This said, one of my favorite restaurants in the world is in my mother's birthplace of Poland... it is called Folk Gospoda. Absolutely loved the food here! My husband and I found this place on Yelp, and it was a short walk from our hotel so we tried it out and were not disappointed. The interior was warm and charming, and the menu was extensive. I had the spinach and goat cheese pierogis, with a bowl of borscht and my goodness, was my meal delicious! My husband had the sirloin steak and raved about it. Service was excellent and courteous. Although the prices might seem a little high, with the exchange rate what it was during our visit, we really couldn't complain. I loved this place. It's definitely touristy, but even with several long tables set up just for tour groups, it still felt like the food itself was authentic and ultimately that's what I really wanted. The decor is also high traditional, which is just sometimes what you want in a traditional/more tourist-facing place. The pierogi were some of the best I had in my tour of Poland, and I taste-tested A LOT of pierogi! They also have a delightful selection of vodkas. Our server clearly had about a billion tables, and yet she somehow was still unflappably kind and quick with our meals and answering any questions we had. The Polish dumplings were very good. You must try the pork knuckle - huge! Service was pretty typical for a lot of places in Poland- not impressive. On my second visit with a large group, the appetizer I ordered was delivered to someone else at the far end of my table. About 5 minutes after that person realized no one on that end ordered it, someone from my group delivered it to me. I had to call the waiter to confirm it was mine. He was apologetic and brought me a free shot of their horseradish vodka - very unique! A person in our group loved it so much he purchased an entire bottle of it. I heard a lot good things about this place from my polish friends, so when I was in Warsaw I decided to take my dad and brother in law for dinner there. I really liked the decor and atmosphere (takes you back to the good old days). The other good thing about this place is the fact that you can read their menu in both Polish and English, but unfortunately servers do not understand much of English (at least ours didn't at all). I ordered potato pancake stuffed with mean and it was ok (too expensive and I've tried better). My dad had celery steak (yes, you read it correct, steak made out of celery... go figure) served with barley and it was ok too. I enjoyed their hot beer. I would say this place is way overpriced. And the service needs to be more friendly with foreigners. read more

We were seated outside which was very nice given the pleasant weather. I ordered the food of my ancestors- 2 kinds of herring with boiled potatoes, cooked cabbage and fried shredded beets. I drank a cucumber lemonade that was very refreshing. The food was good - and way too much for me to eat. My husband had an excellent half duck(nothing my ancestors could have afforded) with vegetables- he tried to help me eat mine but it was still too much. LOVED this restaurant. Recommended by a friend and we were so glad we went. 1. The food was in BIG portions, and strong, so make sure to order a meat, a vegetable, and a grain. We ordered the lamb shank, potato pancake (beef goulash), roasted vegetables, asparagus salad, and bread basket for 3 people and it was perfect. We had the chocolate cake at the end. We loved the lamb, veggies, cake, and bread. The beef goulash was very strong but good, and the asparagus salad was a bit disappointing. 2. Folk Gospoda was a pleasant surprise. I wasn't really expecting too much as we were just looking for somewhere to have lunch and spend an hour or so warming ourselves. The room is inviting and cozy and we may have ordered an embarrassing amount of food but thought this was a good opportunity to get the classics. Plenty of families and friends were enjoying a weekend meal. If you are in the neighborhood or staying at the Hilton you owe yourself a walk over for a plate of pirogies and a beer. read more

Pros: traditional food, traditional decoration, good service, plenty of seating Cons: it can get expensive compared to other places TLDR: come for traditional Polish food and drinks, we loved it and kept coming back. We spent 3 months in Warsaw and have tried multitude of locations, and we keep coming back to this one and the chain Zapiecek. You will find the menu here chockfull with traditional staples of Polish cuisine and my favorite: veal steak. They have the menu available in both English and Polish, so don't worry about the language barrier. The times we visited our waitresses were always competent enough in English to take our orders without a hiccup. I usually pointed at the item in the menu I wanted to make it even easier on them. They accept credit cards and do not have WiFi (in case you hope for connecting while eating). Also, they have small and large tables, so it would be easy for them to accommodate large parties. Wow! A friend brought us here for typical Polish food. The menu variety was amazing and everything we ordered was great. The tartar was very fresh and tasty. Yes, it is a bit touristy but it was soooo good and honestly a bit of traditional polish keech never hurt anyone. It is a great place to go and share dishes so on my own I was a bit limited. I had the sausages to start and then the pierogi sample. It was definitely too much for one person but I loved being able to sample the different pierogi. I think you can find much better authentic Polish food. My Grandma lives a few blocks from here, knock on her door and slip her $50 złoty and she'll cool you a feast. The food is ok and you can certainly have a good time here. If you do come here get the Tatar and several shots of vodka and you'll be good. read more

