Nice foray into polish food. My server Anastasiaa was helpful and made the experience quite nice. I tried the croquettes which were crispy and full of cheese (perhaps too much cheese) and of course the pierogi, which is worth trying but I prefer the asian version of dumplings personally. My favorite thing here instead was this fantastic, infused berries and herbs tea, which came in a tall beer mug. I could totally go back just to get another pitcher of that. read more

I loved Zapiecek so much so decided to go to their different location the next day. I did not disappoint! I was super impressed by their traditional sourdough soup (may seem a bit sour for some people but I thought it was delicious, perfect flavors, amount of mushrooms and great, yum!). It's super unique and I haven't seen it anywhere else. Potato pancake was massive, and I could eat it every single day if I could. Everything was absolutely scrumptious, that I can't wait to go back there again. Portions are huge, and definitely worth the price. A great place for dinner! The servers, all dressed in red, were super nice to us. We came at 7:00pm and the place was really busy. However, it was only a 10 minute wait for a table outside. The outside tables (lots of them) are accompanied with flowers and lamps surrounding the perimeter. Our server quickly took our order and gave us recommendations and explanations on the different dishes. We went with the frozen lemonade and shot of vodka to start, super delicious with fresh lemons. A cup of the sausage soup had a nice unique flavor to it. So did the rib (fall off the bone) dinner and cabbage. My potato pancakes and goulash was good, but some of the pork knuckle pieces were tough to chew. The bread they provide with the dinner was rye, and just tasted okay. We ordered the apple pie and ice cream for dinner. The apple pie tasted very plain, missing cinnamon or something to improve the blandness. The bottom and top layers were soggy pastry. Zapiecek is a mini chain, located in Warsaw. (I didn't find any in Krakow.) In a 20 minutes walk near-ish the old town area. Don't let that fool you. The food is so good! Both of us wanted the pan fried dumplings. I got the forest mushrooms with butter sauce (which I didn't use cuz it was SOOOO GOOD by itself). If you like mushrooms, you must get this version! It's amazing! Hubby got the meat stuffed dumplings (the most traditional option) with 'gravy', which is pieces of bacon soaking in butter sauce. It's what you see in the menu photos. I mean, it's bacon, so is there anyone to argue this?? The atmosphere is great. We were there ~6pm. The outside seating is quite full as it was a beautiful day. But we didn't want to smell cigarette smoke so we happily chose the lovely interior surrounded by books and darling lampshades. We requested and got a table by the window so it was extra lovely. If you're in Warsaw, I highly recommend trying anyone of them. This location is just outside of old town and very approachable for tourists. Enjoy your meal. You'll love it! read more

I loved their food! It is a chain, but the food is great. They have a rich menu with a variety of Polish traditional dishes. Great service, the personnel is in a nice short dresses. Truth be told, I did not think the pierogies were all that good...hot, variety and fried, 9 pierogies were enough, I chose the no meat group, I found one the most tasty with cheese and one was awful with cottage cheese and buckwheat. I have had frozen then boiled pierogies at home better tasting than these! I was disappointed but since I am no pro on pierogies, I will leave this at 3 stars. Final comments...as a solo traveler, the outside seating was not an option to take their tables for four and indoor seating was warm today. When you're on vacation in Warsaw, you should go to Zapiecek at least once. They have large plates of a whole bunch of different varieties of pierogies and many other traditional polish specialties at really reasonable prices. The meat and cabbage is especially delicious with gravy and horseradish on top! The zurek with egg, bread, and sausage on the side is a good option, too, if you're not too hungry. The zurek isn't the best I've ever had but is still quite nice. I'd recommend adding a mug of that to your plate of pierogies, by the way. If you're still hungry after all that, then totally go for the "traditional apple cake" with vanilla ice cream on the side. It's a really nice dessert and not too sweet. The restaurant is a bit of a tourist trap and service is kind of spotty, but is still definitely worth a visit to try some pierogies. read more

One might think that Pierogis are everywhere in Poland, but we did not find that to be the case. This restaurant specializes in pierogis and has a number of locations - it seems all are considered good. We enjoyed it, with good service, English speaking staff and a nice atmosphere. This one has a good location near many of the places of interest in Warsaw. We recommend it. read more

One star for the fun experience of learning how to make their traditional dumpling 2nd Stars for being the ONLY traditional hand making dumplings and for giving jobs to granny 3rd Stars for nice waitress and clean n nice environment. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY. Overall this place is not worth the money. Their meat pierogis aren't fresh but rather frozen before, microwaved and fried before serving. The waitress explained this to us once we were paying. Even thought they advertise themselves as "home made". More importantly the staff here does not threat foreigners the same as it treats the natives. I witnessed a hostess (who spoke no English) refusing a service for a spanish/English speaking couple stating the kitchen closes at 10:30pm and then letting other customers on for another 30 min. Even though we ordered our food at 10:37 pm and 2 more couples after us ordered food and drinks. You can't grab drinks here either unless you get a table. read more

Super delicious Polish Food! This is a beloved chain in Warsaw. In fact I saw over three separate locations within the span of 5 mins. Don't worry though! They have very authentic polish dumplings and other dumplings for reasonable prices. You'll spend about $8-10 USD an entree but it is well worth it. What's more is that you'll easily find locals eating here because the food is soooooo good. Imo the best dish is grandma's dumplings which gives you a sampler of pan fried pierogis. Sure you can get pierogis for much cheaper in stalls or milk bars across the city but I have yet to find pierogis as perfectly pan fried as the ones encountered here. Another thing, definitely try the original lemonade! It's not too sweet but nicely tart. You'll easily find people all around ordering it, and it's one of the best lemonades I've had. There is plenty of service to go around and you won't have to wait to long to get a table. Staff is very friendly and accommodating as they speak polish and English. The perogis are good and there is plenty of options to choose from. The menu also lists vitamins that are in whatever type of perogi you decide to order. They come fried and boiled and you can either choose a specific filling or get a mixed pan with a choice between meat fillings or vegetarian fillings. Even nicer, you can put together your own mix of pierogi from the list. Besides pierogi you'll find a nice selection of other traditional Polish dishes, soups, broths and very affordable drinks. This was our first taste of Polish dumplings and sausage with cabbage. The English speaking menus were very helpful as well! It did not disappoint! We had a beautiful street side table where we could just sit, soak in Warsaw, and people watch. The only reason it's not 5 stars for us is that my entree came 10 minutes after my husband's food.
