wow, some great bbq here! Unfortunately they were out of the brisket by the time we got here around 5:30pm (they are open from 11am onwards). The ribs were fantastic.... smoky, juicy and tender. We ordered the 2 meat plate and it came with 3 ribs and a heaping of pulled pork (second choice as the brisket was sold out). The pulled pork was solid, though wished it was moister. It was great with the bbq sauce, though I always like to taste a pulled pork by itself. Got a side of beans and those were darn good! I love pinto beans and they still had their shape/texture and good bite. Something addicting about good baked beans with ribs. This is a great place! We had a pretty good meal at Fat Racks BBQ, although the people who came in right after us had limited pickings because when this restaurant runs out of food, they run out of food and close. When we arrived, there was no more brisket and apparently we had the last order of ribs. We had the family meal, which was big enough to feed the four of us with leftovers. We had the pulled pork and ribs. The pork was very good and the ribs were OK. While they were meaty, the meat did not fall off the bone as we are used to having it. They have two sauces - regular barbecue or spicy barbecue and both were good on the meat. We had coleslaw and potato salad as sides and both were very tasty. I came here for lunch. You order at the counter and they call out when your order is ready. They have outdoor picnic tables and a couple indoor seats (it's smaller inside). I ordered a 3 meat (brisket, pulled pork, & ribs) plate with a side of potato salad. The plates can come with 1, 2 or 3 meats which is a great way to try a variety of what they have. All the meats were tender and had great flavor- the pulled pork was my favorite. It is a filling meal and could definitely be shared as well. read more

We definitely love our bbq and decided to give Fat Racks a try as we were passing through. We ordered a brisket sandwich, senior pulled pork sandwich and a side of beans. Being that one sandwich was a senior, both looked the same size. The brisket was tender but lacked any spice. You could taste the smoke flavoring but even adding the provided sauce it wasn't 5 stars in our book. The pulled pork was also tender and had very little flavoring as well. It too needed sauce. Speaking of sauce, the provided sauce really tasted like a common store bought one. The beans were traditional brown and bland. The restaurant was clean and the gal taking orders was cordial. It may be a good idea to spice up the sauce and allow customers to choose the hotness they desire. Or better yet, add the sauce to the meat upon placing on bread. read more

I stopped by with a few friends on my way to the airport going home from Yellowstone. I ordered the brisket with a side of potato salad. The meat was amazing! It was not dry at all and had so much flavor. The service was really good too. There's only a few tables inside, but there are tables outside as well. Driving through Wyoming on our way to Yellowstone, we passed through Cody right after lunchtime. Looking for something tasty, we passed Fat Racks BBQ and quick made a U-Turn to give it a shot. We ordered a couple of Brisket Sandwiches and an order of the Pulled Pork Nachos. Slap me and call me slow roasted, was this food good! The brisket was possibly the most tender I've ever had, served on a tasty bun with sauce on the side. I was wishing for some sliced pickles for acidity, but a girl can't have everything, can she? The pulled pork nachos had a great balance of pork, beans, and jalapeños. The cheese was definitely snack shack queso and I'm not sad about that. All in all, a tasty road trip lunch! Slim pickings - Came a bit after 6 and many of the items were already sold out. What we ended up getting was the brisket and pulled pork, along with potato salad. My brother and I stopped by for a quick snack, and ordered a brisket sandwich and pulled pork sandwich to split. Both were prepared quick and tasted really good outside while we were waiting for the outdoor show at the Irma. The brisket was very tender and came from the 'moist' part of the brisket. My one issue was that they didn't remove a large chunk of the fat...we know it's supposed to be fatty, but it's not a good texture to bite into a 'fat' sandwich. Some pickles on the side would have helped as well. The pulled pork sandwich was excellent...all meat, smoky and tender with a decent amount of pull. The BBQ sauce that we could add on the side was good. The cashier was very friendly and we learnt that the owner is originally from Texas. Next time, we will sit down and have a full meal with sides and will definitely reorder the brisket again. read more

Maybe I went at an off day/time because this was nowhere near what the reviews are saying. Brisket was tender but very dry and flavorless. Ribs were nothing special at all. They need to add more sides to the menu. Greens, Mac and cheese, baked beans and corn bread would be a very good addition. Also, some beers on tap and desserts. This was pretty good BBQ. Arrived on a Saturday and the smell was outstanding. There's minimal inside seating with plenty of seating outside. We chose outside. Ordered a 3-meat plate however they were out of potatoes and beans. The ribs were good, but not amazing, average. The brisket was good, tender and Smokey with a good stretch and the pulled pork was a little dry and not as flavorful as I expected. Overall it was good - just not outstanding. The service was good! Moist, excellent brisket. I lived for 40 years in Texas and Louisiana. This is the best brisket I have found in Wyoming. Pork very good too. Small place with not much sitting room but the bbq is too good for me to care. Service is friendly and fast. Too bad it is closed in Winter months. It closed at end September. Came here on the suggestion of the hotel staff. First let me say the food was good, nothing outstanding but good. I had the pulled pork nachos. The pulled pork was juicy and tender with a lot of it along with melted cheese, some beans, and jalapeños. There really wasn't enough beans but overall it had a good flavor. The biggest issue was it was just after 5 when we got there and they were out of almost everything. No brisket, no ribs (although they did bring some out just not done enough) the people behind us got the last of the pulled pork. So right at the start of dinner they are basically out of everything. One of our party got the turkey which he said was really good. The ribs 2 of our group got were not cooked long enough so the meat was tough with a lot of pull. They have indoor seating and outdoor picnic tables, weather was nice so we sat outside. Our order was delivered a few minutes later, the box looked great and tasted good. The brisket and bbq sauce was amazing, the beans were ok ,the beans were all over the brisket , they forgot to put a lid on the bean container and the potato salad was missing . The location on the corner of the two main streets that run through Cody, Fat Racks grabs the attention of passerby with large signage and outdoor seating. Often bustling at meal times, parking in the immediate area may be difficult to find. Fortunately, there is ample parking in the larger area, and you may want to walk a bit after you eat anyway... We arrived just before 630pm on a Monday and were slightly dismayed to learn that they were sold out of most of their meats as well as their potatoes. The remaining meats, brisket and ribs, were the first choices for most of our group, so we went ahead and ordered. The brisket sandwich was very good. The brisket was tasty if just a bit on the dry side. This may have been because we arrived relatively close to the 7pm closing time. The bbq sauce was good, with a distinctive molasses flavor. The side of potato salad was excellent, with a mustard tang and a great proportion of pureed and cubed potatoes. The serving size was modest, but with meats ordered by weight, I was still very satisfied by the end of the meal.