This is a good example of tasty Polish classics with a slightly modern feel. We were a group of five, and tried some lovely, traditional dishes, such as pierogi, rosół, potato pancake with goulash, and barszcz. All the portions were large and everything tasted lovely. The food did take quite a while to come out (45 minutes after ordering) but they do mention in their menu that wait time can be a little longer than normal as they prepare everything from scratch. Our waitress was a lovely young girl, who was friendly and sweet. Great service like that is kind of rare in Poland. The location is great also. We sat outside, and even though it's near the road, it's not so busy (even on a Saturday night) to be loud. read more

This is another overdue review (I've been off social media for a few months, so excuse the lateness). I was here on vacation Feb 2018. If you're from the US, this restaurant is upscale and affordable. We ordered the meat platter to share, mixed pierogis, and split a serving of duck. The duck was not great: the sauce was sweet and it was over-cooked. But the meats were out of this world. If you go, order a bunch of different meals and split them. Everything here is excellent. I had the potato pancake, which was stuffed with meat and sauce, and covered with a smoked cheese. Only word to describe it is fabulous! My colleague had the pork knuckle, which was melt in your mouth good! The service was great. Very friendly staff and great atmosphere. Several tables got the 5L beer tap, and it was interesting to watch that get poured and delivered. The shliboviza is strong, but recommended. You can't enjoy your trip to Warsaw without trying this place! Overall, this was a memorable meal in Warsaw, and a place I would recommend going out of your way to find. Probably the best lamb shank I have ever tasted. You could probably pick up the bone and the whole lamb would of fell off the bone. Perfectly cooked. We ordered the duck entree with apple and cranberry sauce and it was DELICIOUS! The duck was moist and fatty that it melted in my mouth. We were debating to get the beza liquor dessert but super glad we did. The meringue was light and the liquor cream was delightful. We will definitely be back here again on our next visit. So I've been here quite a few times and I've had the opportunity to try quite a few of the items on the menu and here is my review.... Service here is notoriously slow in the evenings when it can get quite busy here. But other times during the day, say.... for lunch, it can be quite fast. The food: I have had the chicken salad, tartare, placek and steak. Salad was good, but how hard is it to mess up a salad, right?! Tartare: Not good, it tastes and has the consistency of packaged tartare you could buy at the biedronka for literally 5 times less the price-NO JOKE. Placek: Freaking delicious, which is why I come to this place when I'm craving placek. Literally the BEST PLACEK, I've had anywhere in Poland. That and this place is located right across the street from my flat - SUPER convenient. Steak: Not bad, but not impressive at all, and they cooked it incorrectly plus its more expensive than other delicious steaks that can be found at Hoza, or Butchery and Wine. The place is great to take visitors to as it looks like an old Polish country house and the waitress wear altered traditional type Polish clothing. So there you have it! read more

We wanted to go to a traditional Polish restaurant, and since this was recommended by Aga, the CM of Yelp Warsaw, off we went. After what must have been 10 miles of walking to and around the Old Town and back, we were famished. I loved the cutesy-poo and colorful Old World decor, with the waitresses dressed in traditional costumes. I ordered a glass of Spanish cava, not exactly Polish, but it was cheap. And warm. But it was replaced by a cold one without raised eyebrows. We ordered the chef's special mushroom soup, a deliciously rich (but thankfully not creamy) broth with big chunks of three kinds of earthy mushrooms and pumpkin seeds. (The Poles seem to put pumpkin seeds in everything!). Next we shared a plate of sauerkraut and mushroom pierogies (see the theme here?), and Herb had a mug of borscht to go with it. We should have stopped there. But we continued with the piece de resistance - a gigantic potato pancake - about 12" in diameter - folded over a rich beef stew with red and yellow peppers and onions. Some of the meat was very tender, some not so much, but it was all very tasty. Over salted, but what else is new? Oh, I forgot about the basket of fresh bread we ordered, served with garlic butter. We got a doggy bag for the potato pancake, brought it back, then realized that our "modern, fully equipped apartment" had neither oven nor microwave, this being A.D. 2014. Cold beef stew and soggy potato pancake just won't cut it. But that's not the restaurant's fault. Overall, a very nice meal in an ambience that reminded us that we sure weren't home! read more

