steak" was the biggest letdown. What was served looked no different than a generic beef steak cut thin, uneven, and lacking the texture or quality you'd expect from an actual New York strip. If you're advertising NY steak, the cut and presentation should reflect that. This did not. The chorizo was acceptable, but it couldn't save the dish. Overall, the plate looked sloppy and rushed, especially for a place that gets so much praise. That said, I'm willing to give them one more try, because everyone can have an off day. But based on this experience alone, I would not recommend it outright. If you're curious because of the hype, try it at your own discretion, just set your expectations accordingly. $22 Dollar plate. read more

The line out of the door isn't too long of a wait if you're not in a hurry or super hungry. I got there around 11:30-ish on a Saturday morning and it was pretty busy! I wanna say I maybe waited around 30-ish minutes in line. The menu is simple and to the point, which is nice because no one likes a super overwhelming menu. I will say, they should consider an iced coffee option. I ordered the chilaquiles verdes Classicos, which are non spicy and with an over easy egg. The egg was a little on the tougher side texture wise, I'm super picky with my eggs though. The cafe de olla could be better, does not have the spice punch taste I normally get with cafe de olla. This is a personal preference but I was looking at the health grade (after I sat down), and they had a letter B. Now I'm super big usually on checking this, but didn't this time and that also might have slighted my judgement. The chilaquiles aren't anything special in my opinion! Overall I'd give it 7/10. The service was friendly at the door, but after that they definitely forget about you. The music is also a little on the louder side for a cafe/restaurant vibe. read more
