    Bigos

Zapiecek feels a lot like the Denny's of Warsaw. First of all, there are locations of this chain restaurant everywhere (I counted no fewer than seven on my visit). Second, the restaurant is decorated with lots of kitsch decorated with Polish folk art, and even the service staff was dressed in "traditional" clothes. Third, the huge menu was full of fantastical, colorful photos that were obviously exaggerated depictions of the actual dishes. I started with an order of the zurek, a sour white rye soup served with a grilled sausage, half a hard-boiled egg topped with horseradish, and slices of a seeded Polish bread, all arranged on a wooden board. But my favorite dish was the bigos, a traditional Polish stew made with sauerkraut cooked with sausage, pork ribs, forest mushroom, dried plums, and red wine. As a whole, the dish was nicely balanced in flavor with the savoriness of the meat and mushrooms, the sourness of the sauerkraut, and the slight sweetness of the dried plums. While the actual plates of food didn't look as picture-perfect as the photos, and the whole restaurant felt a bit artificial, the food and dining experience were great nonetheless!

    Rye soop- very good!

I had dinner with a friend here! Very cosy interior and friendly staff! No need for reservation during the week, they have many tables. I will definitely come back whenever I am in Warsaw. We had the dumplings with two different sauces - both were very delicious. The Rye soup is a good choice too! Service was really quick, we did not have to wait long.

There's a reason why there's always a line going out the door here. I wanted the authentic Pierogi experience, and this was recommended highly throughout the interwebs. Don't stray too far from the menu. Order the classic polish flavors, add a mug of sour rye soup, .5 liter cold beer- and enjoy your trip.

Pros: traditional food, quick service, plenty of seating, menu available in English Cons: - If you've ever been to Poland before or having Polish friends, you've probably heard of this famous restaurant chain. They are all over Warsaw, and they over traditional fare such as kielbasa, pierogis, zurek soup, etc. They are particularly known for their pierogi menu, which is very extensive and includes both boiled and fried versions. We usually come here when we want pierogis. They have all kinds and servings come in "grandma portions" (9 pieces) or "grandpa portions" (11 pieces). Additionally, there's the option of mixing pierogi types to make your own platter with your favorites! My personal favorite is ordering kielbasa (Polish sausages), they come with onions or cabbage, and they are always delicious. In our experience service has always been fairly fast, even at times when the restaurant was nearly full.

Sure, you show up in Warsaw only to find that essentially the entire pierogi and kielbasa scene has been condensed into a touristy looking chain called Zapiecek, where the servers are dressed up in psuedo-authentic historical attire not unlike a Hofbrauhaus that you'd find in Vegas. Fear not, hungry traveller, because Zapiecek is the real deal. Star 1: How was the service and atmosphere? As was mentioned, the atmosphere comes across as a tourist trap, but you'll quickly realize that the clientele here at Zapiecek is more local than tourist, and it's for good reason. Once you get past the facade, service is fast, friendly, and more than capable of handling english. Star Granted. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? $0.84 per pierogi depending on the type you order. More than fair. Have a look: http://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=nlcLOp0QvJ2hl6FQV8zWcg&userid=OKX-V5j_qfuOebeHeWGrHg Star Granted. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? I'm a big fan of pierogis, but I'd never had anything like this. First and foremost, I ordered mine freshly pan fried, and in gravy no less. Goodness gracious. Top it all off with some friend onions and my eight pierogis (four meat four mushroom) were a perfect blend of filling and soft/crispy exterior. These were marvelous. Dual Stars Granted. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? Best meal in Poland. Yes. Star Granted.

We had pierogis 3 times in Poland, and these were absolutely the best of the three. It is located on Nowy Swiat, so in a touristy spot, but it's a cute little restaurant. The waitresses are dressed in traditional Polish garb, but they all speak English. The menu is EXTENSIVE, but we settled on a set of fried pierogis with cabbage and mushroom and boiled Ruskie pierogis (potatoes and cheese). They also offer different dipping sauces, such as gravy, cheese, sour cream (pairs well with fried pierogis!), and butter. Both pierogis came piping hot and tasted incredibly fresh. The fried ones were especially good, because there's a flaky layer on the skin from being finished off with butter. An overall excellent experience!

The place is expensive but worth it! Best Polish dumplings I've had thus far! Along with ordering the dumpling sampler, 3 included in an order for 13 zlt, I ordered the cod. It was out of this world! Almost yo beautiful to eat. Additionally most of the staff spoke English and they were knowledgeable about beers and the menu. Best service I've had during my two weeks in the country.

A famous polish chain spread all over Warsaw. Still pierogi is good. Atmosphere is authentic, decoration is traditional, the uniform of the staff is really nice. The prices are fair enough. Only problem is the queue you have to wait, especially if it is a weekend evening. But this is the common problem of all the populer restaurants in town.

Mushroom, cream and parsley pierogi with gravy..

I know this is a chain restaurant, but I thought it was very good and the prices were very reasonable. I ordered the mushroom, parsley and cream (I think those were the ingredients) pierogi a with gravy... Just FYI if you order gravy it's not like the Gravy you put on your turkey for thanksgiving, it's more like bacon bits with the grease leftover from a pan. The waitresses are all dressed in cute traditional outfits and are friendly and most of them spoke English pretty well.

Our colleagues, translator and guide, was from Poland, but no Warsaw. So we happen upon Zapiecek, and we're not disappointed. It was an almost 11pm when we decided it was time to find some food on this work trip and first time to Poland. So I wanted something of local taste. So my colleague suggested the pierogi. Now forgive me for not remembering the fillings, or the sauce, but the memories of just enjoying the flavors is still with me that I tried to find similar taste here in the States and have not found a place yet. From what I remember the staff were friendly and the setting was quiet and comfortable. So I do have fond memories of dining at Zapiecek, and would go again. So enjoy...

First time having authentic fried pierogis - wow! I highly recommend ordering the 9 piece assortment of pierogis or dumplings. I enjoyed their version of beef stew (great for dipping the side of bread!). Affordable prices, very friendly and fast service. I loved the house red wine, it paired great with our meal. Walking distance to many popular and fun bars, lounges, restaurants, and more. A gem that we stumbled upon - highly recommend if you are in Warsaw!

The dim-lit ambiance, the dark wood accents and white tablecloth gives that formal yet cozy environment and with that, comes an exquisite menu that will leave you with a very pleasant and memorable experience. Reservations are highly recommended which I did have so check-in was a breeze. The waitress was very knowledgeable with the wine list and menu items which was extremely helpful when deciding among the various delicious sounding items on the menu. I heard that the Steak Tartare is a must here so I ordered that and to my delight, it's the best steak tartare I've had in all of Poland. It's prepared table-side from a very charismatic chef which added to the excitement and enjoyment of trying this tasty item. The Beef Wellington was also a delight. The buttery and slightly crisp puff pastry melts in your mouth along NG with the tender and juicy beef in which the demi-glace adds additional flavor to the already mouth-watering profile. Just pure gloriousness. The Bluefin Tuna was the final item I tried and the tender, fresh and scrumptious flavor of the tuna paired with the black truffle, avocado, artichoke and teriyaki sauce...so good. I unfortunately did not have enough room for dessert but wow I watched the items pass by me landing at other tables and I was so wanting to try one of them but not one single bite more of anything could've fit in my stomach. That's why there's always a next time :)