On our first trip to Poland in December 2012, our hotel concierge recommended this restaurant to my business partner and I for traditional Polish food. My mother and grandmother cooked Polish food, so I had high expectations and I wasn't disappointed, neither was my partner, who had never had Polish cuisine. While Folk Gospoda is not the place to go for a light meal, it is a place to go for a fantastic meal!!! The food is outstanding, so much so that when my partner and I were back in Warsaw in April we sought out the restaurant, and again were extremely pleased. We ate there on our final night of a successful, but grueling business trip and it really crowned the trip well. I had the venison, as I had back in December when it was in season. It was just as fantastic in April! For some reason my partner had bad luck with ordering pierogis on this trip, however, he hit "hit pay dirt" at Folk Gospoda and went home happy man. The restaurant is decorated like a traditional Polish farmhouse and the extremely pleasant and helpful wait staff is dressed in the same theme, making this a unique place for business dinners, and lovely for those who want to bring their families. I can't wait to bring my wife there when she joins me in Poland. I am not usually a fan of "themed" restaurants, but Folk Gospoda is an exception! When in Poland, eat as the Poles do... Or a tourist approximation of how Polish people eat. Polish people in the 1900s. Oh I'm just kidding. Folk Gospoda is a 'traditional' style restaurant with all the colourful folky decor you expect. I wanted a traditional Polish meal so this was definitely the place to go, especially as it was super close to my hotel and had been reviewed by lots of others. I had the beef tartare to start and a bison grass vodka cocktail. The tartare was served beautifully, with chopped onion, pickles and the traditional egg yolk. It was very smooth and fresh tasting. It's hard to not think you are eating a big mound of raw meat when eating tartare but this place managed to make it not seem like that at all. And with some good advice from reviewers not to order a main course as well, I just had the potato pancakes with mushrooms and this was very tasty. A bit less sophisticated than the beef but still very satisfying. I did make the mistake of ordering a glass of the house red, as they had nothing else by the glass and it was the worst vinegary swill I'd ever drunk. PASS! The service was hit and miss, they did speak English but disappeared for half the meal and I saw them snapping at another table who had a language barrier. read more

Let's face it. It is a bit of a tourist trap, with beer served by the meter and traditional folk dancing. The food is somewhat traditional Polish with huge portions. For some reason only the female staff is dressed in what I guess is traditional Polish clothing, which might be one of the reasons that this seems to attract pleanty of guys out on a binge. We started the meal with a couple of hot winter teas and baked Camembert, it was a nice sized portion covered in garlic with a side of cranberries, my only complaint was that the 2 pieces of toasted bread was not enough so we ordered a bread basket also . My wife really enjoyed her pierogi and she also had a bowl of chicken soup, actually more like a broth but full of flavor. I ordered the potato pancakes which were stuffed with pieces of beef that were stewed in a very flavorful goulash. The potato pancake was amazing, very nicely seasoned! It was a very large meal that I really enjoyed, I ate all of the pancakes but couldn't finish the huge portion of beef but it was so tasty that I took it home and used it in an omelette the next morning. The food was great and the ambiance in the restaurant was great, the service was a bit slow but we were not in a hurry so it didn't really matter. I currently live in the Detroit area of Michigan (USA), and I visited Folk Gospoda in September 2012 with a large group of at least 50 international scholars. It was a fabulous night of Polish music and dance as well as the most abundant feast of Polish food imaginable. We had sausage platters, salad platters, baked potatoes, grilled fish, bread, pickled herring, grilled meat, wine, towers of beer, and dessert. Every morsel was delicious! The service was also excellent, especially considering the fact that we were such a large group. Several servers circled the tables, filling our glasses, bringing more food, and removing plates once we were finished. It was a night I won't soon forget, and the story of this meal is one that I tell to everyone who asks me about my trip to Warsaw, Poland. read more

After getting off the plane I was brought straight here for Polish food. One big selling point is that they have live music almost every night of the week, but sadly there was no-one playing that night. It's quite nicely rustic-themed. All sturdy wood furniture.
