It's a must if you're ever in Cody! (And bring your appetite!) On a recent cross-country road trip, we spent the night in Cody, WY. Dad (who is 87) was with us and we had trekked over to the Proud Cut Saloon as it was not too far from our hotel and was open. The place was packed, and we didn't have a rezzie. The staff managed to find us a table and seated us quickly even still. Our server (Holly) was fantastic! She had great recommendations and was pleasant the entire evening (even though she was juggling a full load of tables). The food was delicious - skirt steak and prime rib were cooked to perfection, and my father enjoyed the senior steak platter that included onion rings as big as his head! Visiting from out of town, our party of 4 was seated in the outdoor covered patio. The staff was running around and we realized they may have been short staffed. But when we had our server's attention she was very thorough, friendly and kind. She did a good job helping us! There were many flies at our table which made it rather unpleasant to enjoy the meal. We began with an order of onion rings which were pretty good. I had the Pilot Peak burger which was ok, another had the Index Mountain burger, she ate half and took the rest home, proclaiming it was even better the next dry! The men both ordered the Buffalo Bill Ribeye. My husband raved about his but unfortunately our friend's was inedible- it was all grizzle and fat. He didn't ask for a new one but they did tell the chef and they removed it from our bill. Very sad that the chef let that come out to a customer. Overall it was a fair experience. read more

Second time we have been here. The bison burger for the win ever time for us. Homemade chips, you have never had any better. The broccoli salad is also really good if you want to go a different route other than fries. Our waitress is from the area. She was very kind, attentive, and prompt. This restaurant was an amazing find while we were stopping in Cody. The steak could not have been more perfect. The cowboy chips were also a very good side. Our server, Holly, was also extremely friendly and helpful. I can only speak positively of the entire dinner. Ordered 12 oz prime rib medium rare, baked potato, and a salad. Our server Shelby was nice and efficient which is where anything good ended. Honestly the worst and toughest cut of meat I have ever eaten. Had grizzle throughout and for the money I would have rather had a cheeseburger. Prime rib over cooked, bake potato was hard, somewhat cold and cooked many hours earlier. Salad wasn't fresh either. Price charged for a lousy meal is crazy. We could not catch the attention of the server. We finally received our lunch and no salads. The gal delivering our food was different than our server. Horrible Service Wine ordered to be served with dinner, arrived when entrees were finished, after us asking several times when we could expect them. Finally came after one of us were finished and the other entree uneaten due to a medium rare order, served medium well. Not even close. We're told by waitress that we were simply in line for our 2 glasses of wine , as they were busy, but watched the bartender laughing and joking with people at the bar, and nobody cared. Stopped in Thursday night 1/9/2025 before an event at the Buffalo Bill Museum with no reservation, we were told to pick any seat we wanted there were about 6 customers in the bar area restaurant. Waitresses was prompt in taking drink orders I had a Ten Sleep IPA my wife had a Crown and coke waitress came back said the Coke wasn't working would Pepsi be ok my wife said yes, drinks were quickly brought to us and then we placed our order. We both had the French dip with onion rings and extra cheese (pepper Jack) food was brought out quickly and was very tasty, my only issue was they could add a bit more beef to the sandwich. We have been to CA, UT, ID, WY, and MT so far on our trip and this place gave us the very best meal yet. In fact, one of the top five meals that I have had in my life of 60+ years. It was the best French onion soup that I have ever had. The mac and cheese was such a smooth blend if cheeses and a real delight. It paired well with the pulled pork sandwich. Lunch for two on a Tuesday in late August. The cuteness of this place makes it standout among other places on the main drag in Cody. We were seated right away. Menu was diverse - salads, soup, sandwiches, burgers and full meals. We optimistically ordered the Bison burger, French Dip sandwich with upgrade to onion rings. Unfortunately the food got a slightly below average grade. Onion rings were soggy and very salty. French dip sandwich was made from processed sliced meat although the mushrooms were an added treat. I took my family here while on vacation. I definitely recommend getting reservations. We were fortunate and were able to get in. My wife and I shared the bone-in ribeye. One son ate the burger and my other son had the wings. Everyone was very pleased with the food. It was all excellent. The service was also great! read more

