Good food and great margaritas. Highly recommend the 1880 Chile rellenos. Fast service too

The food is not authentic, the "homemade" tortillas taste store bought. The salsa was good, but the rice & beans were no bueno.

I would just like to say we love eating at Zapatas!! The hostess always seems so polite and prompt!! Always has a smile on her face!! All of the waiters and waitresses are always running around and smile at us as they pass our table!! Very friendly atmosphere!! Will definitely be back again soon!! read more

We chose this restaurant partly because it was within walking distance of our hotel. We were not disappointed. The decor is attractive and the staff does a good job. The hostess kept us informed about the status of our table and the server was friendly and efficient. The portion sizes are moderate and the prices are moderate. The enchiladas are worth the price. Beef enchiladas actually contain shredded beef and pork enchiladas actually contain chunks of pork. Our only complaint is that the menu does not contain any kind of combination plate. read more

Absolutely the worst Mexican food experience ever in my 45 years of life!! We are from Highland Park, California----where they have real Mexican food!! Driving through and visiting the Cody Museum and Mount Rushmore, a family of six, looking for some good food, good service, as we were tired and hungry from lots of driving!! The chips were cold, out of a bag from Von's I think?! The cheese in my daughters enchilada was not even melted. The salsa tasted like ketchup with onions and salt added for an awful flavor. We were one of the last families served, but that is no excuse for the awful treatment our family received. Our complaints were shrugged off. It was as if we were lucky to be getting food anywhere and they made sure to make us feel that way!! They were smirking, knowing we were from California, and making us NOT feel welcomed at all!! My wife gave them a tip.......I had my son grab it before we left!! I love food!! I love restaurants!! We pride ourselves as being a family of six that knows how to act in a restaurant!! This place gets my lowest rating possible......if there was a zero stars I would select that!! I have never had a worse eating experience in my life at Zapata's. My son remembered the name of this place as I just joined Yelp today!! It happened 3 years ago on a family trip.......I pray that they are out of business or under new ownership/management!! What else negative could I say about this place? As a family of six, tired and hungry from driving, looking for something to eat before sleeping in another hotel/motel----we hated this place!! And as a rule, we don't use the word hate at all. But, in this instance the word fits. read more

Better than across the street, tourist prices but not bad for WY. Save ur money and eat Taco Bell . We ordered a pathetic $30 pitcher of margaritas and it came in a vat that would not pour correctly. Your better off getting a bucket o beer., it cheaper and tastes better. The food was average Mexican, nothing to extravagant. Sadly everything on the menu can be made with ingredients from Wal-Mart in 30 min. THE SALSA was the BEST BY FAR ... better than the entire meal! read more

our party had a wide range of dishes, all were very blah. there was a lot going on on the plates the tastes were not there, in fact everything tasted the same, ....tasteless... service was fine, nothing great and cody is well known for terrible service, but the food was nothing t make you finish your order much less ever go back. we had eaten the night before at La Comida and wish we had all just gone back to La Comida!! HILARIOUS that the owner thinks she waited on us and remembers us not being happy with the food!!! NO, sweatheart, we are ANOTHER party that wasn't happy with the low quality food! I never changed our order mid stream, we let our friends order for us, they think the food is good, we never had been there before and will never be back. Buck'n burger, the old La Comida, also closed over the winter and it STILL serves better food closed than you do. We would recommend Maverick gas station or Good 2 Go over zapatas read more

Decent Albuquerque Mex but the service is awful. You can tell it is a tourist town and the servers don't take any pride in their jobs! Way slow, and no drink refills without you tracking down your servers. They forgot to bring tortillas with my dinner. When I asked for them the server rolled her eyes. As we were leaving, we found out they were closed early because they ran out of tortillas. How does a Mexican resturaunt run out of tortillas? We won't be back. read more

Decent Mexican food. I had the beef flautas with sour cream and chile verde sauce, my husband had tortilla soup, one son had a beef taco with fries and the other had a quesadilla (huge!). All were tasty. Salsa was spicy and tasty. Service was good but not great. I liked that we could sit outside because it was threatening to rain. read more

Not good. My carne asada dinner came cold and not medium as ordered, the tortillas were just store brought, and it was too expensive for what it was. Nice decor though and the servers were very friendly and kept the chips and salsa coming. This was nothing I couldn't have made myself for $12.00 less. I'd say look elsewhere for Mexican. Not across the street though... my friends tell me they had a bad experience there with the food. read more

Very tasty and well prepared! Excellent attentive service. 1/2 order of nachos was the perfect size lunch!

I tried to eat here with my family but could not get any service. We decided to go to another place to eat and when we were leaving noticed several of the waitresses hanging out in the parking lot. A lot of the employees seemed very young. read more

Nice setup but not "revolutionary" New Mexican. Pinto beans most likely canned and corn may have been frozen but the cook probably added the chopped jalepeno peppers to make it "Mexican corn." The pepper with egg was okay. read more

Outstanding chile verde! The salsa has some great heat! The rice brought it down from five stars.

