Good Mexican food in Cody, WY! Very small but has plenty of tables inside. When we came on a Monday evening it was pretty calm and quiet. They don't have a big margarita selection so if you came for that you'll be disappointed. They had a lime flavored margarita which was super sweet. We had to ask for an extra shot to add. They have some beer I believe too. The food was super good! I got the beef and shrimp fajitas with corn tortillas. It was so flavorful. Everyone else loved their meals too! Complimentary (only for the first serving) chips and salsa but they charge you for your refills. Overall good food! read more

I have a theory with BBQ joints and Mexican restaurants: the dumpier it looks on the outside, the better and more authentic the food will be. El Vaquero doesn't look like much when you pull up, but their food is really good. Their service is pleasant, too. I'm pretty sure the cook and the server were the family who own the place. read more

Doesn't look like much when you drive by. In fact, you almost miss it from the road and when you do notice your flashes to "local dive". Don't be fooled, the inside is bright, clean, and full of great Mexican food. If you flash to my other reviews you'll notice I travel a bit and choose Mexican food often. As someone with a dairy allergy, Mexican restaurant food is an easy avoidance. So, when I say somewhere is a great local Mexican place - I know what I'm talking about. Full of flavor, fresh salsa, warmed homemade chips, flavorful tender meat in my burrito, homemade green sauce, and the one choice of margarita was good as well. Super fast service! Found this gem on our trip through Cody, Wyoming. We love Mexican food and this was so good I wish I could go back again, and again! From our step through the door, it felt like we were visiting friends that had us over for dinner. A true family feeling! Found this little hole in the wall while here in Cody. The delicious food was served promptly by a young man who was very efficient and friendly. This is simply the best Mexican food I've had outside of Texas yet! It reminds me so much of my mother in law's cooking. I feel incredibly fortunate to stop in for dinner during my vacation. We had a good lunch here. I was pleasantly surprised. The outside isn't much and the inside doesn't get better. I was expecting your standard Mexican faire served at all Mexican restaurants. The menu isn't as vast as some and actually has a few menu items that you don't see on usual menus. I asked our server which was better Chile Colorado or Chili Verde (I like them both) and he said to definitely get the Verde so I did and it was delicious a definite standout amongst the Chili Verde I've had elsewhere. With it came homemade tortillas. My husband had the chilaquiles something we don't see on menus back home, turns out it's sort of like a deconstructed enchilada. You had the choice between red or green sauce and our server recommended the red. My husband enjoyed this dish. I appreciated our server and his ability to give recommendations. My wife had never had Mexican Pepsi and though it was Chinese medicine but to me it was the wonderful taste of my childhood. The rice and beans were authentic and just the way I love them. We had vegetarian fajitas. I love how they made zucchini in to long noodles. It was served with corn or flour tortillas they were authentic. The fajitas were plated not served in a skillet.
