Will return. I took a star off because of the hairy pig's knuckle. Actually, their food is pretty good, we've: - dumplings/pierogi pretty good, meaty - soup/Zurek: salty and sour, so to my liking - pig's knuckle We asked for the soup on the bread, but it came in a bowl, so it's no big deal. Pig's knuckle is off the bone, soft and tasty, but the spiky hairs turn me off. The service is good. The server brought us two blankets when the sun was gone. Thank you. They're a pretty substantial establishment on the Square. The inside section is big, and so is the outside. We sit outside, and the birds come to check on us often, landing on the chairs and on our table. The pigeons are a little more restrained. Sherrys are offered on the house. It is a nice touch. We came here for dinner with my hubby's niece and her boyfriend. We sat inside as there were no outside seats available. They gave us menus and bread to start. The spreads were really good! I ordered a non alcoholic beer and the boys got sparkling water. I ordered the lamb sausage - it came with fries and a salad. It was very good! I could only eat half so I took the rest home. Decided to have a date night with a fiancee. 1st warning sign was when entree and mains all arrived at the same time ( even before drinks) Entree was on par at best but mains were undercooked ( schnitzel which was days' special was rear in some areas. If you are looking for and outside seating restaurant I recommend this one! Old Warsaw has so many restaurants most are in the same price range. I think service experience depends if you know the language or not. I personally know Polish fluently and English so it's very easy to communicate. Most waitresses speak English fairly well, but have to understand the culture in Poland isn't the same as in US. Their customer service is very different than most Americans are use to (it's always been this way in Poland) menu is in multiple languages for an easy read. I took my husband here (American) and he loved the food. Overall have good food expectations but don't set the bar high for service remember you are in a different country. :) read more

I really enjoyed everything I got here. My Latte was perfect, and the Creme Brûlée was absolutely delicious and gigantic! We were served promptly after we found a table. There was no pressure to rush or leave even though it seemed close to closing time and we were one of 2 sets of costumers. We tried the bbq ribs n sauerkraut, wonderful. I tried the roast Duck. Good, but a bit dry. Reminded me of dryness of Turkey. Since I am not familiar with Duck, I ll try again. Colleagues and I arrived late for dinner, 11 pm, no problem. Not all restaurants open that hour. Wide variety of wines and about 6 beers on draft. I chose the Red Beer from a local brewer I can't pronounce. Can order all the way up to 1 liter size...really. Everyone ordered something different including Wiener Schnitzel (Viennese Cutlet), and a sausage platter on bed of sauerkraut with caraway seeds. Good prices. Friendly. Service: This is a small cafe, so there isn't much to the service. You go in order and the drinks, pastries, food is brought to you pretty quickly. Ambiance: Nice little coffee shop in a large Town square in Warsaw. It was a nice warm break from the cold night air. Food: The coffee was quite delicious, as we're the croissants. Bazyliszek Restaurant is located in the Old Town section of Warsaw with a menu focused on Polish dishes, but the menu is also somewhat eclectic. The meal began with a complimentary basket of bread, which came with a cheese spread, and a pate of sorts. Both were pretty good. The Chicken Wings was not the prettiest of presentations, but the wings were meaty and cooked well. The skin was crisp, while the meat was still tender and moist. The Cream of Polish Mushroom Soup was nice and earthy. It was topped with something akin to croutons which added a nice textural contrast. The soup was not completely smooth, which added a rustic feel. The Chicken Noodle Soup had a light chicken stock, which contained a mountain of noodles and carrots. The soup was a little on the salty side, but overall satisfying. The Roasted Duck was a very large portion, covered in an orange cranberry sauce. The duck was cooked to a nice medium, but the leg was a little tough. The dish was served with an ample side of beet salad, which was sweet and earthy; roasted potatoes which were creamy in the middle and a little crunchy on the outside. The Schnitzel was very large and covered the entire plate. The outside was crisp, while the inside remained juicy. A squeeze of lemon helped to brighten up the dish, and cut down on the richness at the same time. The dish was unconventionally served with French Fries, which could have been a little crisper. The Crème Brulee was served with a side of strawberry sauce. The glassy, crunchy bruleed sugar was missing, as this didn't contain enough sugar and wasn't torched long enough. The actual custard was nice and creamy, but without the shattering sugar topping was a bit of a letdown. Portions here are very large. Service was somewhat inconsistent, as it went through periods of being very attentive to times of disappearance. read more

My favorite part was the red lager I had. Wow! Great beer. The food was decent too. Standard Polish bar food. The sauerkraut was great, unfortunately the sausages were only warm. However I imagine if you and your friends are on your second round of giant beers and hungry, the temperature of the sausages will not be of concern to you. The perogis were A-OK as well. The best by far was the mushroom perogi. I could have just eaten just these - really good. Again, food temperature was a bit of problem - cold perogis not so fun. I think they're using cold plates is my guess. Full disclosure though, it was a cool night and we were sitting outside on the square. Bazyliszek is on Market Square which is smaller than Plac Zamkowy but still crowded with tourists. Downstairs was stifling but the waitress (who was dressed like all the others in a traditional black and white Polish costume) suggested I try upstairs, which was in fact slightly cooler. I ordered a small bottle of Proseco for 20PLN, a bowl of chicken noodle soup (which I've had an unexplainable craving for the last couple of days) for 10.9PLN, and roast duck and apple served with fried beetroot, baked potatoes and cranberry sauce. The menu advertised the latter for 35PLN, but today it was on special for 25. A bowl of bread arrived with a ball of cheese dip and another of minced meat. The cheese was quite acerbic a little like feta but not as salty. The mince was made from pork sausage and quite tasty. The chicken soup was...well, chicken soup. The vegetables consisted solely of carrot. Honestly I could have whipped up a better batch at home with a stock block and a supermarket chicken. The duck was generous (both legs) and the skin was tasty, but the meat I could take or leave. It was served on a bed of the fried beetroot, which was alright, some slightly under-baked potatoes and a pile of rather bland coleslaw. The sauce was a little heavy handed, and the apple (which was baked as well I think) was too sweet for me and didn't add anything to the dish. read more

Running out of time in Warsaw and really craving schnitzel - found this place after a Google search. Seemed like the location and price were right despite mixed reviews. Our dinner at Bazyliszek was good but not great. The place was packed with people, mostly Polish, but also with children who were running around everywhere. We sat upstairs and attempted to sit at the window at a table for 4 (we were a group of 2), but we were kicked out to a smaller table. Understandable until we see another group of 2 claim the window seat not 5 minutes later and not be kicked out. Food portions were very large and difficult to finish. I had the schnitzel and my partner had the chicken livers. Both were of decent quality, simply just too much food. Service was typical of Poland which is to say moderate at best. Not sure I would rush back here the next time in Warsaw. Found great schnitzel at a milk bar the next day (should've just waited) so I would be tempted to try something new next time. read more

This was our first restaurant in Poland and we really enjoyed it! We were given some breads before our meals with minced meat and cream cheese spread.... Which was different but we liked it. Our meals were are pretty good.... I got a grilled pork dish that I really enjoyed. I tried bites of the other meals at our table and they were all pretty tasty. Service was quick and our waiter spoke English very well. After our meal we were served with some sherry which we thought was a nice little treat after a big meal. read more