Our waitress was nice. We sat outside and the condiments outside on the table should have been our clue to just have the beer, chips and salsa and go. They were disgusting. Frank's Red Hot Sauce looked ancient. Gloppy, odd colored...gross. Despite my concerns. I ordered a safe sounding taco. The beef was flavorless, corn was weird. Enough said. If you like Mexican food at all, don't eat here. read more

Two stars because I kept eating and paid for the meal. The fish taco was a frozen breaded fish strip with some lettuce, tomato, and cheese on a small tortilla--I could make better and usually do. The snow crab enchilada was only slightly better, but obviously frozen ingredients. Like others have said, the salsa is the best part of the meal. I got fed, didn't pay an arm and a leg, but definitely wouldn't go back. read more

Fabulous food! Four of us ate different chicken dishes that were wonderful - lots of chicken not from a can, well seasoned with great presentation. Attentive wait staff, good salsa, and good beer selection. I ate the tortilla soup and thought it was very well seasoned but a little thick. I would go back anytime. read more

Chips were fantastic. My burrito had too much red sauce for my taste. Rice and beans were pretty good. The rest of my party liked their food. Service was pretty quick. read more

Would not recommend. I love good Mexican, but this place left a lot to be desired. The rice was more like instant and food had almost no flavor. Was not worth the price or time, although we had a great waitress. read more

Homemade Chips & spicy salsa were great and complimentary. Always a bonus. The menu is not huge, but everything we had was above expectations. The guacamole had chunky avocado, not that mushy green stuff mixed with salsa. read more

The staff treats you like family, the food is amazing! So good, we went back the next night and brought friends. Chili relleno with rice, great rice, btw, and beans, not re fried, was uniquely prepared and fabulous. Chips and salsa, delicious. Margaritas best I've had in a long while. Shredded beef tacos and chicken tacos extra yummy! Connie, the owner, is a delight. This is where I'll be stopping next time in Cody! And I'm from AZ read more

The service in this town is HORRIBLE ! Tried to get a meal in downtown at 7:50 pm tonight . Walked in to Zapatas , ONE employee acknowledged our existence , while 3 more were just walking around doing NOTHING but chatting like a high school girl click . Then the young man with a broken arm comes up and completely ignores us in order to talk to and attempt to seat the group that came in behind us , now they were a group of 5 and we were a group of 2 and there were several two top tables available and visible . Finally got seated . Took the waitress 20 minutes to get us our ice tea and water . THEN she came back to take our food order . By now it is 8:20 pm . Another group of 3 is seated next to us . They immediately get service , drinks and chips , and their order taken . By now it is 8:30 , and we have watched so called servers walking back and forth by us in little groups of 2-3 not actually DOING anything but chatting with each other . They are not serving food to tables , not clearing tables , not seating people , and not cleaning tables ...just walking around in little groups of 2-3 gossipping with each other . At 8:55 the table that came in behind us gets all of their order ( they were a group of 3 and had multiple items in their order ) , finally asked what the problem was and the server says " oh orders got out of order , yours will be right up " , I say " I have had enough , we will pay for our chips and salsa and drinks and we are DONE " . Get to the register and wait another 5 minutes for a cashier . The cashier tries to CHARGE US for the food we never got , and I said we will pay for the chips and drinks but not for what we never got . She tells us , Oh the server forgot to put the order in but it will be right up . Honestly how hard is 2 tacos and a nacho order ? If it had been busy I coudl have given them some lee way , if they were short staffed I would be more understanding . They were NEITHER . I had the WORST experience at ZAPATAS and will not go back . I would not recommend ANYONE goes there unless you are a tourist , because if you are part of a large group or an obvious tourist you can actually get service ...not if you are a long time local however ! DON'T GO THERE unless you are planning on being treated like garbage and are planning on waiting over an HOUR for food you never get , and watching staff walk around like little high school groups who ignore you unless you are part of their little click group ! I would give them a NEGATIVE star if that was possible ! read more

I make it a point to stop here every time I'm driving through Cody. Love the burritos, and salsa is fantastic. You can even buy salsa to bring home! Sopapillas are huge and delicious. read more

Zapata's - Awesome salsa to bring a little Zapata back home with you! - Mexican Near Me - Cody, Wyoming

So the waitress was good, I had the Carne Asada dish which is a bit over priced for what it was a small portion of meat what ruined the experience was we asked for a separate check and the waitress said we had to separate it at the register .....that's where the problem occurred. The older long grey hard lady that was wearing flip flops (a Culinary no-no ) says "c'mon guys can't you do your own math..I'm swamped here you can't figure this out on your own?!" If she wasn't serious it wouldn't have bothered me but I'm in the industry and that was just flat out rude and unlimited called for! 1. It's your software or lack there of that can't split a ticket and your personal inability to handle a very lack luster busy day (we do over 300 covers in 5 hours) and split a ticket. Very unprofessional and I would not recommend this place because of her actions and attitude alone read more

The salsa was great and the enchiladas were ok, however the service was incredibly unprofessional. The restaurant was almost empty and there were at least 3 servers waiting around talking. We waited awhile to be seated and to have our order taken. Our server was a nice kid, but clothes were dirty and the girl servers were wearing flip flops (which I am sure is a health violation). While we were waiting another couple left because of waiting too long & over hearing the servers argue over who got to go home first. We wish we would have done the same . read more

Yeah great food, and nice portions and the salsa is first rate.

