The food was excellent. I had the Arroz con pollo. It was fresh and delicious. The portion was very generous. Husband had 3 enchiladas (beef and cheese) with rice and beans. Again, portions were generous and everything was very tasty. The salsa was very good, it has a cumin kick, so some folks may not like that, but I do! They also gave us a bean dip with the complimentary chips. All was fresh and delicious. The service was lacking. Our waiter was not at all attentive, he never filled our drinks and never checked on us the entire time after we ordered. I was interested in ordering tortillas and desserts, but since he didn't return, I went without the tortillas and decided to get dessert elsewhere. I wouldn't say the service was bad, exactly, just more non-existent. The restaurant is clean and the decor is pleasing. We would certainly return for the food and just hope to get better service in the future. read more

As we continue our travels across the United States, we found ourselves in Cody, Wyoming, looking for a place to enjoy dinner. My mother--who happens to be a very tough critic when it comes to Mexican food--suggested that we try a local Mexican restaurant. After looking at several options, we decided on Rancho Chico, and we're glad we did. Parking a 29-foot RV was a bit of a challenge, but once we got settled and walked inside, we were immediately greeted by Jose Luis. Despite the restaurant being busy, he made sure our group of seven was accommodated with a large table. His hospitality set the tone for a very enjoyable evening. The atmosphere was welcoming and comfortable. The music was at just the right volume--present enough to add to the ambiance without making conversation difficult. My mother especially appreciated the interior design and decor. Shortly after being seated, we were served two baskets of lightly salted corn chips along with bean dip and a mild salsa. We requested something with a little more heat, and the staff promptly brought out a flavorful tomatillo salsa that hit the spot. As we reviewed the menu, Jose Luis proved to be extremely knowledgeable, answering every question and offering helpful recommendations. Everyone in our group ordered a different entrée along with drinks. A quick note for future visitors: the horchata is delicious, but it does not come with free refills. The restaurant also offers a full bar, although none of us ordered alcoholic beverages during this visit. The food arrived surprisingly quickly, which can sometimes raise concerns about quality, but in this case, both the presentation and flavor exceeded expectations. Every member of our party enjoyed their meal. The highlight of the evening came when my mother commented, "There's not many places that can make a good red chili sauce, and this one is good." Coming from someone with more than 70 years of experience cooking Mexican food, that's high praise. Overall, our experience at Rancho Chico was excellent. The staff was friendly, the food was flavorful, the atmosphere was inviting, and the restaurant was clean and well-maintained. The restrooms were clean, though the only downside was that there is just one restroom per gender, which could be inconvenient during busy times. On the Luis Scale, this one earns a solid 7. If you're passing through Cody and looking for a welcoming place to enjoy Mexican cuisine, Rancho Chico is definitely worth a visit. Restaurant had a nice atmosphere. It was on the main road. Chips were just ok. Bean dip that was served with the chips was OK. Neither one of us liked the salsa. Very little cilantro in it and no lime juice. Tasted like tomatoes, onions w/tomato juice and chilli pepper that was thrown together. My wife tried to order à la carte however the waiter told us that à la carte was not available after 2PM ??? Very strange... menu did not show any time restrictions regarding à la carte . Her tacos were ok.... My fajita burrito was OK. Our bill included a charge for sour cream...... which was aggravating as nothing said that there would be an extra charge for a spoonful of sour cream and the waiter didn't say anything about an extra charge for sour cream. This restaurant is just what we needed. The service is exceptional and the food is truer Mexican. I had a Chili Relleno and a Cheese Enchilada. My husband also gets something with seafood..He couldn't find exactly what he wanted , the young man asked what he wanted and they made exactly what he wanted! The portion were large, chips and salsa were perfect, chips fresh and crisp and salsa delicious. We both had a Margarita which were right on. Our waiter was attentive, restaurant was very clean. This restaurant was highly recommended by my husbands coworkers, so we decided to go check it and we were NOT disappointed at all!! From the greeting at the door to the time we walked out was impeccable customer service. Seating was quick, fresh chips, homemade salsa and beans came out within a minute after being seated. Drinks were brought out quickly also. We had our 4 grandsons with us all ordering from the kids menu and I was very impressed that they brought their food out first, and it was the right temperature for the kids to dive in right away. We didn't have to wait long after till our food came out and those plates were piping hot, and I mean piping HOT!! This is now going to be our main go to Mexican restaurant. The food was standard Mexican fare. The Margarita's were very good. Our server was "acting" as if he couldn't understand what we were saying, but when I went to the restroom, I overheard him speaking English fluently. I wouldn't have even given it another thought, until I realized what my elderly aunt had to deal with when trying to pay our bill. We paid in cash to get a 3% reduction in price, but somehow we were "short". We weren't short. Our waiter "palmed" a 20 dollar bill then claimed it wasn't there. I left early to go to the store next door, and missed out on the exchange my aunt went through. I know we had 5 20's, when I left the table. But the waiter claimed there were only 4. I believe honesty is the best policy, so I wouldn't recommend Ranchco Chico. read more

Being from Southern California, I can be a little picky about my Mexican food. This place was pretty good! How the beans and rice are is usually a pretty good indicator of the authenticity of the food. Those were both done well, as was my entree. Had the pollo à la crema. There was a little heavy on the sauce to me, but the meat and veggies were done well. Ended up cleaning my plate. The decor and music made me feel like I was back home. Good service and the food came out quickly despite the place being pretty much full during the lunch hour. Definitely would go back when I'm back in Cody again.. read more

I am not sure I have ever had Mexican food this good. I lived in New Mexico for 12 years and nothing there comes close to this place. We had the Birria tacos and the carne asada quesadilla. Both were fabulous. The restaurant is amazingly clean, the seats are very comfortable, and the general atmosphere is perfect for a Mexican restaurant in Wyoming. The service is easily the best service you'll get in a 200 mile radius. Our drinks remained full, the staff were friendly and helpful, and they are some of the nicest people in town. Your waiter will recommend churros after your meal. You must get them. Amazing. I am so glad this place exists so close to us. We will be coming here often. read more

Wife and I were craving good Mexican food and oh boy have we found our new go to here in Cody for GREAT food. I had Chili Verdi with corn tortillas, my wife had chicken fajitas with flour tortillas. Both meals were served sizzling hot from the kitchen and the wait staff was very attentive, checking back on us the appropriate amount of times. The restaurant is a bit small so if you come during a busy time expect a slight wait before being seated, decor is well done and seating is very comfortable. If you want a great meal I highly recommend you give them a try. read more

Best Mexican food in town, hands down! I usually go to Reuben & Rosa's but this is my new go to for Mexican!! Staff is amazing! Service is friendly and timely! Drinks are huge and original! Highly recommend the Long Island Ice Tea!! The shrimp fajitas are excellent (be prepared for the huge plate) the carnitas are my favorite and usually require a take home box. read more