I am visiting Cody for business this week and one of my colleagues recommended proud cut for a great steak. I have to say I had their hand cut ribeye, and I must tell you that it was one of the best steaks I've had in years. The flavor was outstanding as they source their beef locally from the grass, fed cattle out here in Wyoming. if you're looking for amazing food and drink, this is the place to go!! My husband wanted a great steak in Wyoming and ordered the Bone-In Ribeye. We also had dinner salads, broccoli salad, onion rings, and cowboy chips. All of the food was excellent with a perfectly seasoned and cooked steak. The bar and serving staff were friendly, personal, and efficient. The decor is classic Cody, complete with buffalo. I visited the Proud Cut Saloon for the first time in 2009/2010. The last time I visited was in August 2019. This restaurant is now under different management with a different owner. Previously, the food was exceptional. Great steaks. The last time I visited, I ordered the pork chop, which is no longer on the menu, and it was fabulous--and gigantic. My friend and I went last night. Our experience was vastly different. I ordered the rainbow trout with broccoli salad and French onion soup. The soup was so watery, I really missed the rich flavor of a classic French onion soup. The onions undercooked (they should be caramelized but weren't). They had tossed a handful of store-bought salad croutons and the same flavorless shredded cheese they use on the salad (which I'll talk about in a minute). It is, hands down, the worst French onion soup I've ever had, and that includes the stuff that comes out of a can. When you buy a can of French onion soup at the grocery store, at least the broth has some flavor, unlike this soup served at once was a decent restaurant in town. I ate one spoonful of the French onion soup broth and set it aside. The server didn't seem to be paying attention. We flagged down the hostess, who took the soup away, then the manager came to our table. I explained the problems with the soup and that the server passed by several times before we flagged down the server. The manager explained that there was only one server in the entire restaurant and she was busy with a "10 top" in the back. I explained that that is a management problem. Who on earth would have only one server in an entire restaurant? Poor girl. So, I ask for a salad instead of the soup. The salad was bland, composed of chopped iceberg lettuce (bland) topped with virtually flavorless shredded white cheese (bland) and those same tiny, square, store-bought croutons (also bland). The only thing that saved it from being completely flavorless was the ranch dressing. When my entree arrived, it's a single rainbow trout filet, which looked pretty with grill marks, but I could tell it was overcooked just by looking at it. Apparently, no one thought to remember to bring the broccoli salad. I took one bite of the fish, which was, as I suspected, overcooked. I set it aside too. When the server finally came by, my friend, who'd ordered a burger, asked for a to-go box. Of course, the server asked if she could get us something else. I said "No, thank you," we'll just go to Wendy's. At least there, I know what to expect and I get what I pay for. The rainbow trout was almost $22. There was nothing on that table last night worth $22. The only reason I gave this review two stars is because the poor server really was very nice and working very hard. read more

Walked in for lunch, very nice spot! The main dining area is partly bar and partly dining, but family friendly. We were seated on the patio which is fully covered and heated. All in all I really enjoy the Proud Cit Saloon. Employees are nice, western appeal and style and food is good. A couple of my personal recommendations are: Steak salad - get it medium rare and definitely use the horseradish dressing even if you get another to accompany it. Bison burger also medium rare with blue cheese The French onion soup is fantastic, especially on a cold day. Not a fan of the Asian salad. There's so many chow main noodles along with crunchy chicken that's it's hard to eat without scraping up the roof of your mouth. read more

Never returning!! Called, asked if we could get in at either 5:00 or 5:30? Response from person on telephone was 5:15 and was asked if I was 21 years old. Not sure why? Arrived early and was told we could sit anywhere, only two tables occupied so no problem getting in at 5:00. Food was not good received my steak rare, brown on outside and bright red inside. I order it cooked to a medium temp. Waitress checked back and I explained that the steak was not cooked properly. She proceeded to remove the bowl broccoli from my plate and took the steak back to the kitchen. When the steak was returned it was well done and burnt. I complained and the waitress response was, " I am so." Husband's steak did not look or taste like a New York cut. Lacked flavor/ marbling. We should have never paid for the meals. read more

Me and my family are on a vacation in Cody we came across this saloon and the best way to put it is that it's pretty good and I loved the decor, but what I thought was ridiculous was that me and my family of four were waiting 30 minutes for a beer and a few sodas and they weren't busy at all.