I found the attention to detail's lacking at this restaurant. We were seated to a booth right away by a young lady and found the lighting much to dim to read our menus and resorted to using the flash lights on our smart phones to read them. Our drink order was taken promptly however the waitress forgot our straws and we ended drinking straight out of the glass. Finally after 8 1/2 minutes she returned to take our order and I said,, "you forgot our straws" which she replied "I'm sorry" and promptly took our order and placed two straws down in front of two empty glasses which I found less then humous. We ordered the Fajita special for two and waited. The food came out fairly quick and was dropped off to us,,, with no mention of " is there anything else you wish" the server left so fast I couldn't even get the words out " Yes a couple refills on our drinks would be nice" The main course was tasty but the sides were cold and no where could I find our waitress or any other employer to complain so we ended eating a hot tasty Fajita with cold side dishes and nothing to drink. After we finished a meal our waitress showed up and asked how was everything? I asked her,,, did you go on vacation? Where have you been? She replied I was busy,,, to which I said too busy to pay attention to your customers. If you want,, a tasty Fajita,, no straws,, no drinks,, lousy service and cold sides this should be your restaurant of choice. read more

Stopped by chance on our way to Yellowstone. So tasty we made a point to stop again on our way home. Recommend the 1880 Chili Releno.

I have eaten at this restaurant many times but tonight was horrible. My enchilada sauce was extremely salty, the margaritas were weak, and the chips were cold and stale. Not sure if I will be returning to this restaurant again. read more

Damn good food! Salsa was a bit spicy for me but it was still good. We will be back the next time we are in town.

I had the Fajita Salad it was as amazing! My husband had a cheese enchilada he highly recommends the food and the salsa!

My first time eating here was wonderful (my mother took me here- she's eaten there a few times with no complaints). I LOVED the salsa. It was thick and hot, but the spicy flavor wasn't overwhelming. I plan on ordering a jar as soon as I am done with my travels- they ship anywhere! I had the snow crab enchilada with sour cream sauce. It was very flavorful and the portion was not too big like some mexican restaurants. We sat outside on a patio and our waitress was very friendly. She answered our questions about the menu and general questions about Cody tourist attractions. Our iced tea glasses were always full. Great service, great food. Love this place! Definitely will return when I am visiting Cody again. read more

Chips and salsa were amazing, you could tell that they made them fresh. I even bought a jar of salsa for myself. Whenever I go to a Mexican restaurant I always order the spinach enchiladas (I'm a vegetarian) and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality if the food. It tasted great! The spinach was fresh and flavorful, the white sour cream sauce was amazing, the rice and beans were pretty good too. The rice had some small hard bits in it but was seasoned really well and the beans aren't refried which is different but they were delicious. My server was very friendly as was the owner and host, I was very pleased with my dining experience. The smoothie I had (berry) was a bit expensive but it was worth it, very fruity and tasty. I look forward to going back. I would definitely chose this place over the one across the street or any other Mexican place in town. Whoop good enchiladas!!!! read more

Connie, I'm not criticizing the service in Cody. I'm explaining to the numerous reviewers of your establishment that are complaining about poor service that it's not isolated to your Restaurant, and why that is. Having cooked in Green Mountain Falls CO (another tourist hot spot) I know the aggravation of having to re-do orders because of inexperienced servers, and the angst of working with 15-17 year old prep people and dishwashers. It's not fun, drives up food cost and is one of the reasons most professional Cooks, Chefs andWait Staff drink. read more

The food was good, the decor was charming, the manager was so nice. There were problems with our meal and she was so accommodating, her wait staff was awesome. Warning the salsa was spicy but the best we've ever had and the food was in large portions and very good. We would go again. read more

Zapatas is an ok place. Food is very good but service is slow and spotty. When u order make sure they write it down as u want it. Reservations are really recommended but be prepared to be patient. I prefer other Mexican restaurant in town. read more

Food was great, service was great and environment was great.. First time to Cody and my family and I were very hungry and this was a perfect end to our night. The fish tacos rock! They also have a "gringo menu" for the kids who might be too used to their cheeseburger and fries.. My 7 year old daughter took full advantage of this. Good restaurant. Tamara was our server and was very attentive and helpful with the menu.. A++++ for Tamara. read more
