I'll start off by mentioning that they were obviously very busy, and unexpectedly so. That said, the rodeo was in town, so they could have been better prepared. The food was pretty good for the most part, but they took ~45 mins to deliver our appentizer...pretty sure it was the kitchen's fault, not the server's, but either way, it was a pretty big disappointment. They were out of the fried green tomatoes & baked potatoes, so our first choice of apps and our 1st choice for sides were unavailable. Lastly, the bison ribeyes were pretty low quality. Additionally, a rare steak was more like blue rare and the mid rare steak was barely. 9-19-26 We were visiting from Texas and had dinner here. We sat in the enclosed patio area. Ordered onion rings as an appetizer and that was the biggest platter of rings I've ever seen! Large rings dipped in batter and fried to a golden brown and served with ranch sauce. So good but way too much for 2 people so we shared with the family of 4 at the next table. Shelby was our server and she was amazing! Attentive to all of her tables and always with a smile. We had the trout and the flat iron steak with the sides. Both were excellent in seasoning and flavor and cooked just right. We shared the cinnamon toast bread pudding with bourbon sauce. So good! We were seated in the patio. The table was incredibly wobbly, drinks would have tipped, I was able to fix with a few packs of sugar under one of the legs. This is something management should fix. We were seated under a large ceiling fan, which was blowing cool air, our wonderful server (Shelby) told us she "wasn't allowed" to turn it off. I ordered the bone-in Tbone. Is was a bit over cooked, and luke warm when brought to the table. The fan cooled it to room temperature almost immediately. The meat was tough, and not particularly flavorful. We shared a salad, and my spouse had a stuffed potato which had a sprinkling of cheese and chives with sour cream on the side. 5/10. They were out of all of the cobblers except apple. It's a must if you're ever in Cody! (And bring your appetite!) On a recent cross-country road trip, we spent the night in Cody, WY. Dad (who is 87) was with us and we had trekked over to the Proud Cut Saloon as it was not too far from our hotel and was open. The place was packed, and we didn't have a rezzie. The staff managed to find us a table and seated us quickly even still. Our server (Holly) was fantastic! She had great recommendations and was pleasant the entire evening (even though she was juggling a full load of tables). The food was delicious - skirt steak and prime rib were cooked to perfection, and my father enjoyed the senior steak platter that included onion rings as big as his head! Visiting from out of town, our party of 4 was seated in the outdoor covered patio. The staff was running around and we realized they may have been short staffed. But when we had our server's attention she was very thorough, friendly and kind. She did a good job helping us! There were many flies at our table which made it rather unpleasant to enjoy the meal. We began with an order of onion rings which were pretty good. I had the Pilot Peak burger which was ok, another had the Index Mountain burger, she ate half and took the rest home, proclaiming it was even better the next dry! The men both ordered the Buffalo Bill Ribeye. My husband raved about his but unfortunately our friend's was inedible- it was all grizzle and fat. So we stopped in for a late lunch. We were seated quickly and ordered a couple cocktails. We ordered an entree to share along with two house salads. We waited and waited for our salads. We could not catch the attention of the server. We finally received our lunch and no salads. The gal delivering our food was different than our server. We have been to CA, UT, ID, WY, and MT so far on our trip and this place gave us the very best meal yet. In fact, one of the top five meals that I have had in my life of 60+ years. It was the best French onion soup that I have ever had. The mac and cheese was such a smooth blend if cheeses and a real delight. It paired well with the pulled pork sandwich. I have to say I had their hand cut ribeye, and I must tell you that it was one of the best steaks I've had in years. All in all I really enjoy the Proud Cit Saloon. Employees are nice, western appeal and style and food is good. A couple of my personal recommendations are: Steak salad - get it medium rare and definitely use the horseradish dressing even if you get another to accompany it. Bison burger also medium rare with blue cheese The French onion soup is fantastic, especially on a cold day. Not a fan of the Asian salad. There's so many chow main noodles along with crunchy chicken that's it's hard to eat without scraping up the roof of your mouth. read more
